Melissa McCarthy is a decent actress. She just isn't Ursula. That, up there in the video, is perfect Ursula. Wow, how did I not see this two years ago? An absolutely fantastic rendition of the character. Starts out the song completely selling the "I'm desperate to convince you I'm not all bad" and seamlessly transitions into pressuring Ariel to take the deal, to finally relishing in tricking this poor unfortunate soul. Needs some polish, but anyone who hasn't played the character before will get that shine by opening night.
Far superior lyrics!!! I admit that in the past I've been a nasty They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch But you'll find that nowadays I've mended all my ways Repented, seen the light, and made a switch True? Yes! And I fortunately know a little magic It's a talent that I always have possessed Although lately, please don't laugh I use it on behalf Of the miserable, the lonely, and depressed Pathetic Poor, unfortunate souls In pain In need This one longing to be thinner, That one wants to get the girl And do I help them? Yes, indeed Those poor, unfortunate souls So sad So true They come flocking to my cauldron Crying "spells Ursula, please!" And do I help them? Yes, boo-boo Now it's happened once or twice Someone couldn't pay the price And I'm afraid I had to rake 'em 'cross the coals Yes I've had the odd complaint But on the whole I've been a saint To those poor unfortunate souls Oh~! Ariel! What's it gonna be? You wanna go up there and be with princey-boo? Or stay down here with me? You'll have your looks, your so-so face And don't underestimate the importance of body language! The men up there don't like a lot of blabber They think a girl who gossips is a bore Yes on land it's much preferred for ladies not to say a word And after all dear, what is idle prattle for? Come on, they're not all that impressed with conversation True gentlemen avoid it when they can But they dote and swoon and fawn On a lady who's withdrawn It's she who holds her tongue who gets a man ! Come on you poor unfortunate soul Go ahead Make your choice I'm a very busy woman and I haven't got all day It won't cost much Just your voice! You poor unfortunate soul It's sad but true If you want to cross the bridge, well bitch You've got the pay the toll Take a gulp and take a breath And go ahead and sign this fucking scroll Flotsam, Jetsam, now I've got her, boys The boss is on a roll ! All these people saying Gaga should be Ursula in the live adaptation, I urge a male in drag who is part of the LGBTQ community to play her. Ursula was inspired by the glamorous Divine herself. And Disney owe us for casting two straight actors in gay roles 😠 Support LGBTQ actors Hollywood!
Just cuz Ursula was INSPIRED by a drag queen doesn't mean ONLY drag Queens can play her, or that Disney HAS to get a drag queen to play her. Also what gay roles did disney have that they made straight actors play?
sorry but, just because Ursula was inspired by a drag queen doesn't mean she should only be played by actors of the lgbt community, disney should hire someone with the criteria of if they are talented to play ursula, if they sound like her, etc, not just because they are part of the community. Imagine that out of 15 people 5 were part of the community and someone outside it got the role cause disney thought they were more suited to play Ursula, they judge people because of their talente, those people could be from in or outside of the community. They shouldn't give someone a chance just because they are part of a community, they should give a chance to any talented individual regardless of who they are
@@owlmycatxd4678 if a third of the actors auditioning were LGBT+ I'd be frankly amazed. In that kind of audition process it's reasonable to conclude that the decision was based on talent, but that's a far cry from what usually happens.
to say that only LGBT members should play gay characters, it's like saying that only psychopaths should play a murderer...the criterion to choose should be on their talent, not their preference, but i agree on that Hollywood, not only Disney, should diversify their portfolio in all matters of the cinema industry, acting, directing, etc.but the decisive point must always be to choose the right talent, no matter where it comes from...😊

Right???? The fact that they refuse to have a drag queen at this point is kinda offensive. Titus would have been AMAZING. To be fair, the people who were mad about Halle Bailey would have lost their minds at him playing Ursula.
I have hated all of Disney’s live action movies thus far. They’re miscast, boring, and lacking of any of the magic that made the originals work. But if this man is actually casted at Ursula I’d see it at least 10 times for him alone.
I absolutely could NOT watch Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson. Terrible.
M X I fell asleep in the theater 20 minutes in and woke up at the last scene. I never fall asleep during movies lol
The Live Ariel one was a joke. Half of it was animated. Most of the performances were OK, I just wish they would have made it an actual movie, y'know?
I agree with Burt C0caine
@@fantaoramge that wasn’t too bad. There was a Broadway Little Mermaid years ago so I think it was more inspired by that. I just saw it as a little TV special. They’re still making a live action Little Mermaid movie.
"Sign this FKN SCROLL" ...
I think my favorite was "Well, bitch, ya gotta pay the toll."
"Yes boo-boo." LOL.
When he said "bitch" and "sign the fucking scroll" guuurrrrrl!!! I barked!! 🤣
😂😅
His little talking bit at the start sounds like a villain telling their prologue/story, I love it
Both technically impressive and well hilariously acted, I love it!
when i heard tituss was in tlm on broadway, i just assumed he was playing ursula and i was a little disappointed to hear he was sebastian. so this is amazing to see!
that silent "just your voice" skjafklfasjkln the drama! the theatrics!
I love that part
THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. Not only did he do an amazing job, he also gave it character and made the role his own!!!!
"If you want to cross the bridge, well bitch, you've got to pay the toll"
Disney Ursula could never! Hahahahaha!
😂😂
HE. DID. THATTTT!!
Yes he did.
He did the HELL out of that!
What did he do?
That!
He is so perfect for this role. Ursula didn’t come across to Ariel as a villian and she was tricked. He has the vocals, the attitude, and the delicate personality that could be convincing to Ariel. We all know Ursula was inspired by Divine the famous drag queen so why not let him audition?
MAKE THIS MAN URSULA. For the culture ✊🏾
My uneducated ass: Okay, who is this guy and why do I see him everywhere?
*Hears him sing*
Welp....guess I’ve found a new obsession.
Watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and you’ll only be more obsessed. He is brilliant.
He’s great in Dolemite
And don't forget his endorsement for Downy Unstoppables. It seems I see that ad just about everywhere. 😅
He adds a whole other dimension to the character.
He’d be such a perfect Ursula
At this point I have ZERO interest in yet another live action remake but if Tituss were playing Ursula...Disney could take ALL my money!
Oh my god that was hauntingly beautiful!!! This is my first time hearing his singing voice, I had no idea how talented he truly is!!
He’s so talented, I love this version!
This guy is awesome! If Billy Porter could rock being a fairy godmother then this guy could definitely make the best Ursula!
If they were in a show together I'd probably just die (of laughter & tears both)
Melissa McCarthy could never
This December diva tituss forever ❤️
Melissa McCarthy is a decent actress. She just isn't Ursula. That, up there in the video, is perfect Ursula. Ursula is brooding, conniving, mischievous, and plotting which just doesn't describe a performance I could see Melissa McCarthy playing.
She is more the goofy sidekick kind of voice performance character.
@@ashakydd1 couldn't have said it better myself. She just doesnt suit the role.
Queen Latifah could.
Bette Midler if she were younger...but I would love to see him play the role.
Rest in Peace to Pat Carroll the original voice of Ursula.
Now if this Voice doesn't sound like a sea witch then I guess the sky ain't blue
The sky it's not blue...
“Do I help them…?”
“Yes BooBoo.”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Who remember that iconic shrimp🍤 being used as lipstick by Ursula
I think it was a sea anemone, but yes, I think about it all the time 😂
This is a fantastic rendition. I want to see a one man show with Titus playing Ursula!
LOL! Imagine
If disney wants to make Halle Bailey Ariel. I need Tituss to be Ursula... but they chose Melissa McCarthy instead.... ok.
MaiʻAna A. apparently it’s not confirmed so let’s hope they change their mind
Why make Ariel coloured and make Ursula not? She's freaking purple anyway
@@stanconnorstan4266 Because they're too scared, even though they're Disney, and know everyone'll watch their movies.
One has nothing to do with other...you sound like you're mad about a Black Ariel...which is ridiculous
Mary Miller i dont think theyre upset about a black ariel. it sounds like they’d like for this man to have the opportunity like the woman play ariel did.

I cried when I got to the last episode of Unbreakable Kimmy :’(
I love this song but "Too Many Spidermen" is my favorite one from this show.
If I were to make a version of The Little Mermaid he would DEFINITELY be my Ursula!!!! So much personality and talent. It's a crime not to cast him!!!
He said bish sign this fn scroll in such a musical way🤣🤣😭 I got my whole life!!!
If they do another adaptation of Once Upon A Time, he needs to be the love child of Scar and Ursula, he has both their qualities and sass.
I admit that in the past I've been a nasty
They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch
But you'll find that nowadays
I've mended all my ways
Repented, seen the light, and made a switch
True? Yes!
And I fortunately know a little magic
It's a talent that I always have possessed
Although lately, please don't laugh
I use it on behalf
Of the miserable, the lonely, and depressed
Pathetic
Poor, unfortunate souls
In pain
In need
This one longing to be thinner,
That one wants to get the girl
And do I help them?
Yes, indeed
Those poor, unfortunate souls
So sad
So true
They come flocking to my cauldron
Crying "spells Ursula, please!"
And do I help them?
Yes, boo-boo
Now it's happened once or twice
Someone couldn't pay the price
And I'm afraid I had to rake 'em 'cross the coals
Yes I've had the odd complaint
But on the whole I've been a saint
To those poor unfortunate souls
Oh~! Ariel!
What's it gonna be?
You wanna go up there and be with princey-boo?
Or stay down here with me?
You'll have your looks, your so-so face
And don't underestimate the importance of body language!
The men up there don't like a lot of blabber
They think a girl who gossips is a bore
Yes on land it's much preferred for ladies not to say a word
And after all dear, what is idle prattle for?
Come on, they're not all that impressed with conversation
True gentlemen avoid it when they can
But they dote and swoon and fawn
On a lady who's withdrawn
It's she who holds her tongue who gets a man
!
Come on you poor unfortunate soul
Go ahead
Make your choice
I'm a very busy woman and I haven't got all day
It won't cost much
Just your voice!
You poor unfortunate soul
It's sad but true
If you want to cross the bridge, well bitch
You've got the pay the toll
Take a gulp and take a breath
And go ahead and sign this fucking scroll
Flotsam, Jetsam, now I've got her, boys
The boss is on a roll
!
This poor unfortunate soul!
Thanks
*Now I’ve got her, girls
I love this especially because he put his own spin on it as opposed to delivering it the exact same way! I wish the live action movies would start acting more like the plays and less like exact copies of the original animated movies.
3:47 got me, I wasn't ready for that......LOL
Years later...few things still give me as much joy as this video. I just love this 😍 so much!
i love titus! hes so funny
best part of kimmy.
Gibbler????
Yeah he's the best
This is great considering Ursula was modeled after Devine, an incredibly famous drag queen.
Divine** not Devine 🤦♀️
This has always been a sorely underappreciated song. It's quite brilliant.
I think this is my favorite version, I love the dynamics.
Ive seen this song done so many times in Cabarets, but Titus's version is the absolute best! Ursula should be a drag role, always.
This is the best cover of poor unfortunate souls I’ve seen, I’ve kept rewatching this! Tituss makes this song his own! He keeps it controlled and steady with powerful characterisation!! DISNEY HIRE HIM FOR LITTLE MERMAID LIVE ACTION REMAKE!
I love this face he makes at 1:17 cause I feel like it’s so unique to just him and it’s like his little stamp of approval ugh I just love him
He’s way more talented than most singers.
Love how Titus did the "just your voice" line! It's a really brilliant move. Bravo! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I always come back to this video ❤
Tituss is a national treasure!!
1:50 is so effortless. that "sad" justs melts into the air and it feels so good
I want to animate this, like how Disney animators animated Robinson Williams sketches to persuade him to play the Genie in Aladdin
??
Did you mean Robin Williams ?
??
psiphyre oof, y e s
Beautiful. Perfect. Nothing to add.
Dude's right, this was a journey! Best Ursula ever
I never knew I needed this!
Dude! This cat killed it. Disney, what are y’all smoking? Not only can he give justice to Ursula’s inspiration but he has insane vocal range.
The only question, I have for a live action take is who’s playing Vanessa?
tituss needs to be cast alongside Hailey Balle in the remake! like now
hello from the future! I just saw the remake today and i kept thinking, “shoulda been Titus.”
True theatre actor!!! Every tone is on point. Such a natural.
Just saw Titus Burgess at City Winery in NYC. It was a magical way to end our visit to New York. Thanks Titus!❤
They shouldn't give someone a chance just because they are part of a community, they should give a chance to any talented individual regardless of who they are
Regain Turner YES YES YES
@@owlmycatxd4678 if a third of the actors auditioning were LGBT+ I'd be frankly amazed. In that kind of audition process it's reasonable to conclude that the decision was based on talent, but that's a far cry from what usually happens.
to say that only LGBT members should play gay characters, it's like saying that only psychopaths should play a murderer...the criterion to choose should be on their talent, not their preference, but i agree on that Hollywood, not only Disney, should diversify their portfolio in all matters of the cinema industry, acting, directing, etc.but the decisive point must always be to choose the right talent, no matter where it comes from...😊
This is the Ursula of my heart. Tituss Burgess, my Ursula FOREVER!
"If you wanna cross the bridge well bitch you gotta pay the toll"
😂😂
Take a gulp and take a breath
And sign this fucking scroll
Ok but the pianist is so gooood, especially when he mouthed 'just your voice' and the pianist couldnt see his mouth!
This is fucking amazing and everything!!! Tituss should be offered this role!
Tituss Burgess for live action Little Mermaid reboot. 🐙💜💯
I'm still salty that Disney didn't pick him for the role.
Titus is such a talented comedian and an amazing singer.
Booh Disney!
He is perfect. Goosebumps.
"You'll have your looks... Your so so face." 😁
I had goosebumps long after the song finished. Damn, that was awesome!
