Saturday Night Slam Masters (Arcade) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

- A playthrough of Capcom's 1993 wrestling arcade game, Saturday Night Slam Masters.
Played through the single battle mode on the default difficulty level with Gunloc.
Saturday Night Slam Masters, or Muscle Bomber: The Body Explosion as it was called in Japan (so much more dramatic of a name!), was a wrestling game that had way more bombast than just about any other wrestling game before it, including the excellent WWF Super Stars game released by Technos a few years earlier.
I played a ton of the SNES version of Slam Masters as a kid, and while it was a very good conversion, the arcade version really where it's at for this one. Huge character sprites, loud Q-sound driven rock beats, and a stiff but fair challenge made Saturday Night Slam Masters quite a following back in the early 90s, and it's still more than different enough from just about any other game out there to make it worth playing now.
And you get Mike Haggar as a selectable character? How cool is that?
If you'd like to see my playthroughs of the home ports, you can find them here:

Everything was RIGHT about this game back in the day! The music, the feel of the game and its characters were ahead of its time...and sooooo many street fighter, king of fighters and final fight references!
If it's so right how can the hulk Hogan dude from the title screen isn't in the game. Then he shows up after you beat the game, says he's gonna fight you, then you don't get to fight him? That bothered me as a kid and it bothered me watching this just now.
Man, capcom was there for us in the 90s huh?
It’s the year 2022, and this game still makes me rage. 😂💯
Biff and Gunloc:
Sonic Fist - Press Attack button very fast (an auto-fire makes it very easy to do it, and if you land it four hits, the opponent becomes dizzy) On Kawaks emulator, this move comes out after one kick, you can dizzy the opponents non stop;
Head Rocker - grab the opponent and press Up, Forward, and Attack.
Northern Light Suplex (Biff)/Fisherman Suplex (Gunloc) - Both of them have a pin grab from the front. Grab and press Down and Attack.
Powerslam (Pin) - Gunloc has another Pin grab from the front. Grab the opponent and press Down, Attack+Jump.
Tombstone Piledriver - Grab from the front and press Down, Attack+Jump. It's not a Pin, like Gunloc's Powerslam.
Brain Buster - stand still and press Jump and then Attack very fast. Good knockdown move.
The Great Oni:
Cyclone Kick - Attack+Jump. Good knockdown move;
Neck Wrecker - grab the opponent and Rotate 360 degrees on any direction (half circle and Up), then Attack+Jump simultaneously (you can map this Super on one button in the Kawaks Emulator. Just edit the .ini file for an one button 360º Super);
Super Bulldog - grab the opponent from the front, and press Down, Attack+Jump;
Back Suplex Pin - grab from the back, and press Down and attack.
Titanic Tim:
Tsunami - Half circle on any direction + Attack (you must do it slowly to come out every time, just pick up the time correctly);
Titan Breaker - grab the opponent and press Back, Down, Up, and Attack;
Titan Slam (Chokeslam) - grab from the front and press Down, Attack+Jump;
Choke Hold - grab from the front and press Down and Attack (it's a Give Up move);
Back Breaker - another Give Up move. Grab from the back and press Up, and Attack. All the multiple hits grabs can be mashed with attack button.
El Stingray (Stingr):
Jalapeno Comet - Down, Down-Forward, Forward, and Attack (it's a hadouken motion to make it simple);
Atomic Diver - grab the opponent and press Forward, Down, Down-Forward, and Attack (a shoryuken to make it simple);
Ensuguri - grab from the front and press Up, Attack+Jump;
Monkey Flip - grab from the front and press Down, Attack+Jump;
Neck Stinger - A Give Up move from the back, grab and press Attack;
He has another jump kick, Moon Jump - Jump and press Down and Attack, or hold Down then Jump and Attack;
On single matches he has an evade move backflip - Forward, Back, and Jump.
On the upper corner Turnbuckle, when you are dismounting the turnbuckle press Attack for a Spinning Kick;
when the opponent is laying in a corner, run to him and when close, press Up and Attack for a Somersault Kick.
He can slam the opponent if he runs towards you, you just have to press attack (Rasta, Titanic, Alexander, Scorp, also can do this).
Mike Haggar:
Spinning Clothesline - Attack+Jump (you can move while doing this);
Spinning Pile Driver - grab the opponent and Rotate 360 degrees on any direction (half circle and Up), then Attack+Jump simultaneously (you can map this Super on one button in the Kawaks Emulator);
Jumping Piledriver - grab from the front and press Down, Attack+Jump;
Multiple Headbutts - Grab and press Attack (you can mash the button for multiple hits. Sadly this is not a Give Up move);
Powerbomb Pin - grab from the front and press Down, Attack.
Alexander the Grater (Grater):
Patty Cake Slap - Press attack button very fast (an auto-fire makes it very easy to do it. you can jump and attack on the opponent, and keep pressing the attack button, you will land next to him after the jump attack with both hands, and combo with the hand slaps. you can do this move non stop, like Rasta. Sadly, this move doesn't knockdown the opponent);
Tornado Toss - grab the opponent and press Up, Forward, and attack (any other faq movelist teachs this move wrong. It's just like the Head Rocker from Biff and Gunloc. Very easy to do it);
Powerbomb Pin - grab from the front and press Down, Attack+Jump;
Canadian Backbreaker- grab from the front and press Up and Attack (Give Up move)
King Rasta "Mon":
Jungle Fever - Press attack button very fast (an auto-fire makes it very easy to do it. It does knockdown the opponent and make them dizzy, like Sonic Fist does. You can move while doing it);
Dread Lock Drop - grab and press Down, Up, and Attack;
Jumping Piledriver - grab from the front and press Down, Attack+Jump;
German Suplex (Pin) - grab from the back, and press Down and attack.
His running jump move with the butt can dizzy the opponent. He has a Multiple hit move like Haggar, if you grab from the front and press Attack (like the Blanka bite from SF)
Jumbo Flap Jack:
Pancake Poison - Half circle on any direction + Attack (you must do it slowly to come out every time, just pick up the time correctly);
Pancake Toss - grab the opponent and press Up, Back, Forward, and Attack;
Bear Hug (Give Up) - grab from the front and press Attack (Multi-Hit Give Up move);
Falling Slam - grab from the front and press Down, Attack+Jump;
Syrup Stomp - best stomp move in the game. It's a multiple hit stomp, very fast, and does a lot of damage, and also makes the opponent stand up dizzy for an easy Bear Hug finisher
The Scorpion:
Slam Stand - press Down, Up, and Attack+Jump (very hard to do it. you have to time it right while doing it, and you can move while doing it. must be done quickly);
Slam/Death Spiral - grab the opponent and press Up, Down, and Attack;
Jumping Spinebuster - grab from the front and press Up, Attack+Jump;
Scorpion Bomb
(Tiger Bomb/Pile Drive Pin) - grab from the front and press Down, Attack+Jump. High damage Pin move;
German Suplex (Pin) - grab from the back, and press Down and Attack
These are the most important moves. On single match some characters have different moves, like Biff and Gunloc with the Baseball Slide (when the opponent is out of the ring, you can run and before hit the ropes, press Attack to slide and hit them outside of the ring). You can also jump and attack while running to hit them outside of the ring. In the lower part of the ring, if the opponent is outside of the ring, you can press Down, Jump, and Attack, to do a flying move and hit them off the ring.
Using the Pin button on a Turnbuckle, makes your character angry (Red). With this, they can do new strike moves, and do a lot of damage with any move.
The best way to win is strike them with good range moves (Scorp, Jumbo, Haggar, Rasta, Alexander); and Grab them coming from up or down, to avoid being hit and stopped when you are trying to grab, and do a super move (only the AI can grab you from far away).
If you have a turbo/auto-fire on the attack button, you can win very easily with Biff/Gunloc, Alexander, Rasta. A fast auto-fire like the Kawaks emulator, can make the Sonic Fist comes out after a single strike. That makes this move super cheap, and becomes the best in the game.
If you have a human partner, you can trap the opponents if both keep striking from their front and back at the same time. You can also hit the opponents and the partner do a special move, like jalapeno comet or any special. That will hit the opponent without they evading. Some specials do a lot of damage, like the Pancake Poison and Jalapeno Comet, but Sonic Fist is the best if you have a fast auto-fire, to make it come out after a single strike.
If you play with the CPU as your partner, pick a good partner like Alexander (very good AI), Oni (good), Scorp (good), Titanic Tim (good).

YOU ARE SHEER AWESOMENESS AND A HALF! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for taking your time and energy to type this for the Saturday Night Slam Masters fans both old and new! It's been a while since I last played this! Just got this for the Nintendo Switch's eShop a few days ago!
Well Oni's Neck Wrecker is called Keppujin (血風刃, meaning "Blood Wind Blade") in Japan and his Cyclone Kick is called Senpukyaku (旋風脚, meaning "Whirlwind Leg/Kick") in Japan
Dude, you are a legend. Thanks 👍👍
I loved playing this on SNES as a kid. I want to try the arcade version
You can buy it on the Nintendo Switch from the eShop for 4 bucks. It's in the Capcom Arcade Stadium 2 bundle! Unlike the corporate greedy Sega Classics bundle, with the Capcom Arcade Classics, you can buy each game separately and there's no lame online fees and no stupid "season pass" garbage. ..YES!..lol... Hope this helps. All the best!
27:27 And Live From New York, It's Saturday Night Slam Masters!!
A remake of Slam Masters could add Zanguief, R.Mika and Alex.
nope, lore and canon wise slammaster is decades before the first street fighter, in fact the complete works tells that zangief got interested on profesional wrestling by watching haggar , r.mika and alex were not even born by the time of these games
C'mon Capcom, remake this game! We know you *have* to. To keep the copyrights active.
And go back to the 1st format! And throw in R. Mika too!
Also add at least 5 members of the Mad Gear Gang, too.
@@cornbreadthedog Mad Gear gang?! We're too oversaturated those mugs!
Actually, they're in the Capcom universe and would fit perfectly in the Saturday Night Slam Masters wrestling roster! You need heels to put the good guys over and to keep the ratings high. They'd be perfect!
And Darin!
They re-release it and comes on an Arcade1up emulation cabinet. :(
Street Fighter™II Big Blue Arcade Machine if you are interested. I know I'm not.
My god! I'm reliving my childhood and teen days right.
Our arcade saloon in Dakar Sénégal was going crazy!
The bets , the rivalries..
This game along with Double Dragon, TMNT lost in time , Bad dudes and many others through the years was all the fuss , I've formed friendships up to this day and skipped school so many times for this damn game!!
Oh the memories!!

Wow they have arcades in africa?
@@_Promised_ dude... Wtf 😔
@@unlimited-6183 what dude can you correct this statement?
This is canon to Street Fighter so we need another one.
There are two more, but none of them received a console release: Muscle Bomber Duo (which is an updated Slam Masters with tag team play) and Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters 2.
His personality profile is giving us a hint he has the same flat top hairstyle and he uses Sonic Attacks.
@@Omegadb91 he is guile's cousin from street fighter
Or at least a guest character
We sure do. But I would add members from the Mad Gear gang, at least 4.
Didn't get to play this in the wild, but more than made up for it on SNES. Awesome vid Alex. 🤘
I remember rage quitting playing this. Also having some really fun matches. I love the characters.
Well, it's Saturday Night. Guess it's about time to wreck someone's face with a metal folding chair!
"BUH GAWD! HE'S DEAD! WITH GOD AS MY WITNESS, HE'S BROKEN IN HALF!"
@@NintendoComplete One thing I should bring up, a short manga version of Saturday Night Slam Masters exists, granted its only in Japanese Text but its pretty interesting as it was created by Shonen Jump, the same people responsible for publishing Dragon Ball, Fist of the North Star and many others.

Speaking of Slam Masters, what are your thoughts on Slam Masters II (just curious)
This was definitely one of my favorites as a kid.. thanks for uploading.

Sounds like something he would say in the Japanese version
I haven't known what it said for eleven years, now I know what it says. (I was 6 years old when I played it in arcades)
They should add this game to capcom arcade stadium
They did... It's available in Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch 👍
Dam that shirt ripping opening was 100% top notch rad
I turned that like up to 11 and that shirt tear stopped me in my tracks.

Right? Tsch...ching! I want my shirt to sound like light hitting a sword when I tear it off, too.
@@NintendoComplete i have a question: when you play the arcade version, can you choose the difficulty or not ?
@@lamiamekni2802 Yeah, there's an option in the service menu

So that's Victor Ortega at the end.he wants a challenge.that brings this game up to slam masters 2.

Unfortunately Capcom killed the series with Slam Masters II
Great time uploading this game during WrestleMania season.
first time seeing this game. extremely impressive for it's time.
Lots of fun and it was a rare 4 player game on the SNES

The best wrestle game I have ever played. It's a pity the sequel is a disaster
Why? Because its format is Street Fighter?
@@edwardgaines6561 mainly yes, it's a senseless decision on a wrestle game because it's important to have the feel of moving freely around all the ring. Beside that, it didn't have any appeal
You're a disaster
I agree with you. The gameplay in the sequel is generic and bland, compared to this. But the visual and especially the music are incredible in the sequel.
@@Starredmediasoft how didn't it have any appeal
They did such a good job with this game. I just wish they could've made it with WWF or WCW branded stars at the time. The graphics, animations, speed of the game, the ring entrances (cool little light and laser effects)...it was way ahead of its time it seems.
Always liked that goofy little theme when the dude comes out with the monkey on his shoulder, and how he sticks around for the match. Those little touches were a big deal back then in gaming
Grater was a pretty good Vader knockoff. And loved the Perfect-Plex in this game.
Totally agree. WWF and WCW would have had a great games if they partnered with Capcom
Yes the Perfect Plex was performed by two characters: Biff Slamkovich and Gunloc 👍

Dude if the CWA were real Titanic Tim would like totally beat up all of those chumps. He’s like 7’9” that’d make him unstoppable
Yeah, but extremely tall people have shorter life spans.
@@edwardgaines6561 sadly it's true, look at Andre The Giant and Giant Gonzalez..
If you ever play Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II, the wrestlers in that game are utterly capable of slamming each other right through the wrestling ring. Were talking wrestling rings that have icy floors, concrete floors, even steel floors that are as thick as the wrestling ring themselves! (Mike Haggar for example can pile dive wrestlers right through the said floors of the very wrestling rings I speak of, if only he could do that to gangsters, criminals and terrorist should Capcom do Final Fight 4 . . . yes that would be utterly awesomeness!)
If only Capcom decided to give Saturday Night Slam Masters one awesome comeback. And yes, Final Fight 4, that deserves to happen as well.
I hate how they changed the roster every game, in Final Fight. At least Streets of Rage kept their roster generally the same.
@@edwardgaines6561 To be fair, Streets of Rage had other different characters, we haven't seen Adam Hunter playable since the first game nor Max Thunder playable since the 2nd game either. But they always kept Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding.
The Final Fight series from the 1st game to the 3rd always kept Mike Haggar playable. At least Guy returned for the 3rd game as he never appeared on the 2nd due to being replaced by Maki Geuryusai. I won't count Final Fight Revenge nor Final Fight Streetwise as they both contradict the original three games (sure it was fun watching Mike Haggar pile dive his opponent right through the Earth's core and out from the opposite side of the world but the only way I would ever see it again is through another Marvel VS Capcom game, but that's another story another day).
If Capcom ever brings out Final Fight 4 means they will honor the rivalry the franchise had with Streets of Rage due to Streets of Rage 4 already being announced awhile back. Both beat 'em up franchises did, after all, had competitive rivalry back in the Nintendo VS Sega era as Nintendo wanted Capcom to make sequels to Final Fight to counter Sega's Streets of Rage's sequels.
So yes, you might as well get a number of your buddies and get them to convince Capcom to make a Final Fight 4 and have it so Mike Haggar is pile diving gangsters, criminals and terrorist right through over 60 inches of concrete, ice and steel hehehehehehehehe =)
@@ancientone5903 I certainly wouldn't mind a sequel, from one fan to another! But on Final Fight's side, the story and characters or too muddied. Mr. X was always the final boss, while Mad Gear switched hands off and on. Ah, that's enough nitpicking. (I admit, I'm a Sega Fanboy!)
@@edwardgaines6561 That's understandable, I'm actually happy that Streets of Rage 4 is coming out and I intend to buy that when given the chance. The one thing I really hope for in the case of Streets of Rage 4 is that they bring back is Yuzo Koshiro to do the soundtrack as I noticed a lot of people are asking for him to do such. Because without him, Streets of Rage 4 may not have that feel, and it really needs that feel.
Now imagine of what would happen if Sega released another gaming console after all these years to the very point where it puts Nintendo down to its knees, what would you do if this happened?
@@ancientone5903 No, Sega is done with the console wars. Gaming is different today, too mainstreamed and watered down through smart phones. There is simply too much competition for a child's attention span. Back in the old days before the internet, you had to go to your friend's house to play. Now, people are anti-social on principal. 😢
Gunloc, the only person who tried to flirt with Jessica and got beaten up by Cody severely
Forgot to add... also character being designed by the great Tetsuo Hara in his post Fist of the North Star fame and when he still can see.

Funny how Titan looks, dresses, and fights exactly like T. Hawk. Hmmm....
Each fight in the game would take place on a Saturday Night?
During the 1980's and early 1990's, the WWF (WWE) broadcast-ed their wrestling shows on NBC on a Friday or Saturday Night. Most people back then would be home and the NBC network would have super-huge ratings (due to the Hulk Hogan era of wrestling). And of course, those shows made it to Japan and the rest of the world. In a way, this game is paying homage to that.
