I think this build up is great! Next time spend $35 on a stepper bit when drilling the console outlet. I would consider redoing the temp wiring to the plug behind the dash and tilting the iPad so that the camera has the best angle on you the driver when you are trying to video chat with someone while you are stuck in the road. I had wanted to do the same modifications to my infinity fx35 dash for some time. It was difficult fumbling through the radio and making sure my cellphone was charged. I would consider doing a wireless console charger inlay next to rest my cellphone while driving down the road also adding a few in ports and an AC outlet in the console with a power inverter mounted under the hood to charge a laptop. Great work!
Hey brother which iPad would u recommend is the best easiest size to use for everyday use or do they all seem to work the same what I mean is does the smaller iPad kit work easier to load unload iPad than the bigger iPad kit u sale so I will know which one to order from you thanks for your time.@@LucasBuildsStuff
i loved sticking the foam to the monitor and tracing it. Another method is to take a picture (making sure your perpendicular to the outline) and upload it into google sketchup and trace it their. Even better than that is using a scanner on a printer.
envyous of the space and ease of removing interior parts like that... use to german cars, like everything is bolted down and like 5 of the bolts are behind something else that you also need to remove.. and when removed, every little cranny is packed with electronic gizmos or sound deadening
Hey buddy, I hope this is still working well. I don't know if you printed it in PLA, but I would suggest using something like ASA or Nylon, as those will not soften with heat / age. There are some pretty good videos on YT that show different materials being left on a dash in the heat (and I don't mean blazing heat, just standard heat). It would be a good reference. I've done all my automotive stuff in ASA - it prints beautifully and is UV and heat resistant without an enormous price tag. Even if heat is not an issue (it appears you live in a cold climate) ASA is still a great choice to reduce cold brittleness of the material and improve impact resistance.
Hey! So I used PETG because of the temperature resistance being close to ABS, UV protected, easy to print and the stiffness of the final product. But I was just looking into ASA and Nylon the other day because the biggest downfall I've found with PETG is the post processing. (I'm working on version 2 which is requiring a lot of supports) So far it's only been in moderate temperatures, -20C to +15C and no issues yet! Do you have a brand for ASA you could recommend? Also thank you for watching!
@@LucasBuildsStuff I absolutely LOVE eSun's ASA. ZERO post processing needed. I run a 0.4mm nozzle with 250°C nozzle and 90°C bed. All prints done on glass, though PEI will work for smaller components. Try to avoid sharp corners on the first layer (use a brim or raft) because it will try to peel up even with adhesive if the part is too thick/sharp corners/chonky. Also, no fans. If you still have warping issues after trying that, you can bump the bed all the way up to 110 or so. However, I've only ever had the lifting/warping issue happen when i was printing basically a solid rectangular housing with stupid settings. Its a great product, supports break off and leave zero witness marks, print quality is out of this world, and it feels nice to the touch. To me, it prints better than any other filament. Also, thanks for providing the content! You're doing a great job.
I was wondering if you sell these kits to the public or if you did it as a one off piece for your personal truck. It really looks amazing. I have an '02 duramax and have already swapped out the whole center console to the newer '03-'06 models as I always preferred the newer look compared to the 00-02 models. If you could let me know I'd appreciate. Thanks
Dude that was an aewsome build , It looks like a lot of time , but worth it. I used to have a truck like that an always wanted to do somethimg like what you did here. (ps love the preacher saying "WHY, WHY" LMAO , thats how i feel when doing things like that . Thanks
You are awesome! I thought about doing something similar and came to YT to fiund out you already did it. haha I planned around a year ago on moving the climate control down but maybe using a mini iPad I could get more where I wanna be. But hey, yours looks just perfect! I really liked everything you did.
Thank you! I'm glad you like it! I just uploaded a video of Version 2 of the Kit, it's a lot simpler and I actually took the time to sand and paint it 😅
If I was you I would not mess with the way you have it as it is stopping sun glare at the angles you have it at that moment also with the lip of the frame that you have it are helping to shadow it from the sun's glare happy mistake I am not all the way through the video so I do not know if you change it or stay with it the way you have
When I check online it says 2003 Silverado 1500's have the same dash bezel as 2500hd's but I don't have a 1500 to compare to sorry, you'll have to do some research
If I was doing what you are doing I would tilt the screen towards me to give the appearance of an airplane cockpit, using some parts from the initial dashboard and extending them on one side to tilt it toward the driver you could also have tilting to the driver as standard but you could give it the capability of turning back flat by incorporating some bellows fabric and a simple threaded bolt could help it manoeuvre to tilted to the 2 going back flat and listen once you enter into a project like this the sky is the limit you can do what you want really I suppose the most simple way would be to purchase some sort of holding the voice that can swivel in any direction and build around the edges of the device with fibreglass to give that more professional look you might not get it on your first run but I assure you you will pick it up
Thank you! I'm actually finishing a new indented version and hoping to eventually sell the kit - printers just acting up right now which has put a kink in my schedule
@@LucasBuildsStuff bro please sell this kit you will change the game for a lot of people!!! Idc what you charge I’ll pay it I love to support small business 🇺🇸

google raster image cad. i use it all the time, just make a spline and you have yourself a class a surface

I suck at 3d printing , but my ideas is strong😂
