    Many years from now, when I am old. I will not tell my grandchildren stories of fairy tales, but rather of hero's. Hero's who wear the uniform, who give their lives to ensure our way of life continues. Selfless acts of bravery, patriotism, honour. A thousand thank you's is not enough. I am proud to call myself Canadian. I am proud to say I support the troops.
    Real super hero's don't have capes, have super powers. They dawn camouflage, go into the dark places where things go bump in the night, so they can shed a light and give hope to this world.
    My door is always open for any member of the forces. My dinner table will always have an extra seat, and my heart has reserved the best part of it for our soldiers both serving and retired as well as those that have yet to serve.
    Thank you so much for everything you have done for our country and the people who call it home. Thank you.

      One " like" per year tells me that you're out there in camo, in dark places , where things go from quiet, to bump and bang in a heartbeat in the night. Thank you sir for your service.

    I was Garrett Chidleys escort (that's the person that bring his body home).I was with him in Afghanistan, in the vehicle with his body down the highway of hero's and I also lived with him in Shilo at the time. I'm always bothered by the deaths of these guys. I remember the last thing I said to Garret.

    Hello everybody and many thanks for taking the time to watch my video. A couple of years ago I redid the video with the corrected spelling of Michelle Lang's profession, a reporter, and removed the glitch from the soundtrack. Try as I might, I couldn't post the corrected version of the video as RUclips said the video already existed and wouldn't allow the second "copy". Recently, for some reason, RUclips has allowed me to go public with the corrected version. There's not much different but if you get a chance, please check it out and thank you for watching. It's on my RUclips channel, Railvidoer.

    In a world full of controversy and illusive peace-talks, I'm glad that there is still one nation left who has the decensy to honor their lost loved in such a way as portrayed in this video. Absolutely amazing.
    Canada must be a very proud nation. Her citizens honoring the fallen in battle, by showing their respect and by just 'being there' when the deceased and their families come passing by.
    Canada, I salute you.

    Hi Railvidoer . Thanks for your reply It was nice to hear that your grandfather was from Ireland and he was a solider from Ireland who served his country during war times . You must be proud of your family heritage. My father was the first N.C.O to be commissioned to the rank of Lieutenant from N.Ireland He served in the 2nd world war in India . My Late brother served in the 4th Light Regiment Royal Artilary . the only action he scene was in Borneo. I myself served in the Ulster Defence Regiment ( not to be confused with the U.D.A a terrorist organisation ) I then served in the R.U.C. for 25yrs until I retired from service in 2002 I just feel a great a great sense of pride when I watch your moving tribute to the Cobourg Five . I have watched many other tributes through Cobourg but none move me as much as yours . God Bless you and keep you safe Andrew Jamison . { P.S. the way things are looking it may not be to long before we are welcoming back more fallen comrades. )

      andrew jamison Thanks for your kind comments and words. You have a very interesting military family history. Grandpa was from Leinster and met the love of his life, my grandmother who was from Delgany, just south of Dublin. She was a nurse at the Rotunda Hospital and they were wed at Christ Church, Delgany. Grandma specialized in midwifery. Her sister, also a nurse, looked after Queen Victoria and other members of the Royal Family at Sandringham. After his 2 years in South Africa and return to Canada, grandpa travelled from Canada to Ireland to marry grandma and bring her to Canada. He rose to the rank of RSM and was twice offered a commission but refused as he was more comfortable with his men. My mom had 3 brothers who went overseas during WWII. All joined the Princess of Whales Own Regiment (PWOR). The eldest was a cook who spent much of the war in England. The 2nd oldest fought in the Canadian Italian Campaign and Western Europe while the youngest was in the 1st wave on Juno Beach on D-Day and helped liberate Holland. They all came back, thank God. The majority of Canadian ground troops are home from the Middle East but the Royal Canadian Air Force has 6 CF18 Hornets and 600 support personnel over there conducting raids on ISIS strongholds in Syria. God bless them.

And many thanks & gratitude to the many people of Cobourg who stood on the bridges on the highway of heroes to welcome those brave soldiers home and paticulary to the memory of Michelle Lang the female journalist who died with them . God bless you Canada for your brave support . I am not a solider but a retired policeman from northern Ireland who has seen many comrades buried in their fight for a free country . The bridges / overpasses are maybe the 'coolest' thing. There are dozens of them along the length of the Highway of Heroes, and it is regular everyday folk that fill them all along the way... for every single fallen soldier.
    The family of the fallen soldier is often in the parade of vehicles. We know when one is coming because the 2-4 lanes of traffic are closed.
    The Highway of Heroes has signs all its length. It is 175 km long and stretches from Canadian Forces Base Trenton to the morgue in Toronto.
    In the end, a very, very small gesture, and really not all that hard to organize and respect. Thank you, fallen heroes. It may also help the fmailies in some small way. I hope it does.

    One thing we do in the USA which I noticed was not being done by our Northern counterparts was that when a funeral procession is going down a divided highway, the other side has the common courtesy of stopping until the procession has totally passed by. This I did not see. As a retired US service member, it shows respect for the fallen party. Something to think about whenever you see a funeral procession coming through, instead of let me get to where I want to be.

    • @rescyou
      @rescyou 9 лет назад

      ahgfl007 You have the ignorance and arrogance to come here and give Canadians shit for the way they treat their fallen? The Canadians respect their fallen 10000% more than they do in the U.S., the "Highway of Heroes" is testament to that.

    • @railvidoer
      @railvidoer  9 лет назад +4

      ahgfl007 Are you serious? This is the busiest highway on the planet and on a bend you think cars are going to react quickly enough to stop for a motorcade doing 75 miles per hour. It's also the busiest truck route on the planet so imagine an 18-wheeler running up you ass and over you. Canadians are every bit as thoughtful as Americans, service member or not and in our cities and towns most people stop for a funeral procession going by and it doesn't have to be for a fallen hero.

    • @ahgfl007
      @ahgfl007 9 лет назад

      Well we don't have as much traffic as you have, but here in NW Florida where I am it's the largest Air Force base in the world Eglin AFB which is 625 land based and water ranges to Key West. There are these units attached to the base: [US Army Ranger field 6; US Navy EOD School field 2; NASA; 2 Navy bases on the western fields 7 and 8 end of the base, and Hurlburt AFB field 9 on Eglin, fields 3, 4, 5 are for all types of testing of ordanience]. You'd have to be around Miami, Tampa, Orlando or Jacksonville to find real traffic. Also our speed limit is 70 MPH so if you go much over that be very wary of air craft of other radar devices the the FHP uses.

    • @railvidoer
      @railvidoer  9 лет назад +1

      ahgfl007 That military base is both amazing and impressive! The speed limit on 401, the highway in the video, is 100 km/hr but those motorcades whiz right along at 75. It is aircraft patrolled also as well as radar in the OPP cruisers. We are an hour east of Toronto and to go through that city at any time of day is a nightmare. It is in the top 5 most liveable cities in the world and would probably be 1 or 2 if it wasn't for the traffic.

    • @ahgfl007
      @ahgfl007 9 лет назад

      I'm 350 miles from Jacksonville, FL, going South and slightly West to Orlando it is 525 miles, and 550 to Tampa. While it is 650 to Miami from me and almost 800 miles to Key West the furtherest South you can go in Florida. From Pensacola about 35 miles West of me to Jacksonville is 385 miles straight across I-10. I live on what is commonly called the panhandle of the state.

    Yeah, I did the video - video maker, who do you think did it, the same guy who answered your query last week about the music. I have redone the video twice now and RUclips, in its infinite wisdom, will not allow the corrected video as they say this video already exists. I have changed the name and description and still logo. I have tried to contact somebody at RUclips to ask them to allow the amended video to air with no luck. So, zappan, if you can tell me who to contact, I will be happy to upload the amended video. By the way, yours is the second complaint out of over 125,000 views, Thank Goodness most people see this video for what is meant than to criticize it.

    What is a ''repoter'' ? If you take the time to do such a tribute, take at least the time to make sure there's no mistakes in it! Lack of respect by not double-checking it before putting it online! I salute these 5 people and may they rest in peace! My prayers are with their famillies!

    Thank you for this video. Very touching. God bless them.
    A unrelated question:
    If convenient, may I know the name of the music starting at 0:54?

      ***** The music used for this video is from the Corel Royalty Free music set published about 18 years ago. It consisted of 10 CDs and it has served me very well over the years as I can find a piece of music to suit virtually any situation. More than one person has suggested it was music by Ennio Morricone which it is not.

      ***** you are very much correct Belfastchild we here in N.Ire. do not give as much as our Canadians friends to our brave fallen . This video of the homecoming of the 4 fallen soliders and michelle Lang through the highway of heroes is the most heartfelt sadness & warming tribute to fallen comrades heroes I have ever had the privellige to view . Both myself & my brother were PRIVILEGED in being also invited to a repatriation of a member of the C.D.F. whom we served with in the Sandpit. Chances also are that we walked on the same tarmac as yourself As my Brother & I were served on many trips with op corporate. I wont say it was a mutually respectfully co existence as your guys would take every opportunity in waiving pay slips in our faces stating that "we " were not wanted in Ireland. In those days I wore a Maroon lid so "we " were hated by the Players ( Paddies) as well as you lot. Besbrook mill ( the mill) South Tyrone Sanger, Lwr Falls Rd, Divis Flats ( The block) All bring back memories of """Community policing """ ( Not) by the RUC.
      I have been after this music for a long time & still dont know what it is called. The Canadians were gents to serve with. The Ai could be our equivalent of the Highway for Heroes. Instaid the Govt just issue us with P45 whilst "Still" in the sandpit. Highway for heroes UK.
      If you are the Guy I "Think" you may be... Your Brother had just joined the RUC. Tell him he can Pick up his warrant card Badge from a certain "little" outfit based in Wales.
      Are you "still" living there. & Before you ask Our parents came from Derry. So you "may " know who I am Now. !!!???

    I HAVE WATCHED THIS SAD STORY ON MANY OCCASSIONS BUT AS SOMEONE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW FROM SOMEONE ? WHAT HAPPENS TO THE CORTEGE WHEN IT PASSES THROUGH THE HIGHWAY OF HEROES AND TO ALL THE RELATIVES WHO FOLLOW IT ? . Andrew Jamison N.Ireland

    • @railvidoer

      andrew jamison The cortege travels from Canadian Forces Base Trenton to the Ontario Coroners Office in Toronto. From there the families accompany their loved ones to their respective hometowns where they are honoured locally and interred. The distances are great in many cases: from Toronto to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia is 1,000 miles, to Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta - both well over 2,000 miles. The shortest distance for any of these people would be to Cambridge, Ontario, just an hour west of Toronto.

      railvidoer Many thanks for that information railvidoer . God what a sad journey for all those grieving relatives . But it is great to see the people of Canada showing their share in the grief . Bless you all for the great honour you have given your fallen heroes. ANDREW JAMISON , BANGOR N. IRELAND

      andrew jamison I don't solicit my videos but have you watched 108 Heroes on my RAILVIDOER page? I made 108 Heroes 6 years ago just after the 108th Canadian fell. My grandparents came to Canada from Ireland and before my paternal grandfather left, he joined the Leinster Regiment at Dublin, transferred to the Canadian Army to fight in the Boer War, made it back to Canada and went overseas again during WWI fighting in many major battles. He came home, thank God, and his 2 favourite songs were 'O Canada' and 'The Maple Leaf Forever' which are both played in 108 Heroes.

    @jimmiandfunny They gave their lives for their country. Disagree with the mission, disagree with the reason they are there, but they died in service of their Nation.
