If you're interested: fianchetto (Italian for 'little flank') is pronounced fianKetto (ch = K) and Pirc (a Slavic name) is pronounced PIRTS (i as in 'little') and c = TS (as in 'Srebrenica' (SrebreniTSA)).
Could be the beer but "Little flank" is just to damn cute. It's crackin' me up. (never knew that's what it meant) To be fair, I like to "little flank" my bishop between my 2 opens Pirc and English. I am so using little flank now instead of fianchetto
I'm a low rated inexperienced player, and I have to say that your style is the best I have found for learning an opening, different lines within the opening, and the main ideas of these openings. The repetition is really helpful and not annoying at all. Keep up the great work.

They are very practical and their pace is true neither too slow nor too fast your explanations are very clear and you work comprehensively and systematically. @@NMRobertRamirez could I ask if rather than castling, white moves knight to g5 threatening a pawn on f7. what is the best defence? Would you just accept exchange of pawn and rook for bishop and knight? Hope this makes sense! I often seem to end up with a black piece on g5, so move h6 with seems to weaken my defence. (Although in the case above, I usually move pawn e6, but this seems wrong too).
@@Centurion-yw5ky typically two minor pieces are better than rook and pawn. So, I usually welcome that capture on f7. Then , after the exchange and my king ends up on f7, I try to put it back to g8.
I’m brand new to chess, spent a lot of time looking for a fun opening that I could learn and just start playing without having to memorize a thousand different lines, I found this and I’ve been having some real success with it, thank you!

I am a beginner but about four days ago I used this on a long-time player and chess fanatic. I beat him and he resigned. I have been watching Robert's videos and taking classes every day from him. I also do puzzles daily. Robert is the best instructor I have found!!
You are a very good Chess teacher. I like how you explain each variations slowly with repetitions. I think it helps to sink in the lessons which are hard to do from watching videos. The ideas behind the moves along with mental queues to help position choices are all excellent ways to absorb the lessons.
You are a great teacher and thank you so much for going all the way to checkmate in your lessons. I studied the Pirc on chessable and while I won a few games I really had no plan for middle game. I love the way your focus is equally split between the main ideas and the lines. A lot of channels lack this and tend to focus too much on very specific lines that are seldom played at lower and intermediate levels. Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing more. Saludos desde Thailandia
Another great video. One thing to remember is that most of your viewers are probably less than 1500, and many in the 700-900 range. So showing what to do when the opponent is not playing theory, such as white pushing pawn on e5 with another pawn on d4, is very helpful. Novice players get caught in the Pirc/KID because white is marching down the board while we put the bishop on g7 and castle.

I'm around 1450 (bullet and blitz) trying to break that 1500 barrier. This video was still very helpful as I only play a couple of openings: Italian (fried liver if I can), Pirc against d4, Alapin against Sicilian, and Winawer or mainline against french.

Just wanted to thank you for a beautifully instructive video aimed to educate people at beginners and intermediate level. I slumped from 1500 to 1300, but by playing this consistently with black, I've gotten back to 1450. Fantastic stuff!

So after 6-8 months of having a lot of success with the Pirc, lately I've been getting beaten up on the king-side. I've been reluctant to do the Bg4 move because I didn't want to activate the white queen. Now, after reviewing this lesson again, I see the point, and I'm going to go back to this. Very clear and informative. Many thanks! Pronunciation is fair game. I never mock mispronounced words for many reasons, one being that I may be wrong. The other reason is that the person read a word but has not heard it. I admire readers! To correct courteously ( if at all) is what to aim at. Man, you made me fall in love with chess after a 10 year break from playing! I loved fianchettos, and I was yet to choose my main opening, but this is it! I bought some books, I bought a course and now I'm studying everyday! You're gonna say thank you for my feed back, I say thank you for your knowledge and dedication!! Update: after playing (against the Tomas bot 1200Elo) for some time and studying the opening (Pirc classical variation, quiet system) I beat that bot 95% of the time while I was loosing time after time before studying. To improve I analyze each game I play and see the mistakes I made, so my accuracy is usually no lower than 80%, some +60 moves games was around 95! It's not an easy opening, but it's a lot of fun to play!!!

Good morning and Thank you, I just hit 1700 following your plans on the pirc. I never had a system for black before. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
Wow, thank you so much for not just showing the beginning principles, and throwing some middle game ideas. I was always reluctant to play Nf6 because of d5, but now I know that d5 is either a strategic mistake, or just a variation after e5. I also now know what to go for in terms of an attack. I always moved my c knight outta the way to go for f5, but I always went to h5 for some reason, probably because the idea of retreating didn’t seem very appetizing, I was always afraid of getting squished if I wasn’t careful. And after d5 in a closed pawn structure, I always played c6 in hopes of putting my knight back, but now I know that is not necessary, and perhaps later on will lead to complications. I also have another idea that I been experimenting with with the Bg4 line. If I really don’t want h3 to happen before Bg4, I’ve tried playing it BEFORE castling. I’ve found a bit of success with this, but I’m only a 1000, so perhaps I didn’t win because of Bg4, 1000 territory is a very interesting one. Again, thank you, and I will definitely give some of these middle game ideas a try if I can!

I actually figured out this opening on my own . I used to call it the "fort opening" A few month later I battled my teacher and he said it was called the pirc opening.

i love how you explain opennings when i finish your videos of opening i feel ready to play them, but when i watch other videos of other channels i feel that i have to use the engine more to train and feel ready.
I am now learning the Pirc opening with black and I like it a lot. In a recent game the opponent came at me pretty early with the fried liver attack (Ng5 and Bc4). The engine just tells me to castle, trade R + P for B + N and happily continue with a slight advantage. Any ideas on what is best here?

The reason why I value your Pirc videos so much is because I always struggle to find ideas in the middle game. I actually won a few games with black using your Pirc guide against the classical white set-up. After watching your Pirc videos, I'm still waiting to face the 150 attack and the Austrian attack. Also, I'm just a 1200 in Blitz and 1400 Rapid (My current rapid rating is peak. It will go lower in a few games, I just know it.) Again thank you so much for your helpful content. Maybe you have similar videos for White openings? I currently play the London system mostly. I haven't checked your channel for white openings yet. I'm more than willing to learn a new White opening, or keep building my knowledge on the London system or any D4 opening.

@@NMRobertRamirez Yes, we have several coaches including myself that teach in the Virginia Beach Public School system. We have a couple of FIDE Masters one from Serbia and 2 Life Masters who are Also FIDE as well as USCF. We have been using Zoom and recently started having over the board at the chess club for the Adults but numbers are restricted due to the Covid-19 situation. Social Distancing Sanitation of the boards, clocks, pieces, etc. Masks are required. Hampton Roads Chess Club pays the masters pretty good hourly. Wish I was making that master pay!! I was on a gambit kick for a while because one of our players wrote a book on the Grob his name is Tom Belke. So I started playing that as Black and White as well as the Bullfrog Gambit or Gibbons Gambit. Got into a bad habit of watching youtube videos on opening traps a few minutes before walking in to OPEN rated USCF events. BAD MISTAKE BUT FUN IF YOUR NOT A PRO!! So I am getting serious again. I won the Fall championship and the Spring CLub Championship begins on the 9th of March. I bet you could make some loot here... YOU EXPLAIN WITH CLARITY!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

I am looking at this from playing Dutch and Sicilian so the pawn breaks in both KID and Perc systems bring me back to familiar positions.

@@NMRobertRamirez could I ask if rather than castling, white moves knight to g5 threatening a pawn on f7. what is the best defence? Would you just accept exchange of pawn and rook for bishop and knight? Hope this makes sense! I often seem to end up with a black piece on g5, so move h6 with seems to weaken my defence. (Although in the case above, I usually move pawn e6, but this seems wrong too).
@@Centurion-yw5ky typically two minor pieces are better than rook and pawn. So, I usually welcome that capture on f7. Then , after the exchange and my king ends up on f7, I try to put it back to g8.
I’m brand new to chess, spent a lot of time looking for a fun opening that I could learn and just start playing without having to memorize a thousand different lines, I found this and I’ve been having some real success with it, thank you!

I love the way your focus is equally split between the main ideas and the lines. A lot of channels lack this and tend to focus too much on very specific lines that are seldom played at lower and intermediate levels. Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing more. Saludos desde Thailandia

Another great video. One thing to remember is that most of your viewers are probably less than 1500, and many in the 700-900 range. So showing what to do when the opponent is not playing theory, such as white pushing pawn on e5 with another pawn on d4, is very helpful. Novice players get caught in the Pirc/KID because white is marching down the board while we put the bishop on g7 and castle.

I'm around 1450 (bullet and blitz) trying to break that 1500 barrier. This video was still very helpful as I only play a couple of openings: Italian (fried liver if I can), Pirc against d4, Alapin against Sicilian, and Winawer or mainline against french.

So after 6-8 months of having a lot of success with the Pirc, lately I've been getting beaten up on the king-side. I've been reluctant to do the Bg4 move because I didn't want to activate the white queen. Now, after reviewing this lesson again, I see the point, and I'm going to go back to this. The other reason is that the person read a word but has not heard it. I admire readers! To correct courteously ( if at all) is what to aim at. Man, you made me fall in love with chess after a 10 year break from playing! I loved fianchettos, and I was yet to choose my main opening, but this is it! I bought some books, I bought a course and now I'm studying everyday! You're gonna say thank you for my feed back, I say thank you for your knowledge and dedication!!
Update: after playing (against the Tomas bot 1200Elo) for some time and studying the opening (Pirc classical variation, quiet system) I beat that bot 95% of the time while I was loosing time after time before studying.
To improve I analyze each game I play and see the mistakes I made, so my accuracy is usually no lower than 80%, some +60 moves games was around 95!
It's not an easy opening, but it's a lot of fun to play!!!

Good morning and Thank you, I just hit 1700 following your plans on the pirc. I never had a system for black before. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
Wow, thank you so much for not just showing the beginning principles, and throwing some middle game ideas. I was always reluctant to play Nf6 because of d5, but now I know that d5 is either a strategic mistake, or just a variation after e5. I also now know what to go for in terms of an attack. I always moved my c knight outta the way to go for f5, but I always went to h5 for some reason, probably because the idea of retreating didn’t seem very appetizing, I was always afraid of getting squished if I wasn’t careful. And after d5 in a closed pawn structure, I always played c6 in hopes of putting my knight back, but now I know that is not necessary, and perhaps later on will lead to complications. I also have another idea that I been experimenting with with the Bg4 line. If I really don’t want h3 to happen before Bg4, I’ve tried playing it BEFORE castling. I’ve found a bit of success with this, but I’m only a 1000, so perhaps I didn’t win because of Bg4, 1000 territory is a very interesting one. Again, thank you, and I will definitely give some of these middle game ideas a try if I can!

i love how you explain opennings when i finish your videos of opening i feel ready to play them, but when i watch other videos of other channels i feel that i have to use the engine more to train and feel ready.
I am now learning the Pirc opening with black and I like it a lot. In a recent game the opponent came at me pretty early with the fried liver attack (Ng5 and Bc4). The engine just tells me to castle, trade R + P for B + N and happily continue with a slight advantage. Any ideas on what is best here?

I mostly play King's Indian and Pirc as black. The reason why I value your Pirc videos so much is because I always struggle to find ideas in the middle game. I actually won a few games with black using your Pirc guide against the classical white set-up.
After watching your Pirc videos, I'm still waiting to face the 150 attack and the Austrian attack.
Also, I'm just a 1200 in Blitz and 1400 Rapid (My current rapid rating is peak. It will go lower in a few games, I just know it.)

We have a couple of FIDE Masters one from Serbia and 2 Life Masters who are Also FIDE as well as USCF. We have been using Zoom and recently started having over the board at the chess club for the Adults but numbers are restricted due to the Covid-19 situation. Social Distancing Sanitation of the boards, clocks, pieces, etc. Masks are required. Hampton Roads Chess Club pays the masters pretty good hourly. Wish I was making that master pay!! I was on a gambit kick for a while because one of our players wrote a book on the Grob his name is Tom Belke. So I started playing that as Black and White as well as the Bullfrog Gambit or Gibbons Gambit. Got into a bad habit of watching youtube videos on opening traps a few minutes before walking in to OPEN rated USCF events. BAD MISTAKE BUT FUN IF YOUR NOT A PRO!! So I am getting serious again. I won the Fall championship and the Spring CLub Championship begins on the 9th of March. I bet you could make some loot here... YOU EXPLAIN WITH CLARITY!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
