The driving instructor was John Houseman, a legendary theatre producer of the 1930s with Orson Welles. He was a regular in movies and TV in the 70s and 80s. This was his last film.

Ludwig found a finger in his stadium-dog, because it was that manufacturing plant that Frank dropped his assailant into the boiler vat. Took me many times watching, to notice.
I remember watching this at my grandparents’ house with my uncles and cousins when it was first released. We all laughed so hard. To this day, I have scarcely laughed so hard at a movie.

The experience was made all the more better because the Theater was packed, and EVERYONE was laughing hysterically and having a great time! I will never forget that night, and I bought this Movie on VHS the first chance I got (bought the entire Series, including the short lived TV show). Still to this day my all time favorite Comedy! This guy is so smart. They know not to criticize or make fun of the films they watch. He also knows to leave just enough of the scenes so we can enjoy the film along with their reaction.
I first saw this when I was 9. I remember watching with my parents. I laughed so hard at the scene when Frank burns down the office that I was crying and gasping for air. That and "nothing to see here!" While fireworks and bodies are flying in the background. Still gets me 🤣

the Naked Gun trilogy was made before OJ Simpson's trial of the century in 1995... fun fact is the actress Susan Beaubian who plays OJ's character's wife also plays the jury foreperson in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson!
The Zucker brothers and Jim Abrams are brilliant writers who use a lot of “literal” humor. Ludwig is Ricard Montalban, a distinguished and actor famous as Khan in Star Trek and Mr. Rhoark from Fantasy Island. The series Police Squad came out soon after Airplane! in the early 80s. It only last six episodes because the humor was too massive and fast for TV. There were so many gags in every scene, usually in the background, that many never caught half of them except in reruns. So they grew Police Squad to the big screen as The Naked Gun, which allowed a captive audience to catch many more. And like Airplane! well-known actors were used who played the ludicrous scenes straight as if playing a serious role, which makes it hilarious. The movies Airplane! and Naked Gun started new careers for Lloyd Bridges and Leslie Neilsen, who were considered “serious” actors before that. To see Leslie in a serious, classic role (and with dark hair no less) watch the 1956 sci-fi flick Forbidden Planet. It still holds up well even today.
@@hansdampf3576 police squad was the tv series it ran for one season comprising of six episodes, the naked gun were movie spinoffs. Try to keep up 007!
The woman who demonstrates the assassin mechanism and then pulls the trigger on herself (empty chamber) is the director's mother. She is in all of the Zucker brother's movies. She was the woman in "Airplane!" that was trying to put on lipstick throughout the film, unsuccessfully.
I caught a joke that is so small nearly everybody misses it, or at least I missed it every time. When Frank is in a gunfight at Ludwig Slaughterhouse, there is a sign that says "Employees must wash hands before using restroom."
8:36 That's a send-up of the Charles Bronson/Lee Remick film "Telefon" where the original scene was almost perfectly recreated. Ludwig was played by Ricardo Montalban, the last dancing star with MGM just when the big musical films (think Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, etc) were getting out of fashion, but did a lot of television and film roles nonetheless.

Leslie Nielsen for decades played very dramatic roles, usually as a heavy. (bad guy) Many actors and crew attested to fact ,that off camera, Nielsen was quite funny, as was a real life practical joker. When he played the doctor in "Airplane" in 1980, he was so good in that comedy, that it launched a very popular string of comedy hit movies, with his "Naked Gun movies the most popular. All 3 movies were terrific. Hope you guys do the other ones. Yes the Angels were the California Angels for the longest time before being renamed the Los Angeles Angels despite the fact they still play in Anaheim.
My father and I watched all 6 episodes of Police Squad when it was on television. One thing they did, that I did not understand till years later, is each episode they would introduce a famous actor, like William Shatner, as a special guest and in the introduction that actor would get killed off, so they would not actually be in the episode.
Dang, I was hoping for a reaction to the sequel. Sorry you had to re-upload. The only bad thing about seeing Leslie Nielson's later comedies first, is that it might effect the way you see his earlier serious films. The one I think you both might like is "Forbidden Planet " a sci-fi film from the 50's.
That's where I first encountered Leslie Nielsen, in Forbidden Planet...such an incredible movie, WAAY ahead of its time! Then they were the Anaheim Angels and then the Los Angeles Angels and then the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. And now I believe they're back to Los Angeles Angels. The sequence, though, was shot in Dodger Stadium.
Hopefully you watched the credits as there are many puns and jokes and whatnot within the credit scroll. Ludwig is Ricardo Montalban (Fantasy Island and Star Trek's Kahn in Wrath of Kahn are probably his two most popular roles).
I like how you connected the jokes where Drebin walks around the wall and when Ludwig shakes the dummy of Jane around. I think they're both jokes about how "fake" movies can be. We forget that movies are fake when we're watching them. But these scenes remind us that we're watching something artificially constructed by making the fakeness obvious. So, to me, they're jokes that make fun of the fact that this is just a movie.
I love his laugh too Samantha, it is adorable and very infectious. Love Leslie Neilson as well and had a good career as a serious actor before his sense of humor was showcased. The way he plays these comedic roles in a very serious way is genius and hilarious.
I first heard of Leslie Nielsen because of his comedies. Imagine my surprise seeing him in Forbidden Planet. It’s a classic sci-fi movie from the 50s. Check it out!
"the CALIFORNIA?!!! Angels" LOL... when I grew up that's what they were called - your reaction reminds me of when I first heard that they used to be the "Los Angeles Angels" in the 1960's... the Angels can't make up their minds where they are from... 1961-1965 Los Angeles Angels, 1965-1996 California Angels, 1997-2004 Anaheim Angels, 2005-2015 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 2016 - present Los Angeles Angels and for a short time at the start of the 1983 season they were the California Angles but then they realized the spelling mistake a few months later and had to order new uniforms
That is what I feel separates the old parody films from the new ones, the old ones could parody the source material while still telling a coherent story.
You should check out "Police Squad" After Airplane they did a TV series that only lasted half a season (6 shows) Prime TV wasn't ready for it because it was too off the wall. It got cancelled. That's why the movie title says from the files of Police Squad. Nielsen plays the same character with the same guys in the movie.
The Zucker bros had a method to their jokes. If the joke wasn't happening in front of the camera then there is probably one in the background somewhere. Have you guys watched Top Secret? You will like that one too.
Leslie Neilsen wasn't always a comedy actor, he started off being a straight actor, his first big hit was Forbidden Planet (1956) and he was a guest star in a couple of episodes of Columbo.
I have always loved this movie, absolutely hysterical. Weird fact about this movie, it was literally the last thing Simpson did before committing the Brentwood murders. He had finished shooting just hours before the events in Brentwood starting to happen. My friends and I often argued that Simpson absolutely loved being a celebrity, but maybe he did not like being the brunt of jokes so much. Definitely when it came to his wife, anyway. He was kind of an Egomaniac.

I love his laugh too Samantha, it is adorable and very infectious. Love Leslie Neilson as well and had a good career as a serious actor before his sense of humor was showcased. The way he plays these comedic roles in a very serious way is genius and hilarious.
Please watch Top Secret if you like this type of movie!
I first heard of Leslie Nielsen because of his comedies. Imagine my surprise seeing him in Forbidden Planet. It’s a classic sci-fi movie from the 50s. Check it out!
Forbidden Planet is definitely on our list! Thank you foe the recommendation :)
I've also seen him on an episode of Perry Mason. Same with George Kennedy (Ed)
Tucker & Dale vs evil is a good horror/ comidy .
I wanted to point this out as well.
The silly intro with the camera on top of the car is also used in the TV show.
He also crashed into stuff when parking on the TV show.
That is what I feel separates the old parody films from the new ones, the old ones could parody the source material while still telling a coherent story.
22:30 - That's the legendary Ricardo Montalban, best known for playing the OG Khan in the TV series and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982).
Also for the tv show Fantasy island
Hey StullAngel002, do you know what is Mr. Montalban's country of origin, WITHOUT researching it?
@@maldranrk Hey Merik, do you know what is Mr. Montalban's country of origin, WITHOUT researching it?

1:31 such a beautiful sentiment that expresses genuine love between the two of you.
May you have a long and always happy marriage.
The whole series is good, but the first is the best.
The second one was pretty good too lmao
15:54 Fun fact: The Los Angeles Angels were previously called the California Angels after moving to Anaheim.
And originally they were the Los Angeles Angels. LOL
The scene that makes me laugh every time is when he calls strike two and strike three.
2:58 lol you two moving your heads to the music synchronously, I could have watched that for the whole intro ;)
It wasn't me it was a one armed, one eyed one legged man!!!
The toilet scene with the microphone on really happened in Texas lok
holy shit!!! if it wasnt for your reaction i would have never seen the food moving on the fridge..and i have watched this atleast 50 times
The cake moving ontop of the fridge is something I just now noticed. LMAO
The Zucker bros had a method to their jokes. If the joke wasn't happening in front of the camera then there is probably one in the background somewhere.
Have you guys watched Top Secret? You will like that one too.
This movie left a big impression, but even after tens of years, I still laugh watching this hahahaha
"Surely he must be dead"
"He is not, and stop calling me Shirley".
Refreshing to see some smart people react to this movie. Most of the time people don’t get even half the jokes in here
"Nice beaver" is one of ht greatest moments in cinematic history.
He's not dead. And don't call me Shirley.
Leslie Neilsen wasn't always a comedy actor, he started off being a straight actor, his first big hit was Forbidden Planet (1956) and he was a guest star in a couple of episodes of Columbo.
He was in the Thriller/Horror Creepshow Anthology in Episode "Something to Tide You Over".
@@donjuan4067 Yes I know, Ted Danson was in that as well wasn't he?
I have always loved this movie, absolutely hysterical. Weird fact about this movie, it was literally the last thing Simpson did before committing the Brentwood murders. He had finished shooting just hours before the events in Brentwood starting to happen. My friends and I often argued that Simpson absolutely loved being a celebrity, but maybe he did not like being the brunt of jokes so much. Definitely when it came to his wife, anyway. He was kind of an Egomaniac.
10:08 He's not dead. And don't call me Shirly.
"The problems of two people may not amount to a hill of beans, but this is our hill. And these are our beans!" One of my favorite lines ever.
