    Studio display is identical to the display on the iMac 5k 27 2020 not the 2019 model, since apple uses a new connector and video chip controller inside the iMac 27 2020 (Powered by Apple T2 Chip).

    Excellent comparison, thank you. I have the iMac 27 inch 2020 (mid-range) model. I don’t mind its large bezels; it was the only way Apple could have the very thin sides. I would prefer the height of the Studio Display. For me, as the iMac cannot of course be lowered, my line of sight has it that my eyes are not looking at the top of the display horizontally (or slightly lower), as is recommended. A good quality ergonomic seat cushion does however help. As for the iMac’s chin, I don’t mind that either given that the computer is built in. Finally, I have 128 gigabytes of (3rd party) RAM installed, which means I’ll be hanging onto my machine for hopefully a long time yet. Too expensive not to.

It seems the Studio display is an expensive downgrade over the iMac 27 5K - I'll keep using my iMac for now, sorry to Apple: the Studio is not good enough for the money (you need to add the price of a MacStudio, Mini or MacBook to the display). I'd love to have a new setup, but I'm not in a hurry.

      I just pulled the trigger on a new 2020 27" iMac in August. I got the highest end model with the highest end graphics card for graphic design and 3D modeling and rendering. Now I'm think I'm regretting not waiting. But then at the time I had no idea when or what was going to be the next high end machine. With that being said, it sounds like you're pretty content with still having a 27" iMac. My concern is what the lifespan of my machine will be now that Apple has transitioned from Intel to M1 Silicon. How long do you think Apple will continue to support my hardware configuration for OS updates? Did I make a mistake by not waiting? I know hindsight is 20/20.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the awesome review. Regarding sound differences, hard to tell from the video, but seemed the iMac had a more lo-fi sound with more pronounced midrange - more of a triangular shaped EQ, in other words. And the Studio had little more bass, with less of a mid hump. Wondering if this might sound accurate as far as the EQ character?

    Current iMAC
    I am using version 5k (2020.12.22). I'm debating whether to buy a Studio Display 5K or LG 27MD5KL as a secondary monitor. Even though it is in Korea, the LG 27md5kl is not in stock. I was thinking about buying the LG 40WP95C, but since it has 140PPI, I'm worried because I think it will feel very different from the iMac 5k. If I buy a studio display, I plan to buy a Vesa mount for the nano texture, but I don't think it will be easy due to inventory issues. As many monitors are out of stock at the end of the year, I am concerned that a new model will be released in January next year.
    What monitor is best next to an iMac?
    I use Final Cut and Photoshop a lot and like a neat desk, so the studio display looks good, but I think the price is too expensive compared to the performance.

    Sadly this monitor below expectations so much ;
    1) 27 inch : Even Apple Cinema Display launched up to 30 inch too in spite of launched years ago that it has to be minimum 32 inch.
    2) 5k : It could be 6k same as Apple XDR but they almost imac 5k screen resolution.
    3) 1.600 USD : Most of the users will not be willing to buy at this price just a monitor while still out there same size and featured ones much cheaper.

    • @chidorirasenganz
      @chidorirasenganz 2 года назад +2

      Increasing the size and resolution would drive up the price.
      This isn't a consumer display. It's a prosumer display hence why it was launched with the mac studio and comes with reference modes

    • @ErenTopcu
      @ErenTopcu 2 года назад

      @@chidorirasenganz I do not think that it is not prosumer. Apple launch a new monitor bigger screen and better resolution and much more reasonable price. That's all.

    • @chidorirasenganz
      @chidorirasenganz 2 года назад +2

      @@ErenTopcu It’s prosumer as I stated before because it carries the “Studio” branding which is in-between Pro and consumer lines. It’s a larger and higher quality screen than the 24in iMac and has reference modes. It’s not the Pro display replacement because it’s not a Pro product. It’s a step below.
      Depending on the reception of the Studio display, I could see a lower cost version with the panel from the 24in iMac. But that will likely be dimmer, lack the reference modes, lack stand options and have slower ports (5 gbs vs 10 gbs)

    • @ErenTopcu
      @ErenTopcu 2 года назад +1

      @@chidorirasenganz I evaluate it as standalone monitor and it is small , expensive and not having enough features. It is extremely wrong to compare new imac 24 inch. I hope Apple launches 32 / 6k imac and compensate this shit imac 5k screen.

    • @chidorirasenganz
      @chidorirasenganz 2 года назад

      @@ErenTopcu What’s shit about this monitor/panel? The only available comparable model is the LG which is worse in every way except price.
      It’s not small in size and the resolution can also allow for smaller elements on screen to still be readable vs a lower res screen like 4k.
      A Pro display size iMac isn’t happening. Pro display replacement yes but not another iMac.
      I compared the Studio Display to the 24in because one: people complain you can get a whole computer for less (ignoring that the base model has 2 less ports) and two: a cheaper consumer display would use the 24in panel and I noted the drawbacks it would have compared to the Studio

  • @digitalmarketinghumans

    I am still deciding on whether to get (in this order) the Studio Display vs iMac M1 vs iMac 2020 5k.
    What do you guys think? They all look great. I checked them all out at Best Buy and all side by side and the only thing I noticed (display wise) was the size more or less...but then again, its like with the iMac M1, you get the newer chip but it's 24" vs iMac 2020 5k but also the studio display is a bit better than both of them but it's a monitor by itself and isn't like an all in one. This makes the decision tough seeing which one is best. Your thoughts?
    PS: I do have a Macbook Pro but I've always a bigger screen, whether it's an iMac or even using Apple's monitor(studio display).

    • @HighTechCheck
      @HighTechCheck  2 года назад +2

      What do you use your Mac for? For me video editing is a big deal and I need the best chip possible. The monitor can always be switched out and if it’s good enough for me to see what I’m editing, that will usually suffice but if you plan on using your Mac for video editing, I wouldn’t suggest getting an older model. I would try getting the best chip possible because that’s one thing that you can’t really switch out.

      @@bleds I ended up buying both 😂 I have the 2020 iMac i7 5700xt with 72gb ram and the studio display that hooks up to my M1 Pro MBP 14". I use them both. To be honest, if it's for that price and you don't have the M1 MBP or mac studio or mini, I would say the iMac is a great deal. Make sure to upgrade ram to 16gb or above.
      This one is a tricky one since it depends on your usage. If it's basic browsing and light gaming or light editing or 'creative' work, then iMac is a great deal since you're getting the whole package + it's a great price as of now. These are not obsolete by any means.
      If you already have a M1 type computer, I would just go studio display. Both are great options although I can see my M1 lasting longer. I plan on keeping these machines for at least 5 years. By that time, who knows, M6 or M7 will be out? lol
      Also just a heads up, the iMac does heat up and the fans are louder than I expected. Think of hearing a small vacuum cleaner or something similar or an air filter put on medium to high setting. If you don't mind it, then go for the iMac.
