Thank you for taking us with you as you declutter! I’m excited to see how you organize things. I feel like I’m at a good place with both, but I love new ideas! Have a blessed day 😊

Love love love what you said about the slippers: someone else will love them. But, why do we think that if we keep a gift, it somehow honors the giver? The reality is, we would never wish for someone to keep something that they hated or didn’t fit or whatever. But yet, here we are, keeping all this unwanted stuff. Great energy on this video. You lifted my spirits tremendously, as usual ❤ xoxo

A friend once compared holding onto excess you can’t use (like the slippers, or just in case items) to the Israelites holding onto excess manna when God had already promised he’d provide the next day. The manna that was uneaten turned to worms overnight. She said keeping things boxed away and unused is forgetful and faithless. Our Father knows our daily needs. When we hold onto the excess, it too literally rots in our basements and garages. The elastic or plastic becomes brittle and breaks. The styles outdated. We can let go of the excess now, trusting God will meet us in our next season of new needs and sizes for our changing lives. ❤
Thank you for your channel. I love being able to see into your journey even though I don’t have any close friends nearby walking the minimalism path with me.

I’m so moved by these insights. I’ve been repeatedly astounded by God’s provision in my life lately and it’s making me rethink so much of the excess I’m still hanging on to. Thank you for sharing!

We had to revamp our drop zone. The kids were getting bigger and able to get their own stuff on and off and also make a mess of the bins. So now we keep the back ups in a bin separate from the rest. That way they have to keep up with their own things and it's very minimal and painless. Nothing like expecting to have a second pair of mittens only to find that they lost that one too. Kids😂.

@@papertownhome I know what you mean. We literally just filled a bag with outgrown clothes in November. And here we are again. I buy the kids clothes twice a year, a summer wardrobe and a winter one, and my middle son needs clothes in the middle of the season. Every time. I finally came to that realization yesterday. And it's kind of annoying to do a middle season update. Plus he is like 1/2 a size smaller than his brother so I have multiples of the same size (boys are Irish twins) so that stinks. It throws a wrench in my capsule wardrobe shopping planning for the kids, but I have to make do with this fact and just figure it out.

Thank you! I got them from Amazon. The version I bought are no longer available, but I added a couple similar options to the description of this video (one 6oz and one 4oz). I have the 6oz. I LOVE them! They're large enough for most containers of spices from the store and they're easy to scoop out of with measuring spoons.

Decluttering is being intrinsic in an extrinsic world. It'd not really about the amount of stuff, it is the relationships.

Any tips on decluttering books and toys? I only have one child but plan to have more and im holding on to everything because I don't know what to purge. I think books are a bit harder than toys as well because they all seem valuable and have something to teach.

I definitely need to make a video about kids' books! They're tricky. Here's what I can share for now...
I've focused on keeping books that fall into two categories: Charlotte Mason or Maria Montessori.
Charlotte Mason recommends books with engaging stories, beautiful ideas, vivid imagery, and characters that inspire curiosity and nourish the heart, soul, and mind.
Maria Montessori suggests content with realistic plots, natural depictions of people and animals, everyday photographs, beautiful illustrations, and informative non-fiction.
These two approaches don’t completely match up, but together, they cover the range and quality of books that my children and I love. Having these categories has helped me let go of extras that don’t fit.
Now, though there are lots of books that fit both Mason and Montessori styles and it's easy to end up with too many. Kim John Payne, author of Simplicity Parenting, recommends keeping only one or two books available for kids under 8, with another 10-12 on a nearby shelf. For example, you might have two on their nightstand and 10 on a shelf. I’ve started keeping four on the shelves in our play area and 10-12 in a basket in the kids' bedroom. The rest I now store in my office closet for rotation. Payne recognizes that too many books can overwhelm young kids, making it harder for them to read. Also, kids tend to want to revisit favorites over and over. That’s been true for my kids.
Another idea is to keep a small collection of absolute favorites and visit the library every couple of weeks to bring in new books. Depending on the quality of your library (ours isn’t great), you might need to make a book list beforehand and submit a request.
As for toys, that’s what my next video will be about. I’m digging into whether educational toys are really essential for kids' development. I won’t specifically cover what to keep if you’re expecting more kids, but I plan to do some community posts answering other questions about toys so I can address it there. The video will definitely offer some principles and a decluttering strategy that you might find helpful for your situation.

@@papertownhome thanks so much for taking the time to answer. Good food for thoughts. I'm also trying to raise a bilingual child, so I have books in two languages, which adds to the chaos! We do have quite a few books out at once, and sometimes my daughter does want to re-read the same few books from the library which makes me think - do I buy it? Or do I just wait till it's available and borrow it again. I suppose if they can't focus on that many books maybe it's worth just waiting and reborrowing

I couldn’t get past the throwing away of an entire bottle of blue dish detergent. If I can’t get rid of your stuff you can imagine how difficult it is for me to get rid of mine.

I’m so sorry you’re struggling with this process. I hope you’re able to find some gentle guidance that fits for you. In case you haven’t come across her channel, I highly recommend Dana K White. She’ll likely challenge some of your thinking, but she also has a decluttering approach that tends to help people who have a harder time with it. You’re in my thoughts and prayers!

Just to make sure, are you talking about the plaid chair? If so it’s from the IKEA Stocksund line, but I just looked it up and it seems to be discontinued. 😭 But if you Google IKEA Stocksund you’ll find other companies doing similar designs or you might be able to find one through Marketplace. Hope that helps!
