  • Would you be willing to pay more tax for better GP services? Public satisfaction with GP services has fallen to a record low, and a recent Attitude survey found that almost half of the public would be willing to contribute more in taxes to go towards funding the NHS.
Dr Anita Raja suggests that those who earn over £90,000 per annum should pay more tax in relation to GP services, and believes that GP partners should 'decide where the money is spent.'

We are already paying record levels of tax and your solution is....more tax? Define insanity.

Or maybe stop sending money to fight wars overseas and use it to improve schools, the NHS and the roads in this country

Tax is already far too high as it is. Almost everything is taxed. You pay more taxes when you're already getting an excellent service, not to make it work like it should. No one wants to spend more tax on something that doesn't already work properly.

The problem is that the 'Costa livin payments' have devalued the currency so the tax they're getting is worth less. If you print money and just hand it out to people for doing absolutely nothing you get inflation, inflation means the value of the currency is reduced which in turn means the value of the tax money taken by the Government is also reduced.

pay more taxes means paying more bonusses to the big guys at the top!!! the money is there, its just not going to the right place. if we're going to pay more taxes, might as well pay for a private health insurance instead.

Over the last 14 years the tax burden on the median earner has increased in real terms, and the wealth inequality has increased. Another way to say this is that the government has increased the tax take from the average earner to put in the pocket of the already wealthy.
Before the government gave our taxes to the wealthy we had an excellent NHS, so a simple solution would be to restore things to the way they were in 2010, with more of the tax take going into the NHS rather than the pockets of the wealthy.

No, sack all the useless analysts and middle managers. Disband the NHS regions and put out the supply of all the none medical items out to tender. If drug companies have to reduce cost to the NHS via NICE, then the NHS could save a fortune by combining all their requirements for other things.

Hey, let's pay more taxes to improve our roads, build reservoirs, build hospitals, pay mps more, build arms (so we can give them away), pay more out in international aid, sure we could finance another £5000000 for France, why not give india, Pakistan and china another £10mil..

Foreign aid is a small part of our overall expdienture. Even if you removed it - which would be more moronic - you couldn't even fix half the roads in the UK with that amount of money

The public should pay for every visit to the GP. Then claim back the money if they have paid taxes. That was the 2:07 GP has an incentive to see patients.

I pay $40 Aussie Dollars to see my GP in Sydney Australia. Free if I was on social security or pregnant. Never have to wait more than 24 hours for an appointment I make online. Far better than NHS. Subsidized by our public Medicare System (hospital treatment mostly free). Free at point of use for everything an anachronism.

The solution is property taxes for second properties, and requiring multi national companies to provide private health insurance for all employees. Significantly more tax revenue, lower NHS costs and benefits the working class.

  • @molsy1768

We could stop paying ludicrous contracts to private companies and reinvest that capital into the nhs?
Also, the record levels of funding is a conservative red herring. The population grows every year, and the NHS is supposed to get more funding as a result. You are quite literally dupposed to always be at "record levels" of spending.
And its a fact that the conservatives increase the nhs budget less per year than labour did.
