You have no idea what this means to us who are from Palestine and watching from the diaspora, not believing the silence that we are met with. Thank you a thousand times, Jack!
It’s not like we’re strangers for our plight to be ignored But this it’s too much I couldn’t take thier silence it disgusted me to the point of puking I had to unfollow every person who didn’t speak up Cuz this time it’s been going intense for 5 months? And even tho we’ve gone global with big protest in the streets most influencers are ignoring it there’s no way they don’t know I knew we were gon be treated that way but thinking about it now from as if I was a foreign Let’s say Ukrainian remember why they got the treatment none of us got from influencers it’s actually rlly frustrating
@@RiRi-ku6xz I am so sorry for your pain. Their silence is unbelievable. Cannot stand to keep watching them smiling, reading, cooking or whatever anymore as if nothing has happened. Yes, there are tons of atrocities happening worldwide during the past 10 years (since I discovered Booktube) and most of them only spoke up for BLM and Ukraine, yes they are not political channels and I understand their situation when even high-profile people got canceled. But as you mentioned the intensity is unprecedented (how can our world let it continue for 5 freaking months), and not even one word to show they care? It feels like they live in an alternative reality. I will never watch their videos again.
I know exactly how you feel. I live in Canada now and it breaks my heart to see people being able to just go on with their daily lives as if our people aren’t being massacred daily.
I lost humanity in booktubers because they read about fictional stories about oppression and express how deeply they felt about the fictional stories. But when it’s happening in real life, most of them are silent. But I’m so glad you’re using your platform for good. It’s never too late to stand up for the oppressed. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

My recommendation is "The woman From Tantoura" by Radwa Ashour, she herself was not Plestinian, but she was married to the Palestinian poet and author Mourid Barghouti ( You can also read his book Isaw Ramallah), they were both talented and left a great literary legacy, and a son, the poet Tamim Barghouti.
Speaking as a Palestinian: such a video means so much to us, Jack. PS. I’m already a big fan of yours! As for recommendations, the first recommendation anyone would give you would be Ghassan Kanafani, and if you’re into poetry; Mahmoud Darwish. You’ve already started that journey, and i’m sure you’ll find your way to other works of Kanafani and Darwish, so i'll recommend some of my other favourites: 1. There's a deceased Palestinian author named Mourid al-Barghouti. I read two of his books (I saw Ramallah) and (I was born there. I was born here) - you can find both in English. The thing about these books is that the author really managed to express the Palestinian reality and the Palestinians' real thoughts and feelings. Aside from these books, Mourid al-Barghouti wrote poetry. I rarely read poetry, and so I genuinely felt sorry (for myself) because I knew i'd be missing out on so much by not reading his work. By the way, Mourid al-Barghouti was married to an Egyptian novelist named Radwa Ashour, who wrote, among other works, a novel called (Al-Tantouria) or (The woman from Tantoura) - I would also highly recommend it. Also, Radwa and Mourid had a son, Tamim al-Barghouti, who's a quite famous poet right now. Although I don't like to read much poetry, I do enjoy listening to him recite some of his poems. In general, I like to listen to poetry more than to read it. 2. Another author I think you'd enjoy reading for is Suad Amiry. Suad is originally an architect. She writes in English and her writing is humorous, which is why I think you'll enjoy it. I recommend these two books by her (Sharon and My Mother in Law) and (Golda Slept Here). You can also watch an old TEDx talk of hers here (ruclips.net/video/bk7joCi-gXs/видео.html). 3. There's also an author named Ibrahim Nasrallah, who wrote many books - I read 6 of them, but if I have to recommend only one I would definitely choose (Time of White Horses). This follows the story of a family from late Ottoman times to the Nakba in 1948. These are among my favourites, but we can always add more to the list if you'd like!
A not so fun fact : ghassan kanafani was assassinated in 1972 by the Mossad WITH HIS NEICE in Lebanon and they called him a terrorist so reading his works and appreciating his message that he wanted to spread to the world is on its own an act of rebellion against injustice and honoring those who died for us all . Also I think it’s interesting that the Zionist entity fears Palestinian authors and poets as much as they fear armed groups which means that art is on its own is in fact very very important to resist and to be free.
it will never not be fascinating on how we are witnessing the horrifying collective punishment of people who are condemned for something that was never in their control, done by the people who should have known and understood what it feels like to be condemned for something that was never in their control.

People often dismiss it as "complicated" and move on without trying to understand. Few take the time to read about it, to listen to the stories, or to watch the movies that shed light on the reality. Sadly, it took a heavy toll of countless lives for the world to finally pay attention. So, Thank you Jack for your voice!

I always admired you but from now on you've won my heart ❤️ Thank you so much Jake for raising the voice of people who are not able to raise theirs.

jack , sincerely im so thankful for this!! having seen a lot of booktubers stay quiet during this time has been so tormenting, so disturbing and disappionting, so thank you so much for using your voice, your influence, tysm for your humanity
THANK YOU JACK!!!
I would also recommend the books and poetry by Hala Alyan, especially “Salt Houses”.
Thank you for taking your time to thoughtfully pick these particular books can’t wait to read them all
Thank uuu so much Jack, always knew u were awsome !!
Yay I’ve been waiting for this video. Can’t wait to update my TBR
Thank you a thousand times for using your platform to spread awareness and standing up for people in need
I will forever be grateful fot this! Thank you Jack 🍉
Minor Detail and Returning to Haifa are absolutely incredible and heart-shattering. Also, I’d recommend listening to Adania Shibli’s interviews; i was listening to her in a podcast (from 2021?) and she has such brilliant thoughts on language
Also, our common alma mater Durham has been making things difficult for the Palestine Society (e.g., imposing difficulties on the Soc which they did not impose on anything related to Ukraine…). I thought I’d mention that to keep you updated and in case you wanted to voice any support for the Soc
I'm so glad that you did this jack, I have to say I expected a lot of supporters during the current circumstances I am so happy you're one of those supporters keep going !
Definitely going to read some of this books! Thanks for sharing and giving a voice for the palestinian people 🇵🇸🇵🇸🤍
Thank you for this video!!!
Just subscribed!! We got your back Jack!! Sending tons of love
YES I LOVE THIS, THANKS JACK FOR SHARING THIS
Thank you for the Ghassan Kanafani recs, I have a lot of Palestinian books on my TBR and just added 3 more :)
Ones that Jack hasn't mentioned that look interesting to me:
- Salt Houses by Hala Alyan
- The Arsonists' City by Hala Alyan
- The Skin and It's Girl by Sarah Cypher
Thank you!! This is amazing
No way! 😭😭😭 This is amazing Jack🎉❤
I was waiting for something like this ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for making this video ❤
The first vid i came across with u speaking abt Palestine was on ur tiktok, I can not express how happy I was, I explained to ppl around me who arent on Booktok or read books how incredible it is that such a loud and respected voice in the world of booktok is promoting Palestinian literature.
I also realized that people who read a lot, especially fiction, are likelier to develop empathy, compassion, and critical judgment to support causes deemed controversial or complex and silenced by the West.
Jack, this is so important! Thank you!
Against the Loveless World is beautiful and thought provoking. I read it a few years ago, and may revisit it now.
thank you so much for the recs and making this video ! 🫶
Jack, I've been watching your channel for so long and this means SO SO SO SO SO much because everyone else I have watched for years is silent. I admire your courage. Thank you.
I cried throughout the whole video. Thank you Jack!
UGH THANK YOU JACK FOR THIS !!!!!!!!
