Blanket Russian-blaming ain't cool. But neither is blanket refusal to accept (at least some) responsibility on our part. By "us" I mean Russians anywhere in the world. It may not be our _fault_ but it's still on us to undo Russian government's atrocities of today in generations to come 💙✊

At least those Russian, who are now outside of Russia and thereby outside of the immediate reach of Mr. Putin, should get together and stand up against what Russia has become since aggressive Putinism took over (1999 and onwards ?). Personally, I would love to see an opposition in exile, that openly worked for a "free Russia", a reborn Russia, that is democratic, non-aggressive, open and respect the sovereignty of nations around it. It may be an enormous change, but it would be first steps to a normalized relationship between Russia and Western nations. From where I sit, in Denmark, I believe we would love to see Russians, that would say "Well, yes, we are Russians. But our old nation has turned itself in a direction, that we dislike. Let's try to change it together".

I blame even the 16% of Russians who disapprove putler's activities. They help russian economy by working and paying taxes. Feeling is somewhere between hate, disgust and no feelings at all. Asking us not to blame them is soft propaganda and people seem to buy that. There are probably under 1% who actively help Ukraine and deserve our respect.

@@Mario-xr3jo They probably do - just like the majority of Germans also seemed to support Hitler and his gang. "We'll rule the world, go on Kraft durch Freude-holidays, get a VW and the Aryan race is unbeatable". A few years later, they sat in ruined cities, ate horse cadavres and found out the hard way, that the Nazi ideology had met its doom. Maybe Russians needs to hit that same realization - but in general, it would be better if we could avoid getting there.

I've followed Yashin for a long time (well, probably about a month after the invasion) and learned a lot about Russian politics from his 'roliki' (love that word). His vids about Shoigu and Kadirov and Medvedev are educational if biased. I believe Yashin is a real Russian patriot. But I believe that Putin is too and that there's a reason this war is happening. NATO and the EU (NATO's political wing) is not benign, and I say that as a US military member who participated in SFOR in Bosnia-Hercegovina and supported (from behind the lines) the bombing of Yugoslavia/Serbia and KFOR. Just look what the US and the EU are doing to Hungary despite Orban and Fidesz being overwhelmingly elected in a democratic process. Duda in Poland was getting the same treatment before he went all going ho on the war in Ukraine. And of course we had yet another bombing of Syria today by a US taxdollar supported government.
I am happy that youtube found this channel for me; I follow a few pro-government Russian channels, so it is good to get an opposition view that isn't all 'attitude' and not even in Russia anymore.
What do you think of Alexsei Pivovar and 'Redaktsiya'?

In Hungary Orbán and his party are not elected in a democratic way. You just watch a staged show, when in the background dirty things are happening. He totally changed the election system in a way which gives him 2/3 majority with a much lower portion of the votes. It's more like he is taking part in a sport game where he is the referee and even the reporter too. He has built a corrupt system, in which taxpayers' money goes directly to his childhood buddy, an uneducated gas worker. His oligarchs bought the independent media and converted them to propaganda channels/newspapers. The number of people who hate him is much higher than the numbder of his supporters, but opposition parties are not trusted too, so many people are inactive on elections. All the popular opposition politicians got so many attacks in their private life, that they left the political sphere. He always needs 'enemies' to make people forget about how hard their life is. Earlier the main enemy were Soros and the migrants, but for now he found inner enemies too, the teachers and health care workers, so his media is programmed now to descredit these people. As a hungarian citizen I see from inside that how our rights are taken in small steps. So please don't act like things go in a democratic way in Hungary.

I'll never forget your face in your first video after the invasion. Such terrible chagrin. It was easy to empathize when a national action goes against one's own beliefs. Many in the USA have felt this on a number of occasions. Nevertheless, I think it's hard for many Americans to understand the very different relationship Russians have with their government in contrast with that experienced by most of the West, i.e. "government of the people, by the people, for the people", as President Lincoln said.

I don't blame all Russians, certainly not Ilya Yashin, but I do blame the vast majority. In my opinion it's pathetic to try to paint a picture of lots and lots and lots of lots of people demonstrated. To my knowledge there has been +/- 20.000 legal cases all together to date of which the vast majority has been fines or shorter detentions. Russia has a population of +140.000.000. Around the start of the war the risk was so little compared to what the Ukrainians were going through. I'd expect millions to be on the street. From what I've been able to gather a huge number of people just don't give a shit. So for me personally, and many many years ahead, it will be guilty until proved innocent. I sincerely hope that sanctions including travel restrictions will stay in place for many many years in the future. How would I know whether the Russian next to me in the gondola in Canazei is one of Yashins judges or captors, or just somebody who didn't give a shit? I'll recognize Yashin. For the masses accept the collective responsibility, You have allowed this to happen and many of You have benefited from the criminal, corrupt and nepotistic society in getting jobs, schools, securing business, treatments and all the other sick things that has been going on for decades. You let things get out of hand. Ceterum censeo Putinem esse delendam.

I can follow your anger against Russians a long way. When there is a fire, small children are sometimes said to hide in a closet. When you cannot see the fire, everything is ok, right? But it is not. The Russian "House" is on fire, but most Russians still hide in that closet. At some time, they may start to smell smoke. Feel the heat. See the fire on the outside. But then it might be to late to save them. I would like other Russians forming an opposition. But it may be too late. On the other hand, I don't want Russians sanctioned and punished for all eternity. Maybe they will have "to get burned" and then start from scratch again. A bit like Germany after WW2. A part of history Russians seem to like, but for other reasons.

No, the truth here is that most Russians know that the US and EU NATO criminal globalists are at fault for this conflict, and the Ukrainians are stupid enough to allow them to take control and allow fascists to control them. This isn't about Ukraine. This is about destabilizing Russia - except the west is fighting against someone more intelligent than they are. Sanctions will not hurt Russia but will hurt the west in the long run - inflation in Russia is expected to hit around 5% in the first quarter of 2023, while the west will see double digits - Europe is lucky for a mild winter because without Russian energy they would be in worse shape. The destruction of Nord pipelines by the US was an act of war on Germany, but the western media is silent, as is the UN. They are all controlled by the American elite.

I hear many people interviewed on the streets complaining that the councils don't do work anymore, especially not removing snow from the streets etc. If every council had dozens of Ilya's on them and in the Kremlin Russia would not be at war but have a wonderful society and people a better life growing the economy all the time and not be seeing every other country as an enemy and starting wars. I wish him well. It's an outrage that good people like him are imprisoned. It proves that the Putin regime is just a mafia gang and doesn't care about the people. Government should be changed when it does not serve the citizens well or starts inducing hate to other countries followed by "special" (self destruction) operations.
Paying taxes in other country for some time seems the least risky yet the most democratic voting and resistance mechanism that was available for a RF citizen. Sad thing is that some people now can't even get the international passport. That starts to look like the biggest prison in the world... so your videos @StPetersburgme seem a bit similar to a letter from prison to The Times 🤗

There was a very good video from the first days of the invasion, when there were some small protests - 20 russians running from one policeman, think it sums things up pretty well. But one things seems quite strange to me - protesting, doing anything is dangerous for russians, ok, but not doing anything is even more dangerous - with the most conservative estimates there are over 100k people dead or injured. But it seems the regime played its cards well - there are not many mobilized from Moscow and St Petersburg, and only from there major problems for the russian Fuhrer can come. It's a win/win situation for everybody - people in Moscow and St Petersburg are living the good life and having fun, people from the rest of the country can make some good $$$ if they survive, or as compensation for their death to their families, absolute bargain. Good deal for everyone I guess, and it will go unopposed for as long as it has to.

I try to make sure I vote. I try to get the word out on something that people may not realize. I talk to friends and family. I show up to debates or protests and I may write an article about something. It doesn't change things overnight but In a Democracy, it can change over time. What I don't do is make excuses to others or other countries. I acknowledge our bad behavior, do what I can as a voting citizen and person of influence. When I go to sleep at night, I am satisfied I have done everything in my power. I humbly apologize to anyone my country has hurt and find a way to help. I don't spend time and energy making excuses or trying to divert attention away from the problem...

Hi Ksenia , as you suggested, I read this article , I am not familiar with this man so I can't offer much of an opinion on him . I for one am a huge admirer of the Russian people , I am not one of the propaganda run shallow , programmed by Russia phobia or China phobia stoked by Western media . This man states the world sees Putin as evil , he maybe hasn't noticed the largest countries on earth and many others who don't see that , and I would be very interested if he has an opinion on why the U.K supported by the U.S , blocked Russia's proposal for an enquiry into Bucha at the U.N . There have been some large anti war anti NATO involvement in this conflict in European cities , but these never get mentioned by most if any media . I am all for a free press and media , whether for those who support or are against Russia's actions , wherever they may be , I am also for a free press and media in the UK where I am , tho here the media is mainly right wing and offers mainly a right wing opinion . I was surprised to see this man has the means to be able to send a communication to the outside world , here in the U.K some journalists are jailed for proving war crimes and corruption of the elites and rulers and are not allowed such communications . Best regards.

Anyway this man, who is trying to change Russian life for the better, is risking a lot politically speaking as he is in jail and people in general are scaried about it. The situation is really bad for the people as they are compelled to keep quite and not say what they really think and Ilya Yashin is the proof of this.Take care Ksenia.

My friend in Russian has apologised and has also suffered mentally. She know that her dreams of visiting America or introducing me to her city will probably never happen.
I am visiting France in April to see the museums and memorials to D day. 70 years later and it still hurts so many people.
    Predictions for the future......

  • @aarhusnord
    @aarhusnord Год назад +2

Haven't read Ilya Yashin's article yet, but the apolitical behaviour of many (not all) Russians is a constant topic of interest to me. I understand, that Russia is a totalitarian society, and that voicing your opinion in different ways can be "dangerous" (also in different ways, depending on how you "misbehave"). However, when you look at it, being a male, that could be drafted for Ukraine could also turn very dangerous. Being a civilian living under sanctions also poses danger - are planes safe to fly, can you get the medicine you need, for example? As I understand it, much of the explanation to the Russian apathy seems to be, that "Russia has a population, not a people" as one Ukrainian RUclipsr put it. Some regions in the Far East and South may be so poor, that the chance of going to Ukraine to plunder and loot may be the "journey and chance of a lifetime". Vast parts of Russia seem to be caught up in despair, drinking, indifference, hate towards most parts of the world outside "Russkij Mir" - things have not been moving forward, maybe life was even better in Soviet days. To a great extent, Putin knows that, and many of those, who got drafted and possibly killed came from these poor, low income, "hopeless" parts of Russia. However, as the war drags on, its consequences become obvious to more and more Russians, and when young, well-educated, middleclass men from the fancier parts of Russia, like Moscow or Saint Petersburg, get drafted, too, maybe protests will get louder and more difficult to control. Especially, if there are no results to show after a year of war - what is the meaning behind it all, what are the objectives, why is there animosity against us?
From a Danish perspective, I think most people are able to distinguish Russian civilians from "the system"/Russian military/"Putin & friends". But ... Most Danes have probably never been to Russia, or have only been there shortly (personally, I have been like 4-5 days in Saint Petersburg, that's all). Just the process of getting a visa may scare some away, as we are so used to travelling freely over borders. Russia is not the mainstream choice for a city holiday, for example. Going to London, Rome, Berlin or Paris - much easier and maybe also less "intimidating". So what does the typical Dane got of firsthand experience with Russians? Well, interestingly enough, many have only met Russian people on holiday destinations in Turkey, where many seem to think, that the Russian holiday behavior is kind of a nuisance. The same applies to other nationalities, and especially Danish youngsters on holiday can be "wild", too. We are not perfect "angels", with good manners, either, when abroad. But that is the only time of year, where the majority of "us" may bump into Russians (in Denmark itself, there should only be around 6.000 Russians and descendants of Russians, so maybe 1 out of thousand would fall into that category). I.e. Russians here are few, and not very "visible" and active in the public debate, to be honest. So Russian people/civilians are kind of mysterious, rare-to-meet, "black boxes" in our lives, and if we finally meet some, either communication is more or less impossible. Or the Russians have probably integrated so well, that they are kind of bi-cultural and bi-lingual. So: if we don't visit Russia, don't understand the language or culture, only see them as a swarm of more or less insane holidaymakers in Turkey, all we can fall back on are prejudices and old tales and stories from the Cold War era. And then blaming a whole population of some 140-144 million people comes very easy. Maybe we need to get to know each other a little better - but a war doesn't facilitate that. And to many, there is probably also a growing indifference, anger, "russophobia", frustration, fear and a hundred of other feelings in action here. Why don't you all go to the streets, why are we not seeing the chaos, that could rock Putin's boat and possibly restore our faith in the Russian people? Why are there Russian women, who seem to okay, that their men commit rape on Ukrainian women? At least, females should understand each others feelings on such a sensitive topic. As I said, we know, that all Russians are not in favour of the war and that some are protesting in different ways. But far too many Russians appear to be laying low, trying to avoid problems themselves. They don't see, hear or say anything. That could be where some of the negative feelings towards Russians as a nationality could come from. We need another "Russian revolution" and after that a free, open and democratic "Free Russia". Take care, greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰.

YOu are very delusional, my friend - Russia doesn't need liberalism or globalism - it is cancer that is destroying tradition and culture. President Putin and most Russians know this, which is why they support this SMO in Ukraine to keep globalists and their sick liberal ideology from contaminating their country. Only liberal fools in Russia think the western "democracy" is good - maybe they forget the rape of their country in the 1990s and the criminal organizations propped up by the western carpetbaggers who tried to destroy Russia.

Hi Ksenia, as a Canadian, most of us understand why protesting is difficult and also understand ALL Russian people aren't the same. I feel that most Russians are in fear of this act and either prefer not get involved in protesting or prefer to leave it as is. The young people of your country are your only hope for some sort of freedom of speech. Understand why Ukraine fights so hard for its sovereignty at a great cost to their lives, but they will get what they want with Western help. Russians need to choose their future. Either they change it for the better or keep the statis Coe. Under this ruler, the future is bleek.
