    Great tip! I just watched this vid before doing a 2008 C5 vette compressor. Almost identical, but motor mount nut was on the subframe. Still, this concept is solid. No need to remove the water pump. Thank you sir for posting!

      468vega Just curious why you replaced your compressor? I am in a similar predicament with my ‘99 Coupe. I have a leak in the system and every Spring I end up having to put a 12oz can of R134A Freon in the car to last me through the Summer only to repeat the process the next year in the Spring. I read on the Corvette forum that these C5 Compressors develop leaks at the Compressor Seam through the casting. The reason why I am questioning the reason why you replaced your Compressor in your C5 if you care to share it.

      @@ffas23 Well as you, I got by several years too adding a can here and there till finally after hooking up the ac gauges to recharge system this time, the high side pressure was about equal to low side and knew that my compressor was bad.

      468vega in my situation this year I put that one can I usually put in the car in the beginning of May and I lost it by the end of June. Funny I put another can in last night through my 134a Gauge set and getting a good reading low at 35-40 and high side around 200. 39 degrees just beyond the shaded area on my large dial A/C thermometer in the center duct. I also have AC dye in the system I put in back in May. The funny thing is the Freon doesn’t run completely out of my Compressor ever since I have had the car the last 10 years. It always just needs a 12oz can to do the trick. The only place I can see the dye is at the compressor. The whole compressor lights up and glows from underneath the car with the UV light shining on it. No where else do I see any leaks that I could pick up.

      ffas23 sounds like you got your bases covered and know what you’re doing. I find that when I try to find leaks with dyes in it, I try to catch it early before it gets out of hand to locate so if you don’t mind me suggesting I believe maybe clean compressor area thoroughly one more time and only run a/c for a day and recheck, sounds like maybe a front seal leak and blowing back the dye mess you see completely underneath?

    Nice i did what you said to add to the description i have a 98 vet and used a 18mm on the motor mount from the frame wheel well view and only turned the nut 2 whole times than while the car was jacked up put another jack with a block under the oil pan and a little under the exhaust to take some pressure off the aluminum oil pan and literally lifted about an inch and a half and after removing the radiator fan and all between was able to manipulate the compressor in and the new one out thanks for the vid

      bruno937 How did you make out with your C5 Compressor? Just curious why you felt the need to replace it? I ask because I believe my C5’s compressor is leaking at the casting of the compressor but not 100% sure as of yet.

    Dumb question...after you loosened the nut for motor mount....how did you raise the engine...or where did you put the floor jack to raise it up.

    • @1KingEdward1
      @1KingEdward1  6 лет назад +2

      No question is dumb! Just get you a piece of wood block and put it between the Jack and the center of the oil pan, be sure not to crush any lines or the oil pan itself.

    Did you have to loosen the other motor mount also on the driver side? I just ordered a Compressor for mine and should be doing this job soon.

    • @1KingEdward1
      @1KingEdward1  4 года назад +1

      ffas23 Hey no need to loosen driver side, You only need to Jack the passenger side up about an inch

      ASE Mechanic Ed B That had to be the quickest response I ever got on You Tube. Thanks I just wanted to be sure. Should have that new compressor some time next week. When I finally get to do the job I will report back here on it.

      ASE Mechanic Ed B Its been so hot and humid I still didn’t get to this job yet. One more question if you don’t mine. How did you get to that top nut on the passenger side motor mount? I am guessing you must of already unbolted the 4 bolts on the compressor and the back manifold to compressor next and moved the compressor enough to get a wrench in there to loosen it. I am not familiar with this time of motor mount only the old style GM motor mounts of the past. Wouldn’t it be easier to take the bottom nut off of the motor mount stud and then put a block of wood and a floor jack under the passenger side of the oil pan and start jacking the motor up for clearance to get the compressor out. Maybe I have been thinking about this job too much. It was so hot and humid out there the last few days it was hard to even breathe out there.

      ffas23 Hey, I can definitely understand that. I used a 1/2 drive extension with swivel impact socket as well

    • @ffas23
      @ffas23 4 года назад +1

      Austin ASE Mobile Mechanics wouldn’t just taking the bottom nut off of the motor mount accomplish the same thing when jacking up the motor?

    Just curious why you needed to replace your A/C Compressor. I have a Black ‘99 C5 Coupe with original 37k miles on it. I don’t drive it very much but every year I need to add 1 can of R134A Refrigerant to it. I checked for A/C leaks but can’t see any but the compressor leaks what looks to be compressor oil. Can’t see where I t is coming from. Doesn’t look like it is coming out of the front of the compressor. Was thinking about replacing the compressor but to be honest with you adding 1 can of Freon a year is a lot easier of a job. The oil leak seems to be minor. I see no big accumulation on the floor over a years time. Knowing cars as well as I do I know compressor oil is important. I could add a little compressor oil at any time from a can also which I believe is about 2 ounces. Just curious what was going on with your compressor before you changed it out. Great video but the way. Enjoyed watching it. Very informative.

      ASE Mechanic Ed B Oh ok I didn’t realize you were doing a job for someone else here. Since I posted I did some research. According to what I read on the Corvette Forum someone said these C5 Compressors develop leaks in the casting along a seam. I am still not sure where my leak is coming from and I put some Dye in the A/C system. The only place that I see the dye glowing with the UV light shining on it is the complete compressor telling me maybe the casting is slowly leaking it out. I see what looks to be red oil right below the compressor on the Cars spring. The Dye is actually red in color from what I saw coming out of the can.
