    Cutting myself was extremely embarrassing but I wanted to keep it in here in hopes that it helps people become more safe. The biggest mistake I made was looking through my camera as I was cutting while talking at the same time. Sometimes when we get too comfortable with doing something it makes room for error. I am so grateful for these gloves, now I just need to get better ones lol.

      The honesty about the whole thing is what I admire. It is a little embarrassing to cut yourself on accident but we’ve all done it. This is a perfect reminder that no matter how comfortable you get using your tools they are often times still dangerous.

    I hate to say it, but I have cut myself with most of my best and favourite knives, usually when first trying them out. Not because I wanted to see how well they cut me, but usually because of a small lapse in concentration which shows how easy it can be to do!! (note to self---exercise more caution when using a knife!). Love your videos Melissa, keep them coming!

    • @MelissaBackwoods
      @MelissaBackwoods  3 месяца назад +3

      100%. Every time I cut with a knife I make a mental note to follow a set of rules I have established myself. This time however I was multitasking and not thinking of those rules while talking and filming through the camera! It could’ve been a lot worse so I am grateful that it was only nick

    Do a segment on "peasant knives", historically popular knives for utility and low cost: Opinel, Mercator Black Cat, MAM, Barlow, Higo no kami, and svord are the ones I have. Include history of the knives, like the Barlow style was first made in 1600s England. The New Zealand Svord is based on larger German/Italian designs from the 1400-1500s. Generally low cost and super useful pocket carry knives.

    The spearhead blade on the Divergent looks cool as hell - which is important. I also just love that the one that didn't cut so well was called The Inert. So silly. Thanks so much for the heads up comparison on the Schrades .Went to Blade HQ and bought 3, (2 for my friends that constantly ask me if I have a knife which I ALWAAAAZE do!)but I don't trust them not to drop them) and ended up buying a ZT 0452 Sinkevich in the blue carbon fiber which I've been wanting to purchase for over a year now. In love with the blue ZT and the Divergent is in a 3 knife budget EDC rotation (Bestech Sword fish & Civivi Praxis Ultem) respectively all of which have been great. I have panic disorder and they give me great comfort i.e. security and fidget devices /particle separation tasks. Hi there. My name is Pete and I am new to your channel. I also have a knife collection. It's not like yours in that I have around 120 knives.they are mounted on a wall that is 10 feet long by 8 foot tall. Every inch is used up They range in price from $50-$1500. I used to own many inexpensive knives but got rid of them and only collect fine steel knives. SOG, BUCK, KIZLYAR, GIL HIBBON, FALLKNIVEN, and BARK RIVER. Sog and buck make up most of my collection. I use the buck 124 ( frontiersman) for kitchen use. I would love to get a Emberleaf knife but they are not sold in the usa as of yet. Also, I see you bought a sword. I have 4 of them - conan the barbarian in 440 steel, ninja sword 440, sword from the movie 300, and last I own a Paul Chen tiger katana in k120hc (aka assab Swedish steel). almost all of my knives are collector knives that are not made anymore.. Keep collecting. The funny part of owning knives is that i only use about 4 of them. The rest are great dust collectors.

I am currently looking for something in an EDC that is more of a lifetime purchase, so the 2, 3 or 400 dollar price tag is more of a one and done deal.

    Melissa, if you were starting a knife brand from scratch, what three knife designs would you launch with? Go through all the knives you have for best performing and best marketable and sketch out on paper what specs and styling you'd begin with. I find Bowie or spear style blades with a belly arc most useful and least are the Tanto blades (that one corner goes dull super fast where arcs stay sharp/useful longer), but Tanto blades must sell crazy hot because every brand has dozens of models with them. I want hard use chunkier blades for abusive farm work, my father used to carry $2 Kmart Barlow style knives with two blades because one blade could break and the knife was still be useful or use one as a general beater blade and one blade kept super sharp. Benchmark the market for low/medium/high cost brand starter knives. I am sure one of the factories would contact you and say "we'll make those for you to sell!".

    How does someone navigate around all of the brands on Amazon. Is there a top 10 brands to buy, and 10 to stay away from.

    Melissa should use a ballistic dummy to test some of these knives on!

    Always been a fan of SCHRADE, they have a lot of great design into their blades. I keep a fixed blade one in my hunting pack as a back-up. Definitely going to pick up the Steelhead folder, you convinced me. It's actually on sale for $26.99 right now, always a sucker for tanto and skinner blades. These videos are great, i like the practical torture tests you put them through. Made in the future do something with field dressing, skinning, etc. and see what some top budget contenders are?

      @MelissaBackwoods ohhhhh no . Could be the next venture? I was just up near Camp Greyling, MI last month and there were deer EVERYWHERE! I must get 1 or 2 new skinners or field dressing knives every year. It's an addiction 😫 😆

    Two part question for y’all. 1) have y’all seen the show called “Foundation” and 2) know of any knives in real life that are like raych’s ?

    I don’t why your videos keep showing up in my feed as I’m not a subscriber… It’s like some sort of spell that has been cast.
    I guess a lot of men in the world who wish to find the Southern Belle Tomboy they always searched for have this as the answer to their prayers!
