It was before Batman. This was 87, Sign O’ the Times. Boni Boyer was on keyboards, Rosie Gaines sang on Diamonds and Pearls. Yes, Dr. Fink was the guy on the keyboards.
This is off of Sing o' the Times, my favorite Prince album, and probably his best album, in my opinion. Back in the day, I played the hell out of it. Prince is one of those foundational, upper tier artists, so unique, so special he's got a shelf of his own. Epic.
Nobody has more talent or charisma than Prince. If you haven't reacted to this Prince performance 2011 you really should. It's the 3rd of 4 encores and he's doing Play that Funky Music/ Hollywood Swinging and Fantastic Voyage. It's guitar slaying and the usual Prince sexiness. ruclips.net/video/LNrAFb3I2js/видео.html
OH NO, this is short version, he climbs up on an amplifier and does a minutes long guitar solo. The Sign O' The Times studio album sounds different than this concert version which came out on VHS in 1987. This version is far superior and it is his greatest work
100%. That’s the case for most of Prince’s songs. Short versions and radio edits are a no-go. Full versions always. When Doves Cry is the best example of this. Never listen to the radio edit. Album version only 💜
This 87 Sign o the Times concert film , the lady on the keys is actually Bonnie Boyer who unfortunately also passed away a few years ago. That Rolling Stone was garbage your absolute it. The thing about Prince is that he was his own genre.
Nice reaction. This is actually 1987 - Sign of the Times. I like your take on guitar “rankings.” He was great. I don’t think lists are that meaningful. “Top” is usually pretty subjective. The keyboard player is Dr. Fink (yes from the Revolution). The woman on piano is actually Boni Boyer, who was actually on Lovesexy, one year after this. Batman actually came 2 years after this. Then, Rosie Gaines was the great vocalist on Diamonds and Pearls, although Boni did great.
You're correct about Rolling Stone magazine..Prince didn't like that he wasn't on the list..later that year he was inducted to the Rock&roll hall of fame..his guitar solo on My guitar gently weeps is his response to Rolling stone magazine..You guys should check it..

Saw him live twice Purple Rain 🌂 Tour Nassau Coliseum and with his all girl band 3rd Girl Blind at a small club here in Az not long before he passed and I was blown away both times. Sadly, this is a version, where one of his best soloing parts,is cut out of the video. I enjoyed a Sign of the Times concert in Utrecht, which recordings were used for the SOTT special edition box, last year.
This was his first album after disbanding The Revolution. For the next few years he would plug in different musicians and have them play what he wanted. A new band was created by the Kid in 1991 called NPG the New Power Generation. Of course everyone knows he was a multi-talented performer and musician. I can't imagine how good of a guitar player he would have been had he laser focused on just playing guitar. I mean I'm a little bias but there is no way he is not on a top 25 greatest guitarist. Shame on you rolling stone. I would like to recommend his performance from 2005 at the 36th NAACP Image Award where he was presented and awarded the Vanguard Award. You can thank me later 😎
Sheila GD E.!! Slamming outta the gate! I'm happy, tyvm. Doctor Fink, yup. Hadda have the movie on too. I wrote a pilot for the years ahead in '83, wot can I tell ya? soundtrax in here.
I've never heard this one before. Thanks for this! And... Ya, that was the "Doctor" :) . In case you want to watch a most charming recent interview with him look up "Rather Have the Story: Matt Fink = Dr Fink of Prince and the Revolution" here on YT. Cheers Guys
Oh... and since I'm on a roll now, also look up "Prince Full Concert Capitol Theatre" (about 1980 or 81). Fairly poor sound unfortunately, but the show is so raw and amazing it totally makes up for it ;)
Yeah this is one of my favorite Prince songs because the melody is so perfect. If you want a good laugh you should listen to Jordan Knight's, the guy from New Kids on the Block, cover of this song. I mean I'm not saying it's Puddle of Mudd covering About a Girl atrocious but it is very bad haha
