I really love how this movie focused on the Piccolo & Gohan relationship. I didn’t expect to fall in love with the Gammas as much as I did. I think the best thing about the 3D is that the animators took a step back from that ultra fast fist fighting that we’re used to, they actually had to use technique/slams for the whole fight which was just cool to see from DBZ.

The lower stakes, and more focus on the mundane slice of life stuff with all of these forgotten characters, made the movie have a kind of cozy vibe. It had a Saturday morning cartoon feel to it, and there was a lot of good comedy. Also a lot of great visual gags that were constantly happening in the background if you're paying attention. I was a huge fan of the meta-humor and the constant references to how much time has passed, etc., as a way to make the older audience feel more comfortable with some of the changes and to let the newer audience be aware of the things that happened before some of them were even born. They handle this extremely well and I’m very happy of some of the callbacks and the fact that other people got the spotlight for a while.

This movie felt like a catch up for Gohan and Piccolo to me. We’ve seen in Super that no one can keep up with Goku and Vegeta, even the manga is like that. But now hopefully in the next film we can finally get Z Fighters that can keep up against the villain where Goku and Vegeta don’t need to be the only useful characters.

    • @Blynat

The only problem character that they really shelfed now is Majin Buu. He had insane powers and could just start eating gods again and become a problem. OR eat the main villain of the arc of movie and end the "showdown" before the main fight and be a problem that way. So he is a hard character to write things for. other than comedic stuff. That why he is always "hibernating" lately.

Saw it recently and really liked it , it’s the interactions that they nail in this movie. It’s not the Goku-show in this movie and hopefully they realise both in manga and anime as well that developing , giving time to shine to other characters is worth it. People accept Vegeta winning , people like the focus on other things other then Goku mastered something new or … let’s give out energy to goku so he can finish it. This movie proved you can make a really successful story on other characters.
I would love to see a movie with focus on Vegeta , Prince or all Saiyans, interactions between Vegeta , trunks , Bulma and ofc his rivalry with goku. Much can be told from the perspective of Vegeta. Unlike Goku Vegeta is more so the family man.

Dragonball is the story of Goku, if you are American it doesn't surprise me that you don't know that as most of you haven't watched the part before Z and seem to think it's the show of the Z fighters. Also, in most of DBZ we've seen very little of Goku as he has always arrived late.

    • @okok-om5oy
      @okok-om5oy 2 года назад +2

@@maythesciencebewithyou DB already tried to shift the role of protagonist at the start of the Buu saga, I'm glad we "kinda" got that finally. Also, as much as the original manga is good, it really doesn't fucking matter to me since the highlights of the show are some of the other Z fighters and I wish we could more of that.
Still, Goku serves an amazing role as protagonist but as an old fan I'd really dig a movie on Trunks and Goten.
The spirit of the series is much more important than keeping the original protagonist on the spotlight

Man...as much as I loved Super: Broly, Super Hero actually gave me more of what I love from Dragon Ball. "OG" Dragon Ball is my favorite of the bunch, so I enjoyed the villains and the genuinely sillier moments. Piccolo and Gohan are my favorite Dragon Ball characters, so seeing them take the spotlight was fantastic, and Pan having a prominent role was great also. I also love the secondary characters like Bulma, Krillin, and 18. I'm also glad to see Goten and Trunks finally aged up in this Super era. Gamma 1 and 2 stole the show, and are the types of Ginyu Force/Saiyaman -style characters Toriyama does so well. While Broly is overall more pleasing from a pure action and animation standpoint, I found myself mostly loving the 3D animation here, especially during energy auras and attacks. Ultimately, Super Hero had a more fulfilling story and the fun character interactions that I love to get in Dragon Ball.

Absolutely agree with this. It was a lot more fun and satisfying than Brolly. And despite people's concerns about it being in 3d I enjoyed it a lot. It worked better than blending 2d and 3d as your expectations are set early and the animation itself is fluid and energetic. In a lot of ways, I preferred this film to Brolly. There is always something to look at in the foreground and background. It is bright and colourful, and the amount of detail in this film was surprising and satisfying.
My favourite aspects were the script - incredible for a DB movie. The comedy was really funny, dialogue got me hyped, and it progressed a narative for every character involved. How the characters interact was different enough to bring fresh energy to the franchise - Piccolo being a surrogate father to Pan was delightful, and his approach to information gathering was enjoyable. Piccolo was definetly the main character of this film and its long overdue.
I gave this film 9/10. I had an absolute blast and so did all the other mid-30 year old males who populated the cinema.

As somebody who previously saw Super Broly, I actually quite like that this time, Toei decided to just embrace the 3D animation. It's experimental but mostly for DRAGONBALL, because the staff that worked on this film have good experience under their belt - namely those from studio Orange who worked on 3D anime like Land of the Lustrous and Beastars. The animation in both of those shows prove that there is a place for 3D animation, including this style, in Japanese animation. The art-style also looks very reminiscient of Dragonball FighterZ, as well as other ArcSys games, and the animators are very creative with how to manipulate camera angles and warp character models to achieve the 2D effect. I think the animation that people are expecting tends to be the modern Disney/Pixar style, which is smooth and detailed, but I would honestly rather have a diverse set of styles like this, than a homogenised look for 3D animation.

@@DSan-kl2yc I definitely wouldn't be concerned about 2D dying in Japanese animation for a very long time. I personally liked this movie more than DBS Broly. I love broly movie for what it was. This movie however felt like "dragon ball to its core!" The comedy, the character moments, the shout outs to older Dragonball moments. This movie is filled to the brim with that old school Dragon ball PERSONALITY.
I love that the movie doesnt just hop directly into piccolo training pan and go from there but instead establishes the bad guys for the movie. It fills them with character and gives their motivations and even shows come cool comedy moments that help you care about the bad guys a bit. even setting up some hilarious pay off jokes for later.
I think if you're a fan of Dragonball this movie will probably be better to you than the broly movie, but if you're more of a fan of DBZ or you like DB for the fighting specifically, then You may think this movie is just "okay". I also really like the animation style. I know it'll be a point of contention and I will admit i prefer the DBS broly animation style more. I love what this 3d style allowed them to do with the characters. I hope they clean this up more and give us a few more movies like this. The series otherwise just seems way too empty to me where It's only Goku, Vegeta either interacting with Beerus, Whis or fighting someone and there's almost no one else ever around. Imagine DB not having DB characters. It's why I loved campy moments in Z so much. You'd have random scenes of characters just lounging around like real people and talking. It was decided pretty early in that it would be cg and by the time this movie was in full production alot of that broly team was already divided between one piece and dragon quest dai as well as other series. Different intentions different schedules. Etc. Etc. Anime work is the type of work where animators are always moving to the next cut because they gotta eat. Can't just wait on the next Dragonball movie. I suspect now that dq dai is over and we haven't heard anything about a follow up to the super series. I totally disagree with Goku being a bad father. When Gohan was born, he was super excited & he would walk Gohan for hours around fields & forests. One of the most beautiful episodes before the appearance of Raditz. Even Goku deeply motivating Gohan during dark times with Cell & the androids. Training his son in the hyperbolic time chamber. It would've been more fruitful for Goku to ask Vegeta but he chose Gohan, Goku is the same one that believed in Gohan's martial arts more than anyone. Anytime Goku was away from his family, it was because he was either dead or on an important journey. Goku is no different than a Soldier that can't be present at home all the time, i mean for christ sake, they've fought so many life threatening battles. Goku isn't perfect but i feel Vegeta fans say that to try and force dirt on him, but Goku is an Angel at the end of the day. I'm a massive fan girl of Goku & i love Vegeta too, also Goku's family 99% of the time has always been happy with him, overall. Gohan still looks at Goku as his hero, people will literally say Piccolo is a better father, as if Piccolo didn't kidnap Gohan and torture him as a baby to save the world. If that was Goku, they would add that dirt to his name lol. 2022 we got put this to rest lol, this was still an awesome review though. 🤗🧡🤗

I think why it happened was because at least a prideful Saiyan warrior like Vegeta has the guts to admit or imply that he really cares for his family, which is surprising for his character. That in itself had form a big impression on lots of fans of course, that's why the fatherhood comparison has started. To most fans, Goku being supportive and jolly around Gohan/his family is just Goku is being Goku, and the fact that those qualities aren't too far away from Goku's natural personality was probably telling others that he may be not showing so much effort... It's probably like that..

A big reason for SuperHero's 3D animation is the simple fact that Toei just don't have the staff right now.
So many of Toei's big hitters who made Broly as great as it was have been completely tied up working on other ongoing Toei projects like One Piece. That's also a big reason why the Dragon Ball Super TV anime hasn't made a comeback yet.
A big reason I love Broly so much is because it's such a masterclass of 2D action animation. Being a huge 2D animation enthusiast, it's hard to no love what Broly does. Which made SuperHero's initial reveal really frustrating. But I think they managed to pull it together in the end pretty competently. The new style is easily at it's worst on Beerus' planet. For some reason, everything in that chunk of the movie just looks worse. I wouldn't be surprised if they added some of those scenes at the 11th hour just to have more Goku and Vegeta in the movie.
Real talk though, my biggest gripe with this movie is that they called it SuperHero, and it literally doesn't feature Great Saiyaman at all.

Biggest miss was not having Gohan reveal he was being Great Saiyaman on the side still, purely for the fact that they were relating to the Super Hero theme and Gohan literally tried to do that. While narratively Gohan being subdued to a scholar is laaaame. Him not being a meat-head yelling at other meat-heads and choosing his own path is him probably being the most responsible adult in the series. Especially given that he’s now a father with a wife and daughter. Holding a prestigious job that affords him a mansion, assuming that Satan isn’t giving them money.
And anyways, while true that Piccolo acts very much like a father to him. It’s not like they have such a profound relationship that doesn’t extend outside what Gohan and Goku do already. Train, every now and then bond like human beings with family, and yeah. Except goku doesn’t really demand Gohan to train because he accepts him as he is. While Piccolo finds himself asking Gohan to constantly go against his nature and stop being such a lame dweeb. Not that I’m saying Piccolo isn’t a better father figure but certainly by no substantial amount. I think

It was a rate transformation and the reason he has was his family and friends to protect. I look at each transformation of the main characters as their own thing. Example, goku with ultra instinct, vegita with ego or pride version from top, and gohan has beast mode

It will be playing in my neck of the woods in IMAX when it releases here soon, and I think I'll pull the trigger. One of the main draws for me is the focus on Gohan and Piccolo which I'm happy about. Felt like the series was just going to be stuck on Goku and Vegeta until the end of the time. Personally I'd like to see more of the OG fighters like Kuririn, Tenshinhan, or Yamucha.

I actually thought the 3D animation in Broly worked really well. It felt like a natural progression to amplify the action. I'm looking forward to seeing how it is being utilized in Super Hero. But hey: to each it's own.

Overall, it was just a very fun movie. Good comedy, great character moments, cool fights, ect. I went in with someone who had never really seen anything Dragonball and they loved it. I thought the animation style would ruin it for me, but it wasn't all that noticeable. Lots of parts were actually pretty close to 2D at a glance. But some parts were a bit wonky, especially Whis for some reason.

Dragonball seems to have solved the problem of low stakes as a consequence of all-powerful protagonists by making you concerned, not for their safety, but the safety of arc-specific secondary characters. It's an interesting solution to an ongoing problem.

2:44 How can you call yourself a DBZ fan and yet fall for the biggest lie in all of Dragon Ball
Goku is a good father, he was there for a majority of Gohans life
Sacrificed himself to save everyone on Earth, stayed dead as he believed he was a threat to Earth.
Heck in the Boujack movie Goku breaks the laws of the universe to save Gohan
Just Gohan isn't a little kid any more and Goku doesn't need to hold his hand anymore

Settings for best image quality on that camera for what you do.
    FILE FORMAT XAVC S - I 4K
    MOVIE SETTINGS 24FPS - RECORDING SETTINGS 250M 4:22 10BIT
    White balance 5000k
    ISO 800
Picture profile Slog 3 (once set Turn of gammera assist in your settings tab menu option 7)
    Turn on face/eye autofocus.
Id also recommend you buy yourself the A7S3 Phantom lut and learn how to expose your camera for it if you don't already know.
lastly the camera can have overheating issues so id recommend you go to settings, menu option 8 "power options" and set auto power off to high. this will help minimize any issues for you.

I actually love the visuals of this film. There is a scene wehre they stand on a platform that is falling and you can see all the pipes around falling off and just everything looks buttery smooth. Many people do not talk about effects and background animation enough and this film absolutely excels in these aspects.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit but the ending was definitely rushed. Gohan had like what..1-2 minutes in his new form? This movie needed another 20-30 minutes, Cell powering up to Perfect Cell Max and Gohan completely kicking the shit out of him all on his own.
So far this was more of a comedy than anything, with a slight tease of more movies ahead.
The good thing that came out of it is that now we'll definitely be seeing more Piccolo, he's one of my favourites and is finally useful again to the group.

I saw it today myself. Found some things kinda weird with some characters and the opening was kinda rough with some odd dialogue, even by Dragon Ball standards, but I loved Gohan and Piccolo in it and it had a lot of incredible moments with them that I loved.

It was such a fun movie for me! I liked it more than Broly. I've seen it twice and the art style is growing on me. Piccolo finally gets the respect he deserves in this film! That is what made me love the movie since Piccolo is my favourite character, and I really appreciated how Goku and Vegeta weren't the main focus for once. The only disappointment was Cell Max. He wasn't given any dialogue or much of a reason to be in the movie besides having a big bad guy to cap everything off. Besides that, it was absolutely fantastic. I will probably go back and see it again! Piccolo is hilarious with his plushies, the cat phone and his terrible driving haha!
