While often Eivor's music has a primal feel to it , it's not all like this . A song like " Trollabunden " is similar to this ( although lighter ) whereas " Falling Free " is much more mainstream while still managing to showcase her fantastic vocal gymnastics . She deserves MUCH more worldwide recognition than she receives and it's definitely worth checking out more of her work - you'll find it both beautiful and surprising .
Have you ever watched the Netflix series "The Last Kingdom"? Also a series of historical novels about a Danish warlord who helps Alfred the Great to establish the Kingdom of England in around 800 AD. I loved both the books written by Bernard Cornwell and the TV show. This music takes me to a primal time before. To another reality.
You should watch The Last Kingdom all 5 series plus the film that finished it off. It's the story of the creation of England from King Alfred the Great until the formation of what is England today, Saxons, Celts, Vikings, fighting, politics the works. This is of course the theme tune. The battles are true historic events, as are many of the people. The main character Uhtred of Bebbanburg although someone of that name actually existed at another time he was not present during this, he's a character added through which the story can be told.
This was an amazing gig. Eivor and Heilung in one show. Left the venue in total peace. They created happy vibes

This is Eivør Pálsdóttir from the Faroe Islands, so she is singing in the old native tounge which is basically Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and Islandic in one.
@@mentaliusDK The Faroese language is the language that we all spoke in Norway,Denmark and Sweden during the viking era! Icelandic has changed a litte bit from from the original language spoken but pretty close! The Faroese islands was inhabited orignially from the Norwegian vikings around the year 800!
I am Norwegian, and I understand roughly 50% of the Faroese language when I see it written. Like the lyrics for Mjørkaflokar for instance, I understand maybe 80% of the lyrics there. My Danish and Swedish understanding are both 100%, whereas my Icelandic understanding is more or less like the Faroese. So there are definitely big similarities in the Nordic languages.
As other people have mentioned it's the main theme of the TV show The Last Kingdom (BBC/Netflix) and her and composer John Lunn (also did the soundtrack for Downtown Abby) wrote all the music for the show. It's THE best show out there in my opinion.
Hey Daniel 👋 Finally - Eivor 😊 Please do "Falling free" live... I very much enjoy your yourney and still love your big smile 😁 Greetings from Germany 🤘 ❤
I´ve seen/heard Eivør 3 times, very magical:) You do need to see Falling Free and Trodlabundin. The closest pronounciation of Eivør´s name might be - I were…
The last kingdom is basically a "viking" show about norse warriors in England around 800 AD so they chose Eivor to write the songs and sing them because she's from the Faroe Islands and is a descendant of the so called vikings and speaks a modern language which is the most similar to old norse. that's the language she's using in this song.
For the love of the gods find Trodlabunden where she is singing live in a blue dress. It's just her and a drum and phenomenal scenery Just other worldly😮
I saw Eivør live and it's pure magic! She also sings songs in english. "Falling free" is a must see! But you can't go wrong, there are viking sounds or beautiful ballads, you can have everything! ;-) The Last Kingdom is for me the best series out there! You should watch it!
BTW - Eivor Palsdottir is the singer's name ( not a band name ) - from the Faroe Islands ( she was singing in Faroese in this song ) - a small group of islands about 200 miles north of the UK and half way between Norway and Iceland
I don't know if you know this. But Eivør is from the lonely islands in the middle of the stormy North Sea in the Atlantic Ocean. The islands are called the Faroe Islands. The population of the Faroe Islands and that means also Eivør are direct descendants of the Vikings and of the Celts in Great Britain. The language Eivør often sings in is her Faroese language, which all Faroese on the Faroe Islands speak. It is the old Viking language which is the Faroese's first language, even though the Faroese can speak several languages. Of course, it sounds more authentic with the real Viking language when she sings about Vikings and Viking sagas. Eivør is a fantastic singer with a fantastic and unique voice, who unfortunately does not get the attention and likes on RUclips that she deserves. She has so many great performances and songs that people on youtube should hear. Eivør sings in all seasons of The Last Kingdom and the film The Last Kingdom. She also sings in the Faroese/Viking language in The Last Kingdom and it gives the perfect effect to those watching The Last Kingdom when the Vikings arrive, attack, mourn, etc. Recommend Eivør to others on RUclips so we can see more good reactions from good people on RUclips.
I saw her live before the concert of Heilung. Been a fan of her for like 10 years. It's totally up my alley. Hearing her sing irl was on a whole other level though, damn.
The Faroese language (the mother tongue of Eivør) derives from the Old Norse, the language of the Vikings. It is very closely related to Icelandic, which is concidered to be the most similar to Old Norse. Modern day Danish, Swedish and Norwegian have evolved quite far from the Faroese, so the mutual intelligibility between these languages is quite low. More widely speaking, all of those mentioned languages are members of Germanic languages, which also includes English, in fact.

I've never heard Eivor before, but The Last Kingdom is great! Has some overlap with Vikings in terms of characters and time periods. It covers the events around the formation of England. Also, I have been seriously looking into the Faroe Islands for my next holiday!
And now it's time for another girl from the north, Aurora Ewerything with her is out of this world Mabe you should start with From the eyes of a child Live Nidarosdome
oh yeees :-) this is a song to drive to mountains as you say. She is from Faroe Islands - check the landscape on photos and you will understand even more. Not really mountains, but hills. Some of the many islands having only few inhabitants. Smooth fogs, unforgiving Atlantic sea with all of its moods, incredibly green grass ...
Although I don't understand a single word, there's something very moving in this for me. Maybe somewhere, my ancestors are woken by this sound and their spirits are pulling on my heartstrings. That's how it feels for me, anyway.
Thanks for EIVOR! My best! EIVOR and HEILUNG are very good friends and will be going to their second Tour together - to Australia in October/November. Meanwhile - EIVOR's new album out soon and her European Tour!
Yes, she does in fact sing while breathing in. Some people call it "throat singing," but I have no idea if that's a proper term. She's pretty much a bad-ass (in a good way).
it's very scandinavian, we often speak while inhaling. she combines it with throat singing. another ancient vocal techniqe is called kulning. it's a herding call and travels very long distances.
Lovely reaction! Want to be even more surprised? Listen "Eivør Pálsdóttir - Heyr Himna Smiður" immediately after this track and try to believe that it is the same voice!
Eivor ( 'I-Vor' ) Palsdottir is from the Faroe Islands........she is a diva.......as noted in the comments, you should listen to any version of her performing "Trollabundin", which means 'Spellbound' ( or Trodlabundin ), many versions on RUclips ---- she sings in Faroese and plays a 'tribal' drum....it is ancient and mystical......
One of the nice things about Eivor is that her live performances are always half improv. So it is always worthwhile to listen to different versions on the same song.
