    I’m Thai and impressed with your narrative. It’s very informative comprehensive. Nationalist governments always focus only on Sukhuthai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin kingdoms in Thai school ignoring older Tai and non-Tai states, e.g. Lanna, Dvaravati. Modern Thais are admixture of Mon-Khmer-speaking Dvaravati people who settled in Chao Phraya valley since prehistory and the Tai who migrated from the north. DNA tells the truth.

    I'm a Buddhist with ancestry from neighbouring Laos. Very impressed by your thorough yet succinct summary of two millennia of Buddhist history in Southeast Asia. Lao Buddhism and Thai Buddhism share overwhelming similarity, although Lao Buddhism has a slightly stronger Brahmin and Tai Folk Religion (satsana phi) influence. Buddhism in Laos didnt go through the Thammayut and Ajahn Mun reformations. (Even though Ajahn Mun was ethnically Lao and spent his childhood there, the Thai forest tradition is uniquely Thai Isan.) @@Hp108-7 bro, I am in complete agreement with you, but revival and reform both are important aspects of any culture, recently Tamilnadu government make law that they will allow people from all caste to become priest, they will have an entrance exam and some year training in Vedic ritual to become priest, then all brahmin organization went to TN High court and claimed that only brahmin are allowed to become priest, TN high court agreed with them and halted other caste priest from Temple, however it's completely illogical. If you don't allow us becoming priest in temple inspite of achieving all knowledge, training and required criteria, then what else you expect. Hinduism is completely taken over by brahminvaad which is completely against Vedic scripture, they have converted occupation dependent varna into Birth dependent caste, if you really study Veda and Vedic literature in details, you will find that brahminvaad don't worship any Vedic God, neither they follow any Vedic scripture Ritual, while Most Vedic God's are worshipped in Buddhism as Boddhistva, Indra is worshipped as Vajrapani, Surya is worshipped as Suryapravhu, and as other 24 protective deva, while Brahminvaad neither worship any Vedic God nor they follow any Vedic scripture, Buddhism is successor of Sanaatan Vedic religion it's our duty to make people aware about it, we need to understand India was a superpower under Rule of Buddhist emperor like Ashoka, Nanda Or Harshavardhan while we all know what happened after post Aadishankaracharya Brahminvaad, only Buddhism has power to unite all divided caste and regain our past glory🙏🙏

    Great video! Thanks. Only a small mistake: The forest Tradition was formed/ initiated by Lungphu Sao and Lungphu Mun. Both came from the same temple and did not believe their teachers that nibbana could not be attained anymore. So they both went out into the forests, Lungphu Sao the senior one and Lungphu Mun. Both attained to arahantship and many of Lungphu Mun's disciples reached Arahantship. More than 60 monks closer to 100 attained to Arahantship and this makes Thailand the "richest" country in the world in terms of Arahants.

    Please note Sanskrit is not script but language and its script is Nagri which also used to write Marathi , Hindi etc languages . As per language experts / scientists like Dr Rajender Prassad Singh , Shri Gunakar Mule etc that almost all scripts/ लिपि of south East Asia including Nagri has been evolved out of धम्मलिपि , which is the oldest written and deciphered script and language is Pali/ Prakrit mentioned at Samrat Asoka ‘s 3rd Century BC rock inscriptions. The further older script is from Indus Valley seals ,which till date yet to be deciphered. About 15 characters are resembling with धम्मलिपि बरखाड़ि / characters…hence possibility is that धम्मलिपि may also had evolved from that. Anyway scripts / languages are like living organisms…getting ever evolved /changes ,keeping present days needs and circumstances.

British called this R as Rama during a time when they occupied India, Thai people never called Thai king as Rama in Thai language. Just like how British called Thai capital as Bangkok, Thai people never called Thai capital as Bangkok in Thai language.

    Thai people are descendant of many ethnics, you shouldn't expect the irrational sudden extinct of all indigenous ethnics after just the coming of Tai immigrants. The majorities of Thai lineages are actually the ancient Mon (indigenous) and Tai (immigrant from China, chased away by Han Chinese then migrated south). Mon are people of Dvaravati kingdom (a kingdom to the west of Isanpura, kingdom of the first Khmer). Dvaravati's Mon civilization is the predecessor of Khmer civilization. Dvaravati itself inherited so many cultures, religion, and knowledge from ancient India. There are many civilizations around this area that inherited prosperities from India so no one can actually claim the origin but India itself. Cambodians who claim originality are just the uneducated. They misbelieve they originated all civilizations of southeast Asia but in fact their Khmer civilization is but the last of the ancient civilizations of ancient southeast Asia. You can check timelines of Dvaravati, Srivijaya and Sri Kaset compare to Khmer empire and see for yourself.
    After the merge of Mon and Tai people who became the first Thai group following the fall of Khmer, the modern history of the land had begun. All the Cambodians know is they're the predecessor to Thai modern civilization but with their lack of education, they never aware that many civilizations of this land had came before theirs. Some of them even misbelieve that Khmer civilization is the origin of the universe.

      I dismiss uneducated Khmer nationalists claims. But be careful with your claims. Funan was also the first one and before Dvarawati. The achievements of Dvarawati by the way are MINIMAL, in terms of archeological remnants.
      People need to be wary of uneducated remarks, or go back to where they came from. Regardless, you have no basis of legitimacy. The first kingdoms were Khmer and Malay origins (Bujang Valley, Funan, and other places in Borneo or Java). Mon people were another subbranch of the austroasiatic peoples, Just like the Javanese, Sundanese and Balinese, and the list continues. Go back to where you came from.
      The Mon were the least in achievements compared to the rest of us, including Cham kingdoms. regardless of their help in spreading Buddhism, and their newly achievements under a Thai identity.
      Those reading the comments, please thoroughly research southeast asian history before these invaders trampled and claimed our legacy and create problems. Thai nationalists are also as ridiculous as the rest of the claimants in southeast asia, and most of us are aware. Not everything is Indian either. They have Austroasiatic and Southeast Asian influences in Indian culture.
      Tai Kadai invaders, including Vietnamese, are a source for the mess in the mainland. And the same goes for Mon traitors.

      @@gold-toponym Another Cambodian claimer. Again and again, far cry from reality, you just try and try to claim your ancestry as the origin of SEA civilizations, ignoring tons of facts and proofs which are against your self-centered claim. There are 50+ ruins of Dvaravati and other worldwide-known older than Khmer civilizations in Thailand today whose architectures manifest originality of Khmer's, widely proving Khmer isn't the origin of any civ. and you even disqualify them just by remarking those civilizations as "MINIMAL achievements". Of course the Khmer was the most successful group before the Thai, it surpassed civilizations before it, but you can never just claim the most successful as the origin of all. Next time try to be more rational.

    • @winachance4315
      @winachance4315 2 года назад +4

      @@gold-toponym No. You just said the civilizations before Khmer weren't as successful so they didn't originate and Khmer becomes the first civilization ? That's the funniest self-theory ever 🤣

    • @gold-toponym
      @gold-toponym 2 года назад

      @@enlightenedlearner434 no where did I claim that. Khmer and the siblings Cham, Javanese, Malay, all had successful kingdoms. Dvarawati is not on par in such aspects. There's even older Khmer ruins than dvarawati, just not in Thailand, if that's the argument. I am not talking about other Mon kingdoms of the north and west, they had their own achievements.
      Sorry that you had felt inferior that you had to mix with invaders to overthrow a power. Maybe that's why the Burmese did what they did.
      Go back to where you came from.
      And no. Khmer are not the origin lmfao, only uneducated Khmer make that remark. And it's due to our relationship to the neighbors and a terrible recent history. Does not make their claims right in any way. That's plain stupid and they make us look stupid.
      Your nationalists are just the same way. So there's no comparison. Indonesians are the same to Malaysians. Doesn't make it right
