Women teaching women! Such a wonderful act of caring. My dad, brothers nor husband had the patience to teach me. But I have watched DIY videos and learned to overcome my fears and accomplish my goals. Fearless ladies -- my heroes!
Love your videos - no self promoting bs, pleasant music not overdone, good quality camera work, specific instructions - just a pleasure to watch. Thank you!
Can I just say I LOVE when you say you’re not sure how to do something but you’re willing to try and figure it out anyway! I love that you’re willing to work with “less desirable” pieces which would take up just as much room at the landfill and in a shorter amount of time. They can still be gorgeous useful profitable pieces. I just snagged my first curb alert 3 drawer bureau so here goes nothin! I want to turn it into an “anything you want it to be” modern cabinet with a new base & legs. Excited!
Good job! A couple tips from a woodworker.. use a heat gun to take the stickers off, and when using pocket screws, clamp the pieces together to stop them from moving when you drive the screws in.
I have a similar piece. It has the same base. Different top. It was the first ever piece of furniture I bought. It was the summer after I graduated. 1993. Lol. I’m handing it down to my daughter. I’ve planned on painting it. But a new base is a great idea! I’m a woodworker and I already have a Kroger jig. So I’m set. I’m super proud of you making your base. Awesome! I love this piece.
NataLee from Designed to the Nines always encourages women to use power tools. She would be so proud of you! I think you did a fantastic job and was really surprised that this was your first time adding wood work to a piece. 💕
Back in the day, chests like this cedar one, but usually with a solid lid and not glued on tapestry, were called "hope chests". A young lady would crochet or embroider linens for the home she hoped to someday have. If she was fortunate enough, she would inherit nice linen table cloths or napkins. The bed linens were always new, and she would embroider the trimming on them. 💘
Thank you so much for this. The fact that you AREN'T talking about how 'easy' the base is to build, is boosting my confidence. I might actually get brave enough to try it now!! 💛
I really like and appreciate that you went outside of your comfort zone and made that base and took us along for the ride. The base looks very professional and the finished piece looks very smart. Well done you!
Listen Katie Scott, I know doing something new on camera was nerve racking but I had no doubt you would slay! You are so smart and so pretty and I believe in you. You are the first person to show me how to paint furniture and you give this girl faith that I can do it too.
Loved the satisfied nod you gave when you knocked off the piece of trim on the bottom! Kudos to you for trying something new. You breathed new life into this piece. It looks tons better.
I was so happy when you just hammer off the top trim. That along with taking the handles off made a world of difference. I feel like you described it best, remove all the things you don't like to start. Even if you don't know what you want to do, sometimes the vision comes after that.
It’s hard to ask top $$$ for “made in Taiwan” particle board 🤷🏻♀️ but it’s still a useful & beautiful piece that I had fun experimenting on 😉 thank you so much for watching!!!
I looove that colour! To me it looks more green but a neutral one…if that makes sense. It’s really calming and soft. Congratulations on your first wood working venture. You did great! Those saws scare the jeepers out of me! Beautiful result❤
I have a cedar chest from the 70’s and all I’d have to do would put a base on it and I’ve been wanting to try …. You have given me the inspiration to try. Thank you. Love all your videos.
Thank you for sharing your very first experience in building the base. You did a wonderful job Katie. And that colour is a beautiful green. Well done again.

I love that you made your own base. So beautiful. I have also wanted to use the diy wife tutorial to try my own base in the future. Great job learning how to use the kraig jig! They are kind of complicated at first! But a very useful tool!
Katie, although I am a huge fan of Andrea of DIY Wife, you are second to none. If you lived in my area of the USA, I would be a frequent customer. I love your transformations. And ofcourse your spirit.
Katie you are a miracle worker! That outdated chest looked like "crap" (excuse the language), but the truth is welcome in Heaven...you completely updated it and even though it was beige in the workshop, it was definitely a dry sage in the house and beautiful, It was!! Girl you are amazing!
Congrats on that awesome achievement. Such a satisfying feeling to know you’ve made something yourself and figured out how to use new equipment. Awesome result!

Oh yeah.... I see green.
Way to go, you built that base like a pro! And of course the transformation is beautiful as always!
So proud of you Katie!!!! Job well done! That chest totally looked taupe in your garage, but inside the house, it is definitely green!!
You can really see the sage green undertone of the paint in the bright, natural light. Great job! I love this piece!

What a terrific reinvention of a cedar chest. Super impressive.
I love Andrea too. She has made me want to try this. I’m so glad you tried first. 😂

Congrats for building the new base all by yourself! You have a lot to be proud of!
It definitively looks more green to me than brown. Beautiful transformation
