  • The Frontier has been my favorite vehicle I've ever owned. It's a capable, reliable, comfortable, and affordable truck. Combined with the Topo Toppers camper, it's the best way I've ever explored and camped. So don't worry, the Frontier is not going anywhere, but you may see me driving something else around sometimes.

    A manual transmission is almost an anti-theft device these days. 😊

    I worked with a guy several years ago that had one of those. When we'd get a first big snow he would pile the bed completely full and drive it that way until it melted. It was always funny to see him drive past stuck 4x4s in the little junk two wheel drive Mazda. It barley ran but it did it for years. Yours looks like its in pretty decent shape. Enjoy!

    I owned a 92 Isuzu Pup pickup for 14 years. Probably the least good version of a Japanese basic pickup, but even so it was bomb proof, I would say the most cost effective vehicle I have ever owned. I didn’t put a huge amount of miles on it, but it was always there ready to go and do whatever I needed it for. Your choice makes perfect sense and I fully expect you will find more uses for it than you imagine at this point. One of the nice things about these vehicles, is that with basic maintenance they will run for as long as you’re willing to take care of them.

      SUPPOSEDLY Ford is going to make a bare bones work truck (no power windows/locks/seats etc) next year. Starting at $10k

    • @Scroll_Lock
      @Scroll_Lock 5 месяцев назад

      @@brianwatson3705 That was supposed to be Honda and something like that would never legally be allowed in the US. Way too many regulations here. It would be required to have a back up camera, air bags, many things that put it over $18,000 just for starters. For a small truck with wheelbase and width requirements it would have to get something like 50mpg anyways so no ICE... and now were closer to $30,000 and it would be a unibody. Basically, they already make that and it is called Ford Maverick.

    • @chublez
      @chublez 5 месяцев назад

      They do. Yall just don't look at or buy them cause you end up deciding that the 4 doors would be nice. Then the crying about the depreciated value of a dollar starts like that's the car manufacturers fault. Basic trucks today smash on basic trucks from 40 years ago dollar for dollar adjusted in every metric.

    Reminds me of my dad’s 1988 Nissan Hardbody 4x2 manual; transmission, steering, windows and locks. My dad’s truck had a topper like that too and we had carpet scraps and large pillows in the back for padding our surfboards. It was a 4 cylinder and fuel injected. Loved that truck Dad traded it away for a Dodge Dakota 4x2 Manual 4-cyl in a turquoise color and ended up with a crappy truck. He then bought a Cousin’s black 1995.5 Tacoma 4x4 V6 manual; transmission, windows and locks Xtra cab. I just bought the same Tacoma as Dad’s 1995 just the 3rd Gen TRD OR Access Cab (not manual 😢) 27 January 2024. It is a truck I plan on keeping forever.

      I have always been a fan of these mini trucks, I bought a 1979 Chevy Luv (Isuzu).. Traded it in on a brand new 1986 Nissan Hardbody extra cab 4X4. V6... That truck was so far ahead of its time back then. I put 285,000 miles on it. The only reason its still not on the HWY today is a not at fault accident.

    Love a good beater to get around in. I had a 1984 Mazda B2000 (Automatic) that had a 7' bed!! I put a cap on it and bought one of carpeted 'kits' for the back and my just married wife and I drove all over the country with it before shipping it to Europe for farm use and transporting my woodworking projects. This was back in 1993 and pickup trucks were barely a twinkle in European eyes. Sold it to a friend before moving back and...it's still running today!

    I bought a new 1982 Mazda B2000 back in the day. Manual steering, 5-speed manual and no A/C. It was a great truck and it could haul way more than it's capacity suggested. I had it for about six years until I sold it in order to purchase a new 1987 Isuzu Trooper. You made a great choice, Donald.

    My first new vehicle was a base 1987 Mazda B2000 (essentially what you have found). I put +210K miles on that truck over 15 years - crossing the country multiple times, countless moves, and not to mention the endless "burnouts" leaving stop lights in my youth. You chose very well.

    Respect on that choice, will be cool to see if this becomes a cool weekender OV light build. A Idaho YT channel made a short series of videos about testing new rigs, because he wanted to "do something different," but then he bought a new version of his jeep. I dropped that follow like old laundry. But this is something different, so hats to you sir, will be keeping an eye on this.
