The crown vic... The car you can hear from 10 blocks away. The car that can be seen 5 miles away. The car that every non car person thought was fast. The car that has the most unique and satisfying door slam noise. I love the crown vic and will miss it.
Don't forget about the first gear transmission whine under light acceleration, unmistakable. I have an 06 P71 hot rod in the making and love the sound of that transmission, reminds me of the sounds of the cars in the 70's when I was a kid.
Fastec Well stripped race cars are dumb boy toys lol. I want Air power everything Dvd the works. Ill take a turbo diesel truck loaded 4x4 over a dumb sports/racing pos thats gonna break anyqay.
The panther platform was the pinnicle of automotive body on frame design engineering. Its a shame they ceased production, and most of the remaining ones are being driven into the ground, or destroyed. This guys CV is exactly what Ive been preaching for years. A few simple mods, and youve got yourself a hell of a hot rod/daily driver thats dead nuts reliable, fast, safe, and practical. Its the best car ever produced!!!!
Exactly Lucas, that’s why we’re watching this channel lol There’s still RCR, MCM, and if you’re lucky Matt’s old stuff at Garage419 to watch while this craze burns out
We used to refurbish CV's at a shop I worked a while ago. They were fun on back roads, you could go way faster than it should be possible on bumpy farm roads. Been thinking about getting one for years....
ICYMI... Matt isn't filming new One Takes... He's uploading the last 40 or so he has, and then One Takes is done... he posted a video about it a while ago.
It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say? Is it the new Bluesmobile or what?
I used my 2009 cv as a GrubHub delivery car. 8-10 hour days driving around a pothole infested city was no problem. 1,000 miles a week between starting my lawn business (used my cv to tow my landscape trailer) and GrubHub. Well over 500k miles on factory engine. Great vehicle I regret selling it. Edit 14 mpg city but 22-24mpg on back roads
Wouldn't the crummy fuel economy kind of be a drag for that? Edit: And I say that as someone who not only owned, but also quite liked, a Crown Vic. It was a great car, but I have a hard time imagining how it could be profitable for delivering pizzas.
Dammit. I thought you were kidding. Just saw the video from Thanksgiving about it. Ah well, I can understand I suppose. But man, what a cool concept the One Take Platform has been. 10 minute videos feature real cars from all over the country that people daily drive. Some were awesome. Some were piles of shit. But each one was interesting.
2 Years later after this, ended up buying myself my own Crown Vic Police Interceptor and I love it to pieces! Might have to take a few notes from this guy on how to do mine.
Fun! I just watched the recent vid of Zac driving this car again after the manual swap... and couldn't resist rewatching this one. I recently bought a cream puff of a low mileage 1993 Lincoln Town Car. I probably wont do anything to it, but its fun to think about!
Panther platform! I know they're everywhere and not all that fast, but god I love those old boats. I used to have a Grand Marquis that was the definition of a shitpile, and driving around a car that weighed 5000 pounds or so with me in it on shot suspension (including the SLS, which had a habit of raising the ass end of the car two inches around long left turns) with bad breaks taught me a *lot* about how weight transfer and grip play together.
This one is fun. And you can hardly find a car that's cheaper to find parts for especially for things like crash repair. 3700 pounds is impressive and there's way more power to be found with bolt ones or a motor swap to a 4 valve.
@@JaxRhapsody he can probably get some stainlessworks headers for a Marauder and modify them to fit. They just need to persuaded in place to clear the steering shaft.
+1. .. Too Funny. .. A buddy uses my Dad's (deceased) ole Mercury Marquis 4.6 with trailer package for a daily 100mi commute from Chester, NY area to Fort Lee, NJ and back. .. Components added were 17"x8" Cop steel wheels w/Michelins, Bilsteins, Hawk pads, uprated sway bars/bushings F&R and last but not least a killer stereo to round things out. .. The perfect commuter sled. .. Dad would be proud . . . .
03+ crowns are such a great platform to play around with. Miss mine but it was a “sandy” car and the floor blew out one day...fun times...shoulda kept the frame and tossed a tbucket on it. Would love to see a p71 running a coyote and 6 speed auto.
SkuzzyJ sold mine so cheap it kills me, should have ratted it out in the meantime and then did the body swap. Mine already had a tune on the tranny, some, basic exhaust, 2015 mustang wheels and was getting upgraded rear control arms next.
Nicholas Arceri Ford absolutely should have kept the panther platform.Do some improvements to the chassis, throw in a coyote and the 6 speed auto,I promise that would sell far better than the current police interceptor.I've seen very few of the Taurus based P.I,it's mostly Tahoes and Chargers around here.
Love my 06 P71, it is very practical. And quite fun, though it is not the handling rig his is. Mine is lowered an inch with Eaton springs, Motorcraft cop shocks and Addco anti sway bars. I also made rear control arms and Watts link arms with Heim joint ends for the rear, made a HUGE difference in the handling. He is going to really have fun with some more power. I have the same throttle body mods with Comp Cams XE262AH cams, some head work and 3.90 gears, and it is a blast to drive.
This Crown Victoria is beautiful looking and sounds lovely! It also seems like it handles really well too. I recently bought a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria LX(normal LX not the sport nor the P71) and am hoping that the model I have can be modded is similar ways to improve handling.
I dunno if I'd be willing to get rid of my interior or seam weld my crown vic, but this definitely shows how much some suspension mods and good tires helps.
Typically patrol cars have vinyl rear seats, so they're easy to clean. Also the entire backseat wieghs less than one of the front seats. The front of the car is what really needs lightened up with a 52/43 bias. SOMEBODY need make a cf hood.
I remember seeing this years back on the CarThrottle website. As the only other member from ventura county on CT i found it pretty cool. I have seen you drive around Ventura a couple times.

My 93 is similar in that it's a momentum beast. It could use the rear axle suspension upgrades though. Hawk HPS pads on mine and give it good stopping power. I did leave in the interior though, because LX. I only have 3.55 rear gears though so I'm not revving as high on the highway and I can run Texas highway traffic (80+) all day with no issues. Mine does have the newer engine swapped in from an 03 Towny too with Magnaflow from the manifolds back. It sounds nice and has great seat dyno. The e-fan mod also helped the seat dyno. Mine dyno'd at 230hp as well with 274ft-lbs.
jh77sly 230rwhp haha. I know that the torque isn't bad, but my n/a V6 dynoed at 291whp... So glad ford is finally competitive with their engines. I had a 99 4.6 GT, too. That thing had no top end, especially compared to my G35 or G37..
I know... I wish I could swap a coyote into mine... but those aren't quite as easy to find in yards yet... and even when you do, they don't wanna sell them for the same price as a SBF or SBC. For now though... it's nice enough and will tow 5000 pounds (with weight distributing hitch) without issue if I need it to. Yeah... I added some of the cooling mods to mine. F150 dual core radiator, large plate trans cooler, e-fan. It does not overheat even pulling 2500# at 75+mph. Doesn't even break a sweat. Trans temp stays at about 125 and coolant temp is the same as when I'm not towing anything.
I have an AFE stage 1 intake already... but the stock 2003 Lincoln Town Car TB. I wouldn't get the CVPI TB, I'd get the ADTR one. I would also need a larger zip tube. I do have a tune for the setup as it was with a mechanical fan. I do need to get it retuned though.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that a Crown Vic in good condition can make a great track car. Its handling is very similar to a mustang, and is not all that heavy for a four door, just around 4000, and wouldn't be hard to shed some weight either. It's one of the last cars with a leather couch for a seat and a big steering wheel which make it feel like a boat. With good racing seats and wheel, combined with good tires I would not be surprised someone made a fun car out of one.
Best kept secret for a family car is 2003 and newer Panther platform cars. Safe, durable, ez maintenance.. basically a lifetime car in non-rust belt areas. Even if you drive 50,000 miles a year a new Panther would last over 10 years before engine overhaul. Transmission and front end somewhere around 250-300k in taxi applications from my fleet experience. Literally best sedan ever built, ever.
Years ago Kenny Bell had some DOHC 4.6's swapped Vic's he used for his school cars, even before Ford brought out the Marauder. I'd love to Coyote swap one someday.
Just found this video, was wondering if I could get a list of what he did to this crown vic. I have a 03 P71. Would love to upgrade it, but sometimes it is hard to find things for them. Any info I could get would be awesome!! Thanks in advance!!
It`s because you want to look like a cop It`s because you want to look like a cop It`s because you want to look like a cop It`s because you want to look like a cop!!!
One of the few things Mr. R was wrong about. Who can say no to cheap body on frame v8 rear wheel drive? Not every one out there in an old fleet panther is a whacker.
The crown vic... The car you can hear from 10 blocks away. The car that can be seen 5 miles away. The car that every non car person thought was fast. The car that has the most unique and satisfying door slam noise. I love the crown vic and will miss it.
CaideN it does indeed have a unique intake and door slam noise.
Don't forget about the first gear transmission whine under light acceleration, unmistakable. I have an 06 P71 hot rod in the making and love the sound of that transmission, reminds me of the sounds of the cars in the 70's when I was a kid.

Spot on. "The car that every non car person thought was fast" - truest shit. lol I am that guy! But I fuckin love my crown vic.
It has passing power and sounds fast so people are tricked into thinking they are
I like when the not so common cars are shown
The Crown Vic was a staple Cop and Taxi car for over 20 years. Its possibly the most recignized and common car in tge whole of NA.
leanlifter1 But it's an uncommon car to be customized like this. Few are built to handle and even fewer are built for autocross.
Fastec A good driver behind the wheel of a P71can handle.

Nope. Full tank of gas and with all my shit in it, it tipped the scales at a bit under 4800 pounds at the truck stop I used to work at.

Michael Schneider My Volvo XC70 is the best hiway crusier ... bet its faster as well.
Michael Schneider haha. I'm from Circleville, right outside of Middletown. I'll be in Chester, this afternoon. Small world.
Why not move closer?
Yeah and my cayenne beats the shit out of your volvo, what's your point?
Lends much credence to the concept of the Crown Vic being a four-door Mustang.
Mista Butterworth you're fucking avatar dude!!! 😂
Ron 😂😂
Appreciate you and your content Matt.
Somebody at a track day I went to had a flat-out Crown Vic race car they used for endurance racing. Pretty cool stuff

Love the fact that it still has the column shifter.
These Crown Vics are cool cars. Would love to have one.
Cool vid guys 👍

Peter Mitchell true. Someone with a modified 94-96 Impala could come to the show. Like this guy ruclips.net/video/_lJHBujAEdQ/видео.html

So there's a 92-7 Aerovic running around europe somewhere, cool

Inexpensive cars made by non-wealthy enthusiasts are the best One Takes!
This is actually a pretty cool build.
0:20 - is the cameraman skipping as he circles the car?
I have to give props, very nice build :)
What mustang suspension parts fit the crown vice? I was unaware of this.

Let’s do a Marauder now....
You can easily turn the front end of the Crown Vic and make it look like a legit Mercury Marauder.

coyote or LS & tr6060 would make this car insane, granted, a coyote or LS & TR6060 would make almost any car insane.
Do another one take with the manual swap!!
Wow the quality actually looks good finally
Just bought an 02 dakota R/T and hopefully by summer ill have modified to my needs and for you to test if interested.
I guarantee he'll never have the same smile on his face talking about watches.
great addition. this old Pontiac guy loves his interceptor
Just found this video, was wondering if I could get a list of what he did to this crown vic. I have a 03 P71. Would love to upgrade it, but sometimes it is hard to find things for them. Any info I could get would be awesome!! Thanks in advance!!
Is there a way to contact Austin. I'd like to know if it is possible to fit 295/40/18 on those rims and it fit. Is that why he is running 275's?
Love these old Crown Vics

One of the few things Mr. R was wrong about. Who can say no to cheap body on frame v8 rear wheel drive? Not every one out there in an old fleet panther is a whacker.
I don’t think anyone is advocating saying no, just admitting that’s all part of the fun
Everything I've always wanted to do to my Interceptor.
