Mike Barry Bees
St. Joseph Abbey
It's always fun when I get to help Mike Barry do his one bee removal a year as I know it will be an adventure. And this time, as has always been the case, it did not disappoint. If you enjoyed this video, check out the links below where Mike and I removed bees together in the past. Thanks for watching. God's peace to all.
Mr. Ed
• WOW, a 40 pound slab o...
• Eight foot long beehiv...
• Monster bee hive remov...
When I was made aware of the 🐝 on the back side of the house, my only concern was not to harm them. My son was the first to find them, because a few and gotten in the house through a small hole. The guys explained to me how and why they got in the house. However, this was such an awesome experience, and I learned a lot about 🐝. I enjoyed you all and thank you once again!!!!!!
I like how you wait until you're done with good cut out and halfway through a Chinese buffet before you let me find out this is going on. And the only reason I found out is Mike leaked it. What good friends!
That Mike Barry is some kind of friend. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
What a beautiful hive! I’m glad Mr. Barry picked this one to be his one hive of the year! What a great tag team, thanks for sharing and taking us along :)
Did you video when you found the Queen? Mr. Barry texted me later that evening letting me know you had vacuumed her. THANK GOD SHE IS SAFE!!!!🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
Yes I did, it is at the very end of the video. Your bees are VERY happy here at the abbey. Thanks for watching. God's peace Cindy.
Mr. Ed
What a gorgeous hive and brood pattern! I always feel bad to cut into that. We just removed one that was easily a five footer between floor joists. I didn't see the queen but she was vacuumed. I'm sure yours is in there. Thank you for sharing. Great video! Good luck with them!
Beautiful hive. Glad you got the queen. Have a great weekend, Mr Ed😊💕
Thank you for putting out your videos and brightening my day! I love your positive attitude and I am starting my journey into beekeeping using diy-built, top frame hives.
Jeff I broke my hip and had surgery 3 weeks ago. I have been in rehab and got home today. Please pray for my recovery in full. GBY> JJ
So very sorry to hear that Joyce, I will be praying for a complete, and speedily recovery for you. God's peace sister.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff hOME IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET WELL.
Thank goodness you found the queen and what a healthy queen she looks to be.
The colony looked beautiful as you were exposing it. I really hope that they thrive at the Abbey.
I have all kinds of white clover blooming right now. The holly tree across the street from be just finished it bloom. The crepe myrtles will be coming into bloom soon. The azaleas are blooming like crazy here too.
I don't have any bee boxes, but I do love watching the bees flitting from flower to flower collecting nectar and pollen.
Thank you for a wonderful bee wrangling session. God be with you.
I love watching these videos but the freezing the frames drives me nuts. They can get the same pics by not freezing the frames and pausing the video and screen grabbing the pic.
If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans!
Hey its the RUclipss
x3 Bee -Amegoes !🎉
Hope your Flow returns soon as your wacky weather issues killing your early Nectar.

Happy Beekeeping 2023

Here in Scotland 🏴 the Nectar is pouring in ! What a Spring Flow we are having. Everything is Blooming its Socks off.
Bees so busy almost busting at the Bee Seams. 🤭
Did x4 Splits. Think more are pending ! Now, what can I make into a temporary Deep Brood ?
Nearly all out of Boxes. Even the Beek Suppliers are low on kit. 🙄
Happy to see you all together. Thank you Jeff.
you have got to be the happiest man I've ever witnessed lol, the love, respect, and good energy you show your friends is invaluable! God definitely is blessing you ~
Thank you so very much for your kind words and taking the time to watch the video it is greatly appreciated. Also, I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
How about doing a video on your vacuum system, looks like you are using a better hose than what comes on a vacuum
I have done one in the past, the video link below. It is one of my most requested videos. Thanks for asking and for watching. God's peace Ron.

23:43 -- Persistence pays !
Lord almighty that was a lot of them ladies hard at work!!!
And we got their momma so all is good. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Mr Ed, I was betting you already had that Queen before you were talking about breaking out the Honey Bandit. After all there were so many bees and all it takes is to have foggy glasses or to glance away for a split second at “The World Famous Mike Barry”. The flow at my place is similar (not much) and my friend about 15 miles away has had and harvested a decent early amount. Maybe our Lord feels we didn’t thank him enough last year for the bountiful harvest he gave us then, I know I didn’t and can never thank him enough for what he’s given me! God is in control!
I LOVE your videos!!! 💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏
Thank you! Keep on watching, and remember, I post a brand new video every Friday. Until the next one, God's peace Krissa Ann.
Mr. Ed
Jeff why are you called Mr Ed.
The name "Mr. Ed" was given to me the day I began working at the Post Office back in '82. Then, for the next 27 years while working at the PO, that is what everyone called me. When I started my RUclips channel, because I loved the name so much, I decided to call myself that. Thanks for watching. God's peace David.
Mr. Ed
Another great video! Glad you found the queen in the end. I love watching you rescue the bees. 💞🐝 💞🐝 What I keep wondering is: Now how does the homeowner make sure that more bees don't get into that space in the future? Maybe fill it up with sprayfoam insulation?
The space does need to be filled with insulation, what type is up to the owner, and then all openings in the area need to be sealed off as well. Thanks for watching, Until the next one, God's peace Cheryl.
Mr. Ed
I know you've probably answered this elsewhere Jeff, but using a bee vac what would you say the mortality rate is?
Looks like it was a fun time. Strangely enough when this video was posted I was getting a spicy hive from Richmond. Even with a suit I got about 20-25 stings. It was real, and it was fun, just not real fun. Still haven't found the queen in that hive though.
I sure hope the hive we do won't be a hot one. See you real soon Jeremy. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I'll know that, hopefully this weekend. Going to go check them out and see what's what.
My sister just helped me clear out a MASSIVE africanized hive from a very old, ornamental outhouse... filled the vac box, twice... easily over 70.000 bees, could have been as many as 100.000... they just kept coming...
WOW! I would have loved to have helped on that one. Hats off to you and your sister. That is a LOT of bees. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
I thought you would have a throne for the WFMB to officiate from. What a treat to see him get right in there and work alongside you.
He deserves a throne. Thanks for watching. God's peace Angela.
Mr. Ed
Ah 25 c...the thingy was set to the wrong temperature , it was set to "Fahrenheid" ...Nobody ever uses that..
Right, who ever uses Fahrenheit? God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Look at 11min 23second. You can clearly see the qeen.
I did go back and look, butI did not see her. Thanks for watching. God's peace Ronnie.
Mr. Ed
Love that you are always smiling and happy!
My faith is the source of my happiness, and it just keeps the smile on my face. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Cyanna.
Mr. Ed
Hey Mr. Ed! So I was trying to figure out how many layers would usually go in a stud space? I guess you'd say it's going to be 3 and 1/2 in deep. So if we figure one and a half inches center to center for comb building, That wouldn't leave us room for two full layers and a little more. In your experience, how many layers have you usually found in walls?
I guess I should learn to watch the whole video before commenting, so now I see two layers filling the stud space. Wow, I'm seeing a very vital colony making for this excellent cut out. As Ormond Aebi might have described it: "a splendid spring colony."
What happened to Wreck it Ralph? I was thinking about him the other day. You shot this video on my mom and dad's anniversary.
Ralph is camping weekends and during the week has a regular job so he is not able to make as many bee wrangling adventures. Congratulations to your mom and dad! Thanks for watching. God's peace Shawna.
Mr. Ed
Hi Mr Ed and clan I think iv seen almost all of your videos god bless
I think you have too, thank you Nola. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Im wondering your name " mr ed" did you name yourself after ~the horse ~? 🐴
Yes, it is in reference to the horse. The name "Mr. Ed" was given to me the day I began working at the Post Office back in '82. Then, for the next 27 years while working at the PO, that is what everyone called me. When I started my RUclips channel, because I loved the name so much, I decided to call myself that. Thanks for watching. God's peace Ziree.
Mr. Ed
Another master class, great video!! G'day from down under Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Happy Friday! Have a good Memorial Day !
World 🌎 famous. You guys are to funny 😂
He is World Famous Mike Barry, and I'm so honored he would even speak to me. God's peace Brian.
Mr. Ed
Unreal we should all have 10 foot hives. Lol I bet the dirt rooster bottom lip dropped 3 ins when he sees that one lol . Like grand said ya can get lucky .
Always a pleasure to be part of your shinanigans. Thanks again for sharing.
Oooooooo, man we can make some ROCKET fuel with that honey! 😱😁👍👍🇺🇲
I watch you before I work my ladies:) you really help calm me down ❤thanks Jeff!
Thanks for having akind heart. You direct us to other channels even. You're a great person... stay blessed
Another great collab. And what a super hive. Love all the banter. Love all these feel good videos.
Finished watching Mikes take. Your turn. He didn't show you in the grass
If the Dirt Rooster was there, you would have found the Queen... lol
Wow, that Mike Barry is tall!
And I'm pretty short, it's a good combo. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Beautiful Comb.
The "slab" formation of comb is my favorite one to see. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
This spring season I am already exhausted with cut outs and swarm removals, I haven’t been busy like this year, I totally understand how tired you are
I'm trying to figure out who your trying to convince the most us or yourself on getting the queen since you've repeated it like 10 times!! Lol 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😘🥰🥰🥰 hope you know I'm just giving you a hard time Mr Ed.
Of all things an Oriole singing in the background as you open the hive, sweet and nice removal always nice to watch!
Glad to bee back with you, Mr. Ed, & your bee-lieving buddies.
I just have to say though, at first blush, this appears to bee some of the thickest comb I've ever seen!
I really miss Raff!
Poor Ralph has a full time job and can't be on many of the videos. Now, he has a camper and goes camping on many weekends, but he still will go wrangling with us when it fits his schedule. Stay tuned, I have one coming up with Wreck It Ralph. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
What a beautiful hive!!
Do you guys charge for removals??
How much would it cost? that’s a lot of work!! 😮
A beautiful hive for sure, and the bees were very gentle as well. Often I ask for a donation to do the work we do to help defray the cost of doing the removal, but in this case, not even that was asked. A professional bee removal cost can range from $300.00 to $600.00 depending on the difficulty of the removal. And if it is very difficult, the charge could be upwards of one thousand dollars. Expensive, yes, but a lot of work as you said. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Kasie.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I love all your videos!!! I have learned so much from your channel and it’s so interesting to me! I never miss an upload and have joined you on your lives quite a few times, I am in Australia 🇦🇺
I love watching the cheeky banter with Ralph, Charlie, hoolio and the Rooster! 😂😂
You guys have inspired me to get my own bees one day 🤗
When we bought our home 10 years ago there was an old bungalow out the back and we noticed very quickly that there was a beehive in the outside wall because if anyone went past it they went nuts and I tried to leave them alone cause I didn’t want them exterminated but they got worse and my nephews and nieces got chased and stung a fair few times and they had to go, I called the council and they said to call the pest guy and he came out and sprayed the hive and they were all killed 😢 I had no idea at that time that a removal was even a possibility so every-time I watch one of your videos the guilt eats me alive! 😢😢 so I’ve decided to make it up to Mother Nature and get myself some girls to look after!
Just read a story about the patron saint of my church, St. Rita of Cascia. After reading about St. Rita's relation to bees I immediately thought of you. Is there a patron saint of beekeepers? If not St. Rita would make a good one.
As the Feast Day of St. Rita was just celebrated, May 22, I am very familiar with her life story. However, any connection to bees is not known to me. There are 4 patron saints to beekeepers:
St. Ambrose, St. Abigail, St. Bernard, and St. Valentine.
As one one the monks that once lived here at St. Joseph was Father Ambrose, and he was a very dear friend of mine, I chose the name of Ambrose for the name of our honey house. Thanks for watching.God's peace Michael.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I would like to send you a something that my church passed out on St. Rita's feast day. May I have your address. After my initial message I googled patron saints for bees. it was interesting to see St. Valentines.
Beautiful hive Mr Ed. Hope all is well sir
Commented to early as I was watching that was a beautiful hive I'm so glad you found queen at the end 😅beautiful hive 5 hours hot humid yuck thanks for sharing all your work so kool to watch will mr ed good time Charlie Mike Barry mr famous God bless till next video kept on wrangling my friend 😊
Got my early morning buzz with my coffee! Gonna 🐝 a great day!
Why the fast speed….
The video is long enough and fast speed allows you to see the entire process without spending all the time. Thanks for watching. God's peace Ed.
Mr. Ed
When Jeff was laying on the grass Good Time Charly should of shouted "OMG ANOTHER QUEEN BEE" he would of got up like a rocket hahaha The Surprise at the very end was awesome! You got her Jeff!
In all these videos, I am curious why y'all don't keep a queen cage clipped to your suit?
I have done that, but often they fall off. Now, I keep it in the jacket pocket. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff here’s a shirt design idea, a magnet in the pocket or shoulder area and a queen clip with piece of metal. Farrier’s have something like that in their chaps to keep the hood knife handy. Or Velcro, sew the loop half to the shirt and stick hook side to the queen cage..
Thank you Jesus! Phew!!!
You guys are the best. God bless.
That last peace of comb you pulled out had the qeen on it. Go back and look. The last comb on the back side.
Sorry, but I still did not see her. God's peace Ronnie.
Mr. Ed
I wish someone else would look to eather confirm or debunk my claim lol. Now I feel like I'm crazy. I have looked over the video again and I would swear I see the qeen. She is a dark girl. Looks very healthy to me but im just a newbie. I only have 2 hives. I love your channel though. It's very informative and your personality is wonderful. You make me smile the hole time.
Great way to start my day. Enjoyed your video.
That was a lot of bees! Thanks for another interesting video. Have a good weekend Jeff.
Now that is really cool
Now that a nice set of bees god bless
Glad yall and Mike got together. Missed Ralph to round it all out but we can't have everything. Glad that the queen has been found too. So ALL Yall have a Jesus weekend and keep on wrangling! Us in the hills!
That’s amazing!
Great video as always Mr Ed and Good time Charlie and co-stared by Mike. Looking forward to meeting you guys at Hive Life 2024! God Bless!

Outstanding video. Always educational with a nice bit of humor. Thanks guys. 👍🇺🇸👊👏🏻. Honey is a great product of Mother Nature. God knows what he’s doing.
That was a beautiful "hive". Enjoyed the video....as always!!!!
Great job guys, glad you found the queen, keep making more, God bless you all..
Have a great weekend Jeff, I added a 2nd deep to my hive a couple days ago. God bless, your videos always make my day. 👍
Big beautiful hive. Hope your flow is big. The bees are ready. Glad you found the queen. Thanks. Take care. God bless.
Hello Ed Charlie and Mike . They are mighty calm for this time of year.
Great to see @MikeBarryBees in there with you! What an awesome hive. I noticed too, no resources, no drone brood. Hmmmm... Soon!!! -Jeff and Diane
What an awesome hive this one was, AND to be able to work alongside World Famous Mike Barry, a really good day. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Good time Charlie Jeff & Mike, isn’t curious that the majority of wild swarms off bees always work from above top to bottom while we keep our bees frames hives with entrance from under, what can we learn from this?
The reason feral bees work from top to bottom in structures other than frames is the comb has to be attached suspended down to support the comb. On frames, it matters not where the bees start as the comb is already supported no matter where they begin. Thanks for watching. God's peace Benjamin.
Mr. Ed
Amazing to see the way the brood was organized. Beautiful colony; too bad they moved into a building.
Actually, I'm glad they moved into a structure that I could relocate them to the abbey, these bees have some very good genetics and I grateful to have them in our apiary. Thanks for watching. God's peace William.
Mr. Ed
Yall are so cool I wanna become a Bee Keeper someday :D 🐝
I certainly hope you will pursue your dream, the world needs as many beekeepers as it can get. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Wow, those massive slabs are amazing, you can clearly see the bands. Just a question, why do you put the comb top side down?
That way when I frame it up I know which way is the top of the comb. Also, andy honey will run down and not over the brood. Thanks for watching. God's peace Kennith.
Mr. Ed
Just to let you know. Here in deep east Texas just across the lake from Many, La. Our flow is exactly like ya'lls. The Tallow flow is just now starting. Only about 20-25% of the tassels are mature. Thanks for what you do
What a terrible honey harvest we are going to have this year, but the good news is the bees are doing fantastic. I'm just hoping they will gather enough nectar so I won't have to feed them this winter. By the way, from Monday till Friday I will be in your neck of the woods, we will be fishing Toledo Bend from Many. I'm looking forward to catching some fish. Thanks for watching. God's peace Cindy.
Mr. Ed
If these bees were ready to swarm, what would prevent them from swarming at the Abbey? Would you split them?
Relocating bees stresses them, and that stress almost always removes the desire of the bees to swarm. Thanks for watching.God's peace Larry.
Mr. Ed
Why do you keep freezing the picture it's so annoying
It's to give everyone a second chance to see the handy work of bees. Almost all beekeepers are interested in brood patterns and the make up of the comb. Thanks for bearing with the annoying parts and for watching. God's peace Santo.
Mr. Ed
Another great video, thanks Mr. Ed. I know why Charlie got hungry, those honeycomb slabs looked like pizza slabs.
Congratulations and thanks for keeping the real thing Jesus in finding the queen and thanks world famous Mike too
Thank You Jesus!!! I knew you must have vacuumed her (queen) up. She is a beautiful specimen too. Keep us posted. Love the video. Thanks guys.
Hey Jeff, what model Fler do you use?
It's a 15-TG 165 I've been having it for about 3 or 4 years now and it has never given me a problem. I never leave home without it. God's peace Curt.
Mr. Ed
Great video, love watching all 3 of y'all, have a Blessed day!
seems there been more drama in Jeffs life recently.
I seen 2 videos with no queen.
RUclips did not show Jeffs videos for like 9 months EVEN though I am subscribing.
But last 1 - 2 months they are shown again.
There are many who tell me about not receiving notifications anymore even though they are subscribed. I don't know what to say about that, but , I still post a video every Friday and will continue to do so. Glad to have you watching again. God's peace .
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I see, every Friday, so youtube thinks I seen enough of you, which is impossible, a happy guy, with a beard, and a ton of experience. And youtube still do not notify me of all. Not if you say every Friday with Ralf and the rest of the team.
So maybe youtube only show me the videos others up-voted. Not sure how everything works inside youtube.
If you look at the picture he looks like Jesus on the cross, "why have yo abandoned me father" ....
Always makes me happy when you find the Queen🙂
This bee harvest is so impressive, this is so beautiful to watch seeing nature at work .
T hi s is real television to see man and nature working together and not killing or damaging each other’s world.
I just love it.😮
Awesome! That’s so neat to see the slab comb like that.
Come on folks! Over 7000 views and only 800+ likes? This was an awesome video! If you waited until the very very end, Mr Ed did find the Queen! Thank you guys!
I'm always surprised when I see the view count and then look at the thumbs up, the discrepancy is mind blowing. I certainly hope that changes one day. Thank you so much for watching and giving the video a thumbs up. Until the next one, God's peace Patricia.
Mr. Ed
Nice colony
Looks like you have a new look there, nice. Thank you so very much for your gift, and as always, it is greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful weekend brother. God's peace Larry.
Mr. Ed
I don't know anything about a new look? But hope it's better 😊
Jeff, how often do you find the queen when you are doing a cut out?
I would say about 75% of the time I find her, 20% I vacuum her, and 5% I do not get her at all. Of course that's just an estimate. Thanks for watching. God's peace David.
Mr. Ed
Greetings from SW Oklahoma Jeff! Awesome video as always!
