Week 7 came out for Friday Night Funkin and the update was so popular it crashed newgrounds' servers. How popular this game is still blows me away sometimes.
So let's run a play through the new week and run some small checks before reviewing my thoughts on the new week and the current direction of the game and the game itself.
NOTE: Please don't ask me to play (insert mod here) or Roblox. I play what I find most interesting to me. Especially since... FNF mods don't interest me very much

It seems that a lot of my suggestions are already planned! I was aware of the kickstarter, though I guess my mindset during my review was 'the game is like this NOW, I review how it is NOW' because it talks about week 7 only! It's great that the devs are promising great strides that even I want to see in the game. Oh, but there is one thing I'd like the devs to add, I forgot to say this during my after thoughts:
LEGACY MODE
This is for the old versions of all the charts if they decide to change the charting for all the charts in the future. This is because I KNOW there's going to be people out there who want to try or play the older version of charts for some reason?? Well, this was done in phigros with the 'legacy chapter', and I think it'd fit very well in FNF as well.

FPS is bumped up to 144+ cap on desktop when that comes to itch, on browser it was a vsync type thing where it was unlocked like that.
and offset stuff is bein worked on!
inputs were touched up and tweaked, not some big overhaul just yet or anything
for note chords, some of the older charts have been updated, and some do have note chords, im preeeettty sure that engine DOES support those!
BUT I personally use them sparingly when I chart, because when i chart I also try to keep CHARACTER MOVEMENTS and their animations in mind when I chart. Trying to keep it all tied together like that. That kind of stuff def been on our minds since we started work on game tho!

In regards to that cords thing, they recharted some songs and they do actually have some cords in them. Atleast it did for me when i played.
Week 1 and 2 on hard have cords now
i replayed all the weeks and i feels like all (or most) of them feels different

Damn, looks like I have no taste on charts, because my brother thinks the week 4 charts are kinda bad, and tokaku said guns chart is weird, and I love both of them. Now I'm questioning myself: "Do I have shitty taste?".

Week 2 now has "Monster" as an official song, and it got re-charted.
"High" in week 4 now let's you do the mom's crazy part at the end.
And based off of other comments, weeks 1&2 now have some chords (I know week 1 with "Fresh" got the biggest change).

I think the issue with the charting is that the way it ties into the character animations may be motivating them to also consider whether the animation of a particular direction fits - they do, after all, tend to show the characters' mouths shaping different syllables.
I mean, they do have plenty of doubles in Monster’s song
I straight up cant keep up with guns, its lagging the hell out of my arrows and i really dont like the charting
That might just be a website problem honestly I can probably one tap IT on downscroll now (I really like the song but after like 30 attempts of arrows going so fast I become tired lol)

A lot of the things you mentioned that you wanted to see added to the game are actually listed on their new kickstarter for the full game! I believe the results screen and modding tabs are confirmed with a ton of other stuff implied, I haven't looked at it for a bit so things might've changed.

The *"Ugh"* sound was supposed to be a catchphrase or a joke but the composer of FNF (KawaiiSprite) use this sound as a sample and make a song out of it

FNF doesn’t have an early hit window, the earliest you can hit an arrow is essentially on-beat, there’s only late hit windows.
That’s also the reason why you can buttonmash if there’s no ghost-tap penalty, the earliest possible input is a “sick”.
I also just checked, and a sick is up to +25ms, good is up to +41ms, bad is up to +100 ms and shit is up to +116ms
+-25ms? Really? It felt looser than that...
@@tokaku There's a margin of error of +-4ms built into the engine, so I wouldn't be surprised if it often went up to 30ms. The values aren't strict at all

@@pov8659 Considering the game fits decent for beginners to rhythm games, not really, the problem is more there being no early hit window.
Although, when it comes to higher difficulty charts, I tend to reduce the timing window so it's less likely my inputs get eaten

If chords include hitting 2 notes at once, then FNF does have chords. Monster has plenty, Dadbattle and Senpai have some. I do agree, however, that the harder songs at least should have more 2, 3, 4 key hits in them.

Something a lot of people miss about this update is that there is now an official chart for Monster, the 3rd week 2 song, whereas before you would have to download a mod to play a fanmade chart. This official chart includes chords, so I think they actually did fix the engine to allow them.
You never had to download a mod to play monster? You just need to go in charting menu and type monster in song name textbox, press reload json and then enter to exit that menu.

Just a correction, the new input system does allow chords, it just isn't used much yet but there are chords, just only in really specific levels
The only 2 levels I noticed to have chords is the new Fresh rechart and the new Monster rechart. Monster was technically new with Week 7 as well, you should've played it, especially since that song uses chords quite frequently on Normal or Hard while Fresh only has a few chords at the beatbox section on Hard.
and something that wasn't mentioned, almost all the charts got touchups in the Week 7 update to be more fun and enjoyable while making use of the new engine. Personally, a true experience of the Week 7 as a whole would basically be playing the whole game again.
A quick correction of your correction. Monster wasn't added in Week 7. It was in the Week 6 update too, possibly earlier than that. However in those updates it was only available through Free Play mode rather than Story Mode. Idk if they added Monster to week 2 in the Week 7 update though since I can't get the game to load (I tried 20 times and it kept freezing during the HaxeFlixel load)

@@turboshell Oh, my mistake. I've never actually played unmodded fnf because my laptop has such terrible audio delay I *need* an offset adjustment option in order to play. Crossing my fingers vanilla gets that at some point.

A lil tip i noticed from playing, the new animation of when you hit the notes are actually indications that you are hitting the notes on time or "sick" ig, kay... Hopefully that's helpful
Fun fact: Almost all if not all of Tankman's lines were improvised. The little chuckles he does during these lines usually are just the VA laughing at himself

I'm not usually much for streams or commentary-gameplay videos but I have to respect this, the subtitles and notes are very cool things to put in and also you really rock at this game, most people I see struggle to make it to a hundred note combo, myself included
Something I’m happy about is the “Naughtiness” option that turns off the not so nice stuff. Just a preference but it’s a nice thing, especially for younger people.
My friend who doesn't play rhythm games said I was crazy when I told him the offset was super off before and there was input lag. Who's laughing now
Input lag combined with shotty mapping made the Christmas week a struggle for me. With this newest update, I aced the songs first try. It's so nice to see this game become a respectable rhythm game.

@@Ni4Ni right? Its better but not perfect. I grew up on games like Rockband and Guitar Hero. Each note actually landed on the beat. FNF has an issue where base game is either too early to too late. If you press when note plays it isn't matched

Something a lot of people missed in this update is the official Monster chart for week 2. This chart includes multinotes, so I guess they did fix the engine
@@entitylockington you’ve always been able to hit double notes, the problem was you couldn’t hit notes in succession too quickly or it would drop inputs. hitting two notes at the same time was fine, hitting multiple right after each other wasn’t.

There actually are some chords in some songs in FNF. The person who runs the Siivagunner channel helped change the charting for nearly every song and at least a few got chords, such as “Fresh” on hard mode. Also “Monster” at the end of week 2.
I love how you explain words that are everyday rythym game terms too your audience, I remember when I was new too rythym game I would always get confused whenever someone use one of those words, great addition too your content :D

Friday Night Funkin purpose is not to be another competitive Rhythm game. Its purpose is to make the best funkin' game ever!

the reason I enjoy Friday night Funkin mainly is the art and music. As an artist, seeing phantomarcade's work on this game is a huge inspiration to me, the style is phenomal (personal opinion), the colors and use of line weight is great and the music hit's in just the spot for me. fundamentally I'm aware of its flaws but at this point I couldn't care less, the game is fun to me and I enjoy getting high scores on the songs that I love, like I said, the game is a real driving force for me. I love its sort of casual attitude, just something to pick up and put down every now and then, plus its even inspired me to mod my own characters into the game, just a fun game that i always seem to enjoy.
P.S. I don't enjoy other rhythm games nearly a much because in most cases the music isn't quite my taste and there's no sick ass art. To be 100% honest, rhythm games just aren't my thing, but i really appreciate Friday night Funkin because it hits all spots for me, anyway, that was my rant, I know I'm coming off as ignorant, but hey, that's just how i feel.
Great stuff giving a glossary for rhythm game terms. Something like that would have really helped me when I started having an interest in this genre.

I’m really happy I actually played Friday Night Funkin because it got me to check out Quaver and I’m just starting out but I’m really enjoying it so far! And Week 7 has very nice new hit system so I’m very happy with everything in Week 7 and they are taking steps in the right direction.

My god you explaining the offset being early made so much sense! I didnt notice this issue cause I tend to play rhythm games on consoles instead of my computer. I just assumed I was bad at using the keyboard lol. Honestly, I kinda wish they let us set the offset ourselves so that players that are too fast or too slow could adjust the speed that works for them.
