I still consider it as a spin-off game from the direct Street Fighter franchise. I think it’s a really interesting transition between the failed, original arcade and its highly-successful sequel.
Capcom chose one helluva way to see off the 1980s with this classic brawler - few games manage to define both a genre and an era as well as Final Fight did.
I had a Capcom classics game disk that had this game and so many others on it when I was a little kid, I remember me and my older brother would always play it and he'd play Haggar every time. Good stuff.

The arcade's were an Alladin's cave back then and the games we're just far superior to anything we could play at home. I still play classic mame arcade games now and it's amazing how superior they are compared to the home consoles attempts.

I remember everyone used to pick Haggar. They had this at the arcade in the bowling alley by my house. We used to pump quarters into that thing all day. There would be a crowd of kids standing around watching my brothers and I play it. Then they had "Bad Dudes". 80's era beat em ups were the best.
My local pizza place had this arcade game and the owner was my neighbor everytime I came by the pizza place he would open it up and hit the quarter receiver a bunch of times and let me play free. I loved this game so much lol

One idea I had was to make a sequel called Final Fight 4ce (Force). It plays like Sengoku Basara where a doomsday cyberpunk purge-clan ran by Cyborg Belger and instead of kidnapping, he goes mad and threatens to bomb all of Metro City with an atomic rocket missile. The street fighters, the mad gear gang, and the skull cross gang all join forces and are all playable up to 30 brawlers.
The coolest thing about the Final Fight was music. And Andre Giant. And those punks with mohawks. Final Fight + Punisher + Cadillacs And Dinosaurs = Holy Trinity :)
Final Fight is one game that should have at least been made into a animated movie if not a live action rendition. Unlike the animated Street Fighter II in 1994(which did not feature a tournament nor did most of the characters interact with each other) Final Fight naturally has a progressive story(Original conflict. Multiple sages. Different Bosses. Final showdown. Rescue the girl) that fits a cinematic narrative.
I love watching the whole playthrough as Haggar because I can imagine a full length movie where Hagar just goes ape shit and wrecks an entire city on his own. You wouldn't even need Guy or Cody to be involved for it to be a good anime
Capcom USA kept turning Final Fight into something it’s not. Just like how the Double Dragon and Splatterhouse franchises had the same injustice by American game developers.

Man, I remember playing this game as a kid in the early to mid 90s on the SNES; this game was a blast. It is crazy to think that years later, Fighting Force 64 was very similar to this game but in 3D, and the part where you are on the elevator fighting off guys, and then fight the boss once you get to the top; it is exactly the same in Fighting Force 64 except the elevator fight is the final level with the main boss of the game.
What I wouldn't give to be able to read what the local papers of this city had to say about their own mayor stripping to the waist and beating up every criminal in town to rescue his daughter.

This isn't the arcade version, this is a game console version of the arcade version.. The actual arcade version that you'll play in a pizza joint was way harder in terms of gameplay.. Also the real arcade version had more detailed graffics.. But this game console version is pretty good also👌
That is true! The arcade version was brutally difficult. I had a part-time job where 90% of the money I made fed this machine for about 6 months of my life.
And if Mike Haggar got into Smash Ultimate, his Final Smash would involve pile diving his opponent right through the center of the Earth and back to the exact same place.

Why is Mike Haggar not in Street Fighter as a playable character? He does make a cameo appearance in the intro sequence of Cody Travers in Ultra Street Fighter IV, but that's about it.

The graphics on this game are outstanding for a 1989 game, in 1986 Outrun set the bar and then three years Final fight raised it even higher.
