That may be true at times, but why are people THANKING the person who made the comment. I would like to say that not everyone who plays organ is an ingenious organist like Hans Stamm. There are varying degrees. MANY organists with degrees in organ could not perform any of these major Bach virtuoso pieces anywhere NEAR the level seen here, if at all. Many organists never even play recitals. They play church organist jobs, which is fine of course. Believe me, most people who play organ are not from another planet. They're just from New Jersey, Staten Island, Detroit, etc...

@@present3348 I didnt listen or piano, I think its lack of power and specific tone of organ, also you cant play long notes on piano who need to be loud and to make them sound clear. Listen just this version of Hans Andre Stamm and you cant go wrong.

A wonderful performance of a fabulous piece of music. This is my favorite work of Bach and I fell in love with it when I was nine years old (48 years ago) when I borrowed a record of it from the library. I always enjoy hearing a new (to me) organist play it because this allows me to hear it again for the first time.

Design, 'beautiful monster', white painted with gold ornaments clean as the pure sound, the reverb is not amounted, all calibrated, the organist Hans André Stamm is absolutely perfect, I didn´t know him, it was a pleasure listening to him, his way of particular toccata is pure perfect, especially the second movement Adagio, the flutes he used are crystal for the ears. 1715 J.S. Bach est à Weimar et a été engagé par le duc de Saxe-Weimar. J.S Bach a trente ans.

Didn't know there were so many critics out there with an autographed copy of Bach's "My greatest hits" album. Bach was the best and he knew it. He played his way, fast if necessary to prove his point. Probably got it from Buxtehude on his visit to the master.. A Bach purist will also play it his or her way.

Keep in mind, Baroque tempo markings weren’t always explicit in terms of beats per minute. Having said this, I think Stamm plays most of Bach’s music at an appropriate speed. The only time which he really played anything fast was his recording of “Christ Unser Herr zum Jordan Kam”. Even then, I actually liked this interpretation too.
Lastly, kind of irrelevant, Stamm is the one organist whom I have never heard mess up. He plays the notes well enough that you can hardly hear him mess up. If anything, he’s very underrated as an organist!

First of all I shall thank for publishing this masterwork. Three short considerations: I believe in Bach willing to express the stupor of human intelligently glimpsing at a superior, divine, peace and imperturbability, still surviving the pathos and humanity.
I have appreciated very much the balanced, sensible interpretation offered here, it's precision in every single point still does non prejudge the completeness and overview of the complete piece. Finally I confess a lot of this success to my ears my be due to the enviable and rare richness and greatness of this magnificent organ's sound.
P.S: I can't help recalling Horowitz's mistake in the first bar in Busoni's piano transcription of this, in Carnegie hall 1963 I think...😂 I liked that aswell in its interpretative difference though..

I can't believe that one have to explain you the meaning of the word "excelente".Thus, your statement is incomprehensible to me.

Well, Mr. Stamm, after enjoying your version of Langlais' "Fete" I decided to look up other pieces you've played. This piece just happens to be one of my very favorite organ pieces and you do a magnificent job. I disagree vehemently with your critics below who claim that you rush through the piece. Your clarity of phrasing has impressed me elsewhere and here as well. I believe Bach intended this to be a jovial, upbeat piece and I believe your tempo captures this intention. I believe that a slowing of the tempo would make this Italianate piece too severe. Thank you for your interpretation!!

Couldn't agree with you more. How I wish I had been blessed with sufficient talent to play the organ to this standard. As it is I have just sufficient ability to know how poor a player I am, and that's given me a lifetime of frustration and regret! LOL!

Don't beat yourself up, Wurlitzer895. Mr. Stamm sets a rather high bar.

That's a very kind comment to make, and I do appreciate it. Don't get me wrong; I rejoice in talent - just sometimes though, I wish I had some myself!! Now, it's back to my stern practice regimen!! LOL!

I actually think this piece wasn’t rushed. The toccata’s tempo here was very appropriate. The only thing I notice about the fugue is that he couples the hauptwerk & brustwerk, whereas in all other recordings, the fugue is the only movement where there is no manual coupling.

Just heard the Fugue at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC this evening. This is better, more rhythmic version. Thank you.
