  • In this video I demonstrate why the HD auto primary chain tensioner is a problem, and why you should replace it with a manual tensioner 🔧

Tried Hayden tensioner , Hayden tensioner with spring and baker attitude adjuster. You know what the best is ? I bought a brand new Harley auto tensioner and locked it with a evolution bump stop. Big Harley shoe, quiet operation, spring loaded and can’t ratchet up. Simply the best by far

Yikes. One more thing to check. My 2014 RK is my newest Harley and it's very jumpy at slow speed. Figured it was the compensator which has been on my radar to replace. Never had the outer primary cover off (20k miles) but I know I need to have a look-see. I wasn't aware the the auto-adjuster had a ratchet design. Another boneheaded "idea" fro the MoCo. Why they closed up the inspection trap door (another MoCo boneheaded idea) evades me. A "premium" motorcycle my ass.

A great replacement part for the OEM compensator/Screaming Eagle compensator is the Dark Horse Man O War compensator. A direct drive can replace the compensator also which i do many of - Food for thought bud! Cheers

Harley compensators and chain tensioners are junk for sure. The chain was so tight, that the tooth of the starter wreath, left marks on the inner cover. I ordered a Baker compensator and chain tensioner. It would be nice, if there was a outer cover for '13 FLHT with a trapdoor, as Frank Saxton says, so you can check the chain tension, without removing the whole cover.

Man even taking the spring load off these tensioners work, manually set it to 12.5mm play in the chain and on ya way!

LOL..... you've watched too many RUclips videos. That tensioner looks fine and works fine. But since you believe the tensioner is crap, then why didn't you change out that crap compensator? Yep, you should have taken care of that ticking time bomb too. LOL
