This is the record in early 2000’s that changed my perception of what metal could be. This record is a classic, excellent lyrics, killer vocal performances, an exciting mix of groove and highly technical playing, all tied together with some intense and amazing drumming. I’m a fan for life.
Kevin Talley is such a fantastic drummer. Groovy and tastly while providing some of the tightest blast beats i've ever heard, plus that snare sound is perfection
The entire album shouts DEATH METAL!!!!! This is the way DM should sound like, together with Suffocation Pierced from within, Cannibal Corpse Tomb of the mutilated and Cryptopsy Non so vile. Top draw!
This album feels way more like grindcore than brutal death metal... In fact most of the guys on this album are from grindcore band Misery Index. I love it.

First time listening to this album and I got super triggered at 0:34 because this riff has been used for years in Metal Injection videos and I had no idea this is where it came from
I saw Dying Fetus live twice. The first time was in December 2006 at the Masquerade in Atlanta. The group toured with Cannibal Corpse and Necrophagist. When Praise the Lord hit I lost my mind. I saw the band a second time in November 2007 again at the Masquerade but that time with Skeletonwitch. Dying Fetus delivered the goods in pummeling fashion.
Frank Rinni (IB vocalist from 1994-97), loved that sick fucker. My buddy used to do a fanzine back then & got in tight with IB & we saw them rehearse many times & drank beers with them & hung out, awesome guys! Frank did drink milk right before going on stage to do a show.
I was 16 at the time and got suspended at school. My parents took away my tickets to the cannibal corpse dying fetus, nerophagist lineup for Toronto. They didn't understand what they were doing.
@@fackumon292 idk if you'll get what i mean, but to me they both seem to have a sort of "hood" touch in their music i'm not sure how to explain it, maybe it's just where they're based out of but a lot of their riffs could easily be early 2000s trap melodies lmao

Dying fetus is literally the step up that death metal needed. The songs are extremely fast, agressive, with top notch lyrics in most times, grotesque low pitch growling and loud clean vocals, with that crunchy guitar sound, illegally powerfull crunchy bass and songs that are all an shot of adrenaline right into your ears and brain.
One of my favorite brutal death metal albums ever. It just hooks you in every time you turn it on. A legendary classic record that you always have to come back to!

yeah man , you must see kevin talley audition for slayer, damn! such a beast
I totally agree. His style reminds me so much of hardcore punk /thrash. Very unique. My favorite DF drummer would have to be Timlin though.
Not to mention the natural tone of the drums. Sounds like mics in the room, nothing fancy.
It's almost like a funk snare, just angrier. PUP PUP PUP
Agree with you Kevin Talley is one hell of drummer
The opening riff is incredible, that's how you start a death metal album
Wake up and smell the carcass is a great death metal album lml
is it not brutal death metal?

cabalofdemons i saw them in Buffalo, NY on the same tour.....great lineup.
I saw them back in 1995 w Internal Bleeding opening for Suffocation on Long Island, talk about a slam fest!
Yep, I saw them on that same tour in Houston, TX.
Internal Bleeding's singer drank a carton of chocolate milk before they played LOL.
