    As a Bengali, the period from 1940-2000 was a great humiliation. It's not just the economy tanked, the civilization fell apart. The pride, knowledge, bravery all collapsed. First came the 1941 famine 4 million dead, then 1946-47 Kolkata-Noakhali massacres, then 1965 East Bengal genocide, then 1971 Operation Searchlight and genocide, and finally the 1980-90s FEP. The economy was the last thing that collapsed, the people were already broken, they fought the most, they bled the most, they suffered the most. Today we are humiliated everywhere as poor immigrant labourers. If anything has taught me, it is that no one will see your suffering, they will laugh when you're languishing in pain, but they will only respect you, only if they fear you. Today everyone respects Maharashtra coz they fear Maharashtra's ability and efficiency. If Bengal can suffer this much and still stand then she can surely leap, no excuses.

    Kolkata or Bengalis doesn't lack in anything, the problem is mostly of Crab mentality due to bad policy decisions of British and public utility Infrastructure, People of bengal really needs to see what is in their self-interest keeping in mind that loss in one person's business will some day cost your own job.

    • @val-schaeffer1117
      @val-schaeffer1117 Год назад +1

      Rubbish. Bengalis are indeed weak and lazy. Success rate of WB in IITJEE and civil service exams are abysmally low. On the other hand, use of domestic help is among the highest, which are typically done by household members in North and South India, leaving lower class to work in primary sector (e.g. manufacturing). Judging objectively, an engineer in Kolkata would have much higher rate of hiring household help (which is tertiary sector) whereas an engineer in another city. So an engineer who works as engineer but also cooks and cleans, is much more productive than one who needs domestic helps to tune him up for his regular work life.

    Kolkata back then Calcutta used to called as "London in the east" or the sister city of London at early 20th century. 100 years back. I dont think kolkata downed because of opening of sewage canal and so shifting industries to the west i.e. maharastra. This because of wrong politics of CPI. Because At the same time just after the ww2 China was developing. Shanghai, Gunazhou, Hong Kong, Japan was rapidly expanding and also the Malaysia, singapore. Kolkata still had much greater opportunity then Mumbai. Because Kolkata is only closest city to S.E Asia and also ideal city to capture Market in bangladesh and at that time highly skilled and educated work force only used to found in bengal. But it was not focused by Joti basu. Opportunity also came in 2007 in singur by TATA NANO. But CM of CPI lead govt buddhadeb bhattachrya Failed to eliminate the nuisances of TMC. And so TATA went to Anand Gujrate. Fun fact TATA choose bengal first not Gujrate because of skilled work force. If TATA were into the bengal today. Kolkata would have the no 1 city in terms of GDP by now not in 3. And coming to IT sectors. Bengal silicon valley as it is planned, if the plan execute properly It may have chance to replace bengaluru and hydrabad and it may prevent the brain drain to out of bengal. I hope upcoming BJP govt will take it seriously.

    It is absolutely preposterous that WB government pursued these foolish Marxist economic policies for such a long period of time. It seems the CPI-M was completely oblivious towards the fact that socialist economic policies could not even be sustained in the Soviet Union and China ( the former poster boys for communism). Unfortunately, the current TMC government has also retained many of the failed economic policies of the left front, making the revival of Bengal a herculean task. Just like the whole of India, West Bengal needs to espouse the fundamentals of Capitalism and unleash the power of the free market economy. Bengalis need to move away from the teachings of Karl Marx and embrace the libertarian ideas of Milton Friedman. I personally believe that WB has the potential of achieving prosperity if blessed with a visionary and business friendly leader like N Chandrababu Naidu, who almost singlehandedly turned Hyderabad into a prominent IT Hub. The last time WB recieved such a visionary leader was way back in the 1960 and his name was Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy ( Indian National Congress). I think that instead of drawing inspiration from the likes of Marx or Mao, we should learn from the inspirational story of PM Lee Kuan Yew and Singapore. I personally think that given the amount of control that CM Jyoti Basu had over Bengal and CPI-M, he could have turned Calcutta into a Singapore.

    It is bad to say, but it is true that Independence of India ruined Bengal as the anti-Bengalis took over India after 1947.
    Hindu majority areas like Jessore, Khulna, Barisal and Buddhist majority area Chittagong Hill Districts went inside East Pakistan, but Gandhi-Nehru-Patel never objected.
    Nehru made a treaty with Liaqat Ali to expel the Hindu Bengali refugees from India and stopped their stipends.
    Nehru declared West Bengal a developed state and refused to allow any central industrial projects for West Bengal. Durgapur steel plant came in exchange for Dhanbad coal fields.
    Morarji Desai refused to give any contracts for the large private sector industries in West Bengal. He asked all banks and foreign companies to shift their head offices from Calcutta to Bombay area.
    YB Chavan removed all defense related industries from West Bengal to his home state.
    Krishnamacharya equalized the freight rates for all industrial inputs all over India thus destroying all natural advantages of all Eastern states.
    Bhutalingam removed all railway related industries to South India.
    Kumarmagalam removed a part of the Durgapur Steel plant to Tamil Nadu.
    Maran closed down Dunlop in West Bengal but kept it alive in Tamil Nadu with government subsidies.
    CPIM and TMC also destroyed West Bengal with great violence so that most private sector industries went away. The leaders of CPIM are also anti-Bengali, as none of their buildings are named after any Bengali Communist leaders. TMC is all for the Muslim illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
