- Do you have a 2006-2009 Chevy Equinox and lost power steering and have a service Stabilitrac message after jump starting a vehicle? You may have a blown mega fuse. Watch this video for more information.
Thank you so much for this video! I had this problem and the local dealership quoted me $1300 to fix it. I found this video and replaced the fuse- the problem is resolved! This video seriously just saved me hundreds of dollars.
Praise God!! Your video is a life/money saver. The dealer wanted $1198 to fix it, instead I got the $10 part and did it myself. I have replaced almost everything from leaf springs to engines, of course those were in older cars that you could actually work on. This dang conspiracy they have going so you can't even change your own oil anymore is sick. We need more people like you who are willing to teach us how we can do it ourselves again. You are a blessing! Me, my 08 equinox and my pocketbook thank you from the bottom of our heart! I pray you have great success teaching and fixing.
My Daughter just had this happen to her! I went bought the fuse and replaced it when disconnecting the battery cable on the negative side I saw 👀 that the cable post were loosen so all in all man you just saved me a lot of money 💰 I really appreciate your help 🙏!!!

This is great, thank you. Just what was needed to help a friend. Suggestion: Before you reinstall the battery cover, take 15 seconds and check the connections with your test light to confirm the new fuse!
Great point. I just changed mine and it still doesn’t work, I guess the fuse was defective or it was blown again.

Thank you! I have a 2011 Equinox and the battery was dead after completing a job. The customer said that he could jump it for me and when he did, he blew the fuse to the power steering. The warning light came on and the steering wheel went tight to non drive-able. We had to had a tow truck to bring us home tonight. I immediately got online to see if I was correct thinking the the fuse had blown. I read in the manual that the power steering was electric and did not have fluid. I was relieved to see that I was not the only one this had happened too! The bad news is finding out that I am going to have to wait for that part from the dealership!

@@charlesburns9675 When mine was blown due to someone not knowing what they were doing to jump-start it due to a bad battery (besides, they were drunk) I had to order a new Mega Fuse from Chevrolet. I don't remember how much it was, but back 5 years ago, it was not that much. The mechanic up the street came to my house and installed it. He said the battery was no good, so he put in a new one after taking it back to his shop. I think between the Mega Fuse and the (expensive battery he put in, it cost me right at $200 and I feel it to be fair. Good luck! I still have my Equinox with only 85,000 miles on it and never any major issues.

AAA came to jump my car... ) dead battery ) I told him that the battery cover was off... he said " it didnt matter " so he used the prong to the fuse box...i get in it to drive and poof no power steering.... looked at your video changed the mega fuse.. and bam.. it works.. thanks lo
I changed that Mega fuse in my 08 Equinox and it fixed my power steering issue. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
These 80 amp mega fuses are sold now at Advanced Auto for about $4.00... My wife's Equinox is having the problem and I'm going to get this fuse to see if it corrects the power steering problem... Thanks for the advice 'The Car Doctor'!

Dead on Car Doc. After an attempt to jump a buddy's car it zapped my power steering. I watched your video and went and bought the Mega fuse. I installed it and power steering was restored immediately. Great Job Car Doc!

I blew that fuse while on vacation. No local shops had the fuse, had to go to a dealership, thankfully the fuse was around $12. And they allowed me to replace it right there at the dealership.

SOLVED : My problem was the battery (voltage issue) not supplying enough power to the electric motor under the driver's side dash (on the steering column).
I jump started the car 2-3 times within a month, because it was not in use and that "confused" the main computer.
1- I unplugged the battery (negative pole) more than 5 minutes to reset the computer
2- i unplugged the MAIN power cable plug ON the motor itself (under the dash) and re-plugged it
3- Re-plugged the battery and drove 1 whole day without having any issues
I tested the voltage on the battery and it went down from 12.6 to under 9 !
Conclusion : The problem was the BATTERY, and NOT the power steering motor, nor the MEGA fuse

I gave someone a jumpstart before but this never happened. I did find the battery so this wont happen again.
I hear that it can happen even if the regular terminal contacts are used.
really true, i have a 2010 and i followed every step and it worked.
one thing this fuses are hard to find. autozone and any other do not have them, online only or dealer.

Good video . You can get the fuse online too , but for twice what GM wants for it. Imagine that the dealer is cheaper.
wtbm123 Yes I didn't check other sources, just local. My parts guy at the dealership knew exactly what happened. I thought they had hooked up the cables backwards but I don't think you even have to do that to blow this fuse.
I jumped my sisters 4runner and my damn power steering goes out. Makes perfect sense, i hate all this electrical bullshit give me a carbureted chevy any day
This fix worked for me. I replaced the fuse. ordered it on amazon. No problem. the continuity worked on both fuses, but when I replaced it with the new one power steering came back instantly.
That's interesting, I'm having an intermittent issue. It's worth a shot in my book. Although I don't understand the continuity thing. I even jumped the fuse and nothing. It seems after a set amount of time or me just unplugging everything, mine comes back.

+The Car Doctor Well just got back from a relative who's been helping me try and figure out this stabilitrack and ABS light. Unfortunately this wasn't it, so after this we've eliminated the fuse, egr valve, plug and wires, and wheel alignment. Not much left we're guessing a speed sensor but have no way or idea how to check so I may end up at a local mechanics asking if someone can test all of mine. Wow what a journey. ...
Any powertrain code will cause those lights to come on. You'll need to pull the codes to see where to go next. Any auto parts stores in your area that do that?
+The Car Doctor I should probably start from the beginning a year ago out of nowhere I had a the check engine light come on days later the stabilitrack and abs lights went on. I got the codes read then and it was C0561 which I was told was most likely the egr valve. So I replace it and the check engine light went off but the Stabilitrack and abs remained. With no issues I kind of let them go then 5 months later the check engine returned followed by a really rough running motor. Which turned out to be a bad plug and wire. So did a tune up again it cleared the check engine but not the other two.
So to sum up new egr valve, tune up , new brakes pads and rotors all around tested the mega fuse which you showed here and also tried clearing by removing battery cable. Well that's where I'm at again there doesn't seem to be anything mechanical wrong besides some quirky moments with the brakes on odd inclined hills. How's that for a headache? sorry I had to vent lol..................Edit #1 I forgot tomorrow I'm going to get it read again to see what it shows, maybe I'll get lucky lol.
Well you'll need to pull all the codes first. Yes the EGR is a common issue. I have another video for that. But it sounds like you could have a fault in the traction control module, a BCM issue or even a wiring related problem. Pull all the codes from ABS, BCM and PCM and let us know what you find.

No wonder I can't find an 80 amp fuse anywhere, by the amount of comments in this video lol. Daughter's 07 Torrent was jumped and they drive it home from four hours away, man handling that steering. Trying a 100 amp in a few minutes.

just to let you know I got back to the shop this morning and everything worked. I did check the 80 amp fuse and the 2 amp in the BCM . both good. guess it just needed time to think about it. lol. now I got a p0411. on a cold start the air injection pump comes on. Didn't do that before the swap.
Check all your wiring to be sure. Were any of the AIS system parts on the replacement engine (junk yard) or was it a reman long block deal? Just wondering if maybe water got into a valve and cause the AIR fault
I think same thing. Yes junkyard motor. I changed the valve today. Is the air pump commanded on when it's a cold start? I don't remember it doing that when I was looking for the hidden water leak. Gonna see if CEL light comes back in the morning. Will let you know. Thanks for your input..

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for having this video up - this was my exact problem and I was able to repair without having to go to the dealership. The three local auto shops didn't have it in stock, apparently not a common request and had to order the mega fuse - 80 amp mega fuse for location 63 for the EPS slot to help them out - it didn't populate in the fuses available for my 2007 in their system.
So my GMC Terrain 2017 same thing happen after a jump start , dealership did have the fuse in stock , so I got one at Napa auto parts and worked for me. Thanks
I have this problem with my 2008 Equinox and was wondering if I didn’t replace the fuse would my car still be ok? The power steering works fine, it’s just that the stabilising light comes on sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t.
I took it to the closest Chevy dealer in my town snd they said it would cost around $600 to fix it and if I didn’t the car would break down and leave me stranded They said all this without looking under the hood or checking anything. I’m a 69 year old retired woman but I knew enough to know they were lying to me. Hence I looked on RUclips and found your video. It looks simple enough to fix but I don’t have any tools or know anyone willing to help me out. Sad how people try to take advantage of elderly people. 😢😢😢
The beginning of this video was pretty trippy
I'm having an intermittent issue, checked all wiring and unplugged and reseat all connectors then almost after a set period of time, it just starts working again. It doesn't feel right at low speed, I'm guessing a sensor is wonky? Checked the motor outside the vehicle, it works. The Workshop Manual relies on dealer scan tool to scan the BCM and just checking connections and see if anything is binding. So not much help there either.

The lights came on after replacing the spring clock. I do not know how one relates to the other one. You think I burn the fuse while I was changing the spring clock??

This happened to me 2 days after replacing front axels and control arm but i had the fuse checked and it was good.I couldn't find the 80 amp so i tried a 100 amp but nothing changed and i had them check the 80 and it was good.
I got a 2009 Pontiac torrent and my make is different. I dont see no fuse and the box does show it has one on that spot EPS. Whats up?

jumped 07 equinox no power steering service stabilitrak and service theft deterrent message appeared. I was able to clear service theft deterrent after finding a video and then I found this video so I ordered the fuse from Amazon because no local parts stores had it and it just got here. I am about to go change it and will let you know if it works!

We jumped my sons toyota and then the next day when I went to start the Equinox the dashlights started flashing and the traction control light came on. The car started but the dash was going crazy and loss of power steering happen...would this mega fuse be the cause of all this going on ???

Hi Car Doc! the power assisted steering in our 2008 Equinox has gone out but slowly? Not after a jumper cable incident? Can the mega fuse go bad slowly or do you think I have another problem?
just replaced the bad battery, in my 2009 Torrent, started right up, and stays running but when I push down on the gas I get nothing, shift to drive nothing, gauges go haywire, and show all kinds of stuff, stabilitrac, loss power, service engine, would the mega fuse be the problem.
My daughter has a 2006 Equinox and no power steering. Her vehicle does not have the fuse (at least not in this location). Help?

+Nancy Weidner There is liability for me as a mechanic. If I say its safe to drive and a loss of steering assist results in an accident then your insurance company will likely sue the crap out of me. If the problem happened immediately following a jump start then the fuse is the likely issue.

I replaced the fuse. Still have no power steering. I have checked all the fuses and made sure there were no detached or frayed wires under the dash. Still no power steering. Any ideas?
Service indicator still saying there is a power steering issues and the wheel feels a little better but it's still tight.🤷🏾♂️
