- Checking out the Kicker Hideaway HS8 powered under-seat subwoofer! This beast is the perfect solution if you're pressed for space and fits under the seat of most cars.
I've always enjoyed having decent sound systems in my cars, but when I got the Ranger, I couldn't fit a traditional subwoofer without sacrificing the rear seats which is something I didn't really want to do. Enter the Kicker Hideaway! The Kicker Hideaway is a sub and amp combo small enough to fit snugly under the driver's seat (just!), I've had it in the Ranger for over a year now and it's been fantastic, giving the factory sound system that much-needed dosage of bass - enjoy!

MY man out here doing the Lord's work...taking the front seat out, AND getting the ol binder of CDs out? You sir are the man! I still collect and play my CDs all the time. Have over 800 and counting.
I have a Rockville 8" powered sub in my trunk and it sounds fantastic, but I wanted just a compact under the seat all in one. I tried one I got off Amazon and it was terrible. Kinda skeptical on this one if it'll provided enough thump for my liking for the 300$ USD it costs.
When I saw the 90s era cd wallet I knew it was on!
Nice video! You helped me decide on the kicker over the Rockville SS8P.
Thanks! Bought one today and couldn't find a good review until now.
Is it a good buy???
@@almor820 yeah I was skeptical but I love it
Do you still love it in terms of bass could it shake the car at all like side mirrors
@@Forgon_1 no, for the price is enhances the bass quite a bit but not going to shake mirrors sadly
@@savannahweingart4836 dang didn’t expect such a fast reply thank you. Do you still have it and enjoy it a lot of people said there’s broke.
Brooo I just bought one of these off someone in my town for $35! And it works
Nice little unit. Always tricky fitting decent sound in small cabs. I was fitted a sub and 2x 6/9s in a custom box in the tail gate of a suzuki sierra.
I actually used two of these for awhile..i actually liked them but i out grew them..they seemed op on a stock deck but then i put one of those alpine 50 watt per chanel direct wired in amps. I couldnt turn the gain past half without drowning out the little subs at 3/4 bass knob lvl.. i upgraded my head unit and leaving the gain the same on the little wired in amp i ran the kickers at 100 percent on the knob.. it was louder then you really wanted to be in the rig with with clear clean sound..i would recomend them for an upgrade from stock set up! But i wanted a little better sound quality from a better amp with some higher watts then the little hard wired alpine soooo i had to bail on them and get some more watts to subs to keep it balanced..all in all there worth the money and sound plenty good..if your wanting something to moe your yard listening to music from your car these are not for you..if you just want a better sound quality at sane volumes these do the trick nicely
It did take two of them to satisfy me tho
Looks great! I definitely need to upgrade my stick speaker system
Thanks for sharing 👍😎
Hey mate great job lots of awesome info going on in ur channel, im wondering if you can do an updated review on the rooftop tent you have from anaconda and what you have heard from other campers on the road about other tents or styles? Cheers mate keep up the great work
Hey mate, glad you’ve been enjoying the vids! Yep, I’m planning on doing a 2nd review of the Dune RTT soon, covering the ‘bits I missed’ the first time around. 👍
Great vid mate !
you literally just convinced me to buy this lol you should get paid for this video
I thinking about doing this, but I'm confused on how it taps in from the speakers? Are you tapping in from the "Outs" of the head unit or are you taping in right from the speakers themselves? Or its all the same?
Tapping in behind the head unit would be preferable, but you can also tap in at the speaker ends too, either will work as it's the same signal. Basically, your head unit sends signals to your speakers and tapping the sub into the existing speaker wiring lets the sub read those signals too to work out what bass to deliver.
@@explorebound Awesome thanks. Thinking of buying this. So if I connect directly into the Battery which do I select? DC ? or 12V? Sorry if its an obvious answer!
Set it to 12V 🙂
U think these are worth the money? Debating right now either these in a 10 inch. Or a set of 12s in a box.
When you were playing the music were your stock speakers on as well?
Yep the speakers are stock 🙂
Awesome video!!!
Hey man, I'm really enjoying your videos, I just got myself a dual cab PJ ranger a couple of months ago and I'm going to be doing a head unit similar to your sony with Android sit depending on specials , some decent speakers and a sub, I'm weighing up whether to go with a powered sub or a slim 10inch conventional sub and amp behind the back seat (I'm pretty sure I have the space). Now you've had your set-up a while do you feel like the powered sub has the a similar amount of punch? I'm trying to keep the setup semi budget and I'll either go a powered or slimline sub and amp for around $400ish. Also how bad does the the Rangers interior get for rattles when you start turning up the bass? Sorry about all of the questions, I'm really enjoying your videos, it's been a great resource for me as a new PJ owner
Hi Peter, glad you've been enjoying the videos! I'm still very happy with the Hideaway sub, puts out plenty of bass for me without sacrificing much cabin space. Depending on which make/model you're looking at, you'll most likely get more bass from a decent slimline sub and separate amplifier, although it may cost a bit more as you'll need to buy the sub + amp + wiring separately. Also I'm happy to report that mine has no rattles with the bass cranked so hopefully yours is the same 🙂
@@explorebound yeah, I was thinking that, I just figured if the interior rattled like crazy it wouldn't be worth it, I'm pretty sure I have the space for this behind the back seat for this, it's a pretty complete pack and I think it'll have a little better performance per dollar, thankyou for your help and fast reply!
Hi, just wondering what are your presets?
Thanks for making this helpful video
Great when they worked. 2 of them blew on me within a year and I didn't even have them up very loud. Apparently its a known issue yet Kicker did nothing to fix it.
Oh damn that’s annoying! Did you get them repaired/replaced under warranty? Mines still going strong after quite a few years now, must have got a lucky one 😬
me and my buddy had one for 4 years that we kept swapping between our cars, the speaker did bust after the 4 years, but I emailed kicker and they only charged $75 to repair it. and they paid shipping. So not to bad.
Mine killed after 4-5 months of use, some people said don't turn your gain up too much? Not sure, but my HS10" arrives today, should pack even more punch than the 8" and hopefully it doesn't blow this time.
Thanks for the update
do you're research on how my rms they are rated for, not turning gain up to much is a no brainer?
@@frenchie8039 We aren't all speaker experts.
Just got my hideaway replaced from Best Buy and they said if you turn up the bass too much or blasting your music with distortion sound on stock speakers then your kicker hideaway subwoofer blows up
What's the song? That's tight.
I wouldn't have a clue sorry mate, it was just something I found on an old CD from my P plate years 😂
@@explorebound Lol!! No worries. Great video!

Mine worked 2 months, only a blue light now with no sound, never again buying Kicker
What are them round things? Hahaha
Haha I know, right!? Couldn't believe I still had them, brought back memories of first getting my license, they're probably due for a museum soon. 😅
Sounds loud 🔊🔊
Just put this thing in my 2021 corolla n my wife.gonna go deaf lol
Don't mean to sound like a Jerk... But this thing is the biggest hunk of crap... Mine stopped after 3 months like everyone else's
That's a shame about yours. Mine's still going strong after quite a few years now, same with a few mates that have the same unit.
@@phillipbanes5484 that's not the case at all... I know how to install an amp... Pretty simple! Everything was done correctly!!!! It's crap!
@@phillipbanes5484 heerrree we goo.... Listen dude... It's a speaker... Whoootyyy doooooo..... It's a hunk of shit... I'm not the only one who has had the same issue! Stop being a troll! Good luck!
Sounds good, but amazon warranty is a must!
Don’t buy this!! Tech support just told me these woofers only last a couple years, and most quit working after only a couple weeks!
