    I retired my mother's early 90s tilt model this past summer, having used it since 2006. I now own and use a refurbished lift stand professional 600 model purchased from the KitchenAid website. Love it and the larger bowl and power. I store it on top of my counter, and it works quite well!

    Thanks for the detailed comparison! I’m still using an early 1990s KSM90 tilt model. Houses and kitchens are very small where I live so the larger models although desireable, are just not practical. I use it for everything except my rye bread because that really doesn’t need a mixer.
    ETA: I only bake using the mixer about once a month and am not baking commercially so everything is small batch. So if someone is looking to just get started with baking or has a tiny kitchen, a used KitchenAid Classic is a great entry level mixer.

Honestly, a tilt head probably would have been the best choice for my baking needs, but I do love to make breads, cinnamon rolls etc so I purchased the bowl lift model…to me it seemed more versatile that I could make small batches or larger. I've watched about 10 videos in the last few days -received a KA Pro 5 Plus 5 qt bowl - 525 watt motor for a xmas present from my daughter -- It looks so big in my kitchen even thou I have a fairly big kitchen I have things everywhere. She got a good deal - $275 on Black Monday - was debating exchanging for an Artisan -for the size - but I can use the bigger one for small jobs but I can't use the Artisan for larger jobs so in the end, the wattage is the most important criteria. I was surprised to learn that the Lift Stand has been around for 20 years - thought it was a recent introduction - so it has had time to work out bumps. You had the best presentation of any by far!!! Thank you for offering it. 79 in NE PA

    Hello from Toronto. This is very interesting; thank you. I have a KitchenAid KSM5 mixer from the late 1980s. I love it. Apparently, it was the strongest model that they had at the time (they did not have the range of models then that they have now.) It is in very good condition, but it needs a checkup. May I ask where you purchased your Commercial 8-quart mixer? Due to the pandemic, there are shortages of stock for many products, and I have seen these Commercial ones online for future deliveries on two Canadian sites. I had also thought of perhaps getting a Kenwood Titanium, as I like the stainless steel tools that come with it. But, KitchenAid would be easiest to get repaired if the mixer had an issue. BTW, I think the KitchenAid Commercial mixer truly is intended for commercial kitchens, as well as home kitchens. There is a video by KitchenAid showing it being used in a French pastry school, and the chef says that it was developed by professionals, with professionals, for professionals. Anyway, thanks again. I've subscribed to your channel.

    Hi there I would like to know how do u wash or clean the gard grill. After adding chocolate or other liquid that really gets the gard grill dirty. Because it’s impossible to take it off every time after use with a flat head screw driver to wash. I would really like to know if there is a easier way to wash or cleaning it.

    • @cansanity
      @cansanity Год назад

      No I do not know of an easier way to clean the grill that is part of my Commercial KitchenAid. I find that it is always best when using any of the KitchenAid mixers to wipe up any spill or splatter with a warm soapy cloth immediately after using. If left to dry on it is much harder to clean. There is a pouring shield for some models of the KitchenAid mixers. I have do have one for my Heavy duty model, but honestly, I hardly use the pouring shield. If it gets messy, I just make sure to wipe it down immediately after use. But if you want to see if the model you have has a pouring shield here is a link with a list of models that have that accessory.

    HI, I do have the tilt kitchenaid and when I make bread 1 loaf ( 4 cups of flour) my machine have a hard time kneading the dough, and the dough doesn't stay on the hook, the dough tend to slide on the side of the bowl. I am thinking of buying a bigger model Professional 600 Kitchenaid. But my concern is does it worth to pay so much for only bake bread.....If I can get a deal maybe

    • @cansanity
      @cansanity 2 года назад +1

      Hi there. If your dough is sliding off the dough hook, it sounds like your dough is really wet. If your ingredients include butter, then when this happens you can first mix the dough, using the dough hook, and then refrigerate the dough for 4-6 hours or up to overnight. The dough should then firm up, after which you can then knead the dough by hand for a couple of minutes. Then rise the dough according to your recipe. Buying a bigger model will not help you with this problem. If the dough you are making is really stiff and just going to the side of the dough hook as you mix it but sounding like it struggles as it is going past the dough then this is a different situation. Can you elaborate more on the recipe you are using?

  • @rbh00723
    @rbh00723 2 года назад

    So I'll say that we own a 5 qt kitchen aid stand mixer which is a tilt head and while making our Christmas cookies the dough is so hard the mixer shakes a lot like it's going to break. Where the motor connects to the base needs some kind of way to adjust the tightness

    • @cansanity
      @cansanity 2 года назад +2

      Yes, because the tilt model design allows the beaters to lift out of the bowl, it will not remain rigid when beating stiff doughs. This happens when I use my ultra power lift to mix stiff cookie dough too. I bought this particular model used and have been using it for about 6 years now. It is still going strong.

    Which would you recommend for cinnamon rolls and pound cakes?

    • @cansanity
      @cansanity 2 года назад +1

      I use my lift heavy duty KitchenAid mixer for breads and cinnamon rolls. I haven't made too many pound cakes lately so I just looked at a couple of recipes online. The tilt models would be great for that because of the tapered bowls. (Great for creaming the butter.) If you make small batch cinnamon rolls, then the tilt models would work fine too. So, if you want one KitchenAid mixer that handles small batch everything, I would recommend a tilt model with a 4.5 - 5 quart bowl.

    What would you consider to be a small batch of dough for these models?

    • @cansanity
      @cansanity 11 месяцев назад

      Good question. You can easily make most cookie dough recipes in the "tilt" model that is in this video. Here is a recipe that I make frequently called "Mama's Chocolate Chip Cookies" on Cansanity.com at this link cansanity.com/?page_id=1544 If you are asking about bread recipes that I would consider to be small batch it would be for one or two loaves. Here is an example from our website for "Sourdough Sandwich Bread" cansanity.com/?page_id=4424. You can certainly use the "lift" model for these as well but they would process fine in the "tilt" model as well. When I mention small batch this means one regular batch for the most part. As opposed to double and triple batches of a recipe.

      If making a small batch of pizza dough I use my ultra power tilt model. If making a double or triple batch of dough I would use my heavy duty lift but only because of the larger bowl. So if you are looking to purchase a mixer and want one for small batch mixing including making pizza dough the tilt models should be sufficient. I would suggest getting one with a 4.5-5 quart bowl for small batch mixing.
