Canadians are awesome when it comes to acknowledging the opponent for their efforts. Instead of putting their team down, they uphold the qualities shown by the opposition. They understand what it means to those young Latvians. A lot of people in Europe (mainly here in Czechia and Slovakia) think that Canada is full of themselves when it comes to hockey. I think the injury rattled the team, they never recovered from that. Let’s hope they shake this off and get back on their game. Or it’s going to be another early exit…
@hockeyaddict7007 lol chemistry is part of skill. Top players don't need multiple games and practices to adapt to atleast 1 other player. The coaches should be changing around lines by now
@hockeyaddict7007 so you don't think this is ever the case for every other team Canada? They always play teams with more chemistry. The Spangler Cup is even worse as it's club teams vs team Canada but Canada still wins regularly and passes circles around other teams. They don't though they circle around like chickens with their heads cut off. If you can't see this idk what to tell you lol.
@hockeyaddict7007 I'd put my money on any past Canada world Jr. team beating Latvia. I've watched ever year this year and last year the teams have lacked chemistry. It's too many guys who think they're better than they are looking off teammates and trying to do it all themselves. Also you do understand team Canada at the Spengler Cup also couldn't make an NHL team? It's Canada's worst vs teams that have played professional hockey together for years. Team Latvia does not all play together all the time. In fact alot of the Canadian players played minor hockey together and against eachother just like every country. Acting like this team Latvia is special is ridiculous. Not that hard to see Canada took the wrong players, put together the wrong lines and have poor teamplay and strategy
From puck drop - Canada was terrible - the panel gaslight the viewership about how well they play. They sucked against Finland too - granted they won yet their play wasn't great! I'd love for Canada to win but last night's game was deservedly won by Latvia!
North American hockey players lack intelligence. The penalties are uncalled for ie Gibson. They only know how to shoot themselves. Too cocky. They did not deserve a win.
Exactly. This panel is a joke. How about some real analysis. Canada is a garbage team and was last year too. Won't get better if you keep pumping the tires of your opponents.
Like it or not, this is huge for the game of hockey. For a country like Latvia to come into that environment, a true road game, and beat Canada, it is going to do wonders for that country and that federation

Canada has all the tools to win this still if they can capture the negative energy they are feeling now and channel it into a positive response. As a former competitive athlete I am sure many would agree that it’s better to lose the first game than the last one.
Hate to say it as an American but probably a bigger upset than that in terms of the hockey... maybe not the geo politics of the day in age. As I was telling my wife, more people live in the Kansas City Metro area than in Latvia (2,392,035 vs. 1,871,871) and KC not that big of a city in terms of population.
@@INMATEofARKHAM1980 was a MUCH bigger upset, not even close. Olympics vs WJ is totally different. Historically dominant professional team vs amateurs. Yesterday was a great win for Latvia though.
Massive props to Latvia for pulling off the upset. Hopefully the Canadian players are able to go over the tape and go back to the drawing board against Germany and the States. Also I think it’s important to remember that these are just kids in a nation that expects nothing but gold when it comes to international hockey events. It’s a ton of pressure on them as it is let alone being on home ice
thank god canada didnt bring junior stars like Micheal Misa (1st in the OHL in scoring and 30g in 30 games) and Andrew Cristall (2nd in scoring in the WHL behind stud McKenna and actually well ahead if it was points per game since he missed a few), or the guy picked 3rd overall last year (3rd overall but not good enough to play vs Latvia ->though only 48 points in 28gp in the OHL...so, he clearly sucks this year). ...npc speak: "but but but...points aren't everything!" ....ugghhh...no...nope...they are when they are the most in the most competitive league on the planet.
Andrew Cristall has out produced every other major junior player for the past 1.5 years, and it's not close. He is at about 2 ppg over that span playing for a barely mediocre team. He should be running our powerplay.
If you take the top 10 in scoring from all 3 Canadian leagues you’ll find almost none of them on the roster. Lots of politics and nepotism ie. Oliver Bonk being selected 2 years in a row because his dad played in the NHL. Rehpkof being a healthy scratch is a joke.
The Latvia skaters did such a great job of checking up off the O-block and switching it down on the split, great game of hockey great performance Latvia ways to go.
Latvia can always surprise you. They have good goalies and a good work ethic and at times they have produced great goal scorers.Never underestimate them and I think this is exactly what Canada did.Lesson learned?
Anything can and does happen, but upsets like this almost never happen. Latvia has never beaten Canada or the U.S. in this tournament until yesterday. Very happy for those kids, but this is highly unusual.
Congrats to Latvia! Well earned win. I am glad to see this tournament with some parity. Blowouts are boring and unenjoyable to watch. I don't really take the WJC seriously because of all the lop sided games, so results like this are good to see. As for Canada, getting taken down a peg or two early on isn't a bad thing. A little humility is helpful when you are a favourite. And you will never go undefeated in a legitimate tournament. Better to lose now than in the medal round.
Canadian here, Latvia did not outplay Canada however they shut them down and didn't allow any room for error, well deserved win from Latvia and I hope to see them in the playoffs!
This is great for hockey! It keeps canada on their toes and this will have a huge boost not only in latvia but international. And its more fun to watch too.
Our nation, underestimated Latvia. Canada started a 17 year old goalie. Why? To build confidence. This tournament show cases, each country’s, best-of-the-best. With this, Canada’s goalie had a great game. But. This loss in my opinion is on the management & that late elbow we took. Latvia in the last 2-3 years has made major leaps, obviously Canada, forgot to take the blind fold off when they woke up! Shake it off. Now.
Hockey in Canada is dying a slow death. Too expensive, low birth rates among red blooded Canadians, and mass mass immigration from third world poor countries who give two effs about Canadian tradition. In 20 years hockey will be an after thought.
I had a feeling more in the game that Latvia would some reason could win this game. Canada was really trying to get that beautiful goal. Don't get too fancy Canada or you won't win... this was a wake up call 🤙
Canada left behind elite talent. There is no world in which Beaudoin, Bonk, Howe and etc. should have made the team over Misa, Cristal, Sennecek, Parekh and Yakemchuk. They kept legit talent and goal scorers off the roster. Congrats
TOTALLY agree. Who the heck picked this team? Misa is the top scorer in the OHL with 30 goals and 61 points in 30 games but not good enough for Team Canada.
Andrew Cristall. There is no WJC eligible major junior player that has come close to matching this guy's offensive production in the past season and a half.
It was good for Latvia and it was good for the Canadians. Canadian players will not take anything for granted going forward. Don’t underestimate any team.
Hockey Canada has fucked Canadian hockey so badly. I hate USA hockey as an American but the Canadian game has become so soft and you’re seeing the result of that rn.
Because Latvia won against Canada, this made me want to hear Grapes belt out the “God will punish you for your sins!!!” outburst from when we beat Denmark 14-0.
Latvia goaltending was great + they did a great job of keeping the shots to the outside. That's how you coach to beat a better team. If Canada doesn't shape up, the US will destroy us.
US hockey fan. I only root against Canada when they play the US. But even MORE than that I root for GREAT HOCKEY no matter who wins or loses. Great games and Great upsets spread the game and make BETTER PLAYERS everywhere.
Mark Messier expressed his concern over the cost to play hockey in Canada, and the decline in the number of kids playing hockey in Canada. I know we still have great players and a strong passion for the game, but I personally have noticed a big decline in the quality of players this country produces over years past. Goal tenders is one of the big red flags, but we'll see.

Definitely would have been nine goals had not been for their goalie. Guy was unreal
@@BoboMcBooboynot really they had a bunch of shots from the perimeter
Do you believe in miracles?
🇨🇦 Congratulations Latvia
Embarrassing. Canada has looked terrible since the exhibition games
thank god canada didnt bring junior stars like Micheal Misa (1st in the OHL in scoring and 30g in 30 games) and Andrew Cristall (2nd in scoring in the WHL behind stud McKenna and actually well ahead if it was points per game since he missed a few), or the guy picked 3rd overall last year (3rd overall but not good enough to play vs Latvia ->though only 48 points in 28gp in the OHL...so, he clearly sucks this year).
...npc speak: "but but but...points aren't everything!" ....ugghhh...no...nope...they are when they are the most in the most competitive league on the planet.
Andrew Cristall has out produced every other major junior player for the past 1.5 years, and it's not close. He is at about 2 ppg over that span playing for a barely mediocre team. He should be running our powerplay.
Misa sounds like latvian surename... doesn't he have latvian roots?
This is probably the last straw for Justin Trudeau
Canadian here, Latvia did not outplay Canada however they shut them down and didn't allow any room for error, well deserved win from Latvia and I hope to see them in the playoffs!
fairly contradictory statement there. Didnt outplay them, but they did shut them down and no room for error.
Well, Latvia did outplay us, that's the reason that we lost
You don't know hockey if you don't know guys statement can be true@@heathclark318
Shut up with your stupid excuses. Canadian hockey is dead.
@Maximum-qn1dr there goalie making 50 plus saves is why we lost. canada outplayed them on offence and defence
This is great for hockey! It keeps canada on their toes and this will have a huge boost not only in latvia but international. And its more fun to watch too.
At the end of the day, hats off to Latvia.
Now.
That net minder is a champ.
NHL material for sure.
Latvia is taking over the earth LOL!!!
I predicted Hockey Canada had big brained themselves into a bronze medal when the selection camp roster was announced.
Tij Iginla and Riley Heidt missing too
@@DragoonARC I think they will be lucky to get a bronze. I doubt they make it to the semi finals.
I also appreciste an underdog but this is so utterly embarrassing for Cdn hockey.
Canadian here. Proud of Latvia now
It was good for Latvia and it was good for the Canadians. Canadian players will not take anything for granted going forward. Don’t underestimate any team.
Hockey Canada has fucked Canadian hockey so badly. I hate USA hockey as an American but the Canadian game has become so soft and you’re seeing the result of that rn.
Dievs Svētī Latviju ❤❤❤
Congrats to Latvia, well done, take care of that goalie, hes a gamer for sure, brilliant performance. 😊
Because Latvia won against Canada, this made me want to hear Grapes belt out the “God will punish you for your sins!!!” outburst from when we beat Denmark 14-0.
Overconfident and lost what an embarrassment and this panel is just as guilty of talking about the overconfidence and it shouldn’t even be a match
55-22 shots on net. Sit down
@@caperboy1169Apparently most of those shots weren't of high quality.
Latvia goaltending was great + they did a great job of keeping the shots to the outside. That's how you coach to beat a better team.
If Canada doesn't shape up, the US will destroy us.
Good for Latvia, they worked hard.
A GOALIE who was on raised his Team to a higher level. Canada is not out by no means. Play is just beginning in this Wonderful Hockey Tournament.
Kudos to Latvia. What an absolute embarrassment to Canada. We should have just sent a Jr. B team to this tournament. Just a shameful performance.
Future Maple Leafs.
Leafs want more primadonnas
This is great for the Latvia hockey program and international hockey.
