- In this episode of The Pulse, we look at how real-time filmmaking and virtual production are bringing new efficiencies to the entire production process, opening up narrative opportunities and facilitating final pixels in camera.
Host Mike Seymour, Co-Founder of fxguide is joined by Sam Nicholson, ASC, CEO and Founder of Stargate Studios; Felix Jorge, CEO and Creative Director at Happy Mushroom; and Matt Madden, currently Director of Virtual Production at Epic Games. These industry trailblazers share their insights on the benefits and challenges production teams face as they make the transition to the virtual era of filmmaking.

Superior time is now. And great possibilities are opening for creative people! Thanx to Epic and all who are involved to this revolution of creativity!
Never heard it described better, delighted to be part of the change.
This whole discussion between you 4 guys was the crucial missing part in communication to push this movement. A lot of traditional professionals seam to have difficulties to understand the why&how and with that give some trust to the "nerds" that where playing and experimenting with this tech for years. In short, thank you so much for this episode and your time to explain this mind blowing new time.
Amazing this transition to real time virtual production and the advancement of real time rendering photo realistic scenes. Unreal is the coolest game engine right now
Coming from traditional film production, this is the best ever panel discussing so precise and honestly all aspects of the shift to VP.
The real gamechanger will be Unreal Engine 5. When so many extreme hi-def elements will be available and just work right out of the box, be it real time ray traced lighting or 3D models with ultra-high triangle counts. As long as the hardware is capable of doing so, the resources will scale up and just work, while for lower-end hardware, they will scale down while still maintaining the best visual quality. But let's face it. On the motion picture production end of the spectrum, the most powerful rendering options will be available.
Nothing using computer generated imagery will ever be the same again.
its insane that the prerendered CG graphics we had decades ago is now being surpassed by real-time rendering. #BelieveIn3090ti
@@yaris684 It was bound to happen... Just a matter of time for hardware to catch up with and surpass acceptable minimum output quality at real time. And with consumer-grade tech approaching those minimum thresholds, with industry-grade tech still remaining top-tier, the time was ripte for something like Unreal Engine to step up and push the envelope both for consumers and industry professionals...
What a great time to be working in a related field, or coming in at the ground floor of one.
@@Opnn8d1 Maybe we will have film releases that you can play like a video game.....oh wait
@@yaris684 Lol... More accurately, we can have TV shows produced in real time that would have taken a whole lot longer if prerendering was still mandatory. An virtual world could be released as a marketable product where the player can actually tour the environments they see on the show in real time and at the highest quality available at the consumer level. If a virtual environment is built for the show, then it will be "game ready." Especially with the upcoming UE5 tech
Yup, when Matt brought up that you can adjust Level of Details I was snickering cause, I'm pretty sure Unreal mentioned LOD's will be gone from UE5.
Understanding lighting is important in a huge diversity of disciplines. One of those "fundamentals" that are worth learning about.
"Convergent Technologies" - Ah yes, glad the top left gentlemen brought this up.
Very nice to see industry veteran Mike still in business.
i really love what u guys r doing....and btw i am from myanmar...i love to be a movie-director and u guys give a path that can be possible for me...so thank up "epic" team..
where in myanmar
I am glad to see this change final happening. Idid a test of this type of film making back in 2012 and it was so expensive. However now with COVID 19 etc , this technology is more main stream and it can only get better from here...loving it
Fantastic discussion! These times are definitely exciting!
Thank you Epic for making so much awesomeness so accessible!
Kudos to the amazing people creating documentation and learning paths online for us to skip the struggle and go straight to make the most out of the toolset/platform!
Gentlemen, thank you all for your generosity with your talent and experience. So enjoyable and informative. Best Regards, All.
Haha, can’t wait until some day I can work with something like the people working on mandolorian did. That dome has just blown me away. My dream as a film maker is to someday work on something such as that. Thank you for making things like this possible.
I'm surprised this video doesn't have more views. The discussion here is so pertinent to film production that I would have hoped more people will see this in the long run. This was a fascinating and exciting discussion to watch. Virtual production, over time, will dramatically reduce production costs and open up filmmaking to more creatives much like digital cameras have been doing and will continue to as technology advances there.
thanks @epic & @unreal and all wise people in this discussion, willingly sharing their thoughts / experiences
This video is delightful. Hits all the cools things in these industries whose progresses I like to follow.

Brilliant breakdown, thanks 👍💕 plus it was a nice discussion.
Ops... I guess if I'm going to catch the live Q&A going to have to add to calendar and set an alarm and catch the webinar live. Thanks for posting. Great stuff...!
wow this Mike Seymour character from that Unreal demo is looking better then ever
Love this:-)
Awesome video!! Very well described
What a brilliantly insightful and crunchy vid!
Man, this video pairs really nice with the new Nvidia GPUs announcement. Learn Blender and Unreal Engine if you want to make bank in digital media soon.
Love VP! Our next project is being produced in Unreal Engine, such an amazing environment to work in and the workflow process is so exciting to see come together.😍😎
@36 mins - worth watching the film, Le Congres about exactly this future.
No one :
UNREAL ENGINE : I AM GONNA MAKE YOU FEEL STUPID
or poor
Lol. I laughed so loud at this. Thank you for this. Ahhhhhhh. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love you epic games, and i want to learn unreal engine 🥺😭
Same
🥺😭🥺😭
If this was Unity their response would be : "buy this unmaintained $19 photorealism plugin from the asset store"
Game changer for sure
You still have to learn unreal so would be good one day to use unreal as a render engine inside DCC apps. I don’t have to time to learn unreal to the extent I’ve learnt my applications. There’s a huge element of having to start again and would take me months maybe even years to get to a level that matches my skills in offline workflow.
Digital Human Avatars. So cool.

Outstanding!!!
너무나 훌륭하신 선지자 분들입니다. 존경합니다.^^
Glorious!
I would love it if this channel went back to teaching unreal instead of talking about it.
Clearly you wrote that before actually watching the video...

NOT, I repeat not, a bunch of high level management sitting around talking about work that their engineers did. I would like education and content from the programmers, workers and artists that actually created it.
@@haroonpiracha4374 My main issue I take is that the majority of videos released on this channel used to be 30% sizzle and 70% education. For a while now its been 10% education and 90% sizzle, fluff and executives patting each other on the back. Sorry, I come here to learn how to use the latest fun new awesome additions for games on an awesome game engine or should I not expect that from a game engine's youtube channel?

Good stuff
Ue4 is awesome 👍❤️
Is this virtual human example 😉🧐😀
What programm is the one in 30:26? It look like Substance Painter but not exactly...

Love that work thx
Unreal is a Beast
Pretty sure the guy in the top left is using a marketplace asset for his background - at least for the stuff outside his window.
Fantastic tech and smart review of it all--it looks like the future, especially in Covid times. Too bad this vid seems aimed at insiders and pros only. Too much jargon and assumed knowledge to really reach out to a lot of creatives. I love this stuff, but a lot of writers & directors' eyes glaze over at a certain point. A more instructional version of this for civilians would be super.

wow
agree with Lenny, is there a way to make a stupid old fashion tutorials where people make something specific not just talking about it? you lost the goal here

Me: Why does that guy look so familiar?

First heh
Let’s see how much of this is possible WITHOUT ANY APPLE PRODUCTS.
RetzyWilliams everything
You can't do any of this on apple computers now, lol.
Of course you can. The courts blocked apple from doing anything against Unreal Engine
