- What exactly is cremation and how does it work? What goes into the retort (the cremation chamber where the body is placed)? Learn about the legal cremation process in Virginia, what to expect when choosing cremation, and the process for assessing the cremains (the remains of the body).
Why Choose Cremation? That's a great question. Before you can answer that for yourself, you need to know the legal requirements for cremation in Virginia and learn more about the process.
Cremation is the combustion, vaporization, and oxidation of cadavers to basic chemical compounds, such as gases, ashes and mineral fragments retaining the appearance of dry bone. (Wikipedia)
Scattering your loved one’s cremated remains in a place that had special meaning to them can be a very healing experience. Whether it’s a mountain top, a favorite park, or at the beach, it’s important to choose a location that family will always have access to and where you have the necessary permission to scatter human remains. If you are unsure what permission (if any) is necessary, simply ask your funeral director. Laws in certain areas prohibit the scattering of cremains in many public places, often including lakes and rivers. Be sure to research the laws in your area in advance-or ask your funeral director- before choosing the spot to scatter your loved one’s cremated remains.

I like how he continues to say them like they are still a person even at the point their ashes are processed. Very professional and comfort for viewers who have lost a loved one that was cremated. Thank you for this video.
I was cremated here and must say it was absolutely satisfactory.
OK! Majd kipróbálom!😂
wait what?
Good thing I hadn't just taken a sip of my coffee, or I would have sprayed it across the room.
I don't mean to pry bit what do mean you were cremated here? When you'll be dead. Confused.
😂😂😂
His presentation skills are very impressive.
Very professional and straightforward without being frightening or indifferent. Thank you.
When I found out I had a rare form of leukemia, I paid for my cremation at that time. I gave kept them informed of such surgeries as the screws in my neck, prothsetic hip and femur as those have to be taken out first. I got it for $800 the price has gone up every year around $1000. Mine however will never go up. Because I am a veteran, one son gets a flag plus one will get the one that would cover a coffin from the armed forces. This was done to spare my sons having to deal with it all the expense.
God bless you and thank you for your service🙏💚💜
@@honeybee2356 you're welcome. Have a great Day.
Hi Kathy, I'm praying for you, such a wonderful mother. Thank you for your service.
@@Brind-amour thank you. Still going strong for 16 years. First stage of 3 and in full remission for 5 years. Still have to take one chemo pill every night.
Peace to you and your loved ones.
Awesome guy and representation. This is my first time watching a cremation. I lost my mom December 3 2019. I have my mom here with me at home. Where mom wanted to be.
I Could Feel Your Pain When I Read Your Comment. I'm So Sorry for Your Loss.
Sorry for your loss ❤
My deepest condolences to you for the loss of your beloved mother.
Watching in southern Indiana. This decision was recently made in my immediate family. Thank you for explaining this so thoroughly and ethically.
Very well done and professional!
Just got hired as a crematorium operator and I love it!
My mother was cremated and her cremains were spread and I have a memory urn but my most beloved momento is the tag mentioned here. It’s tarnished by the high heat but has her bone fragments in the numbers. Needless to say it is under protective care.
The safety steps are brilliant. I wish my funeral director could use these actions for peace of mind
in 2016, I had my husband cremated because that was his wish. They let me be alone with him as long as I needed, (not long) to say private farewells. I watched the man load his body (in a cardboard box) into the crematory. Then stayed a few mins. until the smoke began to billow out. I needed to feel I fulfilled my part of the marriage contract, and was there at the last function he requested. There! I had completed my contract. There's no smell. Actually, they had the rollup doors open and I could see it was a beautiful day. When I walked out, the Secretary said they don't get many family that care to watch. I think it was easier than watching a body be lowered into the ground. Days later, I got his ashes, (along with small metal pieces, they didn't filter through, e.g. dental screw implant, and metal button from his Levi's lol.
My condolences to you...take care..
What a lovely way to think of this procedure and watching your beloved’s last moments. ‘Until death us do part’. My condolences to you.
Am crying, but dear God why death 💔? My friend's father will be cremated, i feel the pain😢
Great presentation. Shows great knowledge of the total process.
When I did cremations in the mid-70's, we didn't have any of these procedures or forms. The funeral home or hospital delivered the deceased to our crematorium, and we performed the cremation within an hour.
Very professionally, explained.
Thanks for sharing this very informative video.
This is very informative and humble. I appreciate your video.
That man worded the situation nice
Good video. A lot of helpful information. Bed. Through this process several times. Every bit of info you are talking about is true.
I'm donating my body to science.
Burial is far to expensive and the thought of cremation scares the piss out of me
Melissa Wright they cremate you after they’re done with your body after they’re done with whatever they do. Maybe look at natural burial. It’s cheaper than traditional burial.
Mellissa, I too have signed up my whole body to a medical school, however, at the end of the day I have been informed that all my removed organs will accompany my body remains for cremation after examination and testing. Sorry for the graphics!

When my baby brother died at 30, I bawled my eyes out; at the viewing before cremation, it made things real.
When I saw his cremains it was losing him a second time; it fucking hurts! He was 30 years old.
What is the protocol if the individual has no known family/next of kin? And my other question is, is some of that paperwork done already if someone came from a hospital or health care facility already ?
I don't want a wake . I don't want a funeral . I don't want a memorial . I don't want a vigil .
Unnatural Barbaric & Disrespectful.
I agree.
very hard to watch but its truthfully honest..I just lost my precious soulmate to cardiac arrest 5 weeks ago..I'm lost without him we were together 20 years
cilla3636 so very sorry you lost your soulmate. I lost mine 25 years ago and we had only dated 6 months. Soulmates are deeply special.

Spot on lad cremation is vile
This was very good.my mom was creamated in the casket. Can that happen. As well
I just lost my husband a day after his birthday Jan 12 I didn't know how they created a person. My husband was created on Fri I thought the family had to be there. My church had a momorial for him.
Im sorry for your loss! :(
Cremated, not created. That's a different context. Sorry for your loss.
Patricia Johnson ...created is the beginning...cremated is the end...
you want to have as much time between the two, as possible...
Sorry for your loss. May your husband rest in peace
i was not aware that even a heart stent has to be removed before cremation.
very nice, I use this same machine daily.
Thanks for telling me. That my plan was not big on all the fire booming out like in the movies. I don't see any since in putting thousands and thousands of dollars in the ground and it rusting away in years to come.
hi interesting video as an taller ill young man im thinking of being cremated after iv passed wish to ask being just over 7ft tall can i be cremated still and if so will i go into an cremator as shown in video thanks ??
Thank you for educating me
Professional video well done
Just atended a funeral and cremation last week in Thailand budhist. After funeral, casket is opened in front of congragation flowers and offering are placed on body the wood casket is placed on gurney piled two high with coal 2.5 gallons of diesel fuel is poured on corpse it id rolled into kiln crematory and throw a match. Big inferno as there is a 75 foot chimney with draft door wide open.
Absolutely love this. I feel more at ease seeing this video. Thx for sharing.
Can the family already have an urn ? I have my own already (for myself)
Yes, definitely. The funeral home will do whatever you ask.
Yes if you don’t they put you in a small bag then the bag go in a box, my mom wanted to be cremated
I know I am going to be cremated my husband was buried my ashes will go in the grave with him my daughter and my son-in-law knows that I cannot see spending a lot of money when all I'm going to do is deteriorate slowly in the ground I couldn't see any other way I am leaving my money to my grandkids not to the funeral home
Going Natural Burial myself.
Was going with cremation, hate the thought of waking up in the middle of it though..
Rst28 but you’d be nice and warm.
True, true.
No blanket required...
Why are you taking this as a joke.

Cremation seems like a viable option that is more environmentally friendly. Just as long as the person is dead
Yay my home state!! Virginia.....
I hate getting cremated it is not my personal choice but I am getting buried and getting buried is my personal choice
How many times have you tried it?
okay
Yeah me too it's too hot
I do like flameless better its less of a foot print on the earth but definitely better than embalming and burial
They're very ethical... However, you know many others cut corners, etc.
It doesn’t take as long as that to cremate a deceased In the UK. it’s usually around 1.5 to 2 hours for average weight.
I have my husband ashes here with me it makes me feel like he is still here and i talk to him all the time)
Im impressed with their practises.Could have done without the organ music tho
Very interesting information with regards to right of disposition.
One would automatically assume the surviving spouse would hold that authority.
This an additional reason, the importance of having your final wishes be legally documented.
One question of interest.
Prior to cremation, electric implants must be removed, who takes the responsibility for its removal ?
Thank you and best regards.
So to do it right, it takes 4 hours per body per retort.
This was the wrong site I commented about. It was called Grandma's burial. .

Hello I like this video it is good and interesting for me to watch becouse it is about a crematouium.
Hello I have done a thumbs up for this video.
Sick procedure
Nice professional presentation, question: are bodies embalmed before cremation?
No, they aren't embalming is for burial. What a cremation is good for if you want to go that route, is to have your ashes put into the soil. Plant flowers such as roses. This way it's a lasting reminder to the family that you are always with them.
How would anyone ever know if the remains that the family gets back are actually from the deceased? I know in the video he says 2 people verifies but it really does boil down to the honesty of the crematory operator.
Does it really matter?
@@curtisstewart9594 In reality it does not...but they still do go through the trouble to verify that remains are from who they say they are.
God Bless all the souls and God Bless there are people who can provide this service.
Mine is no service ,no flowers ,nobody there at all, my ashes not to be picked up at all ,just tossed some where by the company .no coffin just a paper box. Nobody will know what time it’s going to happen either.im gone that’s it just remember me however you want.no body apart my kids and hubby will be told.going out my way.
You are hella wierd
What a poor way you look at life
I always wanted to be vaporized by nuclear fireball
Legally your husband/wife/partner is your next of kin it is a adult son or daughter or if none a sibling or aunt/uncle as the definition is nearest blood relative
An actual demonstration.
Very informative. Thank you
I want to become dust so I chose to be cremated, got everything in order.
This video gave me reassurance that I made the right decision.
I can't comprehend how you people can be so heartless about your precious grandmother
Margie Eades this is usually what the loved ones wish is. They are often returned to a favourite place of there’s, or the best way to spend there afterlife with there family.
Sounds like a very ethical company. And Louie Watson...that is not funny.

Scary process.
Way too much energy showing off the Retort 5000XL and the bonus pulverizing station. All that’s missing is him saying “isn’t she a beauty!”

What should i do to tell my family that i want my corpe to be creaminate when i die
I just paid $1800 in dental work, and I go for the next $1,000, I hate to see all this trouble I am going thru will be burnt when I die.
Can I be cremated with a cigar in my mouth? That way I can be smoking while I’m smoking.
How much to be creaminate
Hopefully with the metal disk throughout a cremation a spirit isn't magnetized and bound into the metal disk as a opposite effect of what country of India cremations and Vikings did thinking spirits had a larger roamative action than an object metally possiblity binding a spirit into a metal piece with numbers on it half simulative to name plates person's wear displaying a name , so symbolical actions is person's wanting to symbolically suggests dead person's spirits is somehow working a job past a supposed life using symbolism of simulative actional wear cremated dead and living and cultist do with a numerical amount of metal wearage? So, now it gone to guess person from dead repping and working as?... Depopulate
Here in Britain the body gets taken to a crematorium which is separate from the undertaker
Wait so they didn’t cremate the joker
Excited?... Yeah, ok
Surely they could rename the processing and pulverising station.
They could. The cremation chamber is called a retort. The "pulverizing station" is called a cremulator. They probably don't use those terms because most people wouldn't know what they are.
It would be a pagan practice for a practicing Christian to be turned into a keychain or shiny knick knack. 🤷🏻♂️

Most funeral homes offer a cardboard box for their basic casket. Particularly if there is no service at that time.

Quit making morticians wealthy get cremated instead of a casket
I wish it didnt exist i prefere burial to me cremation lacks respect
to each their own. just cos you don't like it doesn't mean the option shouldn't exist for others. and the process of getting pumped full of chemicals, stuffed in a box and put in a hole is not the most respectful route. However, you should have every right to be handled however you wish.
@@michaelengle9062 Cost might come into it also, cremation takes up less space and clean.
