  • Would you talk to a deceased loved one through AI?
Can artificial intelligence help us connect with loved ones who have died? In this thought-provoking video, I explore the potential, the ethics, and the spiritual implications of using AI to bridge the divide between life and death.
As a chaplain who witnesses the depths of human grief, this topic raises complex questions for me. Will we ever be able to transfer our consciousness into a machine? If so, would connecting with a deceased loved one through AI bring solace or violate the dignity of the human being?
What might different religious traditions say about this?

Can you cover the topic of longevity (and especially our perception of longevity) in one of your upcoming videos? How our sense of longevity affects our current choices? Will it make us more risk-taking if we think we'll live longer for example by undertaking a good project we would not otherwise start? Or would we spend more time with loved ones if we knew we don't have much time left? It seems the perception of longevity is one of the key concepts as humans. How can AI give us a perspective on longevity?

AI and longevity is a very interesting topic, thank you for the suggestion. I will add to my list of topics 👍
What I saw over the years as a chaplain is that it is all about what gives meaning to your life more; is it the loved ones, being beneficial to others, exciting projects, etc. Whatever makes us feel connected to what is holy, to others and the existence in general, that makes us feel most fulfilled. Once we found the answer to it, it will inform what we do, whether it is spending time with loved ones and/or projects.

Thank you for sharing your insights on an important topic. I also wonder what it is like to seek consolation from AI. Holding on to memories may bring solace and a sense of comfort. I am curious to see how people will experience an interaction with an AI. In my chaplain practice, I have invited grieving patients reminiscing a death of a loved one to imagine them being present in the room. I may ask them, "What would you loved one say to you at this moment?"

Yes, you are bringing up very important questions. Imagine now that instead of the grieving persons trying to imagine what their deceased loved one would say, they are talking with an AI that is already saying somewhat similar, and maybe very accurate as the algorithms keep developing. Would it be comforting, especially for someone who has no family or friends? What would it mean to find comfort from when you know that it is not a human being? Are these two things mutually exclusive or it is more like a gray area? Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

@@alir.candir1244 Imagine they can actually communicate directly with loved ones instead of an AI.
