The original Disney classic song and this performance are both so short yet extremely loaded with carefully and masterful crafted mannerisms and hints, that refer their inspiration sources so brilliantly that it shows just how much this performer in particular prepared for it, to the point of allowing himself to make use of otherwise almost always just common dead stage time in between number's transitions efficiently just for the public's pleasure after such an experience delivered. Just... too good, thank Poseidon it was recorder nicely as it was for future enjoy

Drag Queens are usually guys in makeup and costumes putting on a show, performers. They aren't evil witches trying to turn your children gay, beucase firstly, drag shows are usually for adults so no children are gonna be there. If there is kids there, that's the parents fault and not the drag queen. The only time kids would interact with drag Queens is in drag queen story hours at libraries or something, which is them acting kid friendly and reading them books. Nothing more. Second, you can't turn gay, just like you can't turn straight. Also, if you don't mind women in fancy costumes and makeup why is men in the same costumes in makeup suddenly wrong?
I don't know how everyone in the audience is not watching this perfomance with a big goofy grin on their faces! This man is bringing The Little Mermaid to life right before your eyes! What a joy to behold! You can tell from the very first evil laugh that this was gonna be good!
It's probably one of the best interpretations ever. Perfect voice, body language, attitude, everything. And the orchestra, is divine. Such an amazing performance.
He's done a lot of American and Germanic (mostly in Germany) musicals. He's great here, he also did a great job as Armand in Lestat (also understudied Lestat) and Quasimodo in Der Glöckner von Notre Dame. His least suited role, I think, was Count Krolock in Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires -- just really needs a baritone or darker tenor). Fantastic actor, but quite a light voice for some roles he's been cast in.
@@anwynoakenshield really? I don't like his Krolock or Dracula for the same reason: to light a timbre, they really need a darker color. Love him as Armand and Lestat, though! Edit: Mark Seibert is the only tenor I've heard really pull off Krolock. His vocal color is probably the lightest I would go for that role. Even then, I'm not sure he could do Drac.

I love absolutely everything about this performance. I will highlight the things that I like: 0:50 The quick camera turnaround, followed by a sinister laugh reminiscent of Ursula. Perfect intro to start the song with because it instantly sets the mood. It's like she couldn't help but laugh at the thought of how she was about to manipulate Ariel into getting what she wanted. 0:56 "I admit that in the past I've been a nasty," and "They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch." Love this part of the song in general, but she executed it very well. 1:08 The fanboy who sees his childhood hero come to life. 1:30 The fangirl smiles in agreement when she hears that she and others have been called pathetic. 1:42 I love how sassy "YES INDEEDDD!" sounds. 3:06 When she turns her head and says "JUST YOUR VOICE," it looks and sounds so evil. It's almost as if the real Ursula got revealed for a second. 3:30 Perfect ending. 3:55 I take that back, this is the perfect ending. This is now my favorite version of this song. Even better than the original.

The head movements of the flute player at 0:14 are great. I miss playing in a big ensemble. Getting swept away while being _part_ of the music is amazing.
So many versions of this, including in the Broadway version of TLM, don't really get what imo makes this character compelling - that yeah, it's 'problematic' for lack of a better word, but Ursula NEEDS to read some form of fat or queer or older, or all three, and absolutely SLAY in being those things while also being sinister and clever. That's what makes her awesome. Bringing it back to drag with this performance nails it. I didn't even realize Drew Sarich isn't a regular drag performer until I looked up his other work, he has the perfect energy here.

But that character never felt like Ursula to me, it felt like someone else. I was a kid and even though I was fascinated by the octopus witch Ursula, I felt there is something quite not right, something missing? or something awkward about the character. Now I have realized. Ursula shouldn't have been just a female witch. It just doesn't add up. This clip made everything right and perfect. It brought out the hidden layer of the witch. This is my perfect Ursula. Thank you!
This was composed by Alan Menken and at this concert orchestrated by Michael Kosarin, who has arranged basically all of Alan Menkens work on the animated movies and many Broadway Adaptions together with him. They have been working together for 30 years now and it really shows here! Of course, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra is internationally reknown for being awesome aswell. :)

when someone BECOMES their performance its very breathtaking. every second of this was just that. GREAT performance.

I completely disagree, Sherie Rene Scott performed the role wonderfully and didn’t have to be fat or gay.

IIRC her look was based on the drag performer Divine, so it definitely makes more sense for her to be played by a drag performer
