@@BMWE90HQ that's true. Most foreign investors who invests in Thailand probably understand by now, that even though there're regular coup, every decade or so, but the Military never interfere with Businesses, they only care about their own power and the Monarch. Myanmar's junta on the other hand is as oppressive as they come. As we can see. The country's on complete shut-down as they continue to mass deleting their own people.

As a Burmese citizen living in Thailand for quite a few months here, a bit shout out to the loving, kindness and understanding that show by the Thai People on us Myanmar people. I have some conversations with Thai people from different walks of life and I can feel their empathy that we're sufferings. I thank to the Thai People for helping us out and making us to feel like home away from home for us. I do apologize for some manners that our fellow countrymen have done in your home. The other big flaw with Myanmar is it's a military state.
It's why they moved their capital from Yangon to Naypyidaw.
Both to provide palaces for their biggest military leaders and to isolate themselves from larger population centers to avoid the disgruntled masses who could revolt.
That cost em a ton of money, too, and none of it went to lifting the people out of poverty or making their institutions and economy more productive.

You could also say some parts apply to Bangkok and it's predecessor Ayutthaya as both were chosen to be built in the center of the country so as to monitor the country's territory better inside-out, especially after the conquest of Isaan, the North-Eastern states. But due to there being a stable figure, namely the monarchy, the military didn't go rampant (and also both agreed to a symbiotic relationship) and the country began developing once the Western powers arrived at the country's doorsteps, due to fear of being colonised.
Myanmar's "stable figure" was assassinated upon signing indépendance papers from the British. Rumours says it was from a extremist group originating from the military so no symbiotic relationship there.
Both Thailand and Myanmar is a export-heavy economy but Thailand has used its decades of experience and headstart to improve its infrastructure so as to be attractive to expats. Unsure when or if Myanmar will ever achieve this in the near/immediate future but it'll be interesting to see.

Geographically Myanmar has Ancient City in the middle of desert, Snowy Himalayan Mountains, untouched Achipelagos and Islands, even tropical Jungles. It would have been one of the best tourism hotspots like Thailand if not for the political situation. Even Burmese like me cannot visit those places in the border because the civil war going on for more than 60 years.

I'm from Thailand and I completely agree. Myanmar has so many stunning islands that are just waiting to be discovered. And the snowy mountains! Most people associate SEA as a tropical paradise, but there's so much more. I'm sure places like Phuket (or Thailand in general) would be less crowded if Myanmar's tourism was as developed as ours. I really hope things improve there so tourists have more options since it's only getting more crowded here. Hugs 🫂

India and Myanmar had both been under British rule and both had/have very diverse internal cultures, yet, after fighting for their freedom, they proceeded along different paths and now are quite different in their development, safety, and military involvement. Why?

    • @asiran4571
      @asiran4571 2 месяца назад +1

I don't know much about India situations, but I guess the Indian think of themself as one country. There may be political factions but all of them compete for the one big cake of India.
Myanmar is not so. At the time the northern part of Myanmar and Thailand have lots of small city states (Mostly in the mountain ranges). At the height of colonization, the ones near Thailand were convinced by Thai to join us or you would be eaten up by the white ppl. It's helpful that Thailand tried to peacefully but firmly establish influence with them for years, by marriage, sending governors, trade, have them send their sons down to study in Bangkok.
On the other hand, The ones near Burma were VERY resisting to join Burma. In the end, they were tricked by Burma. Burma told them to temporary join with Burma to prevent British from annexing them. After the white ppl are gone, they were told, we will give you your independence. Well, the white ppl are eventually gone. These city states (who never think of themselves as Burmese) want independence. Burma said nope. Wars ensued. Burma had to create very strong military force to quell the 'rebellions'. And, well, that very strong military force become the government, and the rebellion is still going on to this day.
That's what I learn as a Thai, anyway. Myanmar ppl may think differently.

Things to know: Thailand has an informal economy, accounting for 48.4% of GDP, ranking 14th out of 158 in the world. You can see this from the street food stalls and private shops. Some shops make almost 5,000 baht a day, but that doesn't include the per capita income. My family runs a grocery store in the village, but they were able to send me to study abroad. You can ask a food cart vendor in Bangkok how much they sell per day, and you'll be shocked.

As a Thai, I feel like the worst part of Myanmar history is that they were colonized by Westerner and the Western Ruler's using "Divided and Rule" method to rule over the country for years, that why there are so many small ethnic group which usually rebel over the central military government. I deeply feel that Myanmar citizen loss many opportunity to thrive, nevertheless I welcomed every Burmese who seek safety and normal standard daily life in Thailand which did not have to worried about their life.
For Thai, the corruption is main problem as well as the civil servant system which is not so effective, that why Thai was always "Developing country" since I was born.
But Thailand also has its bright side, they didn't racist whether where you came from, not because they are weak but they are generous people as nature and influenced by Buddhism.
My ancestor come from China mainland since WW2, and Thai-Chinese people were also one of the main group of people that make Thai more developed. However, right now the modern Chinese people were not like in the past, they came and take-it-all, they didn't give back to Thai, that why many Thai people's including me feel not so good about them.

Myanmar was fully colonized and still overcoming all the economic and social consequences of that ... Meanwhile Thailand was able to maintain its sovereignty and independence, more or less. Thailand and Japan are the two major Asian countries that kept their sovereignty and independence from European colonialism, so it's no surprise they have a strong, proud, independent identity and power.

There are certain things you can't do in Thailand like talking bad to the Royal family. But guess what, every country is unique with their own cultures and way of life. You can't apply other country's way of life and law and expect it to work in Thailand, which is what the Left and Move Forward Party love to do. It just doesn't work. Thai people love their king and royal family. They've done so much for the country. Tell you this much. Due to inflation, the prices of goods have gone up and the people are suffering. Some foreign tourists visit and only see the surface and think it's different from what they see on the news. In healthcare, Thailand is known for its high-quality medical services and is a popular destination for medical tourism. The country has also made significant strides in technology and innovation, with several Thai companies and institutions gaining global recognition. @@torquemada4327 It is easy for you to think simplistic ways on complex situations from afar. There are prejudices in any race or country. In Myanmar, the prejudice started way back when the British colonizers brought in Bengali laboreres from Bangladesh who later identified themselves as "Rohingya". There were earlier Muslim inhabitants who were Arab traders who called themselves Rohingya (Meaning those who settled in Arakan or Rakhine state), but the new arrivals identified with the same group even though they were racially different. The British gave them arms when they left Myanmar (Burma) when they were losing the war to the Japanese imperial army, and the so-called Rohingya committed atrocities against the ethnic Rakhine population using the arms that the British left. Since then, the ethnic conflict started in Rakhine state between the Rohingyas and the Rakhine ethnic groups. Later, the armed Rohingyas demanded a separate Islamic state within Rakhine. This is when the government stepped in and military operations started against the separatist Rohingyas. All that followed was a result of these complex political situations.

If the ruler of a nation truly cares about the average person and works to improve the life of the average citizen and is not controlling and power hungry, then an authoritarian controlled nation (where the people have no say in their government) do have a chance at living a better life. Usually authoritarians are paranoid, controlling, suppress the masses and do not allow a free media. Dictatorship controlled nations live and die based around the personality of the ruler. This is a foolish form of governance that was the historical model. All power is resident within one person. Recent history has demonstrated that democracies (that are not corrupt) are the superior option. They thrive economically and the average person tends to live a better life.

For the same reason Ethiopia is doing better than somolia. Thailand and Ethiopian borders and countries have a fairly long and natural history in the region. Whereas Myanmar and Somolia were created by colonial powers initially. Specifically colonial powers that could never fully understand the ethnic, political, or cultural history of the region they governed. That’s also why Sudan is tearing into 3 pieces. Thailand and Ethiopia were natural regional powers whereas Myanmar was drawn by British colonial administration. There are some countries that are doing ok that were draw up by colonial powers (India is a great example), but most the time these countries start to break.

Myanmar's monarchy was removed by UK, which left the military as the only centre of power. Without the monarchy, there is no respected and revered body to represent the people in national decision making. And there is no one to control the actions of the military. Just look at the role of the Thai monarch. Without it, Thailand will become another Myanmar.

I doubt why the modern burmese political powers after WWII didn't reestablish the new monarchy to be the center of nation's power. It's not unusual in the past that the most powerful person established himself to be an emperor and had the new dynasty. The Thai took over 4 million Myanmar people in the last 10-15 years and half of them became a full Thai citizens. Now that is like helping out a small country while Thailand ain’t that better off or on par in economic to the standard of the first world developed country.
Kudos to them because even westerners countries who called themselves the colonizers of the indochina pacific less than a century ago -unfortunately still showing no signs of taking the responsibility for all the mess they have left behind in the southeast Asian. All of these countries should at least give back what they took or in compensation.
May be it is time that Thailand stop taking in all the problems from neighboring countries whether they are Myanmar, Cambodia or Lao and ignore all those western powers in pressuring Thailand to help the less off neighboring countries on humanitarian relief reasons. This is not the part of the negotiations under creating stability international relationship policy with any developed beneficiaries richer nations.
We don’t see Singapore or Malaysia allowing illegal work force/ low skilled laborers nor war refugees entering their country as much as the Thai does and these two countries are the richest in the regions.
At the end of the day all the westerners democracy values only represent how they had terribly just failed in demonstrating any good example themselves in helping others.
Today, so far- better off nations only ever thought about profiting their own country in the long run if they were to get involved with any internal problems from other states.
Thailand has so many internal problems particularly corruption. Therefore, stoping the hardship investment on who isn’t Thai might be the first priority. It is wiser to used the country’s resources in making Thailand better and stronger, which should have been the only focus of development push forward as a nation.
No one can help others properly unless they are really ready in a better position and situation themselves first.
The Thai need to free their themselves from being taken over economically by the Chinese and stop all of those wealthier foreigners taking advantage over Thai-citizens because of the weak Thai baht currency.
Retaining economic balance over warfare relationship that is not even yours = certainly will only give Thai people harder time particularly during the global bad economic crisis.

@@fajarh979 if that is the correct umbrella -covering all illegal immigrants as well as the legal in status = then Malaysia government is doing a great job. We read somewhere that - the Thai have nearly 20 million out of their 70 million’s who aren’t Thai but settled in the country.
This includes all the rising numbers from the other nations you had just mentioned who is making their way to Thailand. We saw a big rise from Philippine too on top of the normal Cambodian, Myanmar and Lao recently.
After visiting Thailand on koa-sarn road in 2023 we particularly saw more of the third agenda coming into Thailand for prostitution with the Philippine being the largest new comers providing this illegal services. Which is unusual -as we thought the Philippine are mostly Christian or more under the western influences, so being accepted for being other sexuality types shouldn’t be a problem. Unfortunately, we were told that this isn’t the case in many southeast Asian countries, and - because Thailand has better freedom and more loopholes for illegal immigrants who is seeking this kind of jobs going on within their borders. The Thai corrupted governing in many aspects are upfront shameless and this administration only worsens what is bad to worse.
Hence, This is the reason why Thailand should tighten their immigration controls fast and put a shorter dateline limit on sharing free visas with the lesser off neighboring nations. Otherwise, Had the Thai carried on their system this way- the whole country will soon be flooded with all kinds of illegal activities and become a new safe havens for criminals escapees from both international and domestic gangsters.
Thank you very much for your information on Malaysia immigration numbers.

We are actually surprised that Thailand would invest in electric cars because of all the yearly flood you have going on in your country. But,,,,,, since this is the fact - then in this case, electronic vehicles made in Thailand may be coming out with higher quality made than from china.
Unfortunately, China market will be hard to beat in all perspectives. It will take the whole Thai nation to come together in allowing some Chinese products to come in to Thailand just to keep the economic relationship sweet between the two countries. However at the same time -if all Thai people don’t buy or stopped supporting any Chinese products at all, or - as much as possible avoid buying foreign brands good just like how Japanese people politely declined using or buying products that isn’t made in Japan to the extreme point where that non Japanese products pulled itself out altogether. = then = Thailand might have a chance in keeping the job balance for your own people and keep productivity in Thailand going. It is not a conspiracy but survival as a nation that can stand on their own terms of economic independence. Japanese people are great in this sense of unity.
Most of all your Thai government must go big in supporting campaign for home sustainable economic policies which we couldn’t see happening at the moment in growth or development. To be honest, we only saw increasing Chinese factories, hotel, businesses being allowed to built more and more each year as we visited Thailand - so what does this say about the situation.
