Both designed by Magna Steyr in Austria however the Grenadier is half the price of the G wagon which will cost you nearly $200,000. Also, you better have $30,000 in your bank account when they go wrong as they are extremely expensive and most parts need to be shipped in from Germany. Good luck if you are in Africa or Australia. Even in the USA some parts can take one month to be flown in, at great cost. Fantastic vehicle though until it breaks. Greek car for a millionaire though. If you’re not a millionaire, go for the Grenadier as it has the same capabilities but at far lower cost for initial purchase, maintenance, and ownership in general. I have a Grenadier and a Mercedes GLS 400 D which has the same engine as the G wagon and although mine is new and only has 20,000 miles on the clock it cost me over £5000 in repairs already. Some of the parts had to come from Germany and I’m based in the UK it’s crazy. I love the simplicity of the Grenadier.
Love the look of the Grenadier, but needs traditional gauge cluster. Also, I'd prefer if your camera covered a slightly wider FOV. Your behind-the-wheel view, for e.g., cuts off the top of the windshield and looks a bit claustrophobic
Owned a G wagon, driven the Grenadier… Buy the new defender. For what you use the car for 90% of the time it bests both of these vehicles….. Especially if you can spring for a V8 Defender. It’s superior on road and has better interior space to both of these vehicles… Unless you are rock crawling, the defender will do everything you need off road and is excellent on road in inclement weather….
If you are worried about depreciation then a used gwagon vs Grenadier would be a better comparison. Lets be honest if you are looking at any of these vehicles you should have some type of money on the side for when life hits you. Price for any repairs shouldn't be something that should worry you if you choose to get a used Mercedes. Showing off is an expensive sport lol.
The Grenadier steering is horrible. The g wagon finds aswell a home on the race track. You can‘t compare that utility car to a premium g wagon. Just saying 😅
These are both cool, but almost no one is going to wheel them harder than what a stock Subaru can do. And parking at a trail head for a few hours, you’re probably going to be the first target for a break in vs all the poors’ cars.
I want the Grenadier as I would go off road, and the G wagen has street wheels and tires, with side exhausts that would get trashed. The thing is the G wagen has lockers and all the stuff that would make it great off road, if they didn’t then go and design it for pretty much just road use. Even the ‘professional’ version they sell which is meant to be the off roader is basically a trim kit. But at literally double the power and a waaaaay nicer interior that frankly makes the gauge cluster and info panel unit on the Grenadier look stupid, you can totally see why it costs double the money! All Ineos has to do to improve the Grenadier is ditch the dumb warning light cluster and center info panel and do something more mainstream like the G wagon. Or even Rubicon! No-one is going to say they much preferred it when all they saw in front of them were 30 little warning lights…
The G400d Professional is the perfect G wagen. It's geared more towards actually being taken off-road with the diesel engine. But i don't think they offer it in the US.
Nice video. I owned (and sold) a Grenadier. The on-road manners of the Ineos are not good. From the turn in which you mentioned as well as the constant adjustments driving at speed. It's just tiring to drive. If you buy a Grenadier for off-roading I think owners will be happy, until they go through the contortions required to lock / unlock the differentials. If you buy it as a daily driver as I did, I think you will be disappointed. The G Wagon, a new one anyway, isn't going to see much offroading but it has much better driving dynamics on the road and I would argue very capable off-road right down to the push-button lockers. Finally, I would say that most of the Grenadier quirks are really annoying and the G-Wagon quirks are really just quirks. The fun comparison would be a new Qreandier and a 2017 G-Wagon. Roughly the same price point and you're starting to get into the range of a buyer that would take it off-road.
You made the correct choice. You were not the target for the Grenadier. Too many people liked the old-school look and then had to deal with it as a daily and were surprised. Ineos was really clear in their messaging and marketing - but it still took some people by surprise. That’s just an experience thing - they didn’t know what “recirculating ball steering on a solid front axle” meant or would feel like. I think most owners in Florida and SoCal are probably going to be in the “whoops” category.
Exactly the G wagon up to 2018 is sooooo similar but I’d argue the grenadier is the better of the two . I sold my 2018 W463 for my grenadier and I genuinely believe it’s a better all round wagon . But boy you can tell it’s a Magna engineered car. Blind folded you could forgive yourself for thinking you’re sat in a W463 G wagon
G wagon started out as utilitarian, now a pavement princess. I had one and sold it. Much preferred comfort of range rover. Grenadier looks great.
Nobody goes off-roading
In a G wagon.
Merc sells much more utilitarian g wagon trims than anything ineos offers.
@@jedrzejgorski5437 Not any more.
they DO in Moab! ruclips.net/video/VbyqNw2-Cd8/видео.html

I have a G wagon and a Grenadier. Everything you said about the G wagon applies to Grenadier too....lol
Congrats on your G
One is for going to the mall, the other is for going to Africa
Great video, they are both cool but call me crazy, the grenadier is almost cooler in a weird way

Amazing how similar they look. I'm starting to like Ineos.

Actually you are starting to understand the G value

Looking forward to the Grenadier vs Miata comparison.😉
Miata is far heavier
@@jayczyzyk9707 the lockers on the Miata engage way easier.
And risk angering all of Reddit?

How’s the suspension compared to a defender with airbags?

The silly Mercedes tires and stupid tire cover along with running boards vs rock sliders are all you need to know, you can stop right there.
I had associated the Ineos with old defenders but seeing it side by side with the G the similarities are striking
Grenadier is the best suv

I'm mainly getting "fancy" vs "utilitarian" here. Or, in other words, (simply put): "useless" vs "useful".

You don't have to have an amg.
If Mercedes offered the G wagen with the I6 and toned down the luxury crap, it'd be my pick. Both are pretty cool rigs in their own right.

when will the G wagon off road be available to review
Not sure
Both are designed and created by Austria's Magna Steyr . The G-Wagon is the biggest profit margin for MB ever.
I’d personally go for the g wagon unless I go off-road
I thought these would be similar,.. and other than looks.. its not even close.
I rather buy 2 Ineos than 1 G-wagon
The Mercedes sprinter limo van is the same as the cargo van
G wagon all the way ❤❤
The only comparable G-wagen to the Grenadier is the G461
More like a W463 I think
I'd rather have a Grenadier for 100,000 dollars rather than the G wagon for 200,000 dollars
Unfortunately the G Wagen has independent front wheels since 2018 I think
Yep 2019 model year doesn’t have the front live axle anymore.
The only mainstream vehicle with solid axles on the market today is Jeep Wrangler
Wer Geld ausgeben möchte kauft sich die G Klasse ………Ineos heute Probe gefahren …Top Auto 👍👍👍
Will the Grenadier be known as the “Poor Man’s” G Wagon?
The one I just ordered is going to come to $106K+ ... that's Poor to you? What do you drive, friend?
Brothers by a different mother.
"in today's video" is said in two syllables
BS! They are as close to the same as a Ford Bronco and a Toyota Forerunner!
I picking the mb g 63 all the way, my friend
😊😊😊.
Want - V8 grenadier
to make this actually comparable, ineos HAS to give us the 4.4 twin turbo v8 from the x5 m comp
They look totally different......waste of time...!!
