It's the most beautiful version of this song i've ever Heard. The orchestra ans her voice are perfection....unbelievable.
She’s so lovely, and also she captures Arielle’s youthful innocence, and child-like wonder. She sings and acts with Arielle’s heart & soul.
She caught the sadness behind this song so well. Especially the final few words....I LOVE the new rendition Halle has done, she's a phenomenal singer and she sings the reprise so well since it's more hopeful but I really don't like the jazzy notes that have been added to the most intimate parts. This is a sad song that mirrors Ariel's longing and hopelessness.
I agree, Halle has a beautiful voice but at times I found she conveys the wrong key emotions at different parts of the song. And she's a bit too dramatic and unnatural like she is self-aware that she is being watched. You can be powerful and dramatic but it has to be in the right place and time. For example, this video is great, bringing a more powerful take because the stage musical is where you can show your voice. But in a self-contained film, at the part where she sings to herself, it's a little bit much for me. Should have gone the les miserable route, where there is a clear difference between the stage performance and the real-life self-contained world setting inside a movie. Finally, did you think that the core of the song changed in Halle's version compared to of version I do? I always thought that the Og song was at times cheerful, hopeful, and at the end despaired (perfectly depicting Ariel condition). But I found Halle is more frustrated and angered and just sad (And I don't mean that I feel sad hearing it, the song just sounds sad without conveying sadness, at least that's what I feel), and that is what I found lacking.
Totally agree. Halle is wonderful, but she lacks Ariel 's sadness and innocennce in this song.

If they could have this concert every year, I would attend for the rest of my life. Why does it have to be a one-time once in a lifetime event? Why not make it a permanent annual event? I'd rather attend this concert than go to Disney World.

@@chico8212 halle is better in singing ability, but she messes up the core emotional moments in the song, which takes you out of the moment. The singing is meant to portray the characters emotions, dreams, concerns. Halle didn't capture it well. Her portrayal is too dramatic, especially at the end, where ariel is supposed to express hopelessness and dispair. She does a weird run, ruining that moment.

Jodi Nelson was personally coached by Howard Ashman (lyricist) so her performance was the best. You can find the video of the recording session on RUclips. This version does the song justice. But it's based on the original performed by Jodi Nelson. And it was Howard Ashman's vision.
