This the part they don't want to address. Adam Silver said years ago in an interview with Rachel Nichols that the average wnba viewer is a middle aged man that loves fundamental basketball. Until women support the women's league I don't want to hear it.
She doesn't want to say it publicly because it's her livelihood. It would be the equivalent of an NBA star like LeBron saying the NBA as a league is trash.

Agreed. He did his normal thing with having a confusing explanation but his opening statement was spot on. She almost answered it but she couldn’t stay on subject. If the product is good but the problem is there aren’t enough viewers then the answer would be more promotion. If it was promoted more and people still don’t watch then the product isn’t as good as you think. Period. It’s like when an artist promotes their album and has great first week sales. If the album is great it will deliver, continue to do numbers, and win awards. If it’s not that good then the artist has to continue to do shows and keep pushing it in order for it to continue to profit. If you have both then you have the NBA. A great product that’s properly promoted and creates amazing revenue and provides justification for compensation.

IMHO, this problem can't be fixed with PR. The NBA is a behemoth, and they haven't been able to solve the issue; the NBA has its own viewership issues. Until these women stop talking and get real about their sport, they'll continue to face viewership and revenue challenges.
Yea. The WNBA has come a long way skill wise, but it doesn't change the fact that most basketball fans would rather watch their local HS boys team over the WNBA. There are some things they could do image wise to help but the players always push back 🤷🏾♂️
It's not a problem. Why is it important that the womens league be popular? It's not. They're damn lucky the NBA pays for them at all. The only problem is the lack of gratitude.

What people are not paying attention to is the average heights. NBA is 6-foot-6.5-inches and WNBA is 6 feet 0.7 inches. How many 6'0 or 6'1 NBA players actually dunk in games, not many at all on a 10 ft rim. How many 6'6 or 6'7 NBA players dunk basically all of them. correct, but it’s not just basketball, in every part of life women can’t deal with the pressure and scrutiny that men do. Men aren’t holding women down, it’s just that women want to be equal to men when it comes to the good stuff that men have but they want to skip the part of pressure, scrutiny, rejection, consequences etc, etc, but that’s what it takes to be where men are in society. Women say they want equality but there talking about equality with successful men, they’re not talking about average men. Women don’t understand that in life they have a safety net but they can’t see it. When men fall there is no net. This conversation is like when men tell women what we want and they ignore it. Like we tell them, we don’t want you to have a BBL, have your natural own hair, don’t wear make up that’s too crazy, and then women will turn around and tell us what we like instead of listening to what we like. It’s the same thing. You can literally give women the answers to the test and tell them the reason why the league hasn’t caught on, and they’ll still blame men for the reason it hasn’t caught on. Or look down on men for explaining what’s happening.

Or is she saying they don't have the skills to adjust which would only prove the reason as to why they are paid what they are paid.
Let's be 100% real here. I have taken my daughter to a few WNBA games...they can ball. The problem is the entertainment factor. They are slower, smaller, and overall less athletic than the men's game. That said, IF the goal is to bring in more revenue, which will allow the league to pay the players more, then accepting suggestions on how to make the game more exciting to watch is beyond needed. However, lowering the rim isn't going to make the players more athletic or their game more exciting. As far as what they can do, I have no idea, but keeping everything as is would be a huge mistake.
Lexi said the critiques are coming from other players because the fans arent complaining, critisizing, etc. The fans are quiet because they arent watching. The people who LOVE basketball enough to watch the WNBA already enjoy the product. The problem is attracting the casual basketball fan to increase your revenue. Men's volleyball nets are higher than women's. Men's track and field hurdles are higher than women's I don't see what the big deal is just lower it. There would be a ton of intrigue if they did
Lowering the rim wont get more views. People just simply dont want to watch the WNBA. The league would have been gone YEARS ago if the NBA didnt pay for it. The fans have voted with their wallet, and the WNBA is a failure. Let it die.

Comedian Bill Burr made a great point about the WNBA: @50% of our population are women, why aren't they supporting their own sport? They watch television, they watch films, they go to shows, plays, concerts, why aren't they watching the WNBA? Every form of entertainment has to figure out how to put butts in the seats. We look at other, sometimes similar sometimes radically different forms of entertainment to see what worked for them and try and incorporate that into our form. What makes the NBA exciting? Dunks? Threes? Handles? It's way more than that. If women were dunking like Vince Carter, it would be more exciting but is that alone going to make the WNBA as popular as the NBA? I don't think that's all it takes to do it. For me, watching the WNBA is like watching college basketball. It just doesn't feel like the NBA. I don't go out of my way to watch either but if it's on and I see it, it's still basketball, I'm gonna watch. But I'm not going to seek it out. I'm not going to pay to go see it in person. In other words, no matter what you're not going to get my entertainment dollar. I'm not your target audience. You need to get your target audience interesting and ask that audience what would make them more interested.

@@SumoCarri For about what, five minutes? Lisa Leslie was dunking since before the first season of the WNBA. Sure, it wasn't Vince Carter but still, it happened. There are a bunch of WNBA players I've liked and have even stolen moves off of. One I once saw at a Chicago Bulls 3 on 3 event in Grant Park before she went to the WNBA, Latasha Byers. She had NBA level post moves and I had shattered my knee into seven pieces and went from being able to dunk (I'm 5'10" by the way) to barely able to jump over a phone book. I moved from the wing to the post, and a couple of Latasha's moves helped me tremendously. But my favorite was Chamique Holdsclaw. She was my Iverson of the WNBA. Loved her handles and her fadeaway jumper. So I've watched the WNBA, but there's just not enough there to make me a real fan. If some woman came out throwing down like VC in his prime just isn't enough to carry the entire league. It's a highlight on ESPN for three days, tops. They're not selling 18,000 season tickets on that, sorry it's just a fact. College basketball is just as boring to me. Hundreds of teams, 64 in the tournament, nobody cares until the last 8 because half of them are going to make the vaunted Final Four. All of the good players are only there as an audition for the NBA. College basketball legacy is about the coaches and their programs, not the players or the game itself. Coaches who we never saw play. Ever see Dean Smith throw down a windmill? Ever see John Wooden's sick handles? Legendary. But college hoops has a baked in audience. First of all, you have the alumni. They went to the college, experienced the culture, they're ON the team in their minds. Then there's the fact that college is a place that educates and helps develop their children and that's huge for parents. College becomes a family tradition. For my family, it was Purdue. Those of us lucky enough to go to college went to Purdue. You want a punch in the mouth at Christmas? Wear an IU hat. "But the red matches my ugly sweater!' *punch* The WNBA will never have this advantage. The WNBA will never have nearly a century of history and a tradition of winning or losing. A Cleveland WNBA franchise winning a championship means so much less than LeBron coming back and winning with the Cavs. There is no WNBA Magic and Bird. The female Michael Jordan, Cheryl Miller, never got to play in the WNBA and there has never been anyone like her since. So while one dunk might capture your imagination for a minute, it just isn't enough. The WNBA needs fans who love the WNBA, who love the franchise, who love ALL of their players. I grew up in Chicago during the Bulls peak, but my favorite players weren't Pippen, Jordan, Rodman, Kukoc... they were Craig Hodges, BJ Armstrong, Pete Myers, Randy Brown... hardworking dudes who didn't get all of the spotlight. When you love a team, a franchise, a league down to the 15th man you are a true fanatic. THAT is what the WNBA needs.
MPJ said nothing wrong …. Revenue shared when the WNBA doesn’t make a profit is WILD! I wish I could be mediocre sub par and still make high six figures
Money invested into the WNBA, up to a point, actually generates more return for the NBA. The goal is to get more people into basketball in general. In terms of revenue sharing, if you look at it more like a law firm and not any other job, it makes more sense. In a law firm, you have maybe one or two lawyers who have high profile cases or clients that generate the vast majority of the profit for the firm. The other lawyers are just as good or at least proficient and win their cases as well, but aren’t bringing in that same level of money. At the end of the day, the firm wants to be able to represent every single level of client, meaning that they have to somehow subsidize the other lawyers to continue growing the client base.
Gilbert disappointed me with this one he didn't tell them the truth, lower the rim and start dunking a big part of what makes even the NBA fun to watch everything else is a plus after dunking. Why else would even Steph Curry who is the greatest three-point shooter push himself to learn to dunk.
If the wnba got payed the same percentage of revenue than every wnba player would actually owe the league money, they get payed almost twice as much as the wnba can afford to pay them
The fact that she’s saying no one ever ask for their opinion about their league is hilarious. We don’t have to ask them they way they be acting whenever giving solutions to make the league better
“I can’t dunk on a 10ft rim so I’m DEFINITELY not dunking on a 9ft rim.” Wtf did I just hear? That just proves that they’re not trying to listen to any suggestions. They just want to be paid for nothing.
People dont go to games to watch good basketball. We watch basketball because these guys are the greatest athletes in the world and specticals to watch. The do stuff average people cant. Watching the WNBA is not exciting, it feels like watching high school basketball. If i want that product ill go to the local school
Personal experience, I took my father to watch Oregon Ducks female girls play against a good team, it was fun but my dad got bored as heck. I took him to see the Oregon Duck males play against USC, he had a great time and now he wants to go a few times every year. He refuses to watch the girls, says its to boring. Not enough athleticism.
YES, this is exactly the problem! I just commented this a couple times under other peoples posts. NOBODY wants to watch unathletic people play any sport whatsoever, it is exactly like watching your local high school team play. It's also why the best high school teams full of D1 commits are some of the most viewed teams, because they're all leaping over the competition
I'm not gonna diss high school ball like that. Even a high-school basketball game has 1-2 exciting athletic players. I'd take the best jv basketball team in the country against a wnba team.
This is literally like opening a sandwich shop and complaining that no one wants to pay for the sandwiches 😒 and then telling McDonalds to give you money 😂
Because of the things they said in the video. Nobody cared to watch Spurs basketball when they were playing that fundamental ass boring shit, also why most people don't care to watch college ball either. Hell, it's why nobody cares to go back and watch late 90s basketball, it's all really boring. And yet it's arguably some of the best basketball that's ever been played. Todays NBA is fast and exciting, guys play with their own swaggers, and all the high scoring 148-153 scores attract younger fans. But the biggest difference between the men and women is ATHLETICISM, I don't know why no one is saying this. Who the hell wants to watch unathletic people play, men or women? In any sport? Lowering the rims and maybe even shrinking the court a bit would give the illusion that they're all flying around and leaping over each other like the men do
He didn't lie 😂 MPJ right on the money! Make it entertaining! Make more money, get more money! It's business! It's economics! Talk to the women! Shouldn't women support women's sports? Women support women's tennis, soccer, and golf......... seriously if fashion designers, brands, singers, rappers, and reality tv stars can make profits off of women y'all should be able to too 😅 Keep in mind multiple MALE sports leagues has made changes and rule changes to make the product more profitable so why can't y'all do it? I'm just saying.........that pride is gonna keep y'all broke asf
The MLS and the WNBA were started around the same time. The difference one league can put butts in seats, the other cannot. Also the MLS changed their rules through the years to attract more audience simple as that.
This is why wealthy people have few conversations with the non-wealthy. You have multi millionaires giving you game but yet you in your feelings about lowering the rim. Choose what audience do you want and figuring it out from there
She said the issue isn’t the product. That’s not true. That’s the crux of it. Women’s basketball, even at the highest level, doesn’t present itself as elite. The amount of easy blown layups and jumpers that don’t even get close is mind-blowing. Let’s start there.
have you watched a WNBA game recently?? If you think they blow layups and jumpers any more than NBA players you're tripping. The issue is that our culture doesn't find it entertaining, that's it, just like ping-pong.
The greatest moment in WNBA history was following its inaugural season. When the season-ending awards were being handed out (MVP, Coach of the Year, etc...) it was revealed that some smart-ass East Coast writer voted for "the rim" as Defensive Player of the Year. Bravo, whoever you were. I'm gonna guess that was his last time voting.

Because the solution is obvious. It’s a failed business, and it should’ve been shut down a long time ago. 30 years and have yet to turn a profit. Unbelievable

You lower the rim to adjust to even the size differences.
They still arent dunking if the rims were 9ft but who cares the shooting would be so bad. Lowering the rim is just a lazy idea that people suggest because they got no other ideas.
@@ram0666 Or they can just get rid of it since nobody watches it. They get paid more overseas anyway right? She couldn’t deal with the opinion of a professional athlete who plays her sport at the highest level.
Enough said.
correct, but it’s not just basketball, in every part of life women can’t deal with the pressure and scrutiny that men do. Women also don’t understand that without men they are screwed, men built society and men maintain society but to women it’s just background. This topic always brings my piss to a boil. She also said men should shut up because we don’t watch their games at 3:33. Who does she think watches their games? This girl is so delusional. So talented and such a small league? They need to either abide by rules the WNBA puts in place. If new rule is Shorter court length, lower rim heights, dunks are 3pt plays, and the woman do not accept this SHUT DOWN THE LEAGUE! They shut down pro indoor soccer. If it can’t sustain its self on its own it is ment to go BK.
That league is talentless.
I've said this same exact thing multiple times. It's pointless. Then they shame us for going overseas lol... yikes.
They use smaller basketballs than men. Why not lower the rims? Pride? OK.
Pride is killing their sport, it would be way more entertaining if they lowered the rim.

And the 3pt line is shorter
It won't make a difference. They don't have the upper body strength to tomahawk or just be playing above the rim like that. Even on a 8ft rim.
@@DefSquadFan It definitely wouldn't hurt to try and lower the rims. If they see that it's actually possible to dunk then they'll actually start training to do it. She said something similar in it would mess everyone's shooting up. But aren't they the best female basketball players in the world? Shouldn't they be able to adjust to the lower rims? Or is she saying they don't have the skills to adjust which would only prove the reason as to why they are paid what they are paid.
Classic case of "when an objective comment meets a subjective response"
My thoughts exactly 💯
Let's be 100% real here. I have taken my daughter to a few WNBA games...they can ball. The problem is the entertainment factor. They are slower, smaller, and overall less athletic than the men's game. That said, IF the goal is to bring in more revenue, which will allow the league to pay the players more, then accepting suggestions on how to make the game more exciting to watch is beyond needed. However, lowering the rim isn't going to make the players more athletic or their game more exciting. As far as what they can do, I have no idea, but keeping everything as is would be a huge mistake.
They shoot a smaller ball from a closer 3 point line, but lowering the rim is crossing tha line?

Exactly Beyoncé and Taylor swift concert tickets sell out like hot cakes. The have made Kardashians and other reality stars billions but won’t go support wnba

Gil trying his best to be neutral that “okay” after she finished had me in tears
That's why that show needed Draymond Green! To put her in her place!
