Appreciate you taking some time to explain this one for me. I'm quite new to Studio and needed to bend a piece for a crucial part of one of my designs. I couldn't work out how to do it but knew it was possible. So I appreciate you telling me how, and with that providing tips on how to do it easily.
Thanks for the explanation! I was struggling a lot to change the angle of each end of a rigid hose for one of my models and this really helped me a lot with that!
Thank you this helped a lot! Instead of building plates to move the clip to the right stud you could also use the shortcut-keys WASD. The clips will move 0.5 stud. Other useful shortcut-keys are shift-arrow to rotate the brick 45 degrees, ctrl+shift+V to invert selection and F to set the origin to selected brick.
@@PlaywellBricks have an in with the devs? Also having 2 dimensional camera views would be helpful I think. Instead of them all being 3d unlike other 3d modeling software
Have been struggling for hours - days - to get a couple string parts routed along and around bunch of parts (engine bay in a race car). Studio's Flex tool is easily the worst 3d-space tool I've ever experienced. Absolutely needs a method to control the plane and angle of a change to a node locking a change into only the X Y or Z plane (apparently changing the viewport to top, right, back etc does /not/ accomplish this). Bezier path would be amazing, but even just being able to isolate specific key waypoint nodes to 'steer' with rotation and arrow positions and then lock them (a la LSynth) would be a massive improvement. Fully agree with the problems with the String part, crazy that it has so few nodes.
This has been a helpful strategy, i'm still running into clipping issues where the string particularly will cut through bricks which then makes it not grabable to fix which is frustrating.
My pleasure :) Not all real world flexible parts have been implemented in Studio yet. Your best bet would be to use LDCAD to flex this part and then import it into Studio.
@@PlaywellBricks thanks! Have tried using LDCad, but still can't really get it to work. Have posted on the facebook page about it though, hopefully someone will be able to help me.
I'm trying to recreate the Lego Titanic in Bricklink and it's been a lot of work but also really satisfying, but I'm stuck on trying to get the chains with anchors near the bow section to behave correctly. It's particularly daunting because part of the chain is in a really narrow hollow space and it keeps wanting to interfere with that section, and also the shape is much more nuanced and complex than a single curve. I wish I could just anchor one side of the chain to where it's supposed to be attached and just make the rest of the chain fall naturally with gravity, but I think I'm just gonna have to be patient....
Hey there, you can rotate the ends of the flexible parts only 90 degree in each direction? i really hope they will add e smooth rotation because this functionality is still very limited, despite the great progress.
I believe it is like all rotations, if you hold the shift key while hitting the arrow keys it can rotate by 45 degrees. I agree though there is a LOT of work left to make this a really viable tool in Studio.
@@PlaywellBricks O yea, thanks!. I've avoided Stud.io due to the lack of flexible items, but it is getting there. If they only added the same rotation gizmo when you select at least these end points it will do wonders.
Hi. I'm trying to make instructions for the vintage set 4025 (fire boat). I stuck on the last element, specifically the hose reels (4209, 4210) with a hose end with a handle (194cx2). I don't know how to put it together. HELP.
Hey, Thanks for the video! I'm having issues with the flexible hose 22l with 2 connector ends, it doesn't seem to have any "nodes" to move it around, getting the two ends in place is fine but I can't seem to secure the middle in a clip or manipulate the rest of it without it just returning to an odd position, any ideas? :)
Thank you so much for this informative video, I was struggling with using the string and the older hose parts, now I know why. I wonder why they designed the string flexible function to be like chain, when string is probably the most flexible item lego makes. Great video, I came across your videos and subbed right away. I am wondering how I can get parts added that are also not in LDraw.
Thank you, I am glad it helped! If the parts are no in the LDraw library you will have to make yourself or have someone else make them. We do offer that service if you are interested.

That looks really easy and i will try it yet. Why couldn't electric cable not work like that? I also have to say: thank you for your great video, very useful again 👍🏻
I hope this alleviates some of the frustration. I always use LCAD for curves. It takes a bit of learning but is so much easier and more versatile to work with for curves.
I know the dev team has tried multiple things to improve it, but say nothing has worked well to date. They are also dissatisfied with the current way it works now.
Oops, just noticed the hose I said is 10L was actually 12 L, sorry for any confusion.

That would be nice!

As long as it has a horseshoe icon, it can be bent.

Unfortunately not, LDCAD is your best bet for that.

Does this work too for LEGO rubber bands?
The only way to use rubber bands like that now, is to go through LCAD unfortunately.
How do i make the flexible pieces physicalize and not just go through a piece?

I also have to say: thank you for your great video, very useful again 👍🏻
I suggest looking into LCAD, for flexing electrical cables. I have done a video using that program to flex parts, hopefully that will help you out.
With me the flexible parts are not recognized as fexible and therefore I cannot change them.
It is only available on certain parts. If the horseshoe is how in the brick palette it is flexible.
If with this method we can deal with drive chain?
Unfortunately not, drive chains are not implemented in Studio yet.
can this also work with minifig capes?
No, unfortunately only select parts in Studio are flexible. But you can find folded capes in the LDraw if that is what you need.
