Can you imagine growing up in the mid to late Fifties!!! Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, JP “the Big Bopper” Richardson, Dion & the Belmonts, amongst many others! So incredibly sad what happened early Monday morning, 3rd February 1959 😢💔.
I remember this song - it got me into trouble !!!! Between my 7th. to 8th grade, about '57-'58, from elementary school to junior high I spent much of the summer, every Friday night, learnig how to dance on the front porch of a neighbor's home. The girl across the street taught me us how to dance. It was fun.... I was really prepared at the first "sock hop' in junior high. It was called a sock hop because we had to take off our shoes before entering the gym. I was dancing the newest step when a teacher, Mr. Pitts, grabbed me on the shoulder and said: "BOY - YOUR OTTA HERE !!!!!' He kicked me out of the gym, accusing me of doing the "Dirty Bop". That is when you move your feet and body at the same time - it was later called the "Twist" and became popular. Well, I received a lot of attention and over a dozen class mates followed me out of the gym wanting to learn this new dance. Looking back, it was an age of innocence and simplicity, which may never return.
I'm not even from your generation but oddly I felt nostalgic, haha. What a fun story :D and lol at your teacher, he might faint if he sees the dance moves of today...
alfajuj saw your comment.I'm 72 years old now.I'm Italian American.I am so proud that we Italians contributed so much to American doo wop.Randy and the Rainbows "Denise" and others.
This song reminds me of summer, specifically going to my grandparents and heading over to my great grandpas house. Had lots of fun. May my great grandpa rest in peace love you pa
Dion and The Belmonts....just pure class, style, talent, grace.....NONE of which is present in today's vastly overpaid and under talented "artists". No comparison !!!!!
People seem more genuine and innocent back then, a sense of community. Lets bring it back. I know some cities its still going. But certainly not all. Cheers
I'm on a sweep right now listening to 50s this past hour. Already hit up Ritchie Valrns "come on let's go" Danny and the Juniors "Rock and Roll is here to stay" a long with Chuck Berry "sweet little sixteen"
I make it a point to watch this video every six months. It makes me feel good and reminds me that there was a time when people were fun loving and innocent. Too bad we can't re- capture those memories/feelings. Our children will never know what they missed.
I'm 72 and was a kid listening to this great song and many others back then. Really fun to see the comments from the young teens today that love this sound!
Having been born in 1990 it is hard to listen to this music with people my age. What a beautiful time this must have been. America seemed so right then and was expressed in the music. Thank you
Grant Freeman: Don't despair. If you read the comments you'll find that _many_ millennials appreciate this music and speak with regret about not having been part of Dion's era. Young music lovers get a bum rap. They are as capable of enjoying old-time rock 'n roll as anyone. Great tunes aren't limited to the era of their origin.
I lived it. We had the music, cars, and the girls were girls...Not trying to recapture my youth but just enjoy a 50' or 60's CD and cruising in my Vette...During the late 50's and 60's I drove Chevy convertibles and hardtops, most 3 or 4 peed V8's...I even gave my girlfriend (wife) a '57 Ford with a police interceptor engine, that Fairlane 500 would honk....Reading the comments here brought back a lot of memories, thanks.
1958..... Was that Yesterday ? Let's see..... 1958..... I was still in grade school.....back then.... these guys were also young too.... Great group...... They had some some great music out Love singing alone with these songs..... I know them all by heart...... Thanks for sharing a memory......

i am 14 and i really love this. they put so much work into their music its unreal. you can here the difference. this music has real soul and tells a story and speaks from the heart! the wore nice things for appearences. oh how i wish the music industry was still like this
True! Me too i'm. 16
Me too im 13 bout to be 14 in like 5 days I wish music was still like this and I ask kids at my school and they say its dumb and im like no yall are stupid , immature and far from respectful
@@chatadaroach3036 Glad you like it. Greatest music there is. Imagine being a teenager when this music came out, like I did. I relive it everyday through RUclips and Sirius
@@juliant43 yep I wish I was born back then things were way better
@@chatadaroach3036 do u still love music from the 50s ? Cuz I'm 16 and love music from the 40s - 80s lol
Dion really had the girl's going crazy. They were pretty cool😎
It's May 2022 on a Friday afternoon n listening to Dion n the Belmont's.
✌️
Im at work it’s 5 am 😂
Still love this music…raised on it!
I interviewed Dion once when I worked at Dick Clark Productions and the man had SOUL.
What wonderful choirs! What a wonderful time!!!
On my list of top 5 doo-wop tunes ever. The bass vocal is awesome!
Yeah Carlo Mastrangelo (RIP) has an awesome voice.
Fabulous group of singers.
A Bronx Tale scene ⚾ My favorite Dion song of all time!
The guys are so handsome..... why can’t we have this now????
@@matthewp9156 that’s just not true lmfao
@@matthewp9156 Hilarious!
@@matthewp9156 because men are encouraged to be less masculine with every passing year among many other things
@@matthewp9156 Have you seen the feminists of today??? Trolls would be a compliment lol
Because no men nowadays
Takes you back after all these years!! Forever young❤❤❤
I grew up durning this era and I listen music to remember a much slower time and simplier time.
2021 anyone? I wish this kind of music was popular again.
Brilliant song, I am 74, but feel like a teenager again, such good tunes, such happy days.
One of the greatest songs of all time
Man, Dion's voice is just so good. Something about how sharp and crisp it is I think.
Jester it's freaking amazing
you should thank carlo, dion adopted his singing style from carlo
hard to believe most of the audience are well in their 70's now
Shit dolman. Is that why i feel like shit. Kidding bro. thanks for a very good post. 70 yrs old
Many in the audience are well into the GROUND now.
If they made it that far, you know Vietnam...
I wish this was still popular today
errrrr - it is!!!
Mick all the doo wop groups now are so bad compared to all of the originals, with maybe one or two exceptions
Now that is harmonious, don't care where you come from or what year, you will never see in 2024 a boy band hit it like this. Awsome.
Well, I received a lot of attention and over a dozen class
mates followed me out of the gym wanting to learn this new dance. Looking back, it was
an age of innocence and simplicity, which may never return.
omg!the dirty bop aka twist was clean compared to what is out there today lol
What a dick mr. Pitts 😂
moweddell a lot of things can cycle backwards.. but not that.. growing up in it but stuck in an old school mentality has been a challenge for me..
Oh that's interesting I always wondered why it was called a sock hop, makes sense
I'm not even from your generation but oddly I felt nostalgic, haha. What a fun story :D and lol at your teacher, he might faint if he sees the dance moves of today...
I would love to hear this get airtime again!
Yeah me too on the 107.5 channel.🔥 instead of the new music.
Pure Italian American culture. Absolutely brilliant.
alfajuj saw your comment.I'm 72 years old now.I'm Italian American.I am so proud that we Italians contributed so much to American doo wop.Randy and the Rainbows "Denise" and others.
@@frank1fm634mostly Italian one was irish
This song reminds me of summer, specifically going to my grandparents and heading over to my great grandpas house. Had lots of fun. May my great grandpa rest in peace love you pa
Dion and The Belmonts....just pure class, style, talent, grace.....NONE of which is present in today's vastly overpaid and under talented "artists". No comparison !!!!!
Love the song. But these foos lack rythm
People seem more genuine and innocent back then, a sense of community. Lets bring it back. I know some cities its still going. But certainly not all. Cheers
I loved this song in 1958 when I was 10 and I still love it
I'm on a sweep right now listening to 50s this past hour. Already hit up Ritchie Valrns "come on let's go" Danny and the Juniors "Rock and Roll is here to stay" a long with Chuck Berry "sweet little sixteen"
Not to mention Bobby Day "Rockin Robin"
From. Canada. / I’am. 76. years. old. now. , they. sound. good. but. the. original. group. the. EARL’S. we’re. the. best. / have. a. good. day. / Bill. S. Canada
The incredible thing is they are doing this without out any autotune or enhancement whatsoever just genuine talent
I make it a point to watch this video every six months. It makes me feel good and reminds me that there was a time when people were fun loving and innocent. Too bad we can't re- capture those memories/feelings. Our children will never know what they missed.
Jared Fekete yea
.I watch these old videos, EVERY DAY. I'm an old fart, 67.
I'm 72 and was a kid listening to this great song and many others back then. Really fun to see the comments from the young teens today that love this sound!
This era of music is the best in history imo. From this to Motown, there is no comparison to anything now
Having been born in 1990 it is hard to listen to this music with people my age.
What a CLASSIC - it's hard to find a better 50's doo wop rocker than this gem !
I'm 14 and love this music but I hate tiktok
One of the best white doo wop groups of the 1950s. I think they are much under rated!
The year I was born! Absolutely love this song.
Some serious music from back in my day---love these guys and their songs.
1958..... Was that Yesterday ? Let's see..... 1958..... I was still in grade school.....back then.... these guys were also young too....
Great group...... They had some some great music out
Love singing alone with these songs..... I know them all by heart......
Thanks for sharing a memory......
You nailed it ! Back when you needed real talent.
Words cannot capture how great Dion and the Belmonts are in this incomparable appearance. They capture the zeitgeist of that moment so perfectly! Dion was the man!
This music is both wonderful and timeless. To this day it can be enjoyed by everyone, whether you're 10 years old or 90 years old.
I was 6 in 58 yet I know every word .love it
