One of my favorites that I was so excited to share with Sam! I’m glad she loved it as much as I do! What are some other great comedy recommendations!? Thank you for all of the support!
Love how "check out his arse" turns into "check out his horse" Also paying homage to the famous point break gun scene and the bad boys panning sequence.
The funny thing is that when they were doing the casting, the writers said they wanted a 'Timothy Dalton' type of person for the role of Simon Skinner. One of then just went, "Why don't we just ask Timothy Dalton?" So they did exactly that and Dalton said yes. And I am sure Mr Dalton had a lot of fun!
this film is fun good the first time you watch it but when you rewatch it and realize all the callbacks references and comedy in writing subtly it improves a lot....like its a solid film at first but its way better on rewatches...
Angel: "You can't just make people disappear!" Met Chief Inspector: "Yyyyyes, I can. I'm the Chief Inspector." Can't believe I missed that bit of foreshadowing until now!
One of my favorite parts in this movie is the play. It's not just a terrible version of Romeo and Juliet. It's a play of the movie with Leo DeCaprio and Claire Danes. That's why you have the gun, the angel wings, and "Love me Love me Say that you love me". It brings the terribleness of the play to a whole other level.
Lmao, love Angel's eyes when that part happens. His expression screams "The fuck?!" And the Neighbourhood Watch Alliance are smiling in the background, pretty much saying "Yeah, these two are toast."
22:50 The reason why even the bad guys avoided running the swan over, is because in England all swans are royal property, making it super illegal to kill them 👍
Queen Elizabeth II technically owns all of the unclaimed swans in open water in England and Wales. But, the Queen only actually exercises ownership on certain stretches and tributaries of the River Thames around Windsor.
@@synaesthesia2010 I mean, it’s also high treason to purposefully stick a UK postage stamp (which ALWAYS have a crown or a monarch cameo/silhouette on it) upside down.
Honestly I think it might be the best British comedy of all time. It's this or Life Of Brian. It's relentlessly hysterical, genuinely compelling as a story, and has, carefully masked beneath the ridiculous amount of humour, a genuine message about what policing should and should not be. Such a great film. Agreed on the reaction, it was a hoot. So glad Sam enjoyed it
The World's End is my favorite. I would say Shaun of the Dead is the best movie of the three. But Hot Fuzz is the most fun and enjoyable by a wide right mile.
With the twin cops you can see that one of them is reading a book by Ian Banks and his brother is reading a book by Ian M Banks, it's the same author but he uses one name for his sci-fi books and the other for his regular novels. It's very meta as the cop is played by one actor, and not actually twins.
Edgar Wright was the original director for the first Antman. I wonder how that would have turned out if he had not left (been forced to leave) the project. Antman was already going to be funny with Paul Rudd, but I wonder if there is any Edgar Wright shot footage still in existence or if he left before they started filming.
I saw this movie in a late night showing with a buddy, and we were the only people in the theater. The moment I knew I was going to love it was "A great big bushy beard!" By the end, he and I were both standing up and fist pumping when they started shooting during the car chase. After the movie, we went back to my buddy's place and immediately watched Shaun of the Dead on DVD, because I had never seen it, Hot Fuzz is absolutely my favorite movie.
The nearest model village to where i live all the buildings are actually made of stone, fall on to one of them you don't crash through it, you get bruises.

The reason for the tiny town was that earlier in the movie they told him to "fuck off to the model village if he wants to be a big cop". In true form they call it back at the end of the movie where he is, literally, the big cop in the model village.

Also, most of the village leaders are performed by actors who have played villains or cops in classic movies and TV shows! You guys are such a great team to watch movies with! Really looking forward to you doing The World's End... and as others have suggested, if you can find it, watch the sitcom "Spaced"! It's where it all started for Pegg, Frost and Wright!
I love this film, but I've been really pleasantly surprised to see so many fans of Hot Fuzz in the USA, because there are so many elements that seem specifically English (model villages, midsommer murders vibe, Somerfield, just the whole Cotswolds village vibe), but I suppose it shows that good comedy is universal. There are so many things in this film that you don't notice first, second or thirtieth time around. I've seen this film I don't know how many times, and yet, I've just noticed something while watching this video at 17.20 that I've never noticed before. Great video, and love the reaction.
Since you guys are watching the Cornetto trilogy, I HIGHLY recommend watching the TV show Spaced. Directed/written by Edgar Wright, staring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It's 2 seasons, 14 half-hour episodes and extremely funny!!
@@TBRSchmitt If you think these movies have a lot of in-jokes and references then Spaced is a whole different level. The DVDs even have a subtitle track that flashes up every time there is a reference.
Depending on where it's watched, some copies of 'Spaced' have a subtitle option called the "Homage-o-meter" that explains every pop-culture reference in the whole show. Because it was added after Shaun of the Dead got made, it notes a "future homage" to SotD because they accidentally recycled one of their own jokes - "He's not my boyfriend!"..."Thanks babe"
Great reaction, cheered my day up no end! Also, so glad you edited in the 'Narp' bit! classic subtle comedy moment based on inter character awareness! Love IT
This movie is an incredible achievement. They really honed everything they'd done in the past to this point. It's quite unbelievable. And you're right about multiple viewings to get it all, Shaun of the Dead has this quality also.
Watching none Brits watching great British humour with a ensamble cast is great, I mean you have Bill Nighy (literally everthing British lol), Timothy Dalton (James Bond), Steve Coogan (Comedian apparently), Martin Freeman (Frodo & Dr Watson), Olivia Colman (very prominent recently) and Edward Woodward (The Equalizer before Denzel W.). Nerding out there great reaction btw!
The Hound (Rory McCann) is not the only Game of Thrones character in Hot Fuzz; @10:18 is the late Walder Frey - or at least the actor who played him, David Bradley.
Brilliant West Country - I lived in Cornwall for a couple of years, the local people were clear when speaking to me, but had no idea what they were saying to each other...
At the top of the movie, Father Christmas is the same guy who directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Janine (gorgeous blue eyed woman who breaks up with Angel) is played by Cate Blanchett. Just two of many wonderful actors playing small roles or cameos in this star studded film :D This movie has SO many easter eggs... it's amazing. For example, one of the things the director wanted to do was make mundane stuff look as exciting as stunt sequences in an action movie, so that's why sequences like paperwork were edited in a hyperstylized way. I would guess by now you've also seen Shaun of the Dead, but if you haven't, do yourselves a favor! :) (It shares some other actors too... one of the Andy's from this movie is the "you got a bit of red on you employee" from SotD, and the fence jump thing is referenced in it too)
Great reaction :D If I remember righ this movie got applause from the police force how well it actually depicted the many sides of police work, like filling papers and noting down evidence :D Also every time you see Skinner on the crime scene, his radio plays a song that relates to the murder... Also apparently harming swans is like regal crime over England so you would be in big trouble.
True! Technically the Queen owns all of the "unmarked swans in open water" in England, though the Royal household only actively maintains the swan population along certain stretches of the Thames. Only a few people are allowed to hunt them and it's also illegal to steal their eggs I think.
@@forgetmenotjimmy Just curious, do you know if there have been any related prosections in recent times? (by which I mean a few decades) Hmm, I bet owning all the swans was something the Normans brought over. :D
I heartily agree -- I like them in order of their release -- "Shaun" first, "Fuzz" second, "The World's End" third. All three deserve multiple viewings. Fun reaction!
Second this ^ pick up Spaced, you’ll so much of their talent and style in this clever and very funny tv show - plus listen to the commentary tracks on one of the episodes where the team enjoy chatting about an episode with Quentin Tarantino!
The characters were watching Romeo + Juliet starring Leonardo DiCaprio but a bad live theater version. I think you guys really need to react to that movie so you will know how awesome the movie was 😙 (Not Romeo and Juliet, but Romeo + Juliet)
Not only do all three movies of the "Cornetto Trilogy" greatly reward re-watching, due to all the incredibly clever foreshadowing and call-backs, but they're also good to watch in sequence, letting you catch the various echoes _between_ movies, such as Simon Pegg jumping fences.
hot fuzz is a damn near perfect movie and i never need a reason to rewatch it fun trivia i didnt discover until recently- michael the trolly boy is played by the guy who's the hound in game of thrones! but speaking of everything come back later on in the film, everything danny asks nicholas on their first day on the job about his career so far (shooting his gun during a car chase, etc) they then do in the finale. theres not a wasted line in the entire script- along with shaun of the dead (and also baby driver) you could honestly study the screenplays for these films they're so tight
This is a highly underrated comedy, for sure. Of course anytime you put Simon Pegg and Nick Frost together you can expect great things, but this is near the top. I laugh out loud every time I watch it.
Plus, the twins played by Bill Baily, if you look carefully, one is reading a novel by Iain Banks and the other is reading a novel by Iain M Banks, the same author using his alternative names, one for literate fiction and the other for science fiction. Which is a kind of call forward for the next film in the trilogy.
Funny as hell! Love this filming style and english sense of humour. I regret not watching this movie at the cinema when it was played! But, was good watching it 6 or 7 years later to see and indentify all those british stars i had already known from movies and series during that time. Dude, there are a bunch of them!
Yo Schmitt, I'm a bit disappointed you didn't correct Samantha and said "Police Officers" at 1:19 but I loved your reaction just the same! xD I'm like you, Shaun and Hot Fuzz are movies that I can have on repeat on the background and come in and sit at any point in the movies and enjoy them just the same. They're definitely movies that I always recommend for people who'd like some smart-silly humor. Also, I never noticed the Hound was in this!!
Great movie & "killer" review, The Cornetto Trilogy is such an amazing set of films that kind of pay homage to the zombie/ rom-com films with Shaun Of The Dead, buddy cop/ slasher films with Hot Fuzz, & Sci-fi/ alien invasion movies with At World's End. If you haven't yet, I explore you to look for SPACED which aired on the BBC back in the early 2000s (prior to the films) and it is essentially what launched Edgar Wright, Nick Frost & Simon Pegg's careers.
When Nicholas said his notebook saved has life more than once it’s true when he goes to the florist as he was close to getting killed but luckily he had to go get his notebook
The running joke with the swan that escapes is because there is a law that any unowned mute swan in the UK is crown property and owned by the queen, it’s illegal to harm or kill these swans which is why in the second car chase they all avoid the swan. Also the myth that a swan will break your arm is why frank has a broken arm after the swan attacks him as he tries to escape. Theses a few subtle scenes that you don’t show but the scenes in the shop where the shopkeeper says ‘no luck cashing those swans then’ to which Danny replies ‘just the one swan actually’ later becomes ‘no luck catching those killers then?’ It’s Danny’s response that makes Nicholas realise there’s multiple killers. Also when Nicholas is being transferred he says you can’t just make people disappear to which the chief inspector says ‘yes I am I’m the chief inspector’ Frank being the inspector of the smaller force where he is the highest ranking officer is the leader of the conspiracy that makes people disappear. Oh and the 2 female judges are Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s mothers
Awesome! Thanks for the backstory on some jokes! Haha I got the shopkeeper one but the others definitely went over my head! So much packed into one movie it definitely takes multiple views!
@@TBRSchmitt it defo does. Thinking about it another big joke that you show the tail end of is the cakes and the reason why everyone is eating a cake during Nicholas’ first day at Sandford. In the UK the emergency services have a thing called ‘cake fines’ basically it’s a fun way if someone messes up to pay back the team by buying cakes. Danny apparently lost his helmet so he had to buy cakes before Nicholas got to Sandford and for his drink driving Danny will be buying ‘chunky monkey’ for a month
Loved your reactions to this great movie. You should pop onto imdb and see how many familiar things the supporting cast has done. The priest, for instance, played Indiana Jones' nemesis in Raiders of the Lost Ark. And as a lover of the 8 hour Nicholas Nickleby, the actor who gets decapitated played Smike in a brilliant performance. Tons of great actors in this movie. And my favorite part is one of the James Bonds asking for ice cream for his sore throat after being impaled. Timothy Dalton was brilliant in this movie. EVERYBODY was.
There's a lot of British cop shows like this, set in a small villages with ludicrous murder plots. Hot Fuzz is an hilarious riff on those. I agree with some others, that 'Paul' should be added to the list sometime after 'The World's End', if either of you haven't seen it, just to keep the Pegg/Frost laughs going.
The film was filmed in the UK's smallest city Wells. Wells is a city because it has a cathedral and is 15 miles away from the actual village of Sanford.
You may or may not already know this, but the actress behind the mask playing Janine is Kate Blanchett. Also the actor dressed as Father Christmas stabbing Nicholas's hand was Peter Jackson himself.
Legitimately one of the tightest scripts ever written. There isn't a line of dialogue in this movie that isn't some kind of callback, foreshadowing, reference or Easter Egg. And that's without mentioning the myriad of visual gags that go completely unmentioned. The best example is the fact that Nicholas' masked ex is Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett. And she did it more or less for free. Incredible. The cornetto trilogy is up there with Tarantino in my book. The writing chops in Pegg, Frost and Edgar Wright's catalogue is TOP, TOP tier.
The Cornetto trilogy are classics. Love these films. The film making, editing and directing of these films are top notch We are gonna up go our balls in jugglers. This film has so many good lines. So does Shaun of the Dead
Get the DVD! The bonus features included an option that tells you how EVERYTHING, down to the footsteps in the opening montage is a reference to a cop movie. You think you know by watching it a bunch of times.... But WOW there's so much more! Seriously worth it if, if you can find a copy! Additional feature is all the UK PG edits required incase the film is shown on a plane. F*ck Yeah becomes Funk Yeah. Jesus Christ became Cheese and Rice! Too funny!
When I moved into a village near Wells in Somerset, UK, the town much of the film was filmed in, my wife the new minister of the local Baptist Church, we were talking to the local Curate who advised that if we wanted to know how the local villages worked, then we should watch this film. To be honest, she wasn't far wrong!
The detail that I didn't realize till someone pointed it out was that when they set the sea mine off the first time they have to escape by jumping over the trimmed hedge that they were there for in the first place.

10:25 that is David Bradley who played Walder Frey in GOT as well.
Awh thank you! I couldn’t remember his name!
@@TBRSchmitt And Filch from Harry Potter
Great reaction, cheered my day up no end! Also, so glad you edited in the 'Narp' bit! classic subtle comedy moment based on inter character awareness! Love IT
I've seen the movie so many times. But it has been a while and I had forgotten how utterly fantastic it is.
This movie is an incredible achievement. They really honed everything they'd done in the past to this point. It's quite unbelievable. And you're right about multiple viewings to get it all, Shaun of the Dead has this quality also.
Paddy Considine's double take is such a good joke. You can also see Rafe Spall nearly break character before going off screen behind him.
Edgar Wright takes film making to a whole new level. I love all of this trilogy. So amazing.
Great to watch with y’all thanks for taking time out and doing awesome reactions .
"His puns are becoming less punny"
...and Leon is getting laaaaarger.
no clue why my brain went there ...
Because it's funny and Johnny will always by the God-Emperor of random humour
@@weldonwin
"How bout some coffee, Johnny?"
"No thanks."
@Mike Peters
That’s what you made of that?
I could make a HAT, or a BROOCH, or a PTERODACTYL…
Oh man, I remember this movie when it came out and watch it over and over. Nothing beats a flick from the old enemy.
Peter Jackson playing Stabby Santa was epic, I didn't know till a couple years after this came out. LOL
TBR, have you watched Spaced? It’s the start of the Pegg-Frost-Wright collaboration - great series, only two seasons but packed with creativity :)
:) (It shares some other actors too... one of the Andy's from this movie is the "you got a bit of red on you employee" from SotD, and the fence jump thing is referenced in it too)
Great reaction :D
If I remember righ this movie got applause from the police force how well it actually depicted the many sides of police work, like filling papers and noting down evidence :D
Also every time you see Skinner on the crime scene, his radio plays a song that relates to the murder...
Transitions in these movies are always so perfect and awesome!
“Narp”........Tied with “Groovy” from Evil Dead 2 as greatest one word movie lines ever!😂😂😂
I heartily agree -- I like them in order of their release -- "Shaun" first, "Fuzz" second, "The World's End" third. All three deserve multiple viewings. Fun reaction!
I agree with that order! All amazing but they started off with my favorite of the three!
@@TBRSchmitt I STILL crack up at "Shaun." It's my favorite, too. Funny, bloody, terrific script and editing and acting. A GREAT comedy!
My favourite is Paul
You should watch Spaced - the TV series that Simon Nick and Edgar worked on before going into films.
Spaced is brilliant, well worth watching.
I think you guys really need to react to that movie so you will know how awesome the movie was 😙
(Not Romeo and Juliet, but Romeo + Juliet)
One of the best movies with the story and the editing. It is a masterpiece.
The old man is Edward Woodward he played the equalizer in the 80s you should watch the wicker man amazing film with him and Christopher lee .
He was also the Policeman in the original Wicker Man film. A similar story.
Not only do all three movies of the "Cornetto Trilogy" greatly reward re-watching, due to all the incredibly clever foreshadowing and call-backs, but they're also good to watch in sequence, letting you catch the various echoes _between_ movies, such as Simon Pegg jumping fences.
@2:43 Janine is played by Cate Blanchett in a cameo.
The violent Father Christmas is also played by Peter Jackson!!
hot fuzz is a damn near perfect movie and i never need a reason to rewatch it
fun trivia i didnt discover until recently- michael the trolly boy is played by the guy who's the hound in game of thrones!
but speaking of everything come back later on in the film, everything danny asks nicholas on their first day on the job about his career so far (shooting his gun during a car chase, etc) they then do in the finale. theres not a wasted line in the entire script- along with shaun of the dead (and also baby driver) you could honestly study the screenplays for these films they're so tight
The look of horror and laughter on Samantha's face made this a really fun reaction to watch.
I live in Wells, where the movie is shot and its brilliant that Cornetto nerds tour the smallest City in England re-enacting scenes!
This is a highly underrated comedy, for sure. Of course anytime you put Simon Pegg and Nick Frost together you can expect great things, but this is near the top. I laugh out loud every time I watch it.
1:59, the Santa Claus is Lord Of The Rings Director Peter Jackson.
Wow really!? That’s awesome
@@TBRSchmitt react to The frighteners starring Michael J. Fox which directed by PJ
@@wil1572 That's a great idea!
@@wil1572 oh my God YES
Plus, the twins played by Bill Baily, if you look carefully, one is reading a novel by Iain Banks and the other is reading a novel by Iain M Banks, the same author using his alternative names, one for literate fiction and the other for science fiction. Which is a kind of call forward for the next film in the trilogy.
Andy: "You want us to lock up the whole village starting with Aaron A Aaronson?" - which is the name of the ginger kid Skinner grabs at the end...
Funny as hell! Love this filming style and english sense of humour. I regret not watching this movie at the cinema when it was played! But, was good watching it 6 or 7 years later to see and indentify all those british stars i had already known from movies and series during that time. Dude, there are a bunch of them!
Some of the best reactions of your channel! Great choice
Haha thank you!!
Hahaha good call!
Nothing beats the awesome granny drop kick. MORE PLEASE.
If you loved this, you’ll also love:
'Shaun of the Dead'
'Run Fatboy Run'
'Paul'
'The World’s End'
A great reaction, loved it when Samantha jumped when Nick Frost appeared in the room after the fight 🤣
Thanks for explaining the cultural context some may miss.
Don’t forget “Paul”. Love these two guys together.
One of the best casts in any film I've ever seen.
The.Vow. Full Movie 2012 what movie name
2:45 I love how they cast Cate Blanchett and then covered her whole face with a mask.
Watching this for the first time is just the very beginning.
This movie has my favourite line of all time, "if you want to be a big cop in a little town, fuck off up the model village" cracks me up every time :)
7:41 "Aunty Jackie's sister's brother's boy".
Lol. He's his cousin.
The film was filmed in the UK's smallest city Wells. Wells is a city because it has a cathedral and is 15 miles away from the actual village of Sanford.
Skinner was James Bond, the NWA guy was the Equaliser, and the priest was in Raiders of the Lost Ark. And yes, Lurch was the Hound.
The film making, editing and directing of these films are top notch
We are gonna up go our balls in jugglers.
To be honest, she wasn't far wrong!
im sure TBR knows this but the person who plays janine is kate blanchet, big name actress.
The detail that I didn't realize till someone pointed it out was that when they set the sea mine off the first time they have to escape by jumping over the trimmed hedge that they were there for in the first place.
I can't believe this movie is already 14 years old! Time flies too fucking fast.
