As we are getting our first real push of cold air from the north, and our golden rod is all but played out, it can only mean one thing for me, it's time to bring in all our honey supers.
My method of maintaining a colony of bees, 3 deeps stacked on top of each other, 2 for brood boxes and one as the honey super, works great for me here in the deep south. However, come the end of October, when the Goldenrod is just about dried up signifying the end of our nectar flow, I'm wanting to bring in the honey supers, and get our hives situated to go through the winter with only 2 deeps on it. The other great thing about bringing in the third super is any honey that is in it I will process, and the blend of spring/fall honey is such a great tasting honey. The mixture of tallow, privit, and goldenrod honey is very unique, and I am very fond of it.
Over the course of 3 days, with the help of Good Time Charlie and Dr. Billy, we managed to bring in almost 90 supers with 18 of them containing enough honey for us to process. The video shows some of what we do as go through the boxes and then load them into the van. Of course, there are a few surprises on this video that you will just have to find out for yourself what they are. I hope you will enjoy this wrangling adventure. God's peace to all. Mr. Ed
PS As I announced in the video, I will be one of the many guest speaker at the upcoming LBA State Convention from December 5-7 in Pineville, La. along with my good buddies the 628 Dirt Rooster, and Schawee. I am looking forward to seeing many of you there.

Welcome aboard, thank you so much for your gift of subbing to my channel. The Rooster and I are great friends and we do a lot of trash talking each other on our respective channels, it's all part of the fun. The snakes at the end of this video have been used dozens of times over the years, and it just never gets old....at least for me. If you'd like to see the original video I made using them many different people, the link is below. By the way, I even got the Rooster with them as well. I'm looking forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace. Mr. Ed

My dad once saw a "bee" hive in our backyard and wanted to keep it there to "protect the bees". I told him it was a wasp nest, but he didn't believe me. All the hornets that appeared in our house a little while later proved me right! 😂

As much as I'd love to help out, I know no one in that area. I'm really disappointed that he could not get assistance from the local bee club, that would have been my suggestion. Tim Hoffman, a bee wrangler in central Fla and well know on RUclips and Facebook may be of help. You can find him pretty easily if you look on either one of those platforms. I wish your cousin well in trying to save the bees. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

Another awesome production from Studio 🐝. Beetle smash o rama. You are as OCD about those pesky beetles as I. That peacock pit is perfect. Lucky you have that. I harvested all my frames that looked like that. I had honey supers though, instead of deeps. A lot uncapped as well. I shook the uncapped frames to be sure nothing came out. The ones that shook out liquid I open fed back to them. That was a big hornet nest. Braver than I. lol. Thanks for the video.

You would think as winter approaches, our duties as bee keeper would slow down, not a chance. I did have a bunch of uncapped comb, but it was all solid. Stay tuned for the processing video next week, I just finished editing it. Trust me, even though I suspected it was abandoned, I was still nervous. Still, I thought if the Rooster could do it, I may as well try my hand at it. God's peace brother.

Jeff, I wanted to ask, if it's not too personal, what your diet is typically like?
You seem extremely robust, my father is in his 60s and we keep bees together but his health makes it extremely difficult. He is an aortic aneurysm survivor and has lost a kidney due to poor blood flow so there are some underlying conditions, but I just wanted to ask, as I am desperate to try anything to keep my old man around longer.

I'd get some chicks and chicken then shake the frame onto a screen/wire mesh small enough for the beetles to fall through but not the bees, shake the frames and the boxes, the bees will eventually go back to their respective hives, the chicks and chicken get to fiest on the beetles, let's not talk about what we can do with the chicken XD

56 is not chilly. My bees would be flying in balmy weather that warm. In the spring my bees fly above 40 on their pooping flights. They stay out buzzing around because they have been couped up so long. The snow gets messy, but I don't think Jeff sees that in a bee wonderland down south. Except he does deal with way more pests to bees than I, but I still treat for mites and watch for stupid wax moths. I hate nosema and foulbrood too. I only treat with oxalic because I want strong bees. Middle of march is spring here.

Sometimes the comb is used for bait in swarm traps, bees love old brood comb and are attracted to it. However, I simply recycle the wax and give it back to the bees. Check out the link below on that subject. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

    Brother Jeff,
Thanks for another treat from your apiary. I've already learned that if I'm patient enough...you'll answer some of the questions I have formed.....like pulling that third box. This being my first year, I only got two supers to harvest. I put them back on after extracting so the bees could clean them out. One have did that, picked it clean as a whistle. The other hive started filling it again! So, I thought fair enough, I'll leave it there as extra stores. But looking back, I wish I had pulled it off.....like you did in this video. I'd been better off to set this super out, let the bees rob it clean and then stored it, ready for the spring flow. Thanks for the great lesson. Have a blessed day.

Yep. It`s a good idea to try to only breed strong genetics and let the weak die off. Sometimes I`ll throw mustard green seeds around in out of the way places on my property. Some of the seeds grow into huge, healthy plants that survive cold better than others. I keep the seeds from plants like those to use the next year and so on.
Our local beekeeper didn`t sell honey this year. I saw some raw and unfiltered honey in a store by a Louisiana producer and bought that. It`s way way more expensive than what I normally get but I like supporting Louisiana businesses and getting REAL honey from the USA.

I just like bees and honey and probably wouldn`t try to make money from it. I could though because there`s a very popular little store up the road (the only store within 15 miles) that would let me sell honey there. I don`t care too much about money though. The winter fur is creeping all over your face again 😂 How many bee yards do you have? Bees are great at wrangling beetles. That was a pretty long rat snake. The observation hive😂 Hope Mom is doing well 😊

Every year when we get our first cool snap that is able to push down, I start growing my beard. this year I stopped shaving on September 29th. We have 8 yards spread over a 30 mile radius, 15 miles in any direction from the abbey. Bees were wrangling before cows, it's been documented. I have caught rat snakes over 6 feet long, this one was very average. Everyone loves the observation hive, except for the ones who get surprised by it. though afterwards, they love it too. Mom is very well, thank you for inquiring. Till the next time, God's peace.

I can’t help but chuckle at your being cold... your winter is warmer than our Summer! 😂😂😂. Today in Dublin, Southern Ireland we reached 7°, Mr Ed it’s so cold please could you send some of your lovely climate to us? 😂😂. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos, you do such great work. Also, I’ve been wondering about your life... are you married, got any kids and how is your mom? 👍😀☘️🇮🇪

I was born and raised in New Orleans where typically you get only about a week of winter the entire year. I'm just not built for the cold. I'd love to send you some of our weather, but the postage is just outrageous. I was married and have a daughter who is 32. Mom, who is 94, is a real tank, nothing gets her down. Thanks for your kind words and for watching. God's peace.
