What a voice , what a performance , she has become a national treasure .Nobody but nobody does it quite like this Dame .
I love the heaviness of the arrangement, it adds so much seriousness and drama and just gravitas to the song, and her voice fits so well with that

From the moment this girl goes on the stage, any stage; she owns it. Then when she starts to sing; there really is no way to describe what you feel. Shirley Bassey, for me; is the greatest entertainer in the world. The snippet here from Cardiff is great. If you get the chance to watch the DVD concert; it is only half of what she did that night. Like many others I was there. Thank you for your music Shirley; and the memories of all your concerts I saw.

Hello Everyone...just saw this for the first time...oh my goodness!!!!...her voice...this is such a powerful performance, so much so, that tears were falling from my eyes...such a powerful voice...thank you Beautiful Woman... thank you Dame Shirley Bassey
The wonderful thing about RUclips is that people so many times stumble on great vocalist/performers that they never knew before. Dame Shirley Bassey is a one-of-a-kind performer with exceptional vocal abilities, and she started back in 1953!! She is the only artists who has recorded more than one James Bond Theme Song soundtrack; Shirley has done three. And, in 2001 she was inducted into the Guinness Book of World records for being the largest selling female artist from the United Kingdom, and to this day that achievement has not been surpassed. Yes, even with Adele. Now in her 80's, Bassey still performs, appears on TV Shows, and attends many charity events. She still is a beautiful lady, and he voice has aged like fine wine! Her vibrant/high fidelity voice has changed over the decades, but what has remained is that it always has been magnificent, no matter what the decade. Courtney: You have a very good ear for music. Over the last 65+ years in the business Dame Shirley has been able to change up arrangements, and her vocal style to match the times. But, this can only happen for vocalists who have such abilities to adjust their vibrato, timber, and nuances to be able to pull it off. What has never changed from the 50's to the 2000's is her vocal perfection at all pitch levels within her substantial range, and her ability to hit and hold amazingly high fidelity notes. She started as a full soprano, but over the years after performing in smoke filled halls, she is not considered somewhere between alto and mezzo soprano, and can adjust it based on the song. Now in her 80's Dame Shirley can STILL hit and hold all the notes within both. An amazing accomplishment for her. Regards, Scot

Although Ive heard the Original 80's Classic more than a Thousand times...n have it imprinted in my Brain. In spite of that... I dunno why...but this Bond-ish styled Arrangement of hers keeps giving me Goosebumps every time I hear it. Dunno what it is, maybe its the arrangement or her signature powerful vocal mannerisms. Maybe its because she takes her time in the verses (opting to complete the phrase on the alternate line - ignoring the originals tempo). Whatever the reason, I love her rendition!!! :D :D
Take a look at Shirley's 1998 live version of this song; it's also great!! Dame Shirley Bassey is a very unique performer, and this is what makes her so special. She is very dramatic with hand, arm and eye motions as she sings, so she doesn't just sing the notes, she acts out the song giving real emotion to the performance. With that said, it wouldn't work unless a vocalist has the pipes to go with it. Bassey's vocal abilities are outstanding, and she has only gotten better with age. She is now 80 years old, and just take a look at her recent rendition of 'I Am What I Am' from her TV special that aired on December 24th, 2016. An incredible vocalist she is, STILL!

I have seen her 4 times live. She Always delivers. She doesn't play around with the song like Whitney Houston did when I saw her live in the UK 1990s. I suppose they are all good in there own zone. But Shirley Bassey'style I love.

Does anyone know if Dame Shirley Bassey will be in the U.S. for concerts?
ThreeMinutes: We all hope that Shirley will, once again, do a world tour. But, it's not easy to do world tours when you are approaching 80 years old. Today, she stays more close to home when performing live. In fact, I think she will be performing live in the UK with the Group Blake sometime this summer. With that said, Shirley probably has toured the world more times than just about any other vocalist. Over the decades, I've seen her in the USA at least a dozen times or more. In recent years, when she does come to the USA, Dame Shirley usually has performed in NYC. Regards, Scot
Yes, I totally understand her touring close to home. Even though I absolutely love her music, I've never seen her live in concert and so hope a USA tour comes to fruition. Shirley Bassey did it first. Not many people know that Foreigner covered this song after her.
Shirley always makes any song she performs her very own. This song is no exception. However, Mic Jones from the Foreigner Rock band wrote this song in 1984. The band recorded and released it in that year.

I've loved just about every song I've heard from Shirley, but damnnnn, this was awful!
Its just not her type of song at all.
I respectfully disagree. There is no 'type' of song suited for Shirley. She can sing the phone book and make it great. But, what many don't like is that the cover is performed different than the original hit. But, what a boring world it would be if only one person recorded or performed a song. Or, those who performed a cover did it exactly the same as the original hit. Bassey sings things her way, and in doing so makes it better as a cover. This is personally one of my favorite versions of this song.
