OMG. I've been wanting to add Augmented Reality to my technical courses but the expense of headsets made it little more than a pipe dream. Cannot wait to implement this.
Yes, this makes it possible to play with AR before the huge wave hits us and everyone starts doing it :). In fact, you can make things interactive with Aurasma as well - you can click on buttons for example to have other things come out. I will add this tutorial into my pipeline, but if you go to their desktop editor, you should be able to find it. Glad you enjoyed!
Such a crystal clear explanation, this is the first time i saw your video, within no time and no second thoughts i clicked on like and subscribed.Keep us teaching more:) Thank you.Regards,Neeru
Love the "innovation stimulator" idea - that's EXACTLY what I try to do in my videos, but I haven't thought of that wording to describe it. REally glad you liked it, Amr, and thank you so much for that thoughtful comment!
+my laptop Yes I'm always trying to find new ways to use it. :) PowerPoint is so versatile that it can be used for so many things - even together with other programs like here. So glad you liked it, and appreciate the comment!
Read some of the comments, and such positive remarks throughout. A great introduction. I'll definitely be trying to find an opportunity to use this at some point. TY. This is brilliant.
Thanks, Paul! Really glad you liked it. I was actually at a conference recently and got some great ideas for using this - many people use it for scavenger hunts and other game-based activities for meetings and onboarding training. This is also great for posters with people's photos that come to life or even yearbooks or other printed materials to turn pics into video. There is also a way to make the "aura" interactive where you can click on it and have other things come up - so lots of great possibilities!
That's fantastic! I am also waiting on hololens (and the new IOS 11) etc. - but this will help us get a few basic ideas out for AR before the really fancy stuff gets here. :)
Just FYI, HP has taken over this app and renamed it to HP Reveal since I first made the tutorial. They've taken away the online Studio shown here, so the only way you can still make the effects is through your phone (your trigger image or video can be taken from your media gallery). Also the pre-made effects like the beanstalk and scorpion I used don't really work anymore. It is still a decent free app, though my favorite alternative is now Eyejack, which does have an online studio and is available on IOS or Android. I also like DoodleLens: ruclips.net/video/sjMESMuopac/видео.html
Your channel is really amazing!! I'm an English teacher in Greece, and I' m currently taking part in a brief online seminar about the use of different apps in the classroom. One of the apps is HP reveal and there are some links to videos about its use. One of these links brought me here and I have to say that your video is really cool. I've got some questions for you if it's not too much to ask. a)How can you upload a trigger picture within the app since you are not given this option? If you press the + symbol to create a new aura, the only option you have is taking a picture. Then you can upload an overlay if you don't wish to use one from the gallery. I've already tried that but I can't find a way to upload a trigger picture. b) How can you use the completed aura in a video? How can you record it to be more specific? I would very much appreciate it if you answered my questions but, either way, I will definitely watch your videos as I constantly search for ideas that I could apply to my teaching. Thanks again. Keep up the good work!!
Great video and nice examples!! Sad that Hp Reveal is going to stop working soon... Now I am looking for any app that could do similar things, specially activate a video triggered by an image (any frame of it). If anyone know a good alternative, I would appreciate. Thanks.
Thanks so much, Karthik! Yes, it took a lot of different ideas, iterations, failures, etc. to come up with the final intro, so really glad you liked it! :)

Thanks for sharing that! I hadn't heard of that before, but now I'll know for the future. By the way, one tip about this app that I've learned is that it can have unlimited sign-ins at the same time. So you could potentially create one account for your class and then have everyone sign into it - that way, they could all share their auras without needing to follow each other. There are also other tools (zappar, layar, etc.) that I've been experimenting with so will update once I have more thoughts. Good luck with this one - as I think it's perfect for spicing up lessons.

Thanks for the question, Stephen - just seeing this now. It was actually a combination of taping the aura within Aurasma and combining that with actual video recorded on my phone. I am not a fan of Aurasma's little pulsating rings as it's looking for auras, so I had to extensively edit the video so you don't see those - for a smoother look.

Hi Pam - thanks for the comment! HP actually bought aurasma and killed some of the functions in this video. However for a quick and easy to use AR app you could check out DoodleLens.
Very clever, and nicely done! I really appreciate your work here! One question: how did you record the final video? Will Aurasma (now HP Reveal) let you do that, or did you use some other method?
I notice that your videos don't show the trigger dots and circles that the HP Reveal app shows on the screen. Any tips about how to get rid of those? There don't seem to be any options in the app to turn those off.
I'd like to know the same... .and my recording doesnt seem to start until the trigger already plays... I wanted to display in my powerpoint to show people what basic AR is. thanks
I’m trying to make an interactive yearbook. (Pictures come to life) Would HP Reveal work? I’m thinking that, I might have to wait for the actual book to be printed and then use the printed pics as the triggers then apply the overlay videos. What do you think?
Technically there is a business version of it, but it needs a custom quote so I haven't looked into it. Zappar or Layar may be easier for that - they work similarly to Aurasma but the pricing is much more transparent.
Hi there - this program is no longer available - the easiest to use alternative is EyeJack but that doesn’t support 3D models. Torch does support 3D models and more advanced effects so you may want to try that one instead.
I see how to output landscape video in 1920 x 1080 is there any way to output portrait 1080 x 1920? It scales 608 x 1080 portrait mode for some reason? Thanks. I need this function for digital signage and portrait scaling makes text unsharp.
How are you exporting the video? Is it via PPT, Aurasma, or a mirroring program (to record your phone) ? Just wanted to make sure I understand. Thanks!
I am exporting to video from PowerPoint natively. This issue is with any portrait conversion as far as I see and if you are outputting a text heavy slide at that lower rez conversion really hurts clarity of smaller text.
Got it - yes, you're right that it doesn't really export from PPT like that - it caps it at 1080. Is it possible for you to make the sign animation on the side, then export to the regular 1920 x 1080 ... then turn it 90 degrees in another video editor?
They have to “follow” your channel to see your effects. (Or sign in with your account). You can search for people to follow from the app. You can also record your screen and share that way.
The good thing about Aurasma is that it is "markerless" so there is no puzzle piece of anything that brings it to life - you just need the image. There are other tools like it that do have a small marker that helps bring it to life. There are pros / cons of both - I like markerless a little better because it looks more seamless to me.
Thank you so much for the comment ! (I’m just now catching up!). Glad it was useful. Please note that I now recommend eyejack given aurasma was discontinued.
Thank you, Mike! Really glad you liked the video, as this is a pretty innovative technique that's going to gain more and more popularity. If you are learning it now - you will be well ahead of the game!
Sorry for asking, but can I know, how you combine the video that you have made inside the power point with the one of beanstalk come out from the screen during the minute 0.43
I had to actually make two videos and then put them together in editing. I am not a fan of the pulsing circles when Aurasma does its scanning, so I wanted to make sure those were taken out so it's a cleaner look.
Great job!!❤️ really helped me❤️ I want to record my overlay with the aurasma app in my mobile but it only let me record for 5 seconds. Is there any other way to record it for the whole time periods of overlay?
I used a screen recorder called Mirroring360 to record from my phone onto my PC. You're right that you unfortunately can't really do it in the Aurasma (now called HP Reveal) app. Thanks for watching, Zoha!
I've been using the app and it looks great. But i don't know how to record more than 9 seconds of an "aura" previously created. So... knowing the restrictions of the app itself, how did you record the beginning of this video?
Hi Mauricio - good question! The front end is actually sort of simulated because you're right - you can't really record too well in teh app itself. Plus, I hate that pulsating circle thing that shows it's looking for trigger images - they provide a non-clean look to the video. Therefore, the front of the video is a regular video - then the auras are actually overlaid videos - the plant one is an actual aura - but the aura video starts when the video zooms into the "grow" image. So if you really want to do a high quality video with the aura, I would create a separate / regular video of you focusing on the trigger image, then film another video of the aura getting triggered - then put those videos together - you just have to make sure the first one ends and the next one starts at the smae point so it looks fairly seamless. Hope that makes sense and helps!
Hmm not sure! Haven’t seen that error before. They have a limited support site / dept but not sure how active they are. You might want to try a free trial of Zappar, which works in a similar way but has much better support / maintenance.
It appears your Aura/overlays are triggered and play during your video. If this is true, how is this done? I can't figure out how to record the Aura/overlay playing on my phone. I have the Aurasma app on my phone. Please advise. Thanks!
I had to use a phone screen recording app and combine that video with the aurasma app recordings (which you can do from aurasma). So it’s not one continuous video, unfortunately - took a while of recording and re-recording to get it to somewhat look like that.
Greetings. I just got turned on to this video last night when later on in the evening I learned that Aurasma was going out of business in January 2020. In your opinion is it worth it to download it this late in the game (Dec. 2020) or ....start fresh with a similar app and if so, who? Thanks for your time. Eric
Oh weird! Sorry about that. What was the email you used so we can see if there was an error? (feel free to PM me if you don't want to share via comments)
Hello Spice, Very, very interesting.I have a question: I am an artist and would like to put a trigger image in my next brochure to allow anybody who get the leaflet to put his cellphone on the (trigger) image and see the overlay video (10 seconds). But I do not understand where to upload the video as I would like the viewer of my brochure to be able to see the AR at any time, anywhere... Also, what app do the viewer need to see the trigger image? Do I have to tell them where to download this app?
Hi Philippe - good idea, though it will indeed require them to install the app (Aurasma but now called HP Reveal) and then they need to follow your channel to see the AR component. You would go to studio.aurasma.com/home (like I show in the tutorial) to get the editor where you can upload your video. Once you're done, you can write a little note under the trigger image that they need to install the HP Reveal app and then the name of your channel that needs to be followed.
Yes all augmented reality apps currently out there need the viewer to have an app to see them. They would need the aurasma app and to follow your channel. Or you could have them sign into your account vs making your own - then they’ll see it automatically without following you.
This is sooo awesome. Can't wait to try it out 😄 +PowerPointSpice how can you keep making this creative ideas. ASTONISHING!!! 👍👏😍👏👍 Quick question though, how did you saved the final outcome, the one with the trigger and the animation and everything? When I've tried the app, it just screenshot it...
+A. J. Haw Hi Aj - so glad you enjoyed this one! Yes I am always full of more ideas than I can get out there :). This is a particularly good one to help prepare you for the skills you'll need for presentations in the future - so it's great that you're trying it. Can you clarify what you mean by saving? Are you working in the app only? If you just keep clicking next etc it should finally save and then appear in your private or public auras.
PowerPoint Spice Yes, I really do enjoyed this particular video. Not that I don't like your older post, (I freaking LOVE 😍 each and every PowerPoint video you post because its so amazing 👍👏❤) this one actually stands out. This video will surely be a help for future presentations 😄 Yes, for now (just right now 😂) I'm working with the app. My question is, how did you saved the actual footage of the outcome? I made a customized trigger and overlay which works perfectly with the camera in the app however, I wanted it to save as a video instead of a screenshot only. Would it be possible to save it in mp4 form?
Wonderful that you liked this one in particular - I am trying to throw in more ideas for how to use PPT in combination with other free programs for even cooler options :). That's a VERY good question about the screen recording - here is a long answer so bear with me. I lost several days of productivity trying to figure it out with different options - though finally did it. It seems very simple BUT apparently if you have an iPhone (like I do) Apple does not want you to record your screen so does not make it easy. The fastest way to do it (though not perfect!) is to use the recorder within the Aurasma App. When your Aura animation starts playing (but not before), you will notice a little video icon on your screen - press it, and it will record a video of the animation. This way is easy, but I don't like it because even if you press the video button quickly, you lose at least 1 second of your animation - and sometimes the video cuts off before the Aura is finished playing. The way I did it for this video, which is a little bit more complicated, is I had to find a way to project my phone onto my PC - then record from there. I used a free 7-day trial of a program called Mirroring360, which works to project your phone onto a PC. If you have an iPhone and Mac, it's easier, since it's apple-to-apple. In this case, you can check out this article for how to do it with Quicktime: osxdaily.com/2016/02/15/howto-record-iphone-screen-mac-quicktime/ Hopefully that's a helpful start!
PowerPoint Spice Oh my goodness Thank You so much 😄. It really helped me and do understand it now... But there is just one tinsy problem, I'm an Android User 😂😭😢😂 I tried the Aurasma app in my phone and it seemed that it has different features unlike iOS so I guess that would be a problem however, I could try the screen recording app you've suggested. By the way I've try making my own Aura with Aurasma and PowerPoint and it worked fantastic. A simple message with ppt animation and I have to say, it does work 😄 yey. I named it "Feel Good" and it worked perfectly with the Aurasma App. I have to say thank you for your amazing tutorial 😊👍👏 Your Awesome ❤👏👍😄😃
Hi AJ again - I'm just seeing this, as RUclips stopped alerting me about new comments in this string. Did you get it to work? I looked again at the Aurasma recording instructions, and it doesn't make any distinction between IOS and Android in terms of the recording abilities - so I'd think it should be the same or at least available in some way. But the screen recording program works very well and has great ratings - it's free for a week, so if you make all your auras in advance, you can film them all in that week. Thanks so much for the thoughtful comments and great feedback!
absolutely - I met a really cool person at a conference who used this to bring medical materials to life - so a heart, for example, would start beating from a static page. Uses are mostly for advertising and bringing handouts / printed materials to life - can be used across industries.
Not fully sure I understand the question - but unfortunately the AR (and VR) market is still pretty fragmented. It would be amazing if you could just do it by changing a setting on the phone or something and doing it through your camera (without an additional app). HOwever, I haven't really noticed a change yet since HP has changed the name to HP reveal, so if you're used to using Aurasma, it should still work the same way (for now).
The only way to do this would be to make a group account and have everyone log in with that account. However, HP has bought this app and is taking away key features - I’m going to explore Torch app as an alternative.

Thanks,
can ask for link this aplication, because I was looked for it but nothing
Hp shut down this app - try eyejack!
I have a tutorial for that too if you look in my videos
hi! how to do then i whant also ather people see this in they smartphon or tablet?
They have to “follow” your channel to see your effects. (Or sign in with your account). You can search for people to follow from the app. You can also record your screen and share that way.
so will it come out printed with the little puzzle thing that brings it to life?
The good thing about Aurasma is that it is "markerless" so there is no puzzle piece of anything that brings it to life - you just need the image. There are other tools like it that do have a small marker that helps bring it to life. There are pros / cons of both - I like markerless a little better because it looks more seamless to me.
didn't I told you to SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
Hello, does the app. dosent work anymore ? or just work in some countries ?
HP bought the app and shut down. You can use the eyejack app instead.
Just wondering, does this work with Macs?
Hi! Where can I find the background music of this video? Thanks!
I got it from Epidemic Sound.
Explaination awesome
Thank you so much for the comment ! (I’m just now catching up!). Glad it was useful. Please note that I now recommend eyejack given aurasma was discontinued.
I love you video, I really appreciate your time to share your experience with everybody. Thank you very much. 😊😉
Thank you, Mike! Really glad you liked the video, as this is a pretty innovative technique that's going to gain more and more popularity. If you are learning it now - you will be well ahead of the game!
How can we increase the video quality in arloopa
What is arloopa
Sorry for asking, but can I know, how you combine the video that you have made inside the power point with the one of beanstalk come out from the screen during the minute 0.43
I had to actually make two videos and then put them together in editing. I am not a fan of the pulsing circles when Aurasma does its scanning, so I wanted to make sure those were taken out so it's a cleaner look.
i try the web but it doenst have add new aura.Is there something wrong with the website?
HP bought aurasma and then has been disabling its functionality since April, sadly - my favorite AR app now is DoodleLens, which is worth a try.
Thankyou! Will certainly try it!
HP Reveal is now no more. Can u suggest good alternetive
Sadly it is no longer available. Gonna check on others
Can this be used in Instagram story or Facebook?
You could use pics from those to augment but it’s not really otherwise naturally compatible.
Studio is not working... it says error saving *Privilege required*.. can you help!?
Hmm not sure! Haven’t seen that error before. They have a limited support site / dept but not sure how active they are. You might want to try a free trial of Zappar, which works in a similar way but has much better support / maintenance.
@@powerpointspice Thank you.. will try the other . Happy new year!
Has anyone located an app that really simply replaces HP Reveal (Aurasma)? Thanks!
Hi Leanne - eyejack is the best replacement - I have a tutorial for that too!
Greetings. I just got turned on to this video last night when later on in the evening I learned that Aurasma was going out of business in January 2020. In your opinion is it worth it to download it this late in the game (Dec. 2020) or ....start fresh with a similar app and if so, who?
Thanks for your time.
Eric
Eric Whitmore hi Eric - I would try EyeJack instead if I were you! Also has an iOS / Android app and is fairly easy to use.
www.areveryware.com/ is also another source for creating Augmented Reality. You can download their app too in the app store to see other peoples AR
Can't find Aurasma APP in playstore, pls provide link or way to download this app
It's now called HP Reveal - try that. Otherwise, the steps should be the same.
Thanks..one more query, not getting email notification from your bit.ly/PPT-Animations-Mini-Course note:-tried many times...
Does my friend's phone has to be installed with Aurasma to view ?
Yes all augmented reality apps currently out there need the viewer to have an app to see them. They would need the aurasma app and to follow your channel. Or you could have them sign into your account vs making your own - then they’ll see it automatically without following you.
yes
aurasma is not available here why do you think.. pls ..
Please use eye jack as I note in the description - I have another video that explains how - they unfortunately discontinued aurasma.
This is sooo awesome.
Can't wait to try it out 😄
+PowerPointSpice how can you keep making this creative ideas.
ASTONISHING!!! 👍👏😍👏👍
Quick question though, how did you saved the final outcome, the one with the trigger and the animation and everything?
This video will surely be a help for future presentations 😄
Yes, for now (just right now 😂) I'm working with the app.
In this case, you can check out this article for how to do it with Quicktime: osxdaily.com/2016/02/15/howto-record-iphone-screen-mac-quicktime/
Hopefully that's a helpful start!
PowerPoint Spice
Oh my goodness Thank You so much 😄.
It really helped me and do understand it now... But there is just one tinsy problem, I'm an Android User 😂😭😢😂
I tried the Aurasma app in my phone and it seemed that it has different features unlike iOS so I guess that would be a problem however, I could try the screen recording app you've suggested.
By the way I've try making my own Aura with Aurasma and PowerPoint and it worked fantastic. A simple message with ppt animation and I have to say, it does work 😄 yey. I named it "Feel Good" and it worked perfectly with the Aurasma App. I have to say thank you for your amazing tutorial
😊👍👏
Your Awesome ❤👏👍😄😃
Hi AJ again - I'm just seeing this, as RUclips stopped alerting me about new comments in this string. Did you get it to work? I looked again at the Aurasma recording instructions, and it doesn't make any distinction between IOS and Android in terms of the recording abilities - so I'd think it should be the same or at least available in some way. But the screen recording program works very well and has great ratings - it's free for a week, so if you make all your auras in advance, you can film them all in that week. Thanks so much for the thoughtful comments and great feedback!
Now that Aurasma and HPReal have shut-down, what app do you like to create augmented reality?
EyeJack is the closest I’ve found!
www.areveryware.com/ also allows you to create augmented reality
PRETTY JAZZY
Pls send me the link of this app in android
it is applicable in medical field??
absolutely - I met a really cool person at a conference who used this to bring medical materials to life - so a heart, for example, would start beating from a static page. Uses are mostly for advertising and bringing handouts / printed materials to life - can be used across industries.
First like comment and view
Haha nice - you commented before I even had a chance to refresh the video - lightning speed!
That's too funny!
i love you , thank you very much for your nice video
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Wow....super
Genial!! gracias
Thanks, Angel!
very nice...
Can I export that as an apk file?
I don't think you can export Aurasma / HP Reveal "auras" other than via video that you record of the experience.
PowerPoint Spice Yeah I know that now... You replied too early 😂😂
Haha yeah it's hard to keep up with my lightning fast response speed ;) - but I do try to get to everyone eventually. Glad you figured it out!
Hi, I'm guessing here isn't a way of creating universal AR now HP Reveal have taken over? This is hard for teachers now.
What is your aurasma account? I'd like to follow you!
Why can't we use HP Reveal now???!!!!
How can anyone view your AR videos NOT HAVING to follow you??? i.e. just install the App, run it and have it show your video.
The only way to do this would be to make a group account and have everyone log in with that account. However, HP has bought this app and is taking away key features - I’m going to explore Torch app as an alternative.
Hola, me gustan tus vídeos, y estoy aprendiendo hablar ingles para ser un buen alumno, ya que estoy aprendiendo PowerPoint para si algún día necesite emplear en el trabajo.
Muchas felicidades y ya estoy suscrito y te di mi like. Besos y abrazos desde Ecuador. A mi nombre es Mario Yanchapanta.
