I just love the old music for The Big Match - way better than the Match of the Day theme.

Phil Nutt had to retire shortly after that game due to damaged cruciate ligaments. What a shame at only 17 years old.

I remember Johnny Giles when he took over at West Brom talking about not tolerating indiscipline in the players. His retaliatory actions rather undermined the message!

Some very good players on that pitch

That pitch looks great for December. By 1970s standards at least.

QPR came second in the First Division that season, only losing to Liverpool by one point. Football was so much less set in stone than it is now. The big four or five rarely change these days, whereas between 1973 and 1984 teams that came second to Liverpool were Ipswich, Watford, Southampton, Nottingham Forest and QPR as mentioned. None of these teams would get anywhere near the top four of the Premier League nowadays.

22:51 I initially thought that was Terry Venables in the sheepskin jacket next to Dave Sexton, but he'd gone to C. Palace by this time, hadn't he? And the guy the other side of Sexton looks familiar, but I can't put a name to the face.

Terrible lunging tackle by Charlie george @ 11.00 full force studs on Masons Ankle !! deliberately .. The refereeing was sometimes atrocious

yeah, but how can 2 refs be totally at odds with the rules on foul play Charlie george got no more than a word in his ear

But Fucher was ok to stay on the pitch ? If the ref had done his job and sent Fucher off, then Giles wouldn't have made the tackle.
Both tackles were as bad as each other.
      The only constant in football.
      Poor and inconsistent refereeing .
