The "gap" between the Bug type and the rest of them is not necessarilly the fault of the Bug type itself, it's more of a Bug pokemon issue. They all have BSTs at or below 500, no great abilities or exceptional moves. On paper Bug resists Ground, at least.

BTW, Psychic is the light type. Or rather radiation type:
      - All the cosmic pokemon are Psychic types
      - Unowns, which are believed to be inspired by Hiroshima victims, are Psychic types
      - Mewtwo, which was partially based on nuclear weapons, is a Psychic type.

Sound type is not gonna be a thing simply because sound is a move category. It's a completely separate thing, like powder moves, moves, contact moves, etc. Thinking of sound as a potential type is as ridiculous as waiting for Punching or Sleep Inducing type.

Your opinion on the light type “not having enough concepts” is wrong. It can be based off prisms, the colour spectrum, rainbows, abstract light, colour, types of man made lights, the list goes on. A lot of moves would realistically be good light type moves, light screen, dazzling gleam, etc, When the fairy type was added, 22 pokemon gained it. Here’s a list of pokémon that could gain the light type. (I will include pre-evolutions to keep things fair.
      1. Chinchou
      2. Lanturn
      3. Helioptile
      4. Heliolisk
      5. Cosmog
      6. Cosmoem
      7. Lunala
      8. Solgaleo
      9. Necrozma
      10. Xurkitree
      11. Hattena
      12. Hattrem
      13. Hatterene
      14. Pumpkaboo (It’s based off of a jack o’ lantern, but there have been pokémon that use plants before that aren’t grass type so this could work as such)
      15. Gourgeist
      16. Scream Tail
      17. Iron Thorns
      18. Miraidon
      19. Voltorb (It explodes, explosions don’t always make fire, but they always make some kind of light unless it’s smoke, they either make light or fire and the explosion animation clearly shows light and zero fire.)
      20. Electrode
      21. Hisuian Voltorb
      22. Hisuian Electrode.
Not only have I named concepts, I’ve given existing pokémon the light type and I’ve even given the exact same amount that was added to fairy.

    "Steel would definitely resist Sound"
That's crazy, I always think the exact opposite.
Put on some layers of steel armor and then stand on a riverbank while a giant vibrating transport ship passes by.
When I picture a Metagross getting hit by a Hyper Voice that's been re-typed into a Sound type, I imagine its brains being vibrated to mush (as I'd picture Steel AND Psychic to be weak to it... as well as Electric and Fighting..)

I think Ground should be resist to sound, but then again sound can sometimes travel through the ground, but Rock would be weak against sound if enough vibration could crack rocks tbh, also some sounds associates with ground like earthquakes and such, some ground type moves could change to sound, unless leave ground types alone or some sound types are just ground types tbh, so there's that
Also, what about Cyber type? Maybe a glorified Electric type with few of its abilities, resistance and such gets changed or swapped around, so there's that tbh

I think a big part of the argument as to why fairy can be considered the best type is that firstly, poison and steel types are still not the best types offensively. Fairy is the only relevant type steel and poison hit for super effective damage. This leads into my second point that steel itself is much worse offensively than fairy. Again, fairy is the only relevant type that steel hits for super effective damage while fairy hits the important types of dragon, dark, and fighting. Moonblast is considered one of the most spammable moves in the game for a reason

95 power instead of the standard 90, wide distribution, and for some reason iirc its drop chance is 30%. Compare that to play rough, which is weaker, has worse accuracy and its chance to drop attack is 10%.

I think fairy/ghost are up there too but yah steel has to be one of the best types but it has its weakness not as tough to counter as some niche ones like electric that have 1 counter typing they can negate list goes on and on fire, ground, fighting most likely water hits pretty good it doesn’t have as many resistances as you think it’s honestly just poison resistant and elemental but there’s a lotta 2X weakness that can die to stab hits like nothing if ur not carful doesn’t matter the stats with steel so yah it isn’t as good as I thought just having base stats was the only thing keeping it afloat the typing is a mixed bag

(5:54-6:40) As a competitive player, let me correct you why Fairy is seen as broken.
    - Steel may have more defensive resistances, but offensively it isn't strong, especially their secondary effects, also their accuracy aren't always the best.
    - Water is know for being tanky, but it has no immunities... Water also doesn't have good secondary effects... other than Scald which was nerfed in distribution... there's also ways to reduce it's power with abilities and weather.
    - Fire is also great, one of my faves, but there's ways to reduce their Fire power with abilities, and weather.
Now let's look at Fairy... their accuracy doesn't suck, the worst one is Play Rough at 90%... and there's no real way to reduce their attacks. Let's look at some other moves shall we...
    - Baby Doll Eyes: Lowers attack; has priority 1
    - Dazzling Gleam: Base 80 spread move, that doesn't miss.
    - Decorate: Increases attack and sp.attack by 2 stages, bypasses your allies Protect, and Detect
    - Draining Kiss: Base 50 attack but steals 75% HP back
    - Moonblast: Base 95 after the universal 95>90 nerf... it has a 30% chance to reduce sp.attack unlike the common 10%
    - Play Rough: Base 90 with 90% accuracy with a 10% chance to reduce attack. (fairest Fairy move)
    - Spirit Break: signature move yes, but always reduces sp.attack on a relevant DOU Pokemon
And this is just a few... not to mention Misty Explosion and Strange Steam... other decent moves.

    • @Nuclearstomp
      @Nuclearstomp 4 месяца назад +18

I mean from a competitive standpoint specifically...
      BDE: Bad move.
Dazzling Gleam: Is pretty weak with no secondary effect. Sure it's a spread move... but it's an 80 power spread move.
Decorate: Is only on Alcremie, which is a bad Pokemon.
Draining Kiss: Is only really good on Triage Comfey in lower single tiers tiers, otherwise it's a bad move.
Moonblast: Is a REALLY good move.
Play Rough: Generally balanced. A lot of mons that want this move don't even have it.
Spirit Break: Is only on 2 Pokemon, both of which could completely live without it.
Moonblast is arguably the only fairy move that is in any way broken that isn't a legendary signature move.

Psychic also works for light as well because it's also a "cosmic" type due to how so many psychic issues work with cosmos and stars and etc....
And that's the issue with a lot of new types people try to create... they technically already exist as other types....

You said light magic when in media presents light magic as, for the most part, something linked the holiness and or the heavenly realm or even the church. On top of that the gods and the church in media have always been the antithesis of fae or fairies. Light can be that of nature like you said the sun, which isnt fire but burning gas that is capable of giving off photons that we call light.
Light in media is considered one of the elements and is seen as pure. Fairies are not pure. They are caring spirits that take care of nature and everything around them but still cause trouble from time to time. A light bulb mon can be both electic/light type cuz electicity creates light, whereas its not light itself.

To justify sound type a bit:
    - Metal amplifies sound very effectively because of reverb. If sound is amplified by steel, it is super effective to steel.
    - Most bugs cannot hear, you could even argue that they’d be immune to sound type!
    - Snow is very good at muffling sound, therefore sound would be not very effective to ice.

Normal types along with several other types can use sound attacks but ultimately sound is just a pressure wave and has nothing to it besides that. Heck if anything it's closer to lighting because thunder is a result of thunder heating the air making it rapidly expand.

Flying is used instead of wind so that they can include Pokemon that can create wind by flapping wings but not actually tied to wind like say a wind spirit Pokemon. Sound feels to me that it is neutral and everybody can make a sound whether by their body or by using things like heat. most Pokemon that are sound themed are just really loud. Maybe I'm trying to make something work out of nothing but if they were to add sound I think it could work as follows:
    1. Resisted by bug since they often make sound (as mentioned in video)
    2. Super Effective on Steel as the vibrations of sound can cause steel to become weaker/loose.
    3. Super Effective against Fairy as since they are associated with fairy tales and sort of dream like situations, a loud sound can wake you up and therefore end the fairy tale.
    4. Resisted by Dark as darkness doesn't care if there's sound and in space where it often considered dark, there is little to no sound.
I'd also make Electric super effective against Steel and have Rock now also be super effective against Electric.

I would say these are the current issues with the Type Chart that are in urgent need of addressing, be it by re-balancing the current type match-ups or by adding a new type:
    Ice Type: Too many weaknesses and not a single resistance that it can actually make use of. Beforehand it was arguable this was a balancing choice due to their niche of being the only type with a strictly positive match-up against Dragons but even if that were the case, they were still weak back then and that reason is obsolete now that the Fairy Types have taken that niche. If there is a type that needs a defensive buff, it's ice, take away some of its weaknesses and give it some proper resistances for god's sake;
    Bug Type: Too many Types resist it, that is pretty much it, take away some Types' resistance to Bugs and they would not be top tier but would definitely be infinitely more usable;
    Poison Type: In a weird situation where it just falls a little bit short in both offensive and defensive properties, it is not terrible in either department, just sorta weak in both;
Rock Type: Similar to Ice, too many weaknesses albeit not as bad as it does have some resistances. Another issue unrelated to Type match-ups is also that Rock lacks good moves that are accurate, which is another area it needs a buff in.
There are also some types that are far from downright bad but could use a little help, mainly Grass, Psychic and Fighting. Again, none of them are downright bad, if we lived in a world they were the three worst types in the game as they are it would mean the type chart is pretty balanced all things considered.

      I have some suggestions.
Ice should have been super effective against Water-Types for very obvious reasons. Ice should be able to resist Steel-Type Pokemon as most metal freeze on ice and the harsh cold. Most bugs and most people and normal animals can't survive the cold, I would also make Ice-Type super effective against Bug and Normal-Type Pokemon (which the latter of the two I think needs more weaknesses and types that resist it as it's the most basic type). To make the Ice-Type chart healthier, I would make Ice resist and be resisted by Rock and Fighting-Type Pokemon and making Fire-Types their only weakness.
Poison should have been super effective against Bug and Normal-Type Pokemon for pretty obvious reasons.
Bug-Types I would take away 2 types that they're super effective against, Grass and Psychic-Type. I would instead make them super effective against Ground, Dark, Ghost and Dragon-Types. Make Bug resist and be resisted by both Grass and Fairy-Types and make them no longer be resisted by Fighting-Types and do neutral damage instead, same thing for the relationship between Bug and Psychic-Type.
Rock, where do I start? Rock should have ABSOLUTELY be super effective against Steel-Types because rocks can and will wreck most metal and steel and also can turn metal tools into rust (like ground, dirt and soil do), make them resist and be resisted by Ground and Fighting-Type Pokemon. This makes Pokemon like Diancie no longer having the x4 Steel-Type weakness (making Rock/Fairy-Type be weak to only Water and Grass-Types).

      @saskiaviking9447 4 месяца назад +5

Yeah, ice could use one or more resistance. Ice should resist water (just like water resists ice) and maybe flying?
For rock, I wonder if making it immune to fire would work?
For bug and grass, make them resist fairy (because fairies don't usually damage nature). Remove the bug resistance for fairy.
And if you want to nerf steel a bit, just remove one of its resistances (like they did with Ghost and Dark in gen 6). Dragon maybe?

    • @pussmagic1541
      @pussmagic1541 4 месяца назад

@saskiaviking9447 Or alternatively make Bug and Fairy-Types Pokemon resist each other since fairies often befriend bugs and some species of bugs are a part of some fairies' diets, and there are bugs that harm fairies as well. Grass and Bug-Types should resist each other instead of the latter be super effective against the former (execpt for Infestation) as some plants eat bugs (fly traps for example) and some insects and bugs help plants and crops rather than damaging them.
Rock should resist Fighting and Ice-Types and also be resisted by them at the same time. And also make them super effective against Steel-Types because for similar reasons to why Steel is weak to Ground-Type Pokemon (with the execption of some Steel-Type moves that can resist Rock-Types better than others).
Ice-Types should resist Fighting and Rock-Types and resist them back as ice can break rock formations and plently of fighters who can't stand the cold and get frost bites and vice versa. I would make them super effective against Water-Types as ice beats water (with moves that involve hot water cancelling out the weakness, especially Volcanian's signature move) and Normal-Type Pokemon as most normal animals and most normal people can't adapt to the cold. I would make them resist Steel-Type Pokemon instead of be weak to it because most metal freeze and get frost, making them not work properly. Or alternately, make them super effective against Steel-Types for those reasons (only few Steel-Type moves will be able to resist Ice-Types). I would make them super effective against Bug-Type Pokemon because most bugs can't survive the cold.
Speaking of Normal-Type Pokemon, I think they should also be weak to Poison-Types as well as Ice and Fighting-Type Pokemon and get resisted by Fire, Water, Dark, Bug and Electric-Types. Fire because fire burns people and animals, dark and Bug since most people are scared of the dark and bugs (instead of making Psychic-Type weak to bugs, why not make them take neutral damage and make them resist Normal-Type Pokemon instead), water as most people can't survive huge waves and are not expert swimners and electric because most people can get strikes with electricity, especially lighting.

Problems with the type chart could pretty easily solved with just a few changes. Make psychic supereffective into steel(with psychic attacks going through steel, or the whole spoon bending thing), make bug resist fairy and psychic and make it neutral into ghost and fairy, and make ice resist water. I think all of these make intuitive sense, at least more than what we have currently, like why the hell does steel resist psychic? At the very least it should be neutral. This is probably the best way to fix the type chart currently.
Although… I do think light COULD work as a new type, if only barely. At the very least, light is way better than sound as a new type.
First of all, there are ~ thirty lines/individual pokemon that work with the light type while there are max like 25 that work with sound. Not that that is a big difference, but its something. Then, adding sound doesn’t really help the type chart much. I think the best it could do is be weak to bug and good into water, and maybe be weak to ice because of sound traveling less far in the cold? Sound would also basically have to be good into psychic since sound disrupts concentration and psychic already sucks. Light would be better since it could help bug, grass, ice, and rock(and ground) by hitting them for neutral(bugs like light, plants feed on light, ice reflects light, and rocks and ground mute light). Light also doesn’t need to beat dark, you can have light be supereffective against dark and dark be supereffective against light.
Ok, but here’s the big thing. Adding sound comes with a bunch of other problems. First of all, it already exists in the game so stuff like throat spray and throat chop would have to either be reworked or removed. Then the problem of moves comes in. What do you do for a move like bug buzz? It already works perfectly as a bug type sound based move. By adding the sound type you would actually be taking something away from the move(either bug or sound). On top of that, you basically completely remove the only strong normal type special moves. Adding light as a type doesn’t come with any big problems like that. Basically all the potential light moves come from different types and could pretty cleanly be transformed into light type. And since light moves don’t exist, there isn’t the problem that sound has with sound based moves.
Now to be fair, in order for light to work it would have to embody several ideas, similar to how flying represents literal flight, as well as wind, or how fighting is both martial arts and justice. For light I think this would mean it would represent physical light like xurkitree, as well as divinity like arceus, and general daytime stuff like lycanrock day form.
In any case, I would prefer a simple revamp of the type chart, I just wanted to say that sound as a type SUCKS and light is much better.

I am also a fan of sound type but here are some other suggestions:
    1) Spin or Rotation: Similar to Flying, it is a movement-inspired type and works for Pokémon like Spinda, Brambleghast and Hisuian Liligant. This type's moves are super-effective against Steel, Rock, Dragon and Water (because they are mass-based types), not very effective against Fire, Bug, Flying and Ground (as spinning is not an issue to them), and useless against Psychic since its telekinetic powers and non-reliance on physical sense doesn't care about the direction. Pokémon of this type are weak to Fire, Poison and Ground (since they either amplify the damage or mess up the movement) and resist Steel, Rock, Dragon and Water.
    2) Crystal or Glass: This material type is already integrated into the designs of several Rock, Psychic and Dark Pokémon such as Diancie, Starmie and Sableye, and we also saw the Crystal Onix in a Pokémon anime episode before, so this could be justified to introduce it. This type's moves are super-effective against Fairy (disorienting and hard surface) and Ghost (amulets as protectants), and weak to Rock, Steel and Fighting (stronger material/force). The type resists Fairy, Fire (strong heat resistance or melts on top of it), Flying, Grass and Bug (window glass protected from outside animals/plants coming in), and Pokémon of this type are unaffected by Ghost type attacks.
    3) Magnetic or Cohesion: Several Steel and Electric types like the Magnemite line, Minun, Plusle and Probopass share this concept so this could be a chance to separate it as its own type. The idea behind this type is an abstract but very real concept of sticking together and creating forces from polarisation. This type's moves are super-effective against Steel, Fighting and Flying (causes disorientation) and Electric (redirection), not effective against Water and Grass, and useless against Dark and Ghost (since they aren't affected by it physically or mentally). Magnetic Pokémon resist Steel and Electric, but are weak to Water, Dark and Ghost.

Sound could be supereffective against steel, water, and psychic and resisted by rock, bug, and ghost. As for defensively, it resisting steel and rock would make sense, and it could be weak to psychic and ghost. As for reasons:
Sound travels through water and most metals MORE efficiently than air, and loud noises disrupt the focus of psychic types, as well as hurting their sensitive senses.
Many bugs aren't affected by loud noises, and rock for the most part dampens or reflects sound. Ghosts also typically aren't effected by loud noises very much.
Resisting steel and rock is because loud sounds pass through (aren't effected by) steel, and bounce away from rocks.
Weakness-wise, sound is intangible, so it makes sense that ghosts and psychics would hit it effectively.
As far as balancing goes, giving ghost and psychic a third type to hit super-effective would serve them well, the same goes with giving them a third resistance. This also serves to buff the rock type defensively, which it somewhat needs, as well as nerfing it offensively (which it, and more importantly steath rocks, also somewhat need.) The interactions with steel are both obvious and would serve to nerf steel somewhat, as are it being the third weakness of water. Giving bug type a resistance to such an otherwise strong type serves to help it defensively, same as already mentioned with rock type.
I think implementing sound in this way would make it a serviceable 19th type that helps check two of the strongest types. balance out some more middling types, and hopefully elevate the bug type beyond what it currently is. Unrelated, but make poison super-effective against water too, seriously why isn't it already?

    Sound and Light = Wave
You can call it wave type and you can choose between more things for designs and attacks,
no idea what their interactions between types would be like
At the same time, since it is very general, you can ignore parts of it at your convenience and people probably won't notice.
Cosmic = there are some pokemon that could go in... but a pokemon shouldn't be a type because it comes from space, and things like meteors or stars are easily covered by other types
Nuclear = Expecific, how do you justify that there are too many pokemons of this type without having to resort to "blame of nuclear contamination"
    Time = Just not
In the end I say that if there is a new type, it should benefit the ice and/or bug type (in addition to obviously nerfing the overpower type which is the reason for its existence), I mean, a Technology type would probably be weak to Bug,
Besides, there are already a few pokemons that could become that type, along with some attacks, and it is an excuse for several different designs... although now that paradox pokemons exist, it would probably be impossible, it would basically make them less unique by half. of special pokemons of the ninth gen
In general, there is no room for a new type, the options... are not good enough, or directly bad

While I wouldn’t mind the addition of another type of- even it’s one that makes less sense to me - I also doubt that we’ll get another any time soon. The only reasons I can see it happening is if the developers want to shake things up a bit again, or it’s to ensure that things are a bit more equal. Saying that, I also believe that it’s more the specific Pokémon that throw off game balance rather than just the type itself. Flutter mane is as much a threat in the meta as it is because of its stats as much as its typing.

Sound beating Fairy and Water makes sense to me. Fairies are dainty, peaceful creatures that would be adverse to harsh, grating noises, while shockwaves are far more lethal underwater.
Sound could give defensive utility to Rock, Ice (solid, unmoving elements) and Bug (creatures that are already super noisy).
... However, Steel would absolutely resist Sound, which is an issue. No clue what Sound would be weak to, either, other than itself and maybe Psychic (which could create their own shockwaves to "destroy/cancel out" sounds).

I think my main gripe with Sound type is that any argument you could make for a type being a weakness could also work for it being a resistance. Like Steel, Rock, Ground, all of these are solid surfaces that block or dampen sound so they could be resistances, but also enough sound can take down buildings made of these things, so would they be weaknesses? I think so many new type concepts are just too abstract as you said. Only one I could possibly see is Virtual maybe because at least with that there is a lot to cover, it could easily work to buff Bug types because of the idea of a computer virus/bug in programming, idk if it would necessarily nerf Steel, but I think it could buff Bug & Poison for sure

I think sound would actually work very well for bug and steel if you think about it more like sound waves and vibrations. Many insects have limited or no hearing and are uneffected by loud sounds(this could straight up even be built in soundproof). The problem with Bug is that too many types resist it. Giving it one new type to be supereffective against doesn't help if half the opponent's team still resists it, making switches against it too easy. It sucks offensively and one good interaction isn't going to change that. The better solution would be imo to make Bug a defensive type. It already has a super valuable resistance against Ground, giving it a few more might really make it valuable as a secondary type for defensive purposes. Giving Bug a resistance to Fairy and Ghost would really help the type imo since both of those resistances would be really valuable and both of those types could also use the nerf.
To nerf Steel, I think it should be weak to Water, since wetness makes it rust. To balance out water, it should also gain a new weakness in turn, and I propose Poison. Poison could definitely use the buff, and with pollution and with acidification due to climate change, more and more water reservoirs are becoming toxic and killing their inhabitants. This interaction thus already has a match in the real world and could serve as a grim reminder of the value of nature, just like Cursola already does (so we have in-game precedent for that too).

The big thing to consider is resonant frequencies: while most recognizable in an Opera Singer breaking glass with their voice, you also see it in things like the Millennium Bridge which was damaged by resonant frequency while being mostly Steel. Sound is a lot better for the type balancing than you think. First and foremost it'll most likely be neutral to steel, as sound and steel don't really interact, but sound does interact with water and the air so it'll be super effective to water and flying, but would also deal super effective damage to fairy due to sound pollution. Not only that but a type like bug would be buffed because of one key factor, most bugs in real life are deaf. So bug type would actually be immune to sound type, this was even shown in a johto special wher a trainer had her Jigglypuff sing at a beedrill but it didn't effect it at all, the reason was because of beedrills wing but we can say bugs are immune. We can also make ice type resists sound as sound waves travel slower in colder Temps! So actually sound is almost perfect

Strength could be a fighting type attack, sandstorm can be ground, bulldoze can be steel, etc. Essentially just figure out which one makes more sense. Fire punch is a punch so it can be considered a fighting type attack BUT it's specifically a punch made of fire so it's fire. A move like bug buzz would most likely stay bug due to it specifically being the buzzing of a bug's wings so that makes sense for it to be bug and not sound. Moves like snarl and clanging scales would be made into the new sound type because they are not specific to a type, clanging scales is just a pokemon clanging its scales, not specifically dragon scales. I think I’ve come up with a type that answers all of your prompts. The Digital Type
There’s really only 1, maybe two species of Pokémon associated with cyberspace and computers. The Porygon line can easily be changed into Digital or Normal/Digital, and Rotom can also be Electric/Digital or conversely Digital/Ghost.
It’s unique enough from something like Psychic or Electric to fit into its own unique theme
Digital doesn’t just need to pertain to computers. They can use sound waves/vibrations (some music, specifically edm, is made with oscillators), geometric shapes, numbers, maybe even a randomness luck factor might be fitting for the theme
    And for the type interactions:
    -
    Weaknesses
-Bug: a lot of the weaknesses are more for the puns. Bugs make computer programs and coding all messed up
    -Poison: Viruses, self explanatory
-Fire: Overheating causes them to mess up and their batteries to drain faster
    -Ice: Computers freezing
-Water: Water messes up their circuits
    Resistances
-Steel: Computers are made with metal
-Electric: Powers up computers and charges their batteries. Could be an immunity
-Psychic, Dragon, and/or Fairy: a bit of a stretch, but logic and science refutes magic and fantasy
    Super Effective against
-Steel: I feel like because computers can be associated with steel, it’s the fact that steel can be at the mercy of technology
-Fairy: idk it just feels right
    Resisted by
    -Fire
    -Water
    -Ice
-Clearly with a lack of resistant types as well as quite a list of weaknesses that it can function similarly to a mix of Dragon and Ice, being a glass cannon with little types that resist it and little to hit for super effective damage as well, but also a bit of types threaten it. Ice also get to have a nice defensive niche/buff being one of 3 types to resist Digital attacks
    Thoughts?

Strong to: Water, Ground, Rock, Steel
    Resistant by: Electric, Ice, Ghost
    Immune by: Bug,

FIRE: Sound can be used to extinguish fire. However, sound travels faster in heat. Therefore, I think it should be neutral.
WATER: Sound travels faster through liquids. Therefore, it would be hurt more by sound.
BUG: Many bugs don't use sound to navigate. Therefore, should be immune.
    NORMAL: Neutral
FLYING: Birds use sound to communicate, though I don't see it hurting them.
    POISON: Nuetral
ELECTRIC: Sound can be converted into electricity. So it should resist sound.
GROUND: Sound travels faster through earth. Therefore, it would be hurt more by sound.
FIGHTING: Nuetral. Sound can affect the preforming of a fighter but also increase adrenaline.
PYSCHIC: Nuetral. Sound can improve concentration while also distracting.
ROCK: Sound travels faster through solids. Therefore, it would be hurt more by sound.
ICE: Sound travels slower in cold. There for should resist sound.
GHOST: Some sounds are associated with haunting and spiritual chants. Therefore, they may be affected less by its effects.
DRAGON: Nuetral. Sound shouldn't affect them too much
DARK: Nuetral. Sound shouldn't affect evil.
STEEL: Sound travels faster through solids. Therefore, it would be hurt more by sound.
FAIRY: Nuetral. Sound shouldn't affect them too much

Flutter mane's domination in VGC says it all
Weaker types like Bug and Ice need a rework on type charts
Ghost moves needs an another resistance, its the best offensive type in the game

Tbf Flutter Mane being broken is less due to its type and moreso that GameFreak thought 135 SpAtk, SpDef and Speed were balanced. For VGC Fire, Water and Steel give it major competition for the top spot and for singles Water, Steel and Ghost does the same

Why would steel resist sound, Given the right frequencies and pitches and a powerful enuff speaker of sorts you can shatter steel the same way an opera Singer can shatter a wine glass.

Yeeeah, as interesting as getting a new type could be... it'd basically just be too gimmicky, and make our current types unbalanced again.
Even though Fairy types were added so long ago, it STILL feels like we're balancing them out alone. So another new type on top of that could basically break the system.
I also just feel like most ideas for new types are too... one dimensional? Like Light type could've been cool, but Fairy basically fulfilled that purpose. And something like "Sound" would probably only apply to so many existing mons, and the ones made for it would be too on the nose. Its not as broad as the Fairy type weirdly.

  • @Tenc5123

Sound type can be super effective on both steel and fairy, vibration spread into metals (and for the same logic sound can be super effective on water too), about fairy, the power of music is known to be very powerful in fairytale worlds and can surpass any being. The sound type can be weak against the electro (the lightning comes before the thunder), against the fire type because a flame extinguishes the air that spread the vibrations (here the association is a little more complex). I can also think of other interactions based only on logic and not on an actual need for balance with most types, among the most valid with psycho, ghost and grass

  • @TheCrazyhusky

Honestly Fairy type was a mistake, they needed do to some actual game balancing within types and adjust moves so that some of them weren't spammable anymore.
For start changing Outrage to be a recoil move to be more inline Flare blitz and Volt tackle so it damages you, meaning that pokemon KO's itself after using a few times.

They made many mistakes with the typings, rock and ground should just be earth, flying should be wind, and does poison really needed to be a type? Fairy could be light, or magic or something

    • @TheCrazyhusky
      @TheCrazyhusky 4 месяца назад +1

@@ratedr7845 I think having Ground and rock types be different things is fine. Though i think they need to be changes to be a little more different.
For instance make Rock resistant to Water and Ice due to our houses are made of rock and they don't melt in the rain, it does not make sense for Rock to be weak to water. Ground is mud and should be weak to Water and Ice those not solid rock. Also get rid if its Grass weakness, I don't know what has it. Again, Ground should be weak to Grass and has nutreits for the grass to absorb while rock is hard carbon and Gems with no nutriet value, it should hit for normal damage.
With those 2 tweaks Ground and Rock would look different with no over overlap.
Also it would give Rock type the defensive buffs it needs, only have 3 weakness rather 5 weakness. One of 2 types that have 5 weaknesses, too many.

@@ratedr7845 Psychic type is actually the stand in Light type. Many of it's moves are light based.
Light screen, Reflect, Mist ball, photon geyser, Lumina Crash, Luster purge and few others.
We do a need proper Sound-type though, For too long they've been using normal type for the sound based things. This why Melotta is part normal type, and why Jigglypuff kept its Normal typing in Gen 6.

Lore Wise, introducing a new type works since not all games take place in the same universe. Cass in Point: Ruby vs. Omega Ruby.
I think Sound would be a good type, but it would hinder Psychic, Flying, maybe Fairy, but definitely Bug because the noise would be very disruptive to their focus. And Sound would be resisted by things such as Ground, Rock, Water, AND Steel since sound is muffled by them.
Honestly, if you want to buff bug, we need a weather condition that is like a biblical swarm.

Steel and Ice need to be mutually weak to each other, considering extreme temperatures weaken steel - actually that relationship should happen somewhere in the type chart but it doesn't... Ice and water should also be mutually weak to each other.

If I were to try and excuse Sound as a Type that works against Steel, I would probably use how from scientific perspective, sound transfer and heat transfer are closely related (using the same carrier, or phonons), which is why good heat conductors are also good sound conductors, so you could claim that Sound and Fire would go together (sure, Fire is technically a different mechanism, but still, Type chart justifications are handwavey at best anyway). Bug resisting Sound could be justified to a degree by them doing some resonance shenanigans. But yeah, new Types would definitely mess the Type chart.

I think Electric type could use a slight nerf. They only have one weakness (ground) at the moment, and that's kind of annoying sometimes. Like sure, in competitive games its not a big deal since _everyone_ uses Earthquake all the time, but for casual players it can be frustrating if you just happen not not have any ground type moves (especially if its an Electric/Flying type).
I have no clue what type it could be weak to though. Maybe a "cosmic" type? I feel like Psychic is used as a stand-in for that kind of thing too often, so it would be fitting...
And it would make sense too because stereotypically aliens/UFOs are able to mess with electronics. It could also be super effective against Steel too, for the same reason.

9:19 i actually think most bug types should hypothetically be weak to sound, as certain bat species use sound to hunt for things like moths, but also some moth species have adapted ways to counteract this such as making sounds with their wings to confuse the bat's echolocation somewhat, so it could honestly go either way

Great video, as always! 🙂 i definitely don’t see GF adding a new type for a long time yet, but i actually think Cosmic could work.
I can’t remember who, but another RUclipsr pitched a concept for its balance that interacted nicely with the others. I can’t remember it well either unfortunately, but he suggested it be immune to Fire due to the vacuum of space, and he brought up how, like Fairy, it could take a sort of subtype of Psychic and flesh it out. There are loads of mons that would fit it.
But yeah, Steel would definitely resist it, and it probably wouldn’t help Bug…

    Weak To:
    Bug (Pun on computer bugs)
    Cyber (Hackers exist)
    Poison (Pun on computer virus)
    Water (This should be obvious)
    Strong Against:
    Cyber (Already explained)
Fairy (Fairy = Magic, opposite of Cyber)
Fighting (If AI is smart enough it could predict a fighter's strategy)
Psychic (If AI is smart enough it could outsmart a genius)
Steel should have some kind of interaction with Cyber but Im not sure what kind specifically.

The major problem with a nuclear type is that pokemon uranium already did it as a double edged sword that is only resistances is steel and itself and super effective again everything else, this literally only moved the chart more in steel's favor making the grass starter a no brainer due to getting steel as a second type.
I would also like to mention that sound could be super effective against steel and water because both are very good at carrying vibrations and ice could resist it since it's very hard to hear anything from someone buried in snow, but rock could also be open to it and I think it has enough weakness.

JPR you should do a video on rebalancing the type chart. I think some solid ideas are making ice resist water, ground, and grass, take away steel>>fairy and have fairy's weaknesses be bug and poison with grass resisting fairy as well (kinda like nature being fairy's counter), and its probably impossible, but combining earth and rock into one type lmao.

I think sound could easily be super effective against steel types. Ever heard of resonant frequencies? It's basically when the area around an object is vibrating at the same frequency as the object, causeing the object to vibrate aggressively or break. It's how an opera singer can shatter glass. I remember seeing a video of a sword reacting to it's resonant frequency and it was vibrating so aggressively that I think a steel type Pokemon could take a super effective amount of damage when being hit by a hyper voice or a boom burst.
