The organ itself is a work of art! Look at the filligree on the keys! Nobody would have the patience (let alone the money) to do that anymore. Hearing one of the greatest organ works ever written and watching this fine performance is a bonus! Can you imagine the stamina and strength to play this on a mechanical tracker organ?

Wikipedia cites sources that say this church, the Waltershausen Stadtkirche, aka Gotteshilfkirche, the largest Baroque organ has. The Waltershausen Stadtkirche also serves as the model for the Dresdner Frauenkirche, which was recently restored to its original splendor. The organ also plays with a grave, wonderful splendor. Such a pleasure to listen to it played on by H.A. Stamm.
"Love" the person who says this is too fast. I don't know how fast each half breaks out, but E. Power Biggs plays the combined Fantasia and Fugue within 5 seconds of the time that Stamm has combined on the two separate videos.
@Randourum It isn't him on the organ. This is a DVD about Bach's greatest works. But still, I do enjoy watching these and listening to them whenever I have a free moment. I must buy the DVD's.
It takes a higher level of cultural development to be able to appreciate this music. In the society, in which Beethoven is a dog, and Michelangelo is a mutant turtle, it is impossible to enjoy or even meaningfully cognitively process this demanding music. I don't blame thier inferiority as much as I blame their loud and imposing dumbness.
@@comradebork You have to consider when this was uploaded. RUclips used to have a 10 minute limit for video length. I believe it was still that way when this was uploaded, meaning that the fugue would get cut short if uploaded as one video.
AMAZING that he is the ONLY person I have ever heard (besides myself and a friend) who plays the high C instead of the incorrect D. (Of course because this organ most likely HAS no D) Still, it's a miracle to hear it with a C) And he is the only organist I've ever heard who doesn't put a giant space before the first structural shift. And subsequent sections. If Bach wanted a colossal space there he would have written one. He was not incapable of writing rests. However, why do so many people re-write Bach in the opening bars? The first chord in the left hand is of quarter note value. It doesn't matter that it creates a little dissonance.
It used to be far more difficult to upload longer videos to RUclips. When this was posted, I believe the limit was about 10 minutes. Now it's possible to post videos several hours long.
Wrong. It's not too fast. You're just used to everyone playing it like a free-for-all dirge. I am certain Bach intended this tempo and the basically strict sense of meter. To me and many others, it is of UTMOST interest to hear the piece played like this, as there is zero indication that it should be otherwise. I'm tired of hearing everyone mess with it and romanticize it with excessively inappropriate ritards and fermatas.
Damn, I'm good.
You are the best!
Is it any wonder you sired 20 children?!
My favorite thing about this piece is Bach wrote it for a job interview and he DIDN'T GET THE JOB
Then he went home and made another baby
My favorite thing is the piece itself. For so many reasons.
What? Really? He could’ve been Dracula’s personal organist 😂

Listened to this bwv542 masterpiece since 2012, never gets old. Ages like fine wine

I enjoy this fast tempo. The introduction feels much more relentless this way, whether that was bachs intention or not I like the effect very much
Ганс-Андре, наверное, счастливый человек... Играть на таком органе! Здоровья и творческого процветания! Навряд ли прочитает...
So nice that the organist is impeccably attired
Deze organist is altijd een betrouwbare man.
Essa música é fantástica! Minha parte favorita é no 3:10.
Que legal saber que há mais brasileiros que apreciam música de órgão! Meu canal hoje em dia é só de arranjos para órgão :)
Beautiful music from a beautiful organ!
Magnifico

Only an unhappy person does not like a composition by johann Sebastian Bach!

so nice to see no one disliked this wonderful piece
alison picket Sorry ... I want the fugue too. And it's the *video* getting the thumb, not the piece or even the (excellent) performance.
It's got one "thumbs down"
