The thing with Kotaku is they've always been a joke. Even when they were semi-legit 10 years ago, their association with Gawker always dragged down their reputation. Gamer Gate killed the last of their credibility. And they should have gone out of business already, after Hulk Hogan leg dropped Gawker with that lawsuit. And nobody reads them. Even Reddit outside r/games doesn't have good opinions of them, even though Reddit is very left leaning. Which begs the question. Where are they getting funding from? Can't be as revenue. I kind of suspect these outlets are being propped up with public money. Yeah, I watched Moon's latest video. But it wouldn't surprise me if that's what's keeping so many of these outlets alive.

It's just a website, it's not like they need expensive servers to handle the traffic. I don't think the staff get paid much, the writers mostly treat it as a blog and as gamergate exposed there's special perks for putting in a good word or for bad mouthing competitors.

Hate to invoke it, but Gamergate destroyed mainstream video game journalism. It's why it's still utterly despised to this day. The "old guard" made everything political and revealed the personal connections between them and the video game developers. They can't come back even if they solved these issues today because people are now more interested in individual personalities. It's more personal and thus more genuine-feeling. I'd much rather watch a Johnny Vs., Scott the Woz, Nerrel, or Matthewmatosis video than watch Jim Sterling or read an IGN/Kotaku article.

These sites, and companies are so divisive. They care more about diversity of skin color than diversity of thought. It's why stories in movies, tv shows, and video games have taken a nose dive in quality. People who all think the same cannot possibly be creative as a group. There's no one to push back on their bad ideas, and their culture of fear they've created where everyone easily gets offended makes anyone who dares think differently afraid to speak up.

Game journalism. As well as actual journalism. Got too big. And people lost confidence in it, because they spout nonsense opinion pieces alot. They should stop hiring brainwashed npcs to do their writing for them. If they did that, then they might be respected by some people again. But, once you make yourself a laughing stock. I think you're beyond saving. News, Gaming/movies reviews. Basically all these things are completely compromised now on most major websites.
I dont think anyone but actual npcs in life read or take the opinions of lots of places seriously anymore. IGN, Kotaku, CNN, MSNBC, and many many others. They're not news. Not anymore. Not even Fox or MRCTV is without their bias. And they refuse to call out their own side for things they point out the other side does that they condemn. The world...is a clown show...its been progressing for years now. Iv been sitting at my pc for like 12 years, watching it all unfold. And the progress in it, has been astoundingly fast in recent years. 2 sides, both pushing people into extremism and judging/hating the other side. And neither of which are actual news anymore. But propaganda.

How many conservatives and red states folks are applying for jobs in San Francisco at IGN?
Like….you can’t be diverse, if people don’t really apply. Also no one has ever asked my political view in a job interview. Your assuming mass conservatives are applying and are rejected for these jobs. Same argument with why aren’t there more women in construction….they ain’t applying at the same rate

There's a similar issue in my career field. I'm a forester and its almost exclusively white conservative men. There are a lot of scholarships and workshops to make it more diverse and many companies are constantly pushing for more diverse hiring but its already a niche industry and the reality is that they don't apply and the number of non-white or women graduates every year is in the single digits statewide.

The funniest thing here is that in another segment of this he was saying, oh my friends not coming to my defense made the criticisms about me seem more real. But then at the same time he's literally stoked at outcomes that echo the criticisms made against him. Amazing lack of personal insight. I also love that Colin touts himself as the most well read in his day on IGN, but then he's like "who earnestly reads Kotaku?", my guy you were the hate reads on IGN. Like you and Kotaku, are the same same on different sides of the coin. The most hilarious part though was him talking about diversity as needing more diverse white people. There is a reason why most POC and marginalised groups lean left, its because right wing politics generally suck for them. So when diversity isn't about having a more diverse selection of white people (this is laughible to type out) and is focussed on minorities, then diversity will naturally begin to skew hires left politically. Now while you're trying to find white people who can work well in that environment... well its gonna keep going in that direction.
