My wife started out with a tilt head. I got her the Professional 6 for Mother's Day. The tilt head finally conked out. I had planned getting a new tilt head to compliment her Professional 6, but I walked into an estate sale and found a brand new Professional 5 for $125.00
Yes I don't usually leave comments but here I am 3 years later agreeing with everyone and had to let you know this was a great informed video.. I was a little overwhelmed trying to know which one to get because i know there's several different models but this video helped ALOT!! Thanks
@jesheaven7922 not in this house and not in many other houses I know of lol, but yes there are definitely plenty of dudes out there who would benefit from having one of these
@@julietteyork3721 That's a difficult call. I guess it would depend upon how you plan to use it. We had the bowl-lift machine first and thought that it would be good to have one with smaller bowls. Even with the newer wiper blades you have to stop the machine and wipe down the bowl with a rubber spatula now and then. As it turns out, the tilt-head machine is not that much of an improvement in that regard. The only real difference is the availability of glass bowls for the tilt-head machine. If you shop around the price difference is also minimal. Thinking about it, I would probably prefer the bowl-lift machine. Either way, you cannot go wrong. Both machines will serve you well, I'm sure.
Thanks for sharing, Bruce. Like Juliette, I am unsure. I like the idea of mixer that can handle anything I throw at it now and in 5 years time. Right now it's me and my partner. . So right this moment am favouring the Bow lift. It's size does not concern me. I dont my storing it in the floor cabinet (or is it crazy heavy?) My concern about it is its ability to deal with small quantity. You seem to suggest it struggle like Amy says? I like the convenience of the tilt head but am worried the shaking of the head will shorten its life span or that it struggle to make larger amount. You have both so are the ideal person to ask! Please help! (and stay safe in these crazy times!). Thanks Greetings from London, UK.
Just a sec - I had a bowl lift as my first mixer. I loved it and used it for years and years! My kids grew up on it, and there was nothing it couldn’t do. It was too big for storing on my counter and so I stored it underneath in a cabinet. It was heavy and a pain in the rear to lift up all the time and put it away. It finally broke (it is fixable but I haven’t done that yet-lol) but I was in the middle of a move and I was gifted a new mixer as a housewarming gift. I chose the artisan mixer. Now it sits out on my counter and I use it ALL THE TIME because it is right in front of me! I love seeing it on m y counter because it just makes me happy :). I now use it for more than just baking too. Don’t get me wrong, I still use it to mix cookie and cakes batter and I also knead dough in the artisan and the smaller mixer does fine with regular bread dough. I am also more apt to use the attachments i have, use it for mixing meatloaf, or shredding cooked chicken or even massaging kale for a salad. So maybe this will help you make up your mind. They are both great you will be happy with either. They are just different!
I inherited a bowl lift from my mom... which I bought for her years ago. She would do do HUGE batches of cookies and breads so it was perfect for her. I never had one Until she passed so I got hers. I don’t do near the quantity but it is a Workhorse... it’s huge, heavy and the bowl & attachments can be tricky to get on and off but I’m never limited to what I can make. Great comparison. I’m happy I have the bowl lift overall
This was fantastic. Thank you so much. it's so hard to find a true unbiased review and I loved how you went through everything. I also loved your husband piping up with those questions as well. He was very respectful and was not taking over. Where do you store all of your mixers? I also like that you don't have the typical RUclips kitchen where the kitchen is the size of my whole house.
I love my tilt head, it was a lot cheaper than the bowl lifts in my country, but I actually just love the way it operates and it's never missed a beat in the 8 years I've had it. I have empire red, it's gorgeous.
I grew up on the artisan tilt head using it often because it fit right under the counter and was so quick to use, “but” my mother never made homemade bread or stiff doughs, but lots of meringues, cookies and homemade cakes etc. It was very easy to add ingredients and remove the messy paddle. It also was white and never showed the dust of flour on it. I grew up and got a tall pro version in beautiful cobalt blue and it shows every speck of flour on it every time I use it for such and have to totally clean it each time. It was very hard to put on and off the bowl until I got used to it and now I can do it quickly, but I still struggle putting on and off the mixing paddle looking straight down without the tilt angle. It does take up more space, but I love that it is a work horse for stiff doughs. I also love using the very quick batch cheese shredder and or butter shredder attachment. I read that using the tilt version often for stiff doughs can damage eventually the joint of the tilt back version, but not the stationary taller version. My mother had her artesian tilt version around 40-50 years but did not bake homemade bread or rarely made stiff sugar cookie dough. So, it depends on if you are doing many meringues and very rarely stiff bread doughs really, or you are really into making stiff sugar cookie dough and bread dough often enough that it warrants the stronger motor and non-movable head. Having both would be nice but you do have to have the room for it. If I were doing it all over again, I would get white because I don’t remember my mother’s having to be swabbed down for every speck of flour each time of use. The colors are pretty, but definitely more upkeep to keep gleamingly pretty after each use. They are making a more comfortable handle now on the taller versions, that mine does not have. Besides the attachments, they do offer for more money, an optional smaller bowl/shorter whisk combo especially made for the pro line series for those who need to whisk meringues or smaller batches, which I plan to get.
I've had an Artisan (motor was always straining and finally gave up the ghost), a K5 bowl lift (loved it but it got to be a bit small) and now have the 7qt Pro bowl lift and it's fabulous. Does double batches of cookies, and breezes through bread dough. I'm taking this mixer with me to heaven.
@@MilkyWhite1 : The artisan didn't handle bread dough very well. When people ask. I always recommend the bowl lift 7 qt Pro. As an avid home cook I always save up & buy the best quality equipment I can afford. My German-American daddy ( a wonderful cook) taught me well. I miss him every single day of my life.
@@MilkyWhite1 :You can certainly get by with a hand-held mixer for making a cake, a batch of cookies, or whipping cream. I can understand the challenge of weight. I'll probably be charged for excess baggage weight if I try to drag my Kitchen aid into heaven. ;-D Btw, KA has recently added a new size to their lineup. It's even smaller than the Artisan. There are probably YT videos comparing the different sizes. If you ARE interested in baking bread but don't want the weight of a stand mixer, I really love my *Zojirushi* bread machine. I have the small one (makes a 1lb loaf) and its so easy and fun. It's also great for making pizza dough. :)
Thank you so much for making this video. I had no idea which one to get. I watched a lot of repair videos, so I knew the bowl lift sometimes doesn't get the ingredients in the bottom of the bowl, and the head tilt sometimes gets wobbly. But I just couldn't decide which one I wanted. Now that I've seen this, I'll go for the head tilt. I'll eventually add a bowl lift to kitchen, but head tilt first. Thanks again, you have no idea how helpful this was 😊
I have both a tilt head and a bowl lift. I owned a tilt head for 20 years and decided to upgrade to a bowl lift. My tilt head is still going strong! I will say it took me a while to get use to the bowl lift. It wasn't hard but it was different. I loved the power and the bigger bowl. Love the video, it can def help someone make a difficult decision when it comes to choosing a KA mixer. No matter which KA is chosen, you will not be disappointed. Oh, and I agree there is nothing wrong with a refurbished KA. My first Kitchen Aid mixer was a soft pink tilt head and it was refurbished. That was 20 years ago, it saved me money and hasn't died on me yet.
@@DEdwards247I purchased mine from an outlet that sold nothing but Kitchen Aid appliances. They had new and refurbished mixers and other appliances. That outlet doesn’t exist anymore 😢 here in Houston.
I’m getting my niece a Kitchen Aid mixer for Christmas. The closer it gets to Black Friday the more overwhelmed I was becoming. This video was SUPER DUPER helpful. I no longer feel overwhelmed, now I can make an informed decision. Thanks so much!!
I've have KitchenAid for 40 years. I actually bought one of the bowl lift mixers because of the amount of dough involved in a recipe. I didn't want the bowl to spin around when I had heavier bread or pizza recipes. HOWEVER, I returned the bowl lift, because A) I'm a one person household; B) the recipes I make (now) don't require a lot of dough; and C) for the reason Amy stated early on, the amount of room that you have to add ingredients, and also to add/remove the attachments, when you lift the tilt-head vs the tilt-head. Plus, easier to use the tilt-head than struggle with getting the bowl into the frame for "bowl-lift" version.
I just upgraded from a tilt classic to a bowl lift pro 5. I find the bowl lift is much more stable when kneading dough. I actually stripped out the bowl making pizza dough on the tilt once and had to replace the bowl. Also the spiral dough hooks works much better the the C hook on the tilt. I find it pushes the dough down to the bowl instead of climbing the hook.
Hmm! My bowl lift is shaking alot and I can't even mix dough for bread. So I intend to change it to a tilt. It is driving me crazy! I have to hold the bowl while it mixes. Should have tried it when I bought it that way I would have been able to return it.
@@njuhmbunwe6701 I will say that the tilt will likely be worse for shaking. At least mine is really bad when making dough. Have to hold it or it goes overboard!
@@njuhmbunwe6701 IF the Dough you are mixing is VERY STIFF - virtually ALL home mixers will shake a lot. The Tilt Heads will actually shake even more and they are LESS powerful than a Bowl Lift as well. REALLY heavy floor based Commercial Mixers sometimes have problems with Stiff doughs as well.
Ok. I officially love this beautiful lady and her presentation. She puts me in mind of the very beloved Julia Child. This is an extraordinarily well done video.
I've heard that you can't always go by the watts, it's the torque that determines the power. I saw your pan room tour yesterday and was really surprised to see that white bowl-lift mixer on the top shelf considering how heavy they are! If I stored one above my head, I would never use it. My aunt had a special cabinet for hers that lifted up and out to counter level--this was in the 70's and I was in awe because our family was lucky to have a Sunbeam. I have the Pro 600 and hate that noise as well. The 4.5 quart tilt-head really is best for most jobs. Mine is almost 30 years old and works great.
I enjoyed your comprehensive comparisons on the mixers. Excellent job! I loved how you caressed your favorite mixer. I have a tilt head that danced off my counter and fell on the floor. The starter switch got jammed. I just ordered a bowl lift as a replacement.
This was sooooo helpful! Thank you so much 😊. I just got my wife the 7qt after watching one of your videos because she’s been making breads and pizzas by hand, she absolutely loves it. I’m looking for an excuse to get a tilt head for smaller jobs and this video really helps! Thanks!
I was looking what to buy and got extremely confused so I looked for videos for some help. Happy that I found this because its really helpful. The comparison you've made helped a lot for me to decide which ones are my negotiables lol have a nice day!!! You're awesome 👌 thank you so much!!
Thank-Uuuuu soooo much! Amy this Mixer Review really helped making my decision on My Undecided decision of which mixer to purchase (it's July 5th 2023) and your review still going on Strong ,TFS. Blessings and Hugs.
I love the look of the bowl lift, and for whatever reason I think it's so fun to operate the lever!! I have a 5qt tilt head artisan and I bought a pro 600. You're right that it's too big for basic jobs, but I really kind of want to trade in my 5qt tilt head for the pro 500 because I just love how the bowl lifts work.
I started with a 4.5qrt classic tilt head and then added a 5qrt bowl lift for meat grinding and food processing BUT I really had the whine it has and am going to get the 7quart. I plan to add a grain mill also and I think the larger motors are best for the grinder & mill attachments- which is primarily what I use my mixer for. I really love the 4.5 quart classic tilt head for batches of cookies, cakes and muffins.
I did get a new kitchenaid fro Xmas think it’s a 600 but came with 2 size bowls and mixers, 10 cup small bowl and a 25 cup large bowl. I don’t know where he found it? But love it, for beating 2 eggs in the small bowl, and making bread in the big bowl.
I just bought the Pro 6qt refurbished and got it for a song. I've wanted one all my life. When my mom passed family members came in and they took what they wanted. One thing they took was my mom's KitchenAid stand mixer. My mom was quite the baker. I learned to bake next to my mom. I quit baking. I'm 66yo now and my granddaughter asked me for a recipe and how to bake a cake. I started baking again after all these years. One day it'll be hers just like my Corningware sets. I just bought her her first recipe cards set and box and sent her some of my faves. A mixer for me is spending a day in the kitchen with my granddaughter baking goodies.
I left my KA with a friend when I moved to Ecuador. Boy, did I regret not having one. Finally, I had an offer to bring one down for me so I bought a reburbished red Artisan and she, “Poppy” is my righthand girl. I make bread at least twice a week so she has paid for herself twice over. Reliable and beautiful machine. Six cups of flour is about maximum capacity, which is just right for me.
My pro 5 bowl lift mixer fits just perfect under my cabinets...that was a major deciding factor for me. I wanted to be able to store it and use it without pulling it out due to the tilt head. I also read over time due to the weight of the motor in the tilt head that it can become loose and wobbly and can impair some of the functionality of the speeds. I also wanted the higher wattage so the motor wouldn't burn out over time. That being said the tilt head is nice for additional ingredients I just think overall storage/usage/longevity the bowl lift is best for me! Happy baking!!
Not sure how long you're hoping it lasts but we've had our Kitchen Aid Classic since 1985 and it's still going strong. No issues with wobbly heads, motor burn out or functionality. These are workhorses no matter what style you get...the last mixer you'll ever buy!
@@3seasonscable_todd940 do you make pizza and bread dough with yours? I make pizza every week, and am having trouble deciding what model to get. I'm worried maybe the artisan won't handle the dough well, now? Thank you
I am imprented to like tilt head mixer because my mom used the tilt head mixer. I inherited my love for cooking from Mom too. Thank you for helping us understand the difference between the two types of mixers....love your show Amy!
I will be saving for the artison its just me and darling unless its a holiday. Im not likely to be able to lift it where i normally put our appliances if i got bigger ones. My school had tilt heads (I took every class i could that would feed me). I loved them. My only mixer currently is a cheap handheld electrical. I will be checking local pawn shops for a gentally used one. My brother found one early this year and loves it.
When I grew up, my mother had a Sunbeam Mixmaster, and I've always thought of that as "THE" mixer. Nowadays I have a Pro 600. Due to its weight, it's stored in a waist-high cabinet that I'm fitting with a pull-out shelf. At the rate I'm building my "dream" kitchen I'll be in a nursing home before I finish.
Excellent advise. Thank you so much. I have a tilt head but I'm a bread baker and the little artisan can't cut it . Still I love it for light jobs. . Your advise makes a lot of sense to me.
O my goodness Amy you're never gonna believe this but I just asked my husband for a kitchen aid mixer for my birthday. He said to find the one I want and buy it!😊. So I'm just about to start comparing to see which one I should buy and I find your video!!😳Thank you so much you explained things so well, now I know what to do...start with a classic tilt head and go from there 😉! Thanks again for the help, it's much appreciated!
Thanks for this video Amy! You convinced me to buy a bowl lift. I got a great deal on a Pro 500, in white just like yours. I still love my Artisan and it really increased my confidence in baking over the last few years, but the Pro 500 is SO much better for my pizza doughs.
There’s a 3 qt. Bowl that comes with a smaller whip that you can buy to use with the Pro 5 for doing your egg whites so you don’t need a smaller mixer for that reason.
Amy you answered my questions..great review now I just have to decide had the regular stand mixer for over 30 years and it conked out on me...will have it fixed but would like a back up ..it may be a tilt head for comparison thank you
Great review - Most helpful. I love all your different thoughts - especially "what we all grew up with...." It's a very powerful thing ! Many thanks......all the way from London.
I bought a refurbished Pro 600 bowl lift in Empire red, and it's a workhorse, but for many tasks it's just too big. I often find myself relying on my late Mom's 1970s-vintage Sunbeam Mixmaster that is more than adequate for a lot of my needs. I also have a generic hand mixer.
Thank you so much for the comparisons. I was going to get the bowl lift at first. But I am super happy with my tilt head. And super glad I got that instead.
Hi Agnes, I like the convenience of the tilt head but am worried the shaking of the head will shorten its life span or that it struggle to make larger amount or simple pizza dough. Can I ask what do you like like so much about it? :)
@@francoisona Not at all. I still have my mother's tilt head that works like a charm and it must be 50 years old. I gave it to my daughter when I received the bowl lift as a gift. I like the tilt head much better. It is much easier to add ingredients and get the beater on and off. If I were buying one, I would definitely buy a tilt head. In fact, even though I have a newer bowl lift, I am considering buying another tilt head and selling my bowl lift. The power difference is minimal to me. I mean, all of them are so powerful as compared to a hand mixer, that power is not a big deal to me.
Great Video, and I just want emphasize the point you made in 12:50. If you care about you sanity, buy the one that has a DC MOTOR. AC motors are loud and are less smooth. With this simple choise, you will go from a good mixer to a great one.
This is a helpful video, even years later. I just got a 590w bowl lift. I'm not a big baker, but want the ability to make breads, pizza and pastas. My husband wants to grind meat, so I prioritized a powerful motor. I purchased used on FB marketplace. Tons of KA's but good prices for the more powerful ones are tough. Mine was
So glad I discovered your videos Amy! Never really thought about the difference. Really informative video! In our kitchen, economy of space is most important, so tilt head for us to store under an upper cabinet! Maybe one day when my wife & I get our dream kitchen in our dream home, we'll spring for a Commercial 8.
Hi Amy! Your videos are awesome. So helpful. I am trying to decide between the Wolf 7qt Stand Mixer and the KA KSM7586PSR Pro Line 7 qt Bowl Lift Stand Mixer. I would prefer a tilt head but want a large capacity, so I have to get a bowl lift. In our family, we bake all the time, sometimes 2-3 times a day. This necessitates a mixer that can withstand a lot of use. We really want something that doesn’t shake on the counter when kneading bread dough. With our current KA, we use an extra bowl and extra paddle attachment quite often. Both mixers have good warranties. The downsides of the Wolf seem to be: heavy, expensive, and has limited accessories (no pasta maker, etc). The cost of an extra bowl is super expensive, over $200. I called Wolf and they said they will be selling a paddle attachment on their site later this year, but that will also be very expensive. As far as the motor, the Wolf seems more powerful but not according to the wattage listed. The Wolf is 500 watts and the KA is 969 watts. Is it easier to get the bowl in and out on the Wolf? Any other thoughts about these two?
Your Commercial 8 is the most versatile of all of them. You can purchase a 5 quart bowl to do smaller quantities, and KitchenAid also makes a 3 quart bowl and Combi-Whip that will fit on the Commercial 8 (I have one). The Ultra Power is great for someone on a limited budget, and it will run all the KitchenAid attachments. However, their power is more limited. All of the mixers in this video would be perfect for the needs of most home cooks, including the 4 1/2 quart Ultra Power. You do have to be careful with stiff dough, however. I would recommend the Commercial 8 for making bread on a regular basis. You need as much power as you can get for a stiffer yeast dough. It is nice when you don't have to pay the high cost of bread at the local grocer.
I concur. The pro-line models, of which the Commercial is one (the 6 and 7 qt Professional HD models are the other two and share the exact same mechanical components) are the next best machines in terms of power and quietness, but they're no match next to a vintage 10 quart Hobart if you can find one at a decent price and have the wherewithal to restore it ;-)
@@johnnyjimj: I agree on the 10 quart Hobarts. I have something similar in an old Berkel, and it's the one I use most often. Try a Hobart or something similar a few times, and there's no going back.
I've been trying to figure out which kitchenaid mixer to get for years now. Its an expensive decision. You helped me figure it out! I'm going with the pro 5 because I mostly want it for kneading bread dough.
I just unboxed my Christmas gift early from my husband. Now I know why he insisted..holiday baking is upon us! He got me a lift bowl. Eons ago he got me a different brand tilt head and I just didnt prefer it. It was loud and wobbly. However I couldnt make up my mind on the Kitchenaid cause I wanted it to fit under my cabinet with more power. The tilt wouldnt fit while mixing and the lift does even though its heavier but you can get the cute glass bowl with the tilt. Im just concerned with beating smaller quantity of items. Husband got me the Agave color and I love it. The lift bowl was on sale $100 less than the tilt. Such a great video thank you. This is definitely heirloom quality and will be passed down.
I love mixers. Baking and trying recipes is relaxing to me. I have three mixers so far and they’re my babies. Every time I get a new kitchen gadget, I welcome it to the family 🙃. I love watching your videos. Cause of you, I ‘m getting my 8quartz mixer from kitchen aid. I really was needing it cause I found the other mixers bowls small when I want to cook a lot. I have all the mixers accessories I like for my mixers. When I see your video, I’m glad to know that I’m not alone with my love for kitchen gadgets
Hi Amy, I love your videos! Your reviews are helping me to narrow down the stand mixer choice. I want to go with KitchenAid Commercial 8 qt (love the power level and stainless steel paddles) and I plan to purchase an extra 5 qt mixing bowl for smaller batches. Here is my question: it's been more than a year you have featured this model in your review videos...could you please update how do you feel about it? Is it still working good? Have you changed your opinion about this mixer? Many thanks and again, thank you for such a thorough job!
Thank you so much for this video. You are wonderful in explaining all the specifics. I wish you were here in my kitchen to tell me which one to actually move forward with!! Subscribed!
Interesting fact if you're looking for a Kitchenaid mixer - if it has a black speed control knob it's an AC motor and if silver it's a very much quieter DC motor. I bought a bigger than I needed Pro 7 due to it's quiet motor. It's quieter on 6 than the AC models are on 1.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm about to purchase my first mixer and this answers all the questions I had about the different kitchen aid mixers! I definitely feel like I can make a more informed decision now..
I am starting to look for one. I think the biggest reason is frequency of use and size of work. If you use it every day or two constantly then I would go for a heavy duty one. If you are doing baking once a month or even twice a month then I think the smaller power will do fine. Some have a fine vertical adjustment for the paddle so for instance if you are whipping only 2 eggs and you want to get closer to bottom of bowl you might find that feature useful.
What a fabulous video , y. Thanks so much. Glad I stumbled upon your video as I was busy searching for the KASM. Now I know what I am buying Artisan Tilt head 4.5 it is. 😊. Thanks so much
Can you tell me if the bowl are interchangeable? I have the Mixer KSM7 7QT bowl version that has the DC motor , but wanted to confirm if the bowls and paddles are interchangeable. If so, then I'll probably get the water jacket KN2WJ as I understand that it fits the 6QT bowl mixers.
So I have a KitchenAid stand mixer. That is a lift bowl. I love using it. The only thing I have issues with is the whisk head that fluffs like egg whites and stuff. Do you know how to adjust the bowl so I can do it without the whisk bending in the bowl?
I have a bowl lift and have considered the tilt head, but the power and stability of the bowl lift outweighs the change. My only issue with KitchenAid is the noise (screeching - common with both versions), and I wish they would offer the glass and decorative bowls for the bowl lift as they do with the Artisan. Same for colors.
Great review! Thanks! I have never pay attention to kitchen aid stand mixer. Just know that everyone has one in their home. Now in search to get one for myself too.
I am quite confusing kitchenaid in bowl lift 5qt has, pro500, professional 5plus, professionals hd and heavy duty 5qt. Do you if it’s the same or different? Thanks
Kacey K that’s the same problem I’ve been having. I can’t find any differences except in the motor power, I’m guessing as they release newer models, they increase the watts, as some are 315 watts and some are 500, and she mentioned in the video that they have been increasing the power over time with the 5 quart bowl lift models. Thoughts?
Very helpful video! Thank you so much! I was considering selling my bowl lift to get a tilt head but now I realize I definitely need to cross reference the bowl size, power, and stability before I do that! Thanks again!
Thank you for your very helpful review. Made it so much easier for me to decide which one will work best for me based on my own lifestyle, functionality etc.. Truly appreciate
I love my classic white tilt head, 325 watt, 5 quart better than my lift bowl. The lift bowl is very awkward when adding ingredients and when removing the bowl with mixes in it. The beater doesn’t raise high enough to get mixture off of it and into the bowl before removing the bowl. You have to tilt the bowl so far to get it out from under the beater that loose mixtures practically spill out of the bowl when removing it. It’s also difficult to get a spatula down in the bowl to make sure everything on the bottom is getting mixed in to a batter. Sometimes dryer ingredients are left at the bottom. The tilt one tilts the beater out and no problem getting your spatula down the sides to scrape the bowl all the way to bottom to make sure all ingredients are mixed properly. The tilt versions are cheaper than the bowl lift versions. If you lock the latch for the tilt mechanism while mixing, the mixer will not bounce.
Thank you! Idk why so many prefer the bowl lift because I have had a pro 550 for years that even with its huge 8qt bowl, it is such a challenge to scrape the sides. Often times things at the bottom DONT get mixed. Thinking of trading mine in because it’s such a hassle!
The bowl lift is a work horse. I’ve had mine for 25 years. My mom got one in the 80’s and used the bowl lift for 40 years before it gave out. My mom made dough in it daily for chapati’s. For dough making I think the bowl lift is better. It’s stronger. The bowl won’t spin out of its seat. For baking goodies, the tilt is probably easier to use. Mixing small quantities are also problematic with bowl lift. Despite these minor differences, I do love my bowl lift mixer because of its power.
Good point,I thought my 3rd use was breaking down due to the back bounce. I feel more comfortable using my classic k,aid mine is black.perfect for family of two.
hello. lovely video and very imformative. i have already the artisan and love it. however, i dont have the STIR option, so have to manually fold in my flour. Can you tell me how you fold in your flour and whether getting the industial mixer would be better as it comes with that option. I make cakes for local events.
So so pretty! Life long hot pink fan, so to see a kitchenaid in hot pink-I had to go for it. I just ordered the hibiscus artisan. I already have a Bosch, so I have a workhorse for the big stuff. I wanted a pretty one for my day to day tasks, easier clean up and to pretty up my kitchen. That raspberry ice would never be moved off my counter. 🤩 Thanks for all the great reviews and content. Your videos are like sitting in my super smart friend’s kitchen and getting the scoop!
The 5 quart bowl lift is 50% off and $70 cheaper then the artisan tilt head! I need something powerful for doughs so i’m glad I’m able to pick up the bowl lift!
Awesome video!!! I’m glad I watched it. This is the first video, and probably last, I’ve watched prior to making a decision about which mixer to buy. Thank you!
Thanks this helps! I have the professional 5 with the 350wat motor..... After a year long temporary living situation I pulled my mixer out of storage to fund that a rodent had gotten into the box and urinated on top of the mixer. The urine ran into the cracks and crevices. I took it apart and sterilized it the best I could, but I am just not comfortable with it. Time to buy a new one. So sad, at the same time hard to toss the old one in the trash.
You can get a small bowl with a whip to use on the large 6 and 7 qt models. The motor and gear transmission of the 7qt is the same as the 8 qt commercials model and I understand you can use the 8qt bowl and beaters on the 7qt proline
I just discovered your channel and love it! This video was VERY helpful in my decision, as was your comparison video with the Hamilton Beach mixer, so thank you for that. I'm trying to upgrade from my (very old, original early 80s) Sunbeam Oster! Lol. Never used, but always wanted a Kitchenaid. Quick question...... can bowl sizes be interchanged with the tilt head mixers? Meaning, if I get a 4.5qt for every day use, but need a 6qt once in a while, can I use it with that mixer?
My wife started out with a tilt head. I got her the Professional 6 for Mother's Day. The tilt head finally conked out. I had planned getting a new tilt head to compliment her Professional 6, but I walked into an estate sale and found a brand new Professional 5 for $125.00
Yes I don't usually leave comments but here I am 3 years later agreeing with everyone and had to let you know this was a great informed video.. I was a little overwhelmed trying to know which one to get because i know there's several different models but this video helped ALOT!! Thanks

FYI is is a present for the house not the wife. Think again.
@jesheaven7922 not in this house and not in many other houses I know of lol, but yes there are definitely plenty of dudes out there who would benefit from having one of these
We bought both, the bowl-lift for heavy doughs, the tilt-head for smaller amounts. It's a luxury, but we cook a lot and we don't go on vacation. :-)

I can’t decide which! If you could only pick one, which would you choose?
Bruce Boschek
Thank you
Thanks for sharing, Bruce.
Here I am asking the same questions 5 years later! Thank you!❤
This was fantastic.
Thanks for your comment. Will probably get a colored one because of the reason you noted. Want to make sure its clean.
Was your Artisan able to handle bread dough?
@@MilkyWhite1 : The artisan didn't handle bread dough very well. When people ask. I always recommend the bowl lift 7 qt Pro. As an avid home cook I always save up & buy the best quality equipment I can afford. My German-American daddy ( a wonderful cook) taught me well. I miss him every single day of my life.
@@ginawiggles918 That's too bad. I need one that doesn't weigh too much because I can't keep it on my counter.
@@ginawiggles918 Do you have to scrape the sides of your bread maker?
Where can I get refurbished on ?
@@DEdwards247I purchased mine from an outlet that sold nothing but Kitchen Aid appliances. They had new and refurbished mixers and other appliances. That outlet doesn’t exist anymore 😢 here in Houston.
I’m getting my niece a Kitchen Aid mixer for Christmas. The closer it gets to Black Friday the more overwhelmed I was becoming. This video was SUPER DUPER helpful. I no longer feel overwhelmed, now I can make an informed decision. Thanks so much!!
Danslyric, I just ordered one for myself. Just curious...what did you decide on? Ive been breaking my head for two entire days. 😂
Yeah sometimes the choice is just down to a person's individual preference or cooking style. I love mixers so I have both LOL! Thanks for watching!
Wow thanks Brad. Does the bowl lift struggle to do small amount like Amy says?
There was a part of me that thought that too.... And the other part that said ''She probably high, she's too chill. Like bob ross level of chill XD
I love how Eric works with you. Seems like he's a great partner.
Thanks!
Coolest husband award goes to you, sir.
Get a smaller bowl it fits
I was looking what to buy and got extremely confused so I looked for videos for some help. Happy that I found this because its really helpful. The comparison you've made helped a lot for me to decide which ones are my negotiables lol have a nice day!!! You're awesome 👌 thank you so much!!
Thank you for breaking it down!! I’ve been wanting one forever but just am like ugh… what do I want! I only bake for fun but girl I get it when I do.
Thank-Uuuuu soooo much! Amy this Mixer Review really helped making my decision on My Undecided decision of which mixer to purchase (it's July 5th 2023) and your review still going on Strong ,TFS. Blessings and Hugs.
Thanks for teaching me about these mixers, I enjoyed it! Thanks again!
First time watcher, you explain things so well and clearly. You know your stuff! Great video!
Hello 👋 Beautiful Lady 🌹..How are you and the weather condition like?
I left my KA with a friend when I moved to Ecuador. Boy, did I regret not having one. Finally, I had an offer to bring one down for me so I bought a reburbished red Artisan and she, “Poppy” is my righthand girl. I make bread at least twice a week so she has paid for herself twice over. Reliable and beautiful machine. Six cups of flour is about maximum capacity, which is just right for me.
This video has been very helpful as I am looking to replace my Classic Plus that is over 10years old. Works great, but need an upgrade on the wattage.
Thank you
@@CanalVerodid you buy one? I bake bread weekly and I’m not sure which one to get.
Best buy has the pro 5 on sale. Just got one today. Normally 499, I got it for 229 I think.
Thanks for this video Amy! You convinced me to buy a bowl lift. I got a great deal on a Pro 500, in white just like yours. I still love my Artisan and it really increased my confidence in baking over the last few years, but the Pro 500 is SO much better for my pizza doughs.
Awesome! You will have fun with it! I bet your pizza is delicious! Thanks for watching!
Got one today for 100 bucks 😁 barely used
There’s a 3 qt. Bowl that comes with a smaller whip that you can buy to use with the Pro 5 for doing your egg whites so you don’t need a smaller mixer for that reason.
Thanks for the information 😂....
Amy you answered my questions..great review now I just have to decide had the regular stand mixer for over 30 years and it conked out on me...will have it fixed but would like a back up ..it may be a tilt head for comparison thank you
Where do you get it fixed?
I own a tilt head and I love the ease in which you can remove the bowl with out tilting it
Great review - Most helpful.
I love all your different thoughts - especially "what we all grew up with...." It's a very powerful thing !
Many thanks......all the way from London.
I got it...
I need the BIG one PRO and the mini one... have you seen the MINI one?
This was a huge help. I got my 5-qt bowl lift refurbished in the early 90’s and just inherited a new Artisan. Thank you for posting this review.
I love the refurb that I got in the early 90s. It is my favorite! I hope you enjoy your new Artisan!
I also wouldn't get the glass bowl, due to it chipping or being dropped and breaking. I've seen the glass bowls cracking, chipping on a bake off show.
"Amen Sista... Amen" I opened up my little cafe because of Martha Stewart!!! Love her.

I have the tile head almost 38 years and still works great but thinking to get a new one
Thankyou for taking the time to explain the difference Ms.Amy!
This is very informative. I had no idea what the differences were. Thanks so much!
I just got the white classic that stylishly gets the job done…but that pink Artisan has captured my attention!!
Thank you so much for this information, I just couldn't decide which one I would prefer.
Thank you so much- this was such a helpful video. You helped take some of the anxiety out of this decision. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you Amy! Your video is exactly what I needed to make up my mind between the bowl lift and tilt-head!
Try a Hobart or something similar a few times, and there's no going back.
cnnw3929 do you recommend a kitchenaid commercial 8 over the Kenwood 7qt?
EXCELLENT Video...
Since this has been 4 years ago... has anything changed?
Thanks for that tip
Can you still get the GLASS Bowl in with the ARTISTIAN?
Thank you so much for this video! I'm about to purchase my first mixer and this answers all the questions I had about the different kitchen aid mixers! I definitely feel like I can make a more informed decision now..
Thanks for brain storming for us, I did learn a lot about the difference about each mixer with you today 💃🏻❤️
I am glad that it was helpful, Roxana! Thanks for watching!
My mother and Martha Stewart is my inspiration to everything I do today with crafting, cooking and decorating.
Remember in the big mixers you can now buy the small mixing bowl attachment and small whisk, I have it and they work
What are the right ones? I just got my pro 5 plus and want some smaller attachments.
I am OBSESSED with that pink one!!!!! Can’t find one anywhere
So I have a KitchenAid stand mixer. That is a lift bowl. I love using it. The only thing I have issues with is the whisk head that fluffs like egg whites and stuff. Do you know how to adjust the bowl so I can do it without the whisk bending in the bowl?
Thanks Amy! Everything I needed to know to help me make my selection. I appreciate you!
I have the white bowl mixer and wondered if I needed a head lift. I’m staying with my bowl lifter- thank you
I have a bowl lift and have considered the tilt head, but the power and stability of the bowl lift outweighs the change. My only issue with KitchenAid is the noise (screeching - common with both versions), and I wish they would offer the glass and decorative bowls for the bowl lift as they do with the Artisan. Same for colors.
Hello 👋..Beautiful Lady 🌹..How are you and the weather condition like?
Just bought the bowl lift in matte pink! Thanks for the information!
Hi Amy, please put a link where we can buy stainless steel attachments for the por line 7586PSR
Great review! Thanks! I have never pay attention to kitchen aid stand mixer. Just know that everyone has one in their home. Now in search to get one for myself too.
Thank you! I subscribed. I really enjoyed your comparison and honestly the way you see that one is not better than the other, they are just different
Thanks for your video! Funny, just purchased a white used Kitchen Aid mixer. Thought of Martha Stewart too! ❤
What color is your pink artisan?
Hi Maggie! It is Raspberry Ice. Unfortunately, it is a discontinued color.
Thanks for all the great reviews and content. Your videos are like sitting in my super smart friend’s kitchen and getting the scoop!
The 5 quart bowl lift is 50% off and $70 cheaper then the artisan tilt head! I need something powerful for doughs so i’m glad I’m able to pick up the bowl lift!
Joshua Gonzalez where would you find the 5 quart bowl lift for that discount?
Amira Elsayed Kitchen aid always has huge holiday sales on mixers! I got it around christmas time.
I bought a 7qt bowl lift to make my fresh milled bread. I use the tilt head for regular baking
Meaning, if I get a 4.5qt for every day use, but need a 6qt once in a while, can I use it with that mixer?
what is the minimum egg and flower limit in the commercial 3 eggs? 500g?
